"When you eat the ★★★ here, you won't be able to eat it anywhere else!" You often hear this kind of talk when you're out eating. To put it simply, it's like finally finding a dish that perfectly matches the ★★★. The nearest station is Shiodome Station, but I went from JR Shinbashi Station's Karasumori exit and it's about a 10-minute walk to this Kyushu cuisine restaurant. It's run by a former sumo wrestler, who manages everything alone. ● Motsunabe (serves 1: 1450 yen, available from 2 servings) There are three flavors: soy sauce, salt, and spicy motsu. I chose the soy sauce flavor, which is the most popular. When the motsunabe arrived, I was amazed by the size and quantity of the motsu, and regretted ordering extra motsu. Once it's cooked, I added a lot of white sesame seeds, and when the cabbage and leeks softened, it was ready. When I took a bite of the motsunabe, the sweetness of the motsu, the saltiness of the soy sauce, and the flavor of the chicken broth were beautiful. It was completely different from the motsunabe I had eaten before, which had a strong garlic soup with lots of cabbage (and bean sprouts) and small pieces of motsu. Seriously, I can't imagine eating any other motsunabe besides the one here. For the finish, they offer champon noodles, zosui (rice porridge), and Marutai stick ramen, and I chose the champon noodles. ● Horumon teppanyaki (Horumon-yama: 1100 yen) This dish is cooked on a hot plate with a slightly strong sauce, motsu, and cabbage. When you look at the photo, it may not seem like there's a lot, but when you actually eat it, you'll see that about 80% of it is motsu. This would go well with a cold beer. ● Mabo motsu tofu The owner used to be a sumo wrestler and also ran a Chinese restaurant, so there's a remnant of that with the mapo tofu. It has just the right amount of spiciness, and you can feel the sweetness of the large pieces of motsu within the heat. ● Kashiwa negi ponz This dish is different from the previous two, it's light, made with the seseri part. I really like this part in yakitori, and even boiled and eaten with ponzu sauce, it's really delicious. We visited as a group of two and had two servings of motsunabe, but it might be good to go with about four people and have two servings of motsunabe and other dishes. I have a feeling that I'm going to get hooked on this restaurant."

I infiltrated at Tagawa for the first time. Everything is delicious, but the motsunabe (soy sauce flavor) is the best. The chewy motsu is excellent, and after champon noodles, you can fully enjoy motsunabe as a Fukuoka resident. It seemed like you could also have it with rice porridge, but I had to give up due to being full.

Located on the outskirts of Shinbashi, this restaurant specializes in Hakata-style motsunabe and Chikuhou teppanyaki. The motsu (offal) is fresh and delicious, and goes perfectly with shochu. I chose the salt-based motsunabe this time, but I'm curious about the soy sauce-based one for next time. It's not the kind of place you just stumble upon, but it's always full so reservations are recommended. I was impressed and will definitely be going back.

I finally went to the izakaya in Shinbashi that had been popping up in conversations here and there, right before winter ended... I saw it recommended on a gourmet account on Twitter by someone from Fukuoka, saying it tasted like Fukuoka's motsunabe. The owner, a former sumo wrestler, was running the place single-handedly with just 3 tables, and the motsunabe was big and bouncy and delicious~ I love motsunabe, so I tried the recommended soy sauce flavor! The menu mostly consists of motsu dishes, from the classic motsunabe to motsu mapo tofu and teppanyaki, and motsu with ponzu sauce for snacks, all with rich flavors that go well with alcohol. Especially the teppanyaki was seriously delicious, it was the best. It had a super indulgent flavor, with plenty of motsu and vegetables that were cooked soft and tasty. If I were at home, I would have put it over a bowl of rice and eaten it... I ate the motsunabe like a drink, slurped up the champon noodles for the finish, drank some more alcohol, and the bill was less than 4000 yen per person. It was a 2-hour limit, so there wasn't much time to relax, but I want to go again, there are still more dishes I want to try~ ・Price per person: ¥3,500~ ◾︎Soy sauce motsunabe: ¥1,600 per person ◾︎Champon noodles: ¥380 ◾︎Tagawa Hormone Teppanyaki Botayama (small): ¥1,200 ◾︎Vinegar motsu: ¥550 ◾︎Potato salad with mentaiko: ¥550 #Tagawa #Shinbashi #ShinbashiGourmet #ShinbashiIzakaya #Shiodome #ShiodomeGourmet #ShinbashiDrinking #HakataMotsunabe #Motsunabe #SoySauceMotsunabe #Motsuyaki #Hormone #HormoneYaki #Izakaya #IzakayaFood #IzakayaMenu #IzakayaGourmet #HiddenGem #NabeStagram #DrinkingStagram #NomiStagram #FoodPorn #FoodStagram #ConnectingWithPeopleWhoLoveDeliciousFood #JapaneseFood

