I came back late and ended up at Matsunoya. The pork cutlet set meal is only 590 yen, which is surprising enough, but for a limited time, it seems you can have unlimited rice and miso soup refills! During the pandemic, I have been relying on takeout from here, so it was nice to visit again. The interior of the shop has been remodeled and looks beautiful. Thank you for the meal!

"Matsunoya," a tonkatsu restaurant in the Matsuya series, is a valuable find as it stays open until late at night. Their chicken tenderloin katsu and tonkatsu are crispy and delicious, making it worth regular visits. The pork loin katsu set meal is only 590 yen, which is incredibly cheap. They also serve beer and lemon sour, making it a great place for a quick drink alone.

I visited a tonkatsu chain restaurant called "Matsunoya Shimbashi" on a Saturday evening in August 2023, a little after 5 pm. It is located about a 3-minute walk from Uchisaiwaicho Station. The restaurant had a cozy interior with two other customers already inside. I used the ticket machine to order the "Authentic Fried Chicken Curry" for ¥630 and added a side of shredded cabbage for ¥80. I sat at the counter and waited for about 5 minutes until my number was called to pick up my food. The curry rice came with fried chicken and tartar sauce on top, along with Fukujinzuke on the side. I first tried the curry sauce and rice alone, finding it surprisingly sweet with a rich flavor. I wished it had a bit more of a cheap and spicy taste, reminiscent of the old Matsuya curry. When I tried the fried chicken with tartar sauce on the curry rice, it created a deliciously indulgent taste. While I think it's better to eat the fried chicken and curry rice separately to fully appreciate their flavors, there was a unique charm in enjoying them together. I also tried the shredded cabbage with both carrot dressing and sudachi dressing provided on the table. The carrot dressing had a distinct Matsunoya flavor, but ultimately, the cabbage tasted best with tonkatsu sauce. The "Authentic Fried Chicken Curry" had a satisfying portion size and was a bit too rich to eat alone, making the cabbage a good complement. The restaurant is located slightly away from the bustling dining area of Shimbashi, providing a calm and enjoyable dining experience.

Lately, I've been feeling a bit weak due to the summer heat, so I've been eating a lot of noodles to help settle my stomach. But finally, I'm starting to feel better. On this hot day in Shinbashi, I was on my way to a certain udon shop when I spotted a poster for one of my favorite dishes! (Yes, this is it!) I immediately headed to the restaurant. This time, I went to Matsunoya in Shinbashi. The vending machine had a button for their featured menu item, which was clearly highlighted. The seasonal vegetable and authentic fried chicken soup curry for 980 yen. You could choose the amount of rice, and being a big eater, I went for the large serving. The catchphrase on the poster said, "Matsuya, My Curry Dining can't imitate this." Seems like they have a competitive spirit! First, I took a spoonful of the soup curry. It had a slightly thick texture and a bit of spiciness, a taste that would appeal to many. The rice was cooked a bit firm, and dipping it into the soup curry, it tasted really good. The ingredients included fried chicken, boiled egg, lotus root, snow peas, eggplant, pumpkin, and potatoes. The presentation wasn't as neat as the menu photo, but the content was the same, which was totally fine with me. Among the ingredients, the fried chicken was the most impressive. I've had a lot of soup curry before, but this was a first for me. It was delicious on its own, but combined with the curry, it transformed into something extraordinary. Next, I tried the boiled egg. It was whole and slightly firm, with a nice yellow color. Soup curry is great because you can enjoy various ingredients while eating the curry. As I continued to eat and enjoy the flavors, the curry plate was empty. I had ordered a large serving of rice, so there was some left over. I found a coupon in my wallet, sprinkled it on the rice, and finished it off deliciously. My stomach was full, and I was very satisfied with this soup curry. It makes me wonder if there is really competition within the group. I look forward to seeing how things develop in the future. Thank you for the meal.

Here is a review of a Twitter campaign where I tried the Rosu Milfeuille Katsu set meal. This was a limited-time menu item that I had wanted to try. While Kimukatsu is famous for their Milfeuille Katsu, this one was also good. *Note: This menu item is no longer available.

I had the Oroshi Rosukatsu set meal (500 yen) at Matsunoya. I rarely see Matsunoya in my area and don't visit often. On this day, as I was walking after finishing my errands, I came across Matsunoya. I thought, "How about having tonkatsu..." However, it was close to evening and most places were closed. I remembered about a coupon on an app and checked it out. The coupon offered the set meal for 500 yen, even if I upgraded to a large serving of rice. Despite my concerns about oily food, I decided to go for the Oroshi Rosukatsu set meal with a large serving of rice. The portion of the rosukatsu was not large, but it was sufficient. I enjoyed eating it with grated daikon radish, green onions, and ponzu sauce. The standard table sauces like tonkatsu sauce and mustard were also available, so I enjoyed it with cabbage. It was a bold move to use the coupon, but I was very satisfied with my early evening meal. I skipped dinner that day.

