I had soy sauce ramen. It was my first meal during my stay in Kyoto. It was elegant, flavorful, and delicious. The seasoned egg was perfectly soft and delicious. The interior of the restaurant was modern and clean, providing a calm atmosphere to enjoy the meal.

When it comes to finishing off in Kawaramachi, it has to be ramen! Among the many Kyoto-style pork broth shops, if you want to try a pure soy sauce ramen, then I think Ichiryu Manbai is the best choice. I had their soy sauce ramen with a strong chicken broth, and it was amazing. The soup was outstanding, and the noodles had a great texture. If you like thin noodles, you should definitely check it out!

On a regular afternoon, I wanted to eat something quick but there were few restaurants open and the ones on Kawaramachi Street were crowded with young people. I decided to go to this ramen shop next to the curry shop Gregory, where I had been a year ago and was impressed by the salt ramen. This time, I wanted something more flavorful so I ordered the tsukemen with extra noodles, 375g for 1050 yen. It was after 3 pm when I visited but the restaurant was almost full. I bought my meal ticket and waited for a while to be seated. Eventually, one of the staff members, who might have been both the one seating customers and cooking, guided me to the counter. I received the dipping noodles and was told to dip the noodles in the soup with konbu seaweed. However, the soup was very hot, almost burning. The toppings included two types of chashu pork, sliced chashu, green onions, and bamboo shoots. The bamboo shoots were moist and might be a hit or miss for some people. The chashu pork, which had impressed me when I had it with ramen before, didn't seem to go as well with the dipping noodles. I quickly finished the meal. It was tasty but didn't leave as much of an impression as the ramen did. It was good, but not significantly different from chain restaurant tsukemen. The soy sauce dipping noodles were unique, but if I were to compare, I would say it's closer to the mountain yam noodles from Menya Jiro. It felt like the purpose of the extra noodles was to make it a filling meal rather than focusing on the deliciousness. I didn't try the soup refill option. Reheating the soup is available, but you have to ask the staff for it. There was also an atmosphere that made it difficult to talk to the staff.

Recommended special soy sauce ramen with all toppings at a ramen shop near the hotel for 1100 yen. The straight noodles had a nice firm texture, and the rare chashu was delicious. The broth was a clear but rich soy sauce flavor that was a bit oily. The whole boiled egg was a nice touch, although I personally prefer it sliced in half for easier eating. The extra-long bamboo shoots were also tasty. Thank you for the meal!

Menya Ichiryumanbai Special La Men
After a week of not having ramen, I tried the clear chicken soup ramen at this place, which exudes a refined Japanese taste. The straight noodles made with whole wheat flour have a great chewy texture and are very satisfying to eat. Not only the rare pork chashu, but also the chicken breast chashu are incredibly delicious. Adding the spice of Sichuan pepper enhances the elegance and I couldn't help but finish it all in one go due to its deliciousness.

Tsukemen with seasoned egg, regular size (275g) for 1050 yen. The noodles are flat and slightly thick, with a smooth and chewy texture and a nice wheat flavor. The dipping sauce is a blend of soy sauce with chicken and duck broth, incredibly delicious! It's refreshing yet rich with the flavors of chicken fat and duck. The soy sauce is not overpowering, allowing the other flavors to shine through. The toppings of egg and chashu are also delicious. I ordered the mixed noodles for my companion, which allows for flavor variations like adding truffle egg yolk for a creamy taste or lemon for a refreshing twist. I highly recommend the soy sauce-based tsukemen!

I found this restaurant while looking for a place to eat in Pontocho. I had been curious about it for a while but never had the chance to go until now. I ordered the recommended "mixed noodles". First, I tried it as it was, then I added a truffle-infused egg yolk for a different flavor, and finally squeezed some lemon for a refreshing taste. It was a wonderful restaurant where I could enjoy three different tastes in one meal.

At 11:00 PM, I wanted to have a closing ramen at a stylish ramen shop in Sanjo. So I visited "Ichiraku Manbai," which serves soy sauce ramen. The soup had a gentle and rich flavor of duck in a soy sauce base, and the whole wheat noodles had a great texture. It was a luxurious and wonderful bowl to end the meal with!

I finished my errands in Kyoto at 17:20 and stopped by "Menya Ichiryu Manbai" in Kawaramachi before heading back to Osaka. In addition to the Kawaramachi branch, there is also a Teramachi branch. I ordered the "maze-soba" (880 yen). They offer self-service cold hojicha tea. On the condiment tray, there were "Chidori vinegar," Sichuan pepper, and black pepper. The "maze-soba" had toppings like half-moon bamboo shoots, chashu, arare (rice crackers), white negi (green onions), and mitsuba (Japanese parsley). They also served a ramekin of lemon and truffle-infused marinated egg yolk for flavor enhancement. I mixed everything thoroughly and enjoyed the dish. The sauce was rich, and it paired well with the hot, flat thick noodles. I added Sichuan pepper and black pepper halfway through, and then mixed in the truffle-infused marinated egg yolk to create a creamy texture. The truffle oil was subtly used. In addition to the "maze-soba," they also offered "ramen (soy sauce)," "salt ramen," and "tsukemen (soy sauce)."

