Shinjuku is bustling with tourists once again, and one popular spot is the "Godzilla Building." It's a common sight for us locals, but for first-time visitors, it's a moment of excitement to see Godzilla and snap a picture. I heard that there's a solo shabu-shabu restaurant on the first floor of the Godzilla Building, so I finally had the chance to visit. The place is called "Hitomishabu Shichidaime Matsugoro," and despite its traditional-sounding name, it has a trendy and bright cafe-like atmosphere. Just like customizing a burger, you fill out an order sheet with your choice of vegetable quantity, meat type and quantity, and choice of rice, noodles, or glass noodles. I ordered small vegetables, medium Okuyama chicken, small pork loin, and glass noodles. A personal shabu-shabu pot was placed on an IH heater in front of me, and the heating began. While waiting for it to boil, the vegetables, chicken, pork, ponzu sauce, sesame sauce, glass noodles, and noodle sauce were served on a tray. The glass noodles have their own sauce in a bowl, and you can adjust the flavor by adding broth to your liking. First, I cooked the vegetables thoroughly, which included unique options like red core radish, sweet potato, broccoli, bean sprouts, and pea sprouts. The vegetables were fresh and delicious, especially the red core radish and sweet potato. Next, I shabu-shabu'd the meat, which was thinly sliced and cooked quickly, making it a great option for a quick lunch. While the meat wasn't outstanding, it was tasty. The biggest surprise was the glass noodles. After adding about five cups of broth, I added the boiled glass noodles and slurped them up. They were delicious, especially with the flavorful soup. I even added some garlic chips for an extra kick. I couldn't resist getting a refill. After finishing the soup, I left satisfied and will definitely return for a refreshing lunch. Another satisfying meal at Hitomishabu Shichidaime Matsugoro!
