"Maruchika," the underground food market at Maru Building, reopened (or renewed?) on April 28, 2023. At a Kyoto confectionery shop inside, the display case for their signature dorayaki had a sign saying "out of stock." It turns out that they haven't received the red bean paste from a Kyoto supplier. Due to the heavy rain causing disruptions in Shinkansen services. I bought a Lemon Cheese and Chocolate dorayaki for ¥324 each. They were individually packaged in simple and stylish boxes, making them great as souvenirs. When you open the box, the red bean paste for the dorayaki is in a separate pack, so you can fill the pastry yourself when you're ready to eat. The pastry has a crispy and light texture. I look forward to trying the dorayaki with Kyoto red bean paste next time."

5. Ordered Items
- KOMU MONAKA (Cacao Nibs x Chocolate) for 324 yen
Purchased a product where the Monaka shell and sweet bean paste are separately packaged! The Monaka shell has cacao nibs kneaded in, giving a slight aroma but the texture is not much different from regular ones... (*´Д`) The chocolate bean paste is also a subtle product without any new flavors. They also sell "Dorayaki" made with gluten-free rice flour, which might have been a better choice. Thank you for the meal.

Located in the Marunouchi Building basement, this wagashi (Japanese sweets) shop has recently reopened inside "Maruchika" with a similar layout to a department store basement. They offer dorayaki and mochi, but their specialty is dorayaki. The size is not too big, perfect for two bites. The dough is just the right weight, and the red bean paste has a refined sweetness. They use carefully selected ingredients from Kyoto. It's recommended to purchase early as they were sold out by 2 p.m. when revisited a few days later.
