Wow! Was there a cafeteria here? I didn't know there was a restaurant here. The road facing this shop is called Hinode Dori, also known as Shidan Dori, and I wasn't aware that there were eateries from Higashiodori to National Route 337. About 15 years ago, there was a delicious dodogiru restaurant run by someone from Oita across from this shop, but it suddenly closed down. When I checked the map and visited, it was a relatively large building, but half of it was a beauty salon. I parked my car in the front parking lot, and upon entering, I saw a spacious kitchen that looked almost like a catering shop, and it was well-maintained and clean. As there were two of us, we were recommended a tatami room, but I chose a table seat as I was wearing lace-up work boots as usual. The lady in charge of the hall explained the contents of the daily set meal and the fish for the fish set meal. I chose the katsudon set meal. This menu called katsudon is not something you see often, it's like separating the katsu bowl into rice and toppings. You could choose the size of the rice, and I chose large. My wife chose the beef sinew miso stew set meal with medium rice. During lunchtime, drinks were complimentary, and I requested hot coffee after the meal. The katsudon set meal that came out was soaked in broth. When I took a bite of the katsu, I exclaimed, "Oh, delicious!" It was incredibly tasty with a distinct salty flavor. When you eat this broth-soaked katsu on rice, the umami of the broth adds a different deliciousness compared to a katsudon. Since a wooden spoon was provided, I tried drinking the broth, which was quite salty. It wouldn't be possible to finish drinking this broth as a soup, but it would be necessary to enhance the taste of tonkatsu. The miso soup was not too salty, so I assume they intentionally adjusted the saltiness. There was also a side salad and potato salad, a small amount but it added a sense of service. I was expecting the beef sinew miso stew to be like the beef in oden, but it was a big chunk, like the beef in beef stew, which surprised me. My wife added soy sauce to the beef sinew midway, as it seemed lacking in saltiness. By adding soy sauce, the umami increased significantly, and she said, "I should have done this from the beginning," feeling satisfied. Although it's called miso stew, the miso flavor wasn't very noticeable, and adding soy sauce enhanced the overall taste. The hot coffee after the meal was brewed from a coffee machine, and although it was light, it was delicious. Watching the hard work of the owner couple, I felt like, "I wish I had a shop like this." Even observing their interactions with regular customers, they were casual and not at all unpleasant. By the way, there was a helmet and a motorcycle ornament at the entrance, so I asked if they ride a bike, and it turns out the husband does. Thank you for the meal.