Tagawa Sakaba Tagawa, located in Shinbashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. The owner is a former sumo wrestler from Tagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, known as "Wakadagawa." After retiring in 1991, he ran a Chinese restaurant in the Ginza area that focused on rice porridge dishes, but later transitioned to a new restaurant featuring dishes such as chicken hot pot, Hakata motsunabe, and Chikuhou teppanyaki, incorporating local cuisine and his sumo wrestling experience. The cozy restaurant has a total of 20 seats with 4 seats at each of the 5 tables. Despite being run by the owner alone, the service for both drinks and food is smooth and stress-free. Reservations are a must. Recommended dishes include the salt motsunabe, sesame mackerel, mapo tofu with motsu, harami yakisoba, and salted cabbage. The salt motsunabe features large, deliciously tender motsu in a flavorful broth that is not too heavy. The owner has found a good source for quality ingredients in Tokyo, resulting in a delightful dining experience. The mapo tofu with motsu has a shrimp chili-like flavor and pairs well with drinks. While the restaurant may be a bit far from the station and the seating is tight, the owner's friendly personality makes it a must-visit spot. I look forward to trying the chanko made by the former sumo wrestler in the future. Overall, this is a great restaurant worth visiting again. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I went to this restaurant in search of delicious motsu, as I am from Fukuoka. It had been a while since I had vinegar motsu, so I was happy to find it here. Not only the motsu nabe, but all the dishes were nostalgic, especially the stick ramen which was excellent. When you want to eat delicious motsu, this is a must-visit restaurant with great value for money. I definitely want to go back again.

◼️Previous Tabelog rating: 3.07 (February 2022) Genre: Chanko Nabe and Motsu Nabe ◼️What we ate: - Hormone Teppanyaki (1100 yen) - Mapo Motsu Tofu (880 yen) - Grilled Chicken with Green Onions and Ponzu Sauce (680 yen) - Soy Sauce Motsu Nabe (1450 yen for 2 people) - Additional Motsu (880 yen) - Zosui (430 yen) ◆Overall Impression◆ The hormone was incredibly delicious. It was so soft and melted in your mouth. The best motsu nabe I have ever had, and the price was reasonable too! Amazing! ◆Hormone Teppanyaki (1100 yen) So delicious! The hormone here is amazing. The skin is thin, and it's not chewy at all. It's fatty and tender. The seasoning with garlic is great, and it goes well with sake. They don't provide rice, but you'll want some with this dish. ◆Mapo Motsu Tofu (880 yen) This mapo tofu is not very spicy and easy to eat. It's my first time having mapo tofu with hormone, and it's quite good. The tofu makes it lighter compared to other hormone dishes. ◆Grilled Chicken with Green Onions and Ponzu Sauce (680 yen) A quick appetizer made with chicken tenderloin. It came out fast! ◆Soy Sauce Motsu Nabe (1450 yen for 2 people) ◆Additional Motsu (880 yen) ◆Zosui (430 yen) Delicious! The soup is not too salty or heavy. The size and amount of hormone in the nabe were impressive. Look at the additional hormone portion, too. I was very satisfied. ◼️The restaurant is small with table seating and TVs. ◼️It's always crowded, so it's better to make a reservation. ◼️The service was excellent, the staff was very friendly!

