After a kick, have a drink at Nomi-san, then enjoy Kurokiri sashimi, fried horse mackerel bones, squid jeon, shirasu seaweed pizza, seared mentaiko, one pickled cucumber, and smoked pickled radish. Perfect for a tipsy lunch at Sakana-ya Dojo Uo Sensui Suzukake Station Front Store.

Went here for drinks with friends and decided to have a light meal first. Started with a 7-piece sashimi platter, chose 2 pieces from 5 different types of fish. The slices were thick and satisfying, but there were only 5 types of fish available. Next, we tried the grilled salmon belly marinated in sake lees. The fatty salmon belly was tender and delicious, but the saltiness was a bit overwhelming when eaten in large quantities. They didn't have as many varieties of sake as expected for a chain restaurant. The atmosphere inside was a mix between an izakaya and a family restaurant. They also serve sushi and fried rice, making it suitable for families as well. Not ideal for a date, but good for a casual drink or meal.

The fresh oysters were incredibly delicious!!! The sashimi and other dishes were also tasty, but the oysters were the best! I think next time I'll focus on eating oysters! The staff were friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice! I will definitely visit again!!!

In early June 2022, I revisited a massage parlor in Sugamo after a long time. After the massage, I decided to have a late solo lunch. It was around 2 pm on a Sunday. I wanted to eat sashimi, so I went down the stairs to an izakaya in the basement of a building. However, I slipped on the last step and fell. Luckily, I wasn't hurt, but a sports club university student who was waiting for a friend asked me, "Are you okay?" I thanked him and went inside the restaurant. I ordered the "Sashimi Set Meal - Deluxe" for 1490 yen at the counter seat. The restaurant was about 80% full. The set included 7 types of sashimi, a side dish, miso soup, pickles, and rice. You could have unlimited refills of rice and miso soup. The sashimi boat presentation was lovely, and the taste was decent.

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant after seeing my foodie friend, who loves to eat, post several pictures of the delicious and generous portions they serve for lunch. The location is perfect, just a 1-minute walk from JR Sugamo Station North Exit. I visited on a Sunday at 2:00 pm. As I entered the restaurant located on the basement floor, I was surprised to see how lively and bustling it was, with everyone enjoying their lunches and drinks. The lunch menu includes unlimited rice and miso soup refills, and you also get a complimentary coffee (hot or iced) after your meal. I ordered the following dishes: - Sashimi Set (Deluxe) for 1,490 yen, with 7 types of sashimi. - Assorted Fry Set for 950 yen, which included 2 oysters, 2 horse mackerel, and 2 pieces of fried chicken. The tartar sauce was homemade and delicious. Both sets were surprisingly generous in portion size and great value for money, just as my foodie friend had experienced before. I left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

Today we had a reasonably priced lunch with delicious fish. My wife had the sashimi set, which was not only beautiful but also tasty. I opted for the sashimi and tempura set. We also ordered some fried chicken to share. The total cost was around 1000 yen, making it a budget-friendly meal. The rain that started in the morning is expected to stop by the evening.

During work, I went to a customer's place in Sugamo and then looked around for lunch. I decided to go to Sakana-ya Dojo for an izakaya lunch. The restaurant is located on the basement floor of a building along the rotary on the north side of Sugamo Station. The interior has a traditional Japanese izakaya feel, with seating available at tables and a counter. When I visited a little after 1 pm, there were two groups of customers, and the staff consisted of two female servers and one male chef in the kitchen. I ordered the pork fillet cutlet Nanban set. The food arrived after about 8 minutes of waiting. There were 8 lunch set options, and although I hesitated between the fish options, I chose the pork fillet Nanban as I had never tried it before. The set came with miso soup, a small side dish, and pickles. This time, the small side dish was simmered taro, which I like, so I was happy about that. The main pork fillet cutlet Nanban looked substantial, with plenty of tartar sauce on top. The cutlet was thick and juicy, and it paired well with the rice. I was surprised to find two pieces of cutlet instead of just one, and since rice and miso soup were refillable for free, I ended up getting a refill. Overall, the izakaya lunch was a good value for money.

I visited "Sakanaya Dojo Uosensuisan Sugamo Ekimae Store" around 12:00 on a holiday in December 2018. It is a seafood izakaya affiliated with the Chimney chain, located right outside Sugamo Station. The interior of the restaurant was not very clean, with about 20% of the seats occupied. I sat alone at the counter and ordered the "seafood bowl" for ¥950 with extra rice. It took about 7-8 minutes for the dish to be served. At first glance, the seafood portion in the seafood bowl seemed lacking. The bowl included tuna, salmon, white fish, seaweed, tamagoyaki, and pickled ginger. The rice was cold and slightly hard. Honestly, the quality of the seafood bowl was low. The meal also came with pickles, miso soup, and a small side of onsen tamago. While having the onsen tamago with the seafood bowl is nice, the cold and hard rice doesn't go well with it. Despite ordering extra rice, the portion was not very generous. They also offered coffee after the meal, showing some level of hospitality. The cheerful service from the female staff was a positive aspect. However, the quality of the food was somewhat disappointing, typical of a chain restaurant.

