I visited the 8th generation Gihei restaurant that I have always wanted to go to! I arrived around 13:45 on a weekday. There were 3 groups waiting, so I wrote my name on the reception table at the entrance and lined up along the sidewalk. It seems that if your name is called and you are not in line, you will be considered a cancellation. I was able to get in smoothly in about 10 minutes! Lucky to have avoided the peak hours! Since I was alone, I was guided to the counter on the first floor and my meal was served in about 3 minutes! It's fast! I was asked for my order while waiting outside, so they may be preparing the food before guiding you! The meal includes silver-shine rice, fried chicken, salad, miso soup, pickles, 3 sheets of seaweed, and dried small fish. Rice is free for seconds, and it seems that there are crispy rice grains in the seconds, so I started eating the rice assuming that I would have seconds! First, of course, the silver-shine rice! From the appearance, the rice grains are shiny and standing out! I have never seen rice like this before! When I took a bite, the freshly cooked rice aroma passed from my mouth to my nose! It's delicious! I ate about 5 mouthfuls of just rice without anything else. I thought it was great to be Japanese! Then, without touching the fried chicken, I had a bite of pickles, then rice, pickles, rice... This simple combination is delicious! The best rice with Kyoto pickles, the saltiness matches perfectly! I wish I could eat it cheaper with just this combination, but I moved on to the fried chicken and miso soup. Since the first rice was almost gone with just pickles, I had seconds! There was crispy rice in it! The crispy and fragrant burnt rice is delicious, but the silver-shine rice is still the best. The fried chicken has a crispy coating and juicy inside, it's delicious without any complaints. The miso soup also has a strong flavor and is delicious! However, it didn't surpass the excitement of the delicious rice! I had seconds of rice with fried chicken and miso soup, and I sprinkled salt and sesame salt from the table on it! Then, I had seconds again! This is the third bowl. Lastly, I had the egg, "Bungo no Ibuki" for Tamago Kake Gohan (TKG). Oh, you know what TKG is, right? It's rice with raw egg. I poured the egg into a hole in the middle of the rice, mixed it, and ate it! I used the 3 sheets of seaweed that I saved for TKG to roll and eat, or just ate it by pouring it in! Oh, it was delicious! It was really delicious! I'm very satisfied!! Finally, I took a break with hot tea, then paid at the counter. They only accept cash or PayPay. Kyoto seems to be welcoming back tourists, there are foreigners, couples in kimonos, and female groups everywhere! I think I'll come back around the time when the autumn leaves are gone! Thank you for the meal!
