It's been a while since I last visited due to various reasons like the pandemic, childbirth, and childcare. The master, whom I really like, still has a tough look but is still the same old master. Due to the impact of the pandemic, it seems that they are having difficulty providing anything other than chicken breast sashimi. The menu has changed quite a bit as a result. So, since it had been a while, I decided to go with the chef's choice. The liver ponzu is still delicious as ever, I wanted to pack it in a big tupperware and take it home. The wasabi flavor hasn't changed since back then, so those who like it can surely enjoy it. The new addition, marinated heart, was a perfect palate cleanser with just the right flavor! And above all, the master's special highball is still better than any highball you can get at other bars. Just the taste of it brings back all the memories of the time I used to frequent this place. I couldn't help but order a second one. Of course, I will be back again. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this restaurant for the first time because it looked delicious on the food review website. If you have made a reservation online, it is faster to leave a message on the voicemail if you need to contact the restaurant. The namerou (miso-marinated fish) was delicious. However, the liver and sashimi that everyone was recommending were...

First visit. I was looking for a place to eat sashimi near Ueno and ended up at this restaurant. I wish I had known about it sooner. Upon entering, the slightly intimidating master asked for my preferences. "Can I leave it up to you?" I asked. The master then asked, "Are you hungry? You seem hungry!" and proceeded to serve me very fresh sashimi. That day, I had sand liver, chicken breast, liver, and heart, all served without any condiments at first. Then, I enjoyed them with wasabi and salt. Very very delicious. I paired it with recommended sake and enjoyed it. The subsequent dishes such as minced raw fish and liver paste were also very tasty. I had plenty of sake, shochu, and original sour drinks. The charm of the original sour is definitely felt. Thank you for the feast. I will visit again!

There is a yakitori restaurant located a short walk from Ueno Station. It's not far at all, just cross the pedestrian bridge from the station, go down the stairs, and it's quite close. My friend often goes to this restaurant, so I was taken there. They have counter seats and table seats. The restaurant originally started in Iriya and later relocated to its current location. It's amazing to think that they have been in business for 20 years in this day and age. The dishes were carefully prepared and delicious. It may not be a flashy restaurant, but I imagine it's the kind of place where nearby salarymen might go for a drink after work. It would be nice to have a restaurant like this nearby. I would like to visit again when I'm in the area. Thank you for the meal. Hayakawa Chicken Liquor Store Ranking: Yakitori | Ueno Station

I came here for the chicken skewers. The master was very friendly and all the food here was delicious. We ordered the chef's choice which included liver pon, assorted chicken skewers, two types of chicken namero, and five grilled items. I was very full because I hadn't eaten lunch. I will definitely come back here again.

I love this place. I'll say it upfront. The master looks tough and intimidating at first, but he is actually a very nice person. The food is always delicious no matter what you order! But I especially recommend the assorted chicken sashimi, liver ponzu, liver paste, and sometimes white liver. It's great for a relaxing solo drink or for a casual group hangout. This place is the best.

Levapon is incredibly delicious. I found the ultimate bird restaurant in Ueno. The tomato and cheese are surprisingly super delicious.

There were some fresh items which were rare. The restaurant was a bit small.

I entered the restaurant at 8:00 pm. I ordered a salad, liver paste, and yakitori. The tough-looking owner was grilling the yakitori. The food had a very gentle flavor, which was a stark contrast to the owner's appearance. I was charmed by the nostalgic atmosphere of the Ueno izakaya.

A short walk from Ueno Station towards Inaricho Station, you'll find a neighborhood with a traditional downtown atmosphere. This yakitori and sake restaurant has a calm underground setting, with no customers making it very quiet. The owner mentioned that they didn't have fresh chicken sashimi due to the holiday break, so they could only offer certain items. I decided to try the "Liver Ponzu," assorted grilled skewers, and a mix of chicken sashimi available that day. I also had two draft beers and half a cup of sake, totaling 4,000 yen. While not cheap, it wasn't overly expensive either. The portions were not very large, so it was more focused on drinking. As for the taste, I was initially worried about the freshness, but it turned out to be unfounded. The liver in the "Liver Ponzu" was firm and delicious, with the ponzu sauce balancing out any strong flavors. The grilled skewers were full of umami, especially the chicken tenderloin which was exceptionally tasty. The chicken sashimi, consisting of heart and breast meat, was also of high quality. Overall, the portions were small but the quality was excellent. I look forward to returning and enjoying a more leisurely dining experience next time.

