I found a great cafe located behind Kyoto University, with a large property and a charming atmosphere. Situated on a hill, the cafe offers a view of Kyoto city. Upon entering the cafe on the second floor, I noticed several tables and read the rules, including no filming. I looked at the menu and ordered the fig chiffon cake and Earl Grey set. I had never seen a fig chiffon cake before, so I decided to try it. It was served with whipped cream and fig jam, but the fig flavor was not very prominent. The view was nice too!

Located on the mountainside of Yoshida-yama in Sakyo-ku, this restaurant is said to be a renovated dining hall of a mansion from the Taisho era. The building has windows on all sides, providing an outstanding sense of openness. In a tranquil setting, you can enjoy a luxurious time. I had hot wine. According to the owner, the best seasons here are summer evenings or autumn foliage, but I heard that the rainy season is also good. I want to try all three seasons. I don't know, though.

The restaurant was closed, but they were serving kaiseki meals for a limited time in November. Located up a stone staircase, it was a nice hike from Demachiyanagi Station. I enjoyed a kaiseki bento box and local sake, creating a blissful moment. The matcha tea and sweets, including cookies made without butter, were very healthy. I look forward to visiting again when they reopen.

I climbed from Kibune to Mt. Daimon in the morning, and descended around 10 o'clock. I walked from Ginkakuji towards this shop, which I visited alone for the first time. I aimed to arrive by the opening time of 11:30, but surprisingly arrived around 10:50. There were already several groups of customers ahead of me, and I was the third in line. As I waited, more and more people arrived, and by 11 o'clock, there were probably enough customers to fill the seats. There were many mosquitoes, but I waited leisurely in the beautiful green surroundings. At 11:30, it was my turn to enter the shop. I was seated at the counter by the window. I looked at the menu while waiting to order. I had walked a lot in the morning and was very hungry, so I ordered the regular 2-piece set of pita bread. Of course, I also ordered a beer. After hiking, nothing beats a beer. I had initially planned to order the daily special set, but it was no longer on the menu. Disappointing. I was told it might take a while, so I hesitated between just ordering a beer. However, I waited patiently. I didn't touch my phone or read a book, just gazed at the outside scenery. It was so soothing. When I come here, it feels like toxins are being released from my forehead. Haha. The scenery was amazing, and before I knew it, the beer arrived. I couldn't wait for the pita bread and took a sip. Ah, the best. I think that moment was the happiest I've ever been. While I was thinking that, the pita bread arrived. I ordered chicken and vegetable varieties. Personally, I loved the vegetable pita bread the most. The eggplant and zucchini, with what seemed like a homemade basil sauce, were a great match. This made the beer go down even smoother. I wanted to drink more, but I had to drive in the evening, so I savored my one glass. I wanted to stay longer, but there were many people waiting, so I left the shop early. The sad truth came when I paid the bill. This place will be closing on August 14th. Shocking. I vowed to come back several times before then and left the shop. I want to visit on a rainy day next. I'm sure the sound of rain and the beauty of the greenery will captivate my heart.

Visited before opening ✧︎ There is a free parking lot along the road where you can park up to 3 cars. If you arrive before opening, you can park, but it depends on the timing. Once you go up the stairs next to the sign, it feels like you're in a light forest, and the restaurant is at the top. Since it's natural, there are insects. 😂 I arrived a little after 11 o'clock and there were a few groups waiting, they can accommodate up to 7-8 groups for the first round. Ordered items: ・Pita Pan Sandwich ¥1400 Comes with side dishes, soup, and a small drink (seasonal vegetables, lotus root and bamboo shoots, Tandoori miso chicken) The combination of lotus root and bamboo shoots was delicious and unbeatable. ・Taco Rice Large ¥1400 + additional charge? Comes with side dishes, soup, and a small drink. I mainly ate the taco rice, and the large onions and flavorful minced meat with cheese were really delicious. Depending on where you sit, you can also see Mt. Ooyama, making it a very lovely space. This was my second visit, but it's a place I would like to visit again.

I was finally able to visit Shoran in Kyoto, which had been recommended to me by many people. I had heard that it was a bit of a walk from the parking lot along a mountain path, so I thought it might be empty on a rainy day. However, it was unexpectedly full! But luckily, I was able to find a seat. The view in all directions, the traditional Kyoto buildings, and the atmosphere were all wonderful. The menu had creative items like taco rice set, pita bread sandwich, and various cakes. The food was healthy and just right in terms of taste. I enjoyed my time there and was glad I came. You have to take off your shoes before entering.

I went on a short hike and found a charming shop surrounded by trees. I arrived 20 minutes before opening time, but there were already about 6 groups of customers who had written their names on the list. I added my name to the list and was able to enter when the shop opened. All the seats were on the second floor, and the view from the window was all green and pleasant. I had the regular size pita pan sandwich with tandoori miso chicken and egg salad. Both fillings were elaborate and delicious. The bread was thin but tasty. The only downside was having to take off shoes upon entering.