I had a 990 yen salmon and tuna seafood bowl. The quality of the salmon and tuna was decent for the price, but the taste of the sushi rice was too strong (too salty), making it very difficult to eat. The miso soup also had seaweed in it, which was a bit too fishy and not to my liking...

We happened to find a great deal during the discount festival, so we ended up spending 10,713 yen for two people after enjoying a lot of food and drinks. The restaurant is conveniently located near the station, so we didn't have to worry about sudden heavy rain. The staff were also very friendly. I would like to explore more of the Sugamo area.

Having lunch with a baby in a stroller can be difficult, especially in an underground restaurant where you have to carry the stroller. However, they kindly took care of the stroller for us and we were able to enjoy a relaxing lunch in a tatami room. It was a relief. It was also great that they had udon on the menu for my 2-year-old.

After a meeting, we had a casual drinking party at a restaurant located on the Komagome side of the Sugamo Station North Rotary. This restaurant is operated by "Chimney Co., Ltd.," which also runs "Hananomai" and "Uosensuisan," and is a subsidiary of Jusco (now Aeon). The company has had quite a tumultuous history, starting as a 100% subsidiary of Jusco and now being a subsidiary of "Yamaya," a related company of Aeon that sells alcohol. The party was relatively small, so we ordered a sashimi platter in advance and instructed the organizer to serve it quickly. However, the sashimi platter was a bit dried out. We also ordered some standard izakaya dishes a la carte, such as potato salad, rolled omelette, salad, fried chicken, and corn butter. We also had drinks like draft beer and shochu a la carte. The bill came out to around 4000 yen per person. Overall, it was okay considering it's a chain restaurant.

Late November 2015. Revisited. The day before yesterday, after visiting a friend's grave at Sojiji Temple in Tsurumi, I had lunch at "Sakanaya Dojo" in Sugamo on the way back. This restaurant is located on the basement floor next to Sugamo Station North Exit. The first floor is a bookstore. I ordered the "Marunouchi Bento" for 1200 yen at the counter seat. It came with 2 pieces of fried chicken, 4 pieces of sashimi, seaweed cheese potato salad, mentaiko, tamagoyaki, today's fish bento with rice, miso soup, pickles, and a mini salad. Free extra rice and miso soup, and all-you-can-drink self-service drinks. The portion was generous and the taste was decent. Mid-May 2011. Yesterday was my day off. I planned to go to the gym for training but my right shoulder was hurting, so I had to cancel. I received acupuncture and massage treatment at a acupuncture clinic in Kojimachi. After that, I had dinner at an izakaya called "Uosensuisan Sakana-ya Dojo Sugamo Store" in Sugamo. This store opened on April 27th on the basement floor in front of the north exit rotary of Sugamo Station. The first floor is a bookstore. It is part of the same series of izakayas that have been rebranded every six months as "Hanano Mai" and "The Oudo". Before that, it was called "Takadaya". This time, I dined alone at a table. It was around 5:30 pm on a weekday, and the restaurant had a decent number of customers. I had a Kirin Ichiban Shibori (medium) for 504 yen and an otoshi (appetizer) for 315 yen, which was salted squid. Then, I tried the opening menu second edition until May 16th, which included "Jumbo Ebi Fry" for 294 yen, "Zuwai Crab Assortment" for 504 yen, "4 kinds of skewers" for 609 yen, and "Homemade Chijimi" for 415 yen. Everything was delicious. Honestly, it was tastier than during the previous "The Oudo" era. I won a bottle of the restaurant's shochu in a raffle on my way out, which I took home as a souvenir. The total cost was 2641 yen. I was satisfied.

Located about a 1-minute walk from JR Sugamo Station, this is a chain seafood izakaya with a chimney theme. - Otoshi (appetizer) @350 yen - Buckwheat tea 250 yen - Ginger ale 250 yen - Cola 250 yen - Freshly squeezed kiwi sour 450 yen The buckwheat tea has a nice soba aroma and is very delicious. The freshly squeezed kiwi sour is also good with plenty of fruit pulp. - Marbled horse mackerel sashimi 880 yen Not as marbled as shown in the menu photo, but the meat was very tender. - Mizuna and daikon salad 490 yen Plenty of shrimp, looks luxurious, but the shrimp was thinly sliced in half. Crispy plum adds a sour touch. The daikon is fresh and refreshing. - Whole tomato cold simmered 380 yen Uses a whole peeled tomato. Served in a broth with ice and bonito flakes, the broth is light and refreshing. - Deep-fried yam and tofu 480 yen The fried yam is crispy and delicious. The dipping sauce is just right. This was the best dish of the day. - Tuna sashimi platter 790 yen A generous portion, but lacked the flavor of tuna. - Boiled snow crab 790 yen Slightly smelly, the meat was somewhat dry. The body part was difficult to eat, disappointing for crab. - Shrimp gratin pizza 490 yen The shrimp was sliced in half, but visually it looked like a lot. The pizza was average. - Ice cream 3-point assortment Received for free with a secret coupon from Gurunavi. It was a luxurious treat and reportedly delicious.
