In Shibuya, there is a plum wine izakaya called "Ayame" where you can enjoy a fusion of yakitori, creative Japanese cuisine, and plum wine. When you enter the restaurant, you will see a wall lined with plum wine bottles, over 100 varieties in total. It's quite a sight! I was impressed by the wide range and dedication to plum wine. We started with a toast of draft beer, followed by a seaweed and octopus vinegar appetizer, and a flavorful potato salad with a large seasoned egg on top. For sashimi, we had a platter of maguro, madai, kanpachi, katsuo, and salmon, all fresh from Tsukiji. The maguro was rich and thick, while the salmon was tender and delicious. We then switched to plum wine, trying a recommended Japanese sake that paired well with the sashimi. We also ordered yakitori, including juicy pork belly and cartilage meatballs, as well as a large prawn with mayo. The dishes were homemade and flavorful. We continued to enjoy different plum wines, such as the Tsuruume with peach pulp, and paired them with autumn flavors like ginkgo nuts and shiitake tempura. The meal ended with a yakitori rice bowl topped with egg yolk, which was filling and satisfying. The staff was friendly, and the variety of plum wines, ranging from shochu-based to spicy blends, was impressive. With over 100 options and a rotating selection due to the all-you-can-drink option, the freshness of the plum wines was guaranteed. Overall, it was a night of enjoying plum wine and autumn flavors in Shibuya.