I recently visited Matsunoya, a restaurant I had heard about for a long time but never had the chance to try. They had two ticket machines, with one being cashless only. I saw a man in front of me give up and leave, maybe he found the purchasing process confusing. After buying a ticket, I waited until my number was called. It only took a few minutes. I ordered the Pork Cutlet Set with extra rice for 590 yen, which came with miso soup. The portion was a bit small, but for 590 yen, the amount of rice, cabbage, and miso soup was a great deal. They had both medium and thick sauce, carrot dressing, mustard, and ponzu sauce for you to customize your dish. The rice was cooked well. The restaurant was also clean and nice for a place in Shinbashi.

I knew about Matsunoya before, but I didn't know it was affiliated with the gyudon chain Matsuya. I purchased a ticket from the ticket machine, then sat down and waited. They also serve pork cutlet. I wanted to try the fried chicken, so I ordered that. The freshly fried chicken arrived. It came with shredded cabbage, rice, and miso soup. It was very simple. The batter was a bit hard, but the meat was tender and delicious. It was a substantial meal and very satisfying. I felt a bit unsatisfied, though. Thank you for the meal.

Tonkatsu can be heavy for breakfast, but everyone seems to have the same thought. This restaurant specializes in tonkatsu, but they also offer a variety of breakfast options in the morning. One of their breakfast sets is the Grilled Salmon Set (with small rice) for 490 yen. "Matsunoya" is a place where you can enjoy tonkatsu at a reasonable price. As I looked around the restaurant, I noticed quite a few salarymen dining there. Without doing any research, I decided to enter. Looking at the ticket machine, I saw that they offer breakfast sets. I ordered the Grilled Salmon Set with my favorite natto on the side. The set came with shredded cabbage (potato salad included), and a generous portion. There was also finely chopped green onion to add to the natto. They had my favorite carrot dressing available as well. The carrot dressing was rich and flavorful, without the strong carrot taste. It made me feel like I could eat unlimited cabbage with it. The Grilled Salmon Set came with shredded cabbage, which was unexpected. I mixed the natto with the green onion and prepared to eat. I started with the salad, then the carbohydrates. The salmon had a strong saltiness, which was balanced out by the grated radish. It was delicious, although I wished the salmon was a bit thicker. Before I knew it, I had finished the meal. Today, I was glad to have the strong flavors of natto as a side dish. It was a well-balanced breakfast. Rice with natto, miso soup with grilled salmon - this was truly a classic and satisfying Japanese breakfast. Unexpectedly enjoyed at a tonkatsu specialty restaurant!

I went to Shinbashi and visited Matsunoya Shinbashi branch. I purchased a ticket for "Miso Tonkatsu Set" at the ticket machine and sat at the counter seat. The "Miso Tonkatsu Set" comes with miso sauce in a separate container, so you can enjoy various sauces such as medium-thick and special in addition to miso sauce. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. Infection prevention measures: Hand sanitizer: ✔ Ventilation: ✔ Social distancing: ✔ Partition, seat spacing Staff wearing masks: ✔ Temperature check upon entry: None

I went to "Matsunoya Shinbashi" in Minato-ku, Tokyo. The location is on Shinbashi Nakadori, heading towards Hibiya Street. There is a ticket machine at the entrance, one for cashless payment only and the other for cash as well. I realized that I had been only eating pork cutlets for the past six months at tonkatsu restaurants, so this time I ordered the authentic fried chicken set here. The price was 690 yen with free extra rice. There were four slightly smaller fried chicken pieces than in the picture. The cabbage came with a dressing blended with carrots and sudachi citrus. It was delicious, but I felt a bit unsatisfied after eating. I realized that increasing the amount of fried chicken would be the best choice. I now understand why I had been eating the heavy pork cutlets. Thank you for the meal.

To eat at Matsuya and get full for a good deal, it's convenient to use shareholder discount vouchers. Today, I bought one for 750 yen at a ticket shop in front of Shinbashi Station. Without hesitation, I ordered the most expensive set meal - the pork cutlet and 2 fried shrimp set. It's about 300 yen cheaper. Both the pork cutlet and fried shrimp are fried after you order, so they are served hot and crispy. Even for a big eater like me, finishing this set was a challenge. Thank you for the meal.

