I visited "Ore no Tempura," which I had been curious about, after making a reservation. The area around Shinbashi on Friday was bustling with people, reminiscent of the pre-COVID crowds. The bar here was also packed, with even the outdoor standing area full of customers. Inside, the space was narrow with a counter in the shape of a "C" for standing customers, and surrounding that were reserved seats with high chairs at standing tables. This is reminiscent of the style when Ore no Tempura first opened. Orders were placed by scanning the QR code on the table, selecting items from the menu, and adding them to the cart for ordering. Due to the full house, there was a bit of a wait between ordering and receiving the dishes. They offered two types of salt (normal and smoked), tempura dipping sauce, ponzu truffle sauce, and sea urchin sauce, but we mainly stuck with the two types of salt. The tempura had a variety of unique ingredients, which may be hit or miss depending on personal preference. The tempura of traditional Edo-style ingredients was not quite up to par, giving off a feeling that it lacked the touch of a seasoned chef... Hopefully, things will improve in the future! The following is the list of items we ordered:
- Nuts appetizer: 380 yen (tax included)
- Prosciutto and Hokkaido potato salad: 580 yen (tax included)
- TTKG (egg tempura with truffle): 380 yen (tax included)
- Tempura:
- Baby corn (2 pieces): 240 yen (tax included)
- Mozzarella cheese sticks: 280 yen (tax included)
- Romanesco: 480 yen (tax included)
- Whole fruit tomato: 380 yen (tax included)
- Black maitake mushrooms (2 cuts): 480 yen (tax included)
- Large kiss fish: 380 yen (tax included)
- Belt fish: 480 yen (tax included)
- Cream cheese marinated in sweet Kyoto miso: 420 yen (tax included)
- Chicken (domestic): 380 yen (tax included)
- Jumbo shrimp: 540 yen (tax included)
- Black wagyu beef fillet: 1380 yen (tax included)
We ordered wine by the bottle for better value, including sparkling and red wine. Although I did not drink, sake was served in wine glasses. The taste of the ingredients was good and delicious, but the frying was a bit lacking. The wagyu fillet and vegetable tempura were delicious, and the side dishes other than tempura were also tasty and recommended! The quality of the tempura is slightly above that of an izakaya... It seems like the chef may not be a seasoned professional? Overall, the Ore series offers good value for money, but the quality may vary depending on the items chosen. The side dishes other than tempura seem to offer better value and taste. If it's the Ore series, I would recommend the Italian or French options for a leisurely dining experience, like at Grand Maison! Compared to other restaurants, the rating has dropped. There were also times when orders did not arrive, requiring reminders... Perhaps the new store is still working out its operations? I look forward to improvements in the future.
