I had always been curious about this Mookata restaurant. The cute neon sign welcomed me as I entered. The cozy space could fit around 10 people, giving off a nostalgic vibe of a Thai local food stall. The course came with all-you-can-eat meat and vegetables. The Manao and Nampla sauces were delicious, making me want to eat more. The garlic flavor was strong. I left feeling satisfied and wanting to come back again with an empty stomach.

MOOKATA Yushima branch, a yakiniku restaurant where you can quietly enjoy high-quality meat courses while jazz music plays in the background. I was happy to find such a yakiniku restaurant. Lately, I've been feeling a bit out of place because most yakiniku places are like that. They're delicious but not really fun. That's when I remembered the margarine yakiniku I had in Hanoi, which was so much fun. Yakiniku where you can eat, laugh out loud, and laugh until your stomach hurts. It brought back the fun I had when I was young. Eating on the street, laughing out loud, smoking cigarettes, feeling a bit like a junkie, and enjoying delicious food. I was looking for yakiniku like that and came across the Thai-style mookata hot pot. I can't wait to go to Thailand. I used to dream of chasing birds in the morning and having mookata hot pot every evening. But due to the impact of COVID-19, I can't go to Thailand easily. Just when I thought that, the Thai mookata hot pot came to me instead. The atmosphere in the restaurant is almost like being on the street. You can hear only Thai language from the tables around you. The ingredients are nothing special that you can buy at any supermarket. But it becomes incredibly delicious in the mookata hot pot. Why? The mookata hot pot is a hybrid pot where you grill meat in the center and have shabu-shabu around it. When you grill the meat in the middle, it sticks together and burns. Then it flows into the shabu-shabu zone, creating a perfect Maillard reaction. Moreover, you can put shrimp heads and fish cakes in the soup, and the flavorful soup is irresistible. The joy of all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink, the fun of making ordinary ingredients taste delicious, the joy of feeling different Thai flavors by changing the sauce, the joy of laughing out loud, the joy of not having to worry about making a mess on the table. When you leave the restaurant, you'll find Ameyoko nearby. It's a paradise where you can enjoy drinking and smoking on the street in this pleasant season. Chinese food is cheap there. And after enjoying a large order, you can also take some Chinese food home in packs. I talked to the owner of MOOKATA, and he said they are considering opening in other places like Sangenjaya. The mookata hot pot is going to be even more exciting.

The cost performance of 99 minutes for 1999 yen all-you-can-eat is excellent. 80% of the customers are Thai, which is a testament to its authenticity! At the entrance of the restaurant, ingredients are lined up for customers to choose from and grill themselves. The variety of ingredients is abundant, including pork, liver, squid, shrimp, vegetables, and more. There are three types of sauces available: one for meat, one for seafood, and one mild sauce for those who don't like spicy food. I remembered my friend who has been to Thailand many times saying, "The mookata hot pot you eat locally is delicious," so I decided to look for it. Although there is one in Tamachi, Ueno is more accessible, so I found the restaurant's account on Instagram and made a reservation via DM. It is located in a back alley near Yushima Station and Ueno-Hirokoji Station, behind the famous curry restaurant "Delhi Ueno". It is a renovated snack bar, with exposed pipes and a raw concrete design. The chairs are colorful plastic. When I entered, there were a variety of all-you-can-eat ingredients lined up. The table had a pot set on it. It looks like a dome, with a donut-shaped disc for pouring soup. It is a hot pot where you can enjoy yakiniku and shabu-shabu at the same time. ★All-you-can-eat 99 minutes 1,999 yen. You can also add all-you-can-drink for 1,999 yen, but my friend doesn't drink so we opted for the food only. The staff pours the soup for you, and you choose the ingredients yourself. There was no pork, liver, chicken, or beef, but there were vegetables such as cabbage, bean sprouts, carrots, shrimp, squid, glass noodles, and imitation crab meat. There are two types of sauces, one red like Tom Yum Kung paste and the other green with lots of chili peppers, both very spicy. It might be good to gradually dilute them by adding more soup. It's nice to alternate between the two. The seasoning is very Thai-like. Finally, when you drink the soup with plenty of soup added, it's delicious! ★Bangkok Highball 1,299 yen. A bucket full of highball with a mountain of coriander. The alcohol was light, but if you drink it alone, you'll be quite full. The chairs in the restaurant were a bit wobbly, so I couldn't stay long, but about 80% of the customers were Thai. Even the locals can enjoy mookata hot pot! It was delicious, and I would like to come back again. Payment can be made with cash or card. The first floor of the restaurant had poor reception, but there was free Wi-Fi available. Convenient!

The Southeast Asian vibe was great! I was a bit concerned about the hygiene, but overall it had a good authentic feel.

An eatery where mostly locals can be found. The sauce and atmosphere are of local quality.

A revisit. If you love Thai food, this place is a sure bet. Can't go wrong.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is completely Thai. The taste is exactly the same. It really feels like eating in Bangkok and it's amazing.

Visited with my Thai wife and half-Thai son ☺️ Stepping into the shop, it felt like being in Thailand amidst the pandemic. Little Thailand Yushima offers authentic Thai hot pot, perfect for those who can't travel to Thailand. The flavors were so good that even my Thai wife approved. The owner and staff were friendly, making the experience enjoyable. My wife was amazed by a painting on the wall, which seemed to be from an old Thai movie. She took many photos. Will definitely visit again! ✨