I have a friend who knows a really delicious restaurant in Ueno, but it's a bit away from the bustling streets, which made me a bit anxious. With my friend as the guide, we walked towards the restaurant, and I couldn't help but worry if we would even find it, as Ueno's streets all look alike. However, as we turned a corner, we had a sudden encounter with the place. The friend I was with was full of praise for it, but I couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy as there were few reviews online.
Upon entering, we found that it was still early and there were only a few customers. My friend quickly ordered dishes like liver ponzu and assorted sashimi, along with various grilled items. The grilled items included familiar choices like chicken thigh and cartilage, but there was also a unique item called "hatsumoto," which is a part of the heart located at the top of the liver. We also tried grilled chicken liver, skin, and gizzard, along with a unique appetizer of seaweed from the Shikoku region.
The seaweed had a distinct flavor and aroma, and it was a delightful appetizer. The liver ponzu was also exceptional, with a perfect sear and no trace of any unpleasant smell. The sashimi platter was also delicious, especially the marinated sashimi. The friend particularly enjoyed the dipping sauce. It was all so delicious that I couldn't believe there were so few reviews about this amazing restaurant.
Unfortunately, we didn't have time to try the Thai curry, which my friend recommended for the next visit. The restaurant also had a special shochu made from sake lees, which my friend raved about. I regret not being able to fully enjoy the experience this time, but I will definitely be returning to savor the food and try the unique shochu.

The interior of the store is small but not too stylish or cluttered, creating a very comfortable atmosphere. The distance between the customers and the staff is just right. The chicken sashimi and liver ponzu are extremely delicious. I enjoyed them with Japanese sake, allowing me to leisurely savor both the food and the drink in this sophisticated adult-oriented restaurant. The dishes served are of high quality. Honestly, I don't think it's a place for young people to drink. The portion sizes are not huge, catering more towards middle-aged and older customers who appreciate quality over quantity. However, as someone in their late twenties, I also learned a lot about sake from the staff. I look forward to coming back for a date night, sitting at the counter and enjoying a relaxing drink. Although I feel like people might misunderstand if they knew a person in their twenties frequented this type of establishment. When I mentioned it was my first time there, the master recommended some dishes and drinks that suited my preferences, almost like a personalized course. It seemed like they were not very busy on Saturdays, almost like a private party. It was lucky for me. This is the first time in my life that I wanted to become a regular at a restaurant, so I wanted to share my experience with this review.

I passed by during lunchtime and noticed that they had started lunch service. I decided to give it a try and walked in. It was close to 1 pm, so some items were sold out. I ordered the cheapest option, the beef tripe stew bowl for 500 yen. Hmm... the presentation was not great. It looked more like a staff meal than a proper dish. Maybe it would be better to have the beef tripe stew served on a separate plate as part of a set meal instead of in a bowl. (Revisited in May 2021) I had been passing by multiple times during the day and was curious, but I finally went in this time. The exterior seemed a bit intimidating, but there was a sign indicating a service set for the 10th-anniversary celebration, and the prices were affordable, so I decided to enter without hesitation. Contrary to the exterior, the interior had a big counter and scattered tables, with slow jazz music playing. The master, an old man with a down-to-earth vibe, ran the place. I ordered a draft beer, three skewers, and half a liver dish for 1000 yen. You could choose between Ebisu or another draft beer for the drink. The draft beer was well-maintained and delicious. I'm not a fan of certain skewers, so I requested to exclude them, and they were cooked perfectly with the right amount of salt. The master mentioned that they adjust the saltiness based on the customers' drinking and eating pace. I also tried the highly praised liver, which was indeed delicious. As I got drunk, I chatted with the master and tried his original chu-hai (350 yen), which was refreshing and easy to drink. It seemed like a lighter version of a highball. According to the master, if you drink five of them, you'll get pretty drunk. If you want to drink cheaply and get drunk, this place is perfect for you. Although the master may seem intimidating at first, he is actually kind to women. If your senses match with the master's, you could become a regular at this place. I arrived late this time, so I couldn't order it, but the master recommended trying the liver and heart sashimi next time. I definitely want to try it on my next visit. (January 2021)
