The restaurant is located a 2-minute walk from exit 3 of Inaricho Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, about 20 meters from Asakusa Street. It is marked by a large sign with yellow background and red letters that say "油" (oil). The interior of the restaurant has only a counter with 10 seats, no ticket machine, and orders and payments are made through customer service. The menu includes oil soba, spicy oil soba, and other rice dishes. Noodles come in regular 150g, large 225g, and extra-large 300g sizes at no additional cost.
- Oil Soba (March 27, 2023)
Mix the noodles with the sauce that has sunk to the bottom. The noodles are slightly curly thick noodles with a chewy and elastic texture. The sauce has a rich soy sauce flavor with a slightly strong taste of animal-based umami. The toppings include chashu, menma, negi, and naruto. The chashu is cut into easy-to-eat strips.
- Free Toppings (March 27, 2023)
Toppings include minced onions, garlic, special chili pepper, and vinegar. The minced onions add a refreshing spiciness and a crunchy texture. The garlic is also minced. The special chili pepper has a strong spiciness with chili peppers settled at the bottom of the jar. To finish, there is a warm split soup in a pot with a ginger-flavored chicken broth that allows you to finish all the soy sauce sauce. Thank you for the meal.

I visited "Abura Ramen" in Ueno, Tokyo around 5 pm on a certain day in December 2022. The shop specializes in oil-based ramen and is located just a minute's walk from Inari-cho Station. The small shop had only one other customer when I arrived. The owner, who seemed to be the only staff, was managing the operation. I ordered the special size "Abura Ramen" for ¥730, which comes with extra noodles for free. After a short wait, the simple oil-based ramen with chashu, menma, naruto, and chopped green onions was served. I mixed the noodles, toppings, and sauce before eating. The ramen had a good soy sauce flavor without being too heavy. Adding garlic, special spicy seasoning, and plenty of chopped onions enhanced the taste. I wished they had mayonnaise available, as it would have made the dish even better. I also enjoyed adding vinegar halfway through to add a touch of acidity. The portion size was satisfying even with the special size, and the broth served at the end was a nice way to finish the meal. Overall, "Abura Ramen" is a good choice for those looking for a simple and tasty oil-based ramen option.

[Shop Name] Abura soba specialty shop AburaRaku-cho Tokyo Ueno branch
[Nearest Station] Inari-cho Station, 3 minutes walk
[Lunch Budget] 680 yen - 850 yen
Visited in May 2022
[About the Shop]
During lunchtime near Inari-cho Station, I noticed a new abura soba specialty shop that seemed to have replaced an Indian curry restaurant. I decided to visit and upon entering, I was directed to place my order and pay at the counter at the back of the shop. The interior only had counter seats facing the wall. Water was self-service, so I poured myself a glass at the counter before taking my seat. The customers were mostly working men, with a few women also present.
[About the Food]
★ Abura soba 680 yen
The dish was served within a few minutes. Instructions on how to eat abura soba were displayed in the shop, so I followed them. I mixed the noodles well and tried them as they were. The noodles had a firm texture, which some may find "hard." Adding the finely chopped onions, I found them to be to my liking. You can adjust the amount of garlic, vinegar, and ichimi togarashi according to your preference as they significantly alter the taste. After finishing the noodles, adding the soup provided a delicious finish. You can choose the noodle portion size from regular, large, and extra-large without a price change. I opted for the large portion. It's rare to find a place where you can have a meal for under 700 yen, so I was grateful. The staff at the shop were very friendly. Thank you for the meal.

This is a ramen shop specializing in oil noodles located just a short walk from Inari-cho Station! I visited for lunch and tried THE Oil Noodles, which you can season to your liking with table condiments. The noodles were thick and chewy with a strong wheat flavor. The seasoning was a classic soy sauce base that is easy for anyone to enjoy. They offer free extra-large and special servings, so it's very cost-effective! If you're in Inari-cho, be sure to check it out!

The orthodox oil soba with added onion as an accent is delicious. I added plenty of special seasoning which was tasty. The menu mentioned finishing with chicken soup poured from a pot, which was hot and delicious. I wanted to try drinking the soup separately with leeks and garlic in a different container. It's priced at 500 yen for regular and 680 yen for large, but it's a limited time offer so visit soon.