After reading Mairebi's post, I visited the Tonkatsu Matsunoya Shinbashi branch to take advantage of their limited-time New Year's one-coin sale. I ordered the Oroshi Ponzu Rosukatsu Teishoku with extra rice for 500 yen from the ticket machine and handed the food ticket to the staff. The freshly fried Rosukatsu, topped with grated daikon and ponzu sauce, was light and delicious. In the midst of the pandemic, with a decrease in customers, it's tough for restaurants to survive with cheap and tasteless options. However, this place uses carefully selected pork and frying oil, and the rice is also delicious. The Rosukatsu at the ends without grated daikon were tasty with mustard and sauce. I enjoyed a delicious and affordable meal.

Limited time offer: Mountain vegetable grated ponzu sauce pork cutlet set meal (large serving) for 500 yen From 1/12 to 1/19, Matsunoya will be offering the pork cutlet set meal for 500 yen. Although Matsunoya is not usually within my usual range, I remembered that there is one in Shinbashi and decided to stop by. I faced the touch panel ticket machine and selected the "Mountain vegetable grated ponzu sauce pork cutlet set meal" from the 500 yen menu corner. In addition to the regular pork cutlet set meal, the grated ponzu sauce and miso cutlet set meals are also available for 500 yen. And, the rice can be served in a large portion as a service. The restaurant was about half full on a Sunday morning around 10 o'clock. The kitchen staff seemed a bit stressed and the atmosphere was lively. It took a bit of time before the meal was served. The dish arrived and it looked quite impressive. The pork cutlet was thicker than expected and topped with plenty of grated vegetables. The rice served in a large portion was in a big bowl. The pork cutlet was about 1cm thick with a light and crispy coating. It had a good flavor and went well with the generous amount of grated vegetables on top. The miso soup was on the salty side with plenty of rehydrated wakame seaweed. The cabbage added a refreshing touch. Overall, for 500 yen, this meal was satisfying. Although I don't have much experience with Matsunoya, I might visit again before the end of the promotion period.

There is a shop on the first floor of a mixed-use building along Nishi-Nakadori in Shinbashi. It is located slightly towards Toranomon in the somewhat shady area of Shinbashi. There are counter seats, table seats, and two ticket machines. From January 12th to 19th, there is a limited-time offer where three set meals are available for just one coin (500 yen) including tax, and I stopped by on the second day of this offer. The place was packed with salarymen finishing work. In a time when price increases are prevalent, events like this that go against the trend are welcome. I had the mountain-sized grated ponzu sauce pork cutlet set meal. Normally priced at 690 yen including tax. You can choose the amount of rice when purchasing the meal ticket. However, since this is not a self-service restaurant, you cannot get a rice refill. The mountain-sized grated ponzu sauce pork cutlet consists of a pork cutlet topped with grated daikon radish and green onion. The ponzu sauce is served separately. The grated ponzu sauce is refreshing and delicious. It goes perfectly with the crispy breaded pork cutlet. The cabbage comes with carrot dressing, and I opted for a large serving of rice, which left me feeling full. Thank you for the meal!

Even on Christmas, I finished my overtime work and dropped by Matsunoya. It was a relief that we could dine in the restaurant until late due to the lifting of the state of emergency. I got a 30 yen discount on a pork cutlet bowl using the Matsuya app. The pork cutlet was served piping hot, which was a pleasant surprise as it was not the usual pre-made one. It was a long time since I had such a cheap and delicious pork cutlet bowl. Thank you for the meal.

I wanted to go to a curry restaurant, but it was closed and I had limited time for lunch, so I ended up at a nearby chain restaurant. Once inside, I remembered that I had eaten tonkatsu yesterday, so I changed my order to "Katsudon for 590 yen." The poster at the entrance for the "Kakekatsumeshi" was sold out... Perhaps an issue with their operation? I prefer the katsudon from a different chain restaurant.

On August 27th, I visited Matsunoya Shinbashi branch for breakfast. I ordered the Tokumori Asa Rosukatsu Teishoku with a side of small rice and natto. The pork cutlet was larger and softer than I expected, with a crispy coating that wasn't too greasy. The miso soup had a rich flavor, and I prefer it over Matsuya's. Instead of shredded cabbage, I'm at an age where I prefer to have some pickles on the side (laughs).

I purchased Matsuya's shareholder special tickets at the ticket shop in front of Shimbashi Station and went straight to Matsunoya. I tried the menu item that costs over 1,000 yen, which I normally wouldn't eat, and asked for "the most expensive one, please." By the time I left the restaurant, my stomach was completely full.

I had the morning rosukatsu set. I used to visit Matsunoya before the pandemic, so I decided to come back based on that image. The prices have gone up a bit since then! The choice of side dishes has changed too. The raw egg is gone, replaced with osinko or croquette. I ended up choosing the croquette, but it turned out to be a heavy combination for breakfast. Maybe tonkatsu with a raw egg like before would have been a better choice. Well, getting a proper tonkatsu for 490 yen is still lucky, right?
