The "Ootoya" restaurant in Tachikawa Kitaguchi is located between Isetan and Takashimaya. If you go down next to the Excelsior Cafe Tachikawa Kitaguchi, it's the shortest route. The restaurant was very crowded due to the ongoing New Year holiday. The system is to buy a meal ticket first, but even after that, it was difficult to enter the restaurant immediately, causing a crowd around the entrance where the door couldn't even close properly. It was quite cold while waiting because the cold air would come in when the door opened. After waiting for about 10 minutes, we were seated at the counter.
I ordered the Aged Pork Loin Katsu Donburi (\850) and my wife ordered the Chicken and Vegetable Black Vinegar Ankake (\790). Compared to recent beef bowl chain restaurants, \850 for the katsu donburi is not cheap, but the thick and well-cooked pork, along with the rich and creamy egg, was of good quality. It is higher quality than beef bowl chain restaurants and more casual than family restaurants. The seasoning is slightly strong, perhaps aimed at younger people. However, it seems that they are careful about the ingredients, and I felt satisfied with the quality for the price. If I can't think of a good restaurant to go to, I might visit here again.

Located on the 2nd floor of a mixed-use building sandwiched between Isetan and Takashimaya. The stairs leading up from the back are a bit sketchy, but once inside, it's a quite comfortable restaurant.
I think many people may have seen the Ootoya restaurant in town but haven't actually been inside. It's not a family restaurant, not an udon shop, maybe it's for students living alone. However, it's a surprisingly convenient restaurant for many people. I revisited the restaurant after a long time and was impressed once again.
Visited with my wife on a weekend for lunch. Climbed up to the 2nd floor by stairs and as soon as we entered the restaurant, we were asked to order at the counter near the entrance, which was a bit surprising. I quickly looked at the menu and ordered the Aged Pork Loin Ginger Pork Set Meal (\800) for myself and my wife ordered the Ootoya-style Shrimp Shinjo Salt Soup Set Meal (\790).
We had to wait a bit, but we were seated in about 5 minutes. Since we had already placed our order, we didn't get impatient waiting. The interior of the restaurant is surprisingly modern, more like a restaurant than a set meal shop. The view from the long and narrow windows, with glimpses of the Takashimaya area, was quite nice. The spacing between tables was not wide, but the wide aisle made it feel spacious.
As for the food... I prefer thin meat for ginger pork, but Ootoya uses thick cuts. However, the meat was tender, and although the seasoning was a bit too strong, it had a sweet and savory flavor that went well with the rice. The unique texture added by the starch-like coating on the surface was a good idea. Overall, it seems they use good ingredients. Considering that a ginger pork set meal for \800 is quite a price, with some ingenuity, they can use decent quality ingredients. The shrimp shinjo salt soup that my wife ordered was also delicious, with firm shrimp shinjo and tasty soup.
Overall, I'll rate it as ☆3.0 since it's a chain restaurant, but this place is really good. Instead of having a lunch for around \1,000 at a mediocre restaurant or family restaurant, it seems more satisfying to order what you like here. The restaurant is a bit cramped, but the layout is solid, and the atmosphere is surprisingly good. It seems like a useful place for families, couples, individuals, and a wide range of ages. I'll keep this in mind for future visits.