Tsukemen (dipping noodles) 680 yen
Spicy Tsukemen 730 yen
This Tsukemen specialty shop is located a short walk from Ueno. There are two types of Tsukemen on the menu, but I highly recommend the "Spicy Tsukemen." It has a hint of sansho pepper that is not too sharp, and the spicy oil is just right, making it easy to eat. I was able to taste a unique Tsukemen that I had never experienced before. The raw onions on the table are all-you-can-eat. The raw onions are spicy and leave a lingering flavor in your mouth after eating, but here, they stand out for their sweetness and enjoyable texture as a topping. I couldn't help but add more onions than usual. And the finishing soup was amazing. You can taste the aroma of ginger when you take a sip. I wanted to savor this soup slowly... It was very gentle and delicious, leaving a lingering feeling of happiness. There were several posters related to Tsukemen on the wall across from the table, giving a sense of a Tsukemen community, which was nice. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was also good, with a sense of cleanliness. I strongly felt like I wanted to visit this place again.

I visited the restaurant on a late Sunday afternoon around 2 pm. It's great that they are open on Sundays when many other places are closed. There is no ticket machine, so you order at the counter when you enter, and you have to pay in advance. I ordered the Spicy Miso Oil Ramen (large) for 730 yen, with an extra serving of rice for 150 yen. I opted for the large size since the price was the same. The owner, who seemed to be running the place alone, was very friendly and efficient. He spoke fluent Japanese, but I had a feeling he might be from China. On the table, there were garlic, special chili oil, vinegar, and chopped onions that you can add as much as you like. The food arrived in about 5 minutes after ordering. Following the instructions on the table, I mixed the sauce at the bottom of the bowl thoroughly. Then, I added some vinegar based on my intuition. The taste was good but not particularly outstanding. It was spicy but not too much, and the special chili oil on the table added a nice kick. The onions provided a good spicy flavor. They were finely chopped, so I wish they were a bit bigger for a more crunchy texture. The extra rice for 150 yen seemed a bit small, but it was okay. Mixing it with the soup made it like a porridge, which was a unique touch. However, I felt like it needed a bit more flavor. Overall, it was satisfying but not exceptional. When I crave for oil ramen nearby, I would come back here.

I happened to visit when it was not crowded. Before eating, there was an explanation to mix well, as there was a rich soup at the bottom, starting from mixing. There were also various ways to eat explained at the table. It seems good for the body too. It was simply delicious.

On a regular weekday around 2:00 PM, I was able to get a table right away at this restaurant. The owner seems to be Chinese, but the atmosphere is very Japanese. The service was very friendly and the interior was clean. There was no continental feel to it. You pay before ordering. I had the Char Siu Oil Ramen for 980 yen, with extra seasoned bamboo shoots for 100 yen and extra green onions for 100 yen. You can get free extra noodles (large or special size) and unlimited chopped green onions. The oil ramen was relatively cheap for its quality. The noodles were thick and the bamboo shoots were diced. I poured plenty of vinegar, mixed it well, and enjoyed it. The appearance and taste were similar to the Tokyo Oil Group main store. The unlimited chopped green onions were also similar. It was extremely delicious and very satisfying.

At Inari-cho, Aburakucho, a specialty shop for Abura Soba called "Zenbu Mori Abura Soba" opened in August 2021. The shop has only 10 counter seats, operated solely by the owner without a ticket machine, using a pre-payment system. The menu consists of two types of Abura Soba - regular and spicy, with 9 topping options available. Customers can choose the noodle portion up to extra-large for free, and mega size for an additional 200 yen. For my first visit, I ordered the regular size with all toppings. The noodles were medium-thick straight noodles, topped with naruto, chashu, seasoned egg, green onions, seasoned bamboo shoots, chopped seaweed, and corn, offering a substantial amount of toppings. Mixing the toppings and noodles well, I enjoyed the diverse flavors. The chopped onions served as a nice accent, and the special seasoning had a strong and authentic taste. I look forward to trying the spicy Abura Soba next time. By the way, the shop's name apparently means "Oil Pleasure Town".

The ability to change the size of the ramen to extra large for free is great! The price is also reasonable, starting from around 700 yen. I'm very happy that I can add toppings like onions and garlic.

I had oil soba. I chose the extra large size since it was the same price as regular and large. It was a standard oil soba but had a refreshing taste and was very delicious without being too heavy. The chicken broth in the finishing soup was also very satisfying. Thank you for the meal.
