About a decade ago, when I used to work around this area, I often visited or took out lunch from Chicken Packer. Coming back to this area after a long time and looking for a lunch spot, I noticed that many of the places I used to frequent for lunch like Cafe Haiti, Tori Shogun, Ooyuki-an, Tonkatsu Club (500 yen donburi lunch), Colombo Curry 2nd store, Sublead, and the Japanese restaurant in the back of Hokunoville basement (can't remember the name) are now gone. It's a pity... Thank you for all the good times I had there. Amidst this, I found comfort in the fact that this place is still lively and operating. Having a strong takeout option that is less affected by the pandemic is a big advantage. I also want to show respect to other popular places that are still going strong like Torihisa, Steak Gannen, Shoyuya, Ryuryu, etc. It's great to see places like Onigiri Sengokuya and Zareba Standing Soba "Ryogoku" still around too! In the past, I used to often choose between various hamburgers and fried chicken, or the Chicken Don with a crispy texture for 620 yen. When I didn't have much of an appetite, the Mini Torikara Don for 360 yen was very handy. While the hamburger sets may seem like the main attraction at first glance, the real star for me is definitely the fried chicken. The crispy skin, juicy and tender meat from Satsuma chickens, and perfect seasoning are just amazing. And if you have a cold beer with it, there's nothing better! This time, instead of the usual choices, I opted for the Vegetable Fried Chicken Plate for 800 yen, considering my health and the passage of time. You can also add soup for an additional 340 yen, but I decided to skip it this time. I remember choosing the cold potato soup during the summer months. After paying, receiving the number tag, I headed to the second-floor dining area. There were two groups of customers ahead of me, but the seating area was relatively empty compared to the queue at the register. It seems like takeout is more popular. I settled in a seat overlooking the entire room by the stairs and waited for about 10 minutes before the plate arrived. I was excited to see the three pieces of my favorite fried chicken, and I started with the cabbage with Caesar dressing. The fried chicken, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, was delicious even without any sauce. The seasoning was just right! The rice was a bit firm, which I liked. The potato salad, carrot, and bean sprout namul were also a nice touch. I enjoyed the second piece of fried chicken with the oil-drizzled chicken sauce. It was so delicious, especially with the rice! I finished the third piece with the sauce as well. The rice was gone in no time! Despite being a light eater, I had no problem finishing the generous portion of rice. The taste and quality for 800 yen was definitely worth it. I will definitely come back for more! As expected from the beloved Chicken Packer, it was delicious as always. I was completely satisfied. Thank you for the meal! Next time, I'll take out the Charcoal-Grilled Chicken for 980 yen and enjoy it with a beer at home. I'll definitely be back soon for another visit!