A cafe recommended by an acquaintance. It is located in the mountains, about a 10-minute drive from the free parking lot, and you have to climb the mountain for about 10 minutes (subjectively) to get there. I went twice in the early afternoon, and both times I had to wait. It's a great place to relax in a calm atmosphere surrounded by nature. However, since it's in the mountains, there is nothing nearby, so it's a dilemma whether to wait there or go down once and climb back up.

After having lunch at "Kani Doraku Kyoto Honten" in Teramachi, we decided to go to either "Cafe Shin-Kan" or "Moan" in Yoshida mountain. We took a Kyoto City bus, which we don't usually ride, to get there. In the end, we chose "Moan" and after a little uphill walk, we arrived. When we got there, there were some seats available, but it quickly filled up with new customers coming in constantly. There seems to be a waiting area downstairs, so even if it gets crowded, it should be okay. (Note: Cashless payment not accepted during the visit, and there is no Wi-Fi in the premises)

Hidden cafe Muan located in the mountains. It was a weekday lunchtime and there were few people, so I was able to easily visit. It was my third time visiting, but I still got lost on the way, haha. I ordered the mackerel sandwich and an affogato dessert with matcha sprinkled on top. Both were delicious. What's really lovely about Muan is the solemn atmosphere up in the mountains. It's very calming. The journey there is also enjoyable with the deep green scenery.

I got lost and took a roundabout way, but I finally made it. The restaurant is popular but has limited seating, so there might be a wait. Depending on the season, if the wait seems long, you can write your name down and visit Yoshida Shrine before coming back. The pita sandwich I had was delicious, and the view from the cafe on the 2nd floor was refreshing. I would love to come back during the May maple leaf season.

I arrived around 14:20. There were about 10 groups waiting, and I was told the wait time was about 1 hour, so I took a walk to Shinnyo-do Temple. When I returned in less than an hour, it seemed like they had already called the next person after me. I informed them that I had returned, and shortly after, I was called. I had the sweet potato chocolate cake and skipped the drink because I thought I had consumed too much caffeine. It had a simple taste. If there wasn't a wait time, it would have been better.

Visited Moin at Yoshidayama for the first time ✨* A cafe in an old folk house located at an altitude of over 100 meters on the summit of Yoshidayama. Without any clear image in mind, as I got closer, I saw a signboard like a trailhead. I climbed the stone-paved stairs for a while, and then another signboard appeared. Passing through a small entrance that I would have definitely missed without the signboard, I leisurely walked along the grassy mountain path. The road was all paved, making it easy to walk, but it was quite steep. After climbing the mountain path, I finally arrived at the cafe. (About a 10-minute walk from the trailhead to the cafe)* Although it is located in Kyoto, it is a very difficult place to reach, and it is on the summit, so I thought it would be empty. However, when I arrived at 2:20 PM, there were already 8 groups of customers (about 20 people) ahead of me.* I waited outside for a while, surrounded by the scent of mosquito coils, and then waited in the waiting area on the first floor for about an hour... Finally, I reached the cafe space on the second floor.* Climbing the steep stairs, the bright interior on the second floor felt like a completely different world from the first floor, with a view of Mt. Daimonji to the east and Kyoto city to the west.* I had the Pita Pan Sandwich (Tandoori Chicken + grilled summer vegetables).* The combination of grilled eggplant and zucchini mixed with basil sauce and sandwiched in pita bread was especially delicious.* The greenery of the trees illuminated by the September sunlight after the long rain was very beautiful, creating a soothing atmosphere.* It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

From Hyakumanben to Yoshida Mountain, I went to a shrine, wondering why we had to climb the mountain. But as I followed my partner, I saw a splendid two-story wooden building at the mountaintop. It was called Moan, and it was quite impressive. The shop was on the second floor, with a spacious counter seat where you could enjoy a panoramic view of Kyoto city. We sat at a table in the back row, and the wind from multiple directions made the heat more bearable. The yuzu shaved ice was old-fashioned and crunchy, making you feel refreshed. In the distance, you could see Funayama and even farther away, Mt. Atago, creating a nice atmosphere.

