Ginza Shirayuki Ginza / Shimbashi - Two-tiered Unagi Rice Bowl for ¥4,500 - Liver Sucking for an additional ¥200
On this day, I went to "Ginza Shirayuki" in Ginza to enjoy the exquisite unagi rice bowl from Mikawa Isshiki. The restaurant was opened by the chef who trained at "Unatei" in Ikebukuro from the age of 20 and later established "Shirayuki" in Hatchobori in 2011. After becoming a popular eel restaurant in Hatchobori, they opened a new branch in Ginza in October 2022. The restaurant has a hidden, cozy atmosphere located in the basement of a building on Hanatsubaki Street, the same building as the recently posted Tempura Abe Hacchobori branch.
For lunch, they offer options like Unagi Tamadon for ¥1,200, Unagi Rice Bowl (Pine) for ¥2,750, and Unagi Rice Bowl (Special) for ¥3,300. For dinner, they have courses starting from ¥5,500 and an omakase course with all-you-can-drink option for ¥10,000, offering the Mikawa Isshiki eel at very reasonable prices.
On a Thursday, I arrived at the opening time of 11:30. Despite its location in Ginza, I was drawn to the excellent cost performance of the two-tiered unagi rice bowl. After ordering, I enjoyed a delicious and gentle oden broth with daikon while waiting. In about 15 minutes, the unagi rice bowl arrived. When I opened the deep lid of the box, the eel almost covered the rice completely. The eel had just the right amount of fat, a perfect grill that brought out a fragrant and tender taste. The eel soaked in the not-too-sweet and refreshing sauce, combined with the rice, was incredibly delicious. The rice is free to be refilled, although the normal portion already offers a good amount of volume.
The grilled eel fin, rich in fat, was also irresistibly delicious, making me crave for a beer. Next time, I plan to enjoy the unagi rice bowl and grilled eel fin with beer from noon onwards. I believe that the Aichi Prefecture-produced Unagi Rice Bowl Special for ¥3,800, which offers this level of volume and deliciousness without waiting in Tokyo, is unbelievable. I heard that the prices changed from June 1, so there might have been a slight increase. However, I will continue to visit without hesitation.