I didn't have a reservation and decided to look for a ramen shop nearby after finishing my drink. I found this place which was open even late at night and had good reviews. I was able to get in without waiting. I ordered tsukemen with soy sauce-based soup. It was light, which was good considering I had just finished drinking. However, for someone who prefers rich and thick tsukemen, it may have been a bit lacking. Overall, it was just right for a post-drinking meal.

One of my favorite places for light ramen. The broth is flavorful and you can drink it up. The soft-boiled seasoned egg is creamy, and the pork slices have a nice meaty texture. The thin noodles made from whole wheat flour are delicious on their own.

Located about a 3-minute walk from Kyoto Sanjo Station. I tried the mazesoba (mixed noodles) here. First, I ate it as it is, then I topped it with a truffle-scented marinated egg yolk to eat it like a kama-tama (egg on rice), and finally squeezed lemon over it to enjoy it in three different ways. There were also vinegar, sansho pepper, and black pepper on the table, so you can enjoy various flavors. It was a ramen where you can enjoy different tastes at once.
The interior of the restaurant has a stylish cafe-like atmosphere, and there were even families with small children. Thank you for the meal.

After finishing work in Kawaramachi, I walked to Gion as my next destination. I remembered a friend who loves ramen mentioning a place called "Ichiryu Manbai" before, so I decided to visit. They had variations like soy sauce and salt, but I went with the recommended special soy sauce ramen. The balance was great overall, and adding Sichuan pepper and black pepper midway through provided a nice flavor variation. The soup was flavorful but not heavy, making it a healthy choice. I also appreciated that they provide paper aprons for both men and women.笑

After searching for ramen in this area past 1 am, I found a place that was open until 1 am. Miyoshi-san was quite crowded, so I decided to try this place for the first time tonight. I had the ramen. It had whole wheat straight noodles with the flavor of raw soy sauce. The bamboo shoots and trefoil were neatly arranged on top of the chashu, making it look very nice. When I tasted the soup, it was clear and had a good amount of chicken fat, making it delicious. For late-night ramen that you can eat at this time, it was excellent. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious.

It was a very lively and good shop. The taste was also very delicious. It may be a little strong, but it is light and the soup and noodles are very tasty. Since it is open late, it is a great place to stop by on the way back from drinking!

I ordered the Maze-soba for 750 yen, which was my second time trying it. I thought it would be light based on the appearance of the ramen, but it turned out to be surprisingly rich. By the time I finished eating, I was quite full. It ended up being a bit heavy on my stomach later, but it was really delicious while I was eating it!

Mixed soba for ¥880, beer for ¥600. I've had this combination two weeks in a row. Absolutely hooked. Thank you for the meal. #IchirakuManbai #KansaiGourmet #KyotoGourmet #SanjoGourmet #KansaiRamen #KyotoRamen #SanjoRamen #Ramen #WantToConnectWithPeopleWhoLikeRamen

Located in a side street just off Kawaramachi Street, this ramen shop is always bustling with customers, even late at night. On this particular day, there was no wait, so I decided to give it a try. They offer both soy sauce and salt ramen, but the soy sauce seemed to be the classic choice here. It had been a while since I last had soy sauce ramen at a ramen shop. While soy sauce and miso are considered classic ramen flavors, it seems like the trendy shops these days focus more on tonkotsu soy sauce or salt ramen (or maybe I just haven't been to enough places). Anyway, the soy sauce ramen here was rich in a good way, with a subtle chicken flavor that was quite enjoyable. The broth paired perfectly with the thin noodles, which slid down effortlessly. I couldn't help but order an extra serving (even though I'm on a diet, haha). The slight saltiness made it a great choice for a satisfying meal. I usually just go there casually to eat.

Ordering is done through food ticket style! The interior of the restaurant is clean and packed during lunchtime, though even when full, table seats are not available. There are about 11 counter seats available. Although the mixed noodles were highly recommended, I accidentally ordered the flavored egg ramen after purchasing the food ticket! I'll try the mixed noodles next time! So, I had the flavored egg ramen. It cost 1,000 yen. The thin noodles were flavorful yet refreshing, and the soup was delicious! It came with two types of chashu, one with a chewy texture and the other thinly sliced. The flavored egg was perfectly half-boiled. It was really delicious! I might try the mixed noodles next time. ⭐︎