I saw Moan several times in Kyoto special features in town magazines and gourmet magazines. It is located at the summit of Yoshida-yama. It's on the hanging wall side of the Hanaore Fault, right? I visited for the first time because I had plenty of time near Kyoto University headquarters. I took the route that is not the staircase route of the Kitayamado course of Yoshida-yama. Later I found out that the staircase route is steep, so it is not recommended, as mentioned in the access map. It took about 10 minutes on the paved mountain path. There were no people passing by. I only passed a person who seemed to be observing insects on the way. I arrived at Moan! I was seated without waiting just before it was full. Surprisingly, there were many women even though it was a mountain path! The mountain hut from the Taisho era is much more pleasant than it looks in photos. The wind coming through the window feels nice, but I sweated on the uphill, so I had shaved ice. It was delicious with yuzu syrup evenly distributed. It's not fluffy ice, but the traditional type. The sweat, the wind, and above all, the view are a treat. From the west-facing window, you can overlook the city of Kyoto. You can see Mt. Atago and Mt. Funaoka. It's kind of kind to have illustrations of the route. When I noticed it on the way back, haha, on the way back, I passed by a triangulation point towards Yasaka Shrine. The soil on the slope side is eroded and difficult to walk on (・_・; The girls who don't look strong, I wonder which route they are using... It seems like the Kaguraoka course from the east side. Oh, since the route is like a hike, insect repellent is essential. I got bitten by some mosquitoes. Shaved ice with yuzu syrup from Kochi - 800 yen

This is a popular cafe near the top of Yoshida Mountain. The building was built in the Taisho era and is currently designated as a registered tangible cultural property of Kyoto City. I visited around 3 pm on a weekday and was able to enter without waiting in line. I ordered the Bihada Cheesecake with Iced Tea (¥960). The cheesecake was not too sweet, with a refreshing acidity. It was dense and had a crumbly texture. The loquat seemed to be placed at the bottom. It was delicious! The location is amazing, perfect for a break after a short hike up Yoshida Mountain. Thank you for the meal!

For lunch today, I went to Cafe Moan near Kyoto University on Yoshida Mountain. Although I was supposed to have a view of Mt. Daimonji from inside the cafe, it was not visible today. I had the pita pan sandwich, which has different fillings that change regularly. Today's fillings were bamboo shoots, yam and teriyaki chicken, and the side dishes included broccoli and potato soup. It was delicious! #lunch #cafe #YoshidaMountain #CafeOnTheMountain #Moan #pitaPanSandwich

The bus stop at Kitashirakawa is not far from here, and you can quickly find yourself in the mountains. The area is well-maintained as it is home to Yoshida Shrine, making it easy to walk around. The paths split into three directions with signs to guide you. The moss-covered garden with a well creates a peaceful atmosphere. This is a place where you can enjoy music, drink coffee, and relax while looking outside. The lunch menu seems to only offer pita bread sandwiches or hot sandwiches. You can choose one or two fillings for the pita bread set with a small drink for an additional fee. I had the lotus root and yam pita bread with a turnip soup, which had a gentle and light flavor. The pickles with celery and sweet potatoes were delicious with a hint of rosemary. The dishes and utensils were cute. I arrived just before opening on the weekend and although there were a few customers, it never got too crowded. They had a variety of desserts, so I want to go back before the weather gets too warm.

Located a 20-minute walk from Demachiyanagi Station on the Keihan Line, our shop has a parking lot. Nestled in the narrow spaces typical of Kyoto, there are stone steps and small paths to climb. It's more like a leisurely stroll. The mix of the cityscape and the natural beauty of the mountains in this area gives a sense of peace to the heart. It feels good. After about a 15-minute walk, our shop comes into view near the summit of Yoshida mountain. It's a two-story old wooden building. There's a crowd in front of the shop. The first floor serves as a waiting room, and everyone is patiently waiting while walking around the shop. After about a 20-minute wait, we were guided to the second-floor cafe. The atmosphere exudes the warmth of wood. Through the large open windows, you can see the cityscape of Kyoto through the gaps in the trees. It's always a pleasure to come here. We were seated at the table in the middle. The counter seat by the window is preferred, but it was not available today. We ordered the chocolate cake with fig for 960 yen including tax, and added ice cream for 200 yen including tax. I asked for a cafe au lait. The cake is a generous size with a rich chocolate flavor. The cafe au lait is creamy and delicious as well. But most importantly, it's nice to spend time here in a relaxed atmosphere that never changes. The master also provides a gentle and friendly service. I will definitely visit again. Here is a photo of the cappuccino that my wife ordered for reference.

On Friday at 12:30, I went to "Mouan" in MotoTanaka. It is located at the summit of Yoshida Mountain, where Yoshida Shrine is located. The restaurant was full, so I wrote my name and waited in the waiting area. There were old documents and materials displayed here. After 15 minutes, my name was called and I entered the restaurant. I ordered an iced tea. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, with trees on the southeast side and the city of Kyoto spread out below on the northwest side. You can even see Mt. Daimonji, famous for its Gozan no Okuribi fire festival. The building dates back to the Taisho era and was registered as a "Registered Tangible Cultural Property" by Kyoto City on August 17, 2004. It has a vintage feel but also a modern atmosphere. The iced tea was ordinary, but the real charm of this place lies in the building and the view. It's a bit of a hike to get here due to the steep slope, but the sense of accomplishment upon arrival is worth it. It's surprising to see so many people come here seeking this unique space. Thank you for the meal.