I heard a rumor that the best motsunabe (tripe hot pot) in Tokyo can be found here. I have tried motsunabe at various restaurants in Hakata, but I have never had tripe as tender and delicious as here. The tripe is incredibly fresh and tasty. And it's also very affordable. Other tripe dishes are also delicious. The master, who is originally from Tagawa and used to be a sumo wrestler, runs the place alone and I heard he sources the tripe from Tagawa in Fukuoka. There are only three tables, so reservations are a must. Some groups left because it was fully booked. This is what they mean by a hidden gem restaurant.

I visited the restaurant with two of my high school juniors. The name of the restaurant, "Tagawa," is a place in Fukuoka, and as someone from Fukuoka, I had always been curious about this restaurant every time I passed by. Finally, I had the chance to visit. The restaurant is run by a former sumo wrestler who is also from Tagawa, Fukuoka. When I mentioned Tagawa, the owner shared that it is also the hometown of comedians like Kotoge, Bakarhythm, IKKO, and Yosui Inoue. We started with a toast of draft beer and looked at the menu, which had a variety of tempting dishes. We ordered the Tagawa Hormone Teppanyaki Ozeki, Chicken Leek Pons, Hakata's classic vinegar motsu, and Hakata Gobugobu. Unfortunately, the sesame mackerel, a soul food for people from Fukuoka, was not available that day, so we ordered the sesame paste instead. The Hakata Gobugobu was a pickled radish, which served as a good appetizer. Next came the Chicken Leek Pons, which was incredibly delicious and went well with alcohol. We then switched from beer to black Kirishima EX, served with water. We managed to finish all the drinks that day, but the owner mentioned that they can keep a bottle for up to two months. The sesame paste that came next was colorful, crunchy, and extremely tasty. The vinegar motsu, a classic dish, was also delicious, and the shochu went down smoothly. The highlight was the Tagawa Hormone. The hot teppanyaki-grilled hormone was juicy, well-balanced with vegetables, and had an exquisite sauce. We felt like having rice with it. We then ordered the Mabo Motsu Tofu as an additional dish, which turned out to be a great choice. It was like Mabo Tofu with meat, but with hormone. It was incredibly delicious and went well with the shochu. Finally, we ordered the soy sauce motsu nabe. The vegetable assortment was not as generous as Hakata's, but the hormone sourced from Tagawa shone in the motsu nabe. It was one of the best I've had in Tokyo. We ended the meal with Champon noodles, which were also incredibly delicious. We made a firm promise to have more gatherings at this restaurant in the future. The food was excellent, the owner's stories were interesting, and I regret not visiting sooner. The restaurant can be reserved for up to 15 people, and can accommodate up to 20 people, so I will definitely be coming back for more, especially for high school reunions. Thank you for the wonderful meal. It was truly a happy time.

The members of my workplace made a reservation for us, and we all visited for the first time. The salted motsu in the motsu nabe was tender and had no unpleasant smell, it was delicious. The vinegar motsu and side dishes were also tasty. Please note that they are only open on the first and third Saturdays (although this may change). The only downside is that it's difficult to get to the restroom, but I definitely want to go again.

Wakatagawa's restaurant, owned by former sumo wrestler Wakatagawa, welcomes customers with a photo of his retirement ceremony with his mentors, the second generation Wakano Hana, Chiyonofuji, and Kitanoumi. The motsunabe here is unbelievably delicious, even compared to famous spots in Fukuoka. The added tsukune, finishing with stick ramen, and side dishes like gobugobu and vinegar motsu are also top-notch. Next time, I will try the curry chanpon nabe.

In December 2021, I went to a restaurant on the street near the liquor store I often visit. I love motsu nabe, so I was curious about this place and decided to go with a friend. We made a reservation about a week in advance, and it was a good thing we did because the restaurant was fully booked on the day of our visit. It seemed like they were short-staffed as well, as it took a while to place our order. However, everything we ordered was delicious - from gobugobu, goma saba, cabbage, and hormone teppanyaki to the motsu nabe we ordered with a spicy and flavorful broth. The motsu was chewy and tasty. We finished our meal with stick ramen, which was amazing. Despite the tight space, we had a great dining experience and I would love to go back again.

This restaurant is run by a former sumo wrestler and serves Chikugo-style cuisine. Their main dishes are chanko and motsu nabe, which are delicious and great value for money. I always order the motsu nabe and leave satisfied every time. The restaurant is small.
