I was impressed by the beef cutlet at this restaurant that I had been wanting to visit for a while. When I arrived after 11:00, there were more than 20 people waiting in line. Finally, after about 40 minutes, I was able to enter. I grilled the beef cutlet to my liking, which still had a hint of redness, and enjoyed it with two types of sauce, salt, wasabi, soy sauce, and more. The meat was tender and refreshing, making the rice go down smoothly. Rice refills were free. Although the prices have gone up, the set also includes grated yam, cod roe, and dessert of bracken rice cake, so I am very satisfied. I will definitely go back to eat there again. ( ்▿்)

Gyukatsu Motomura Ueno Store Ueno Station / Gyukatsu
Being able to adjust the grilling level by yourself is a nice touch. However, the warabi mochi I ordered for dessert was too small, which brought down my rating. If it wasn't for the negative of the warabi mochi, I would give it 4 stars. #GyukatsuMotomuraUenoStore #UenoLunch #UenoGourmet #Gyukatsu

After finishing work around 5 PM, I had an early dinner in the Ameyoko area in Ueno. I stumbled upon a place called "Gyukatsu Motomura" on the second floor of a building in a back alley. I decided to try their gyukatsu for the first time, which was a bit of a trend a few years ago. I ordered the regular gyukatsu set, which came with cabbage, potato salad, gyukatsu topped with grated yam, barley rice, red miso soup, pickles, and wasabi sauce. The gyukatsu was served rare, fried and lightly grilled on a stone with sauce. It was tender, juicy, and delicious with the wasabi sauce. The rice topped with grated yam was also tasty. Although it was a bit pricey at around 1400 yen, I was satisfied with the meal. Thank you for the feast.

If I may speak without fear of misunderstanding, tonkatsu here might not be to your liking if you try it for the first time. The meat is tough and thin, despite being supposed to be injected with beef fat. The breading is soggy with oil. Even the sauce, which should enhance the flavor, is just too spicy. Given that Gion Ishiya's tonkatsu is considered the standard, I have to be harsh in my critique.

I visited "Gyukatsu Motomura Ueno" on a certain day in October 2021, around 11 o'clock. Located on the 2nd floor of a building about a 1-minute walk from Keisei Ueno Station, the restaurant had a small interior with 3 other customers already seated. I sat at the counter alone and ordered the "Gyukatsu 130g with Barley Rice and Tororo Set" for ¥1,400. It was served after a 5-minute wait, accompanied by cabbage, potato salad, wasabi, barley rice, miso soup, tororo, pickles, special mountain wasabi sauce, and soy sauce. The gyukatsu was cooked quite rare, so it was placed on a hot stone plate to cook further while eating. I first tried the lightly grilled gyukatsu with rock salt, enjoying the crispy exterior and juicy rare meat. Next, I tried it with wasabi soy sauce, which provided a refreshing kick. The best experience was with the special mountain wasabi sauce, which had a perfect balance of richness and freshness, complementing the oily gyukatsu well. The meal also included plenty of cabbage, allowing me to enjoy both meat and vegetables. The barley rice disappeared quickly with the tororo, prompting me to ask for a refill to savor with the remaining dishes. Overall, it was a satisfying gyukatsu set meal with just the right amount of food. It was my first time experiencing "Motomura," and I enjoyed the interactive aspect of cooking on the stone plate. Although the Ueno branch felt a bit cramped, I would like to visit a more spacious location to leisurely enjoy the meal next time.

Tonkatsu set meal for 1,300 yen. During lunchtime, just before a scorching hot day outside. The company instructed to eat lunch alone. The heat doesn't bother me, so I head out as usual to try a new restaurant. In the midst of the post-COVID situation, some of the places I had in mind were closed. Today, I decided to try the chain restaurant "Moto Mura". I entered at 11:47 am, with one customer ahead of me and one behind me. I couldn't find the lunch menu I saw outside when I looked at the menu. I asked the staff in a hurry, and they quickly understood and took my order. The food was served very quickly, arriving in about 2 minutes after ordering. The meal included sliced tonkatsu, barley rice, red miso soup, cabbage, potato salad, pickles, two types of sauce, and wasabi. The staff recommended to eat the tonkatsu with a slightly rare cut, but I love rare meat as it allows me to taste the true flavor of the meat, so I decided to eat it as is. The rare tonkatsu was tender, allowing me to taste the sweetness and umami of the meat itself. I enjoyed trying out different flavors with the two sauces, wasabi, and salt. I left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied. Enjoyed my meal! (^^) Visited on August 5, 2021, for lunch. Rating: 3.08

On this day, I went to "Gyukatsu Motomura Ueno" with a friend from my university days. I had always been curious about this restaurant every time I passed by, so I was very happy that my wish came true! The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of a building, with only counter seats available. On this day, I ordered the Gyukatsu (130g) with barley rice and grated yam set meal (¥1400). It was a bit cold because it was raining, but when they lit the fire on the stone plate in front of me, it became pleasantly warm. The food was served in about 10 minutes, which was very quick. The Gyukatsu was beautifully pink and looked delicious. The side dishes and dipping sauces included wasabi, soy sauce, and wasabi dressing. I personally liked the wasabi the most as it had a sharp flavor that enhanced the sweetness and taste of the meat. The meat was incredibly sweet, melted in my mouth, and the fat was not overpowering at all, making it very delicious. To be able to experience this level of deliciousness at this price is truly amazing! I would love to go back again. Thank you for the meal.

I entered a small alley from Ameyoko and found a mixed-use building. The interior of the restaurant was not very spacious, with only counter seats available. The beef cutlet is grilled on a small charcoal grill right in front of you. It is recommended to cook it thoroughly to make the meat tender and delicious. This beef cutlet is quite different from the one at Okada in Shinbashi.

I saw it on TV and thought "I want to eat there!" so I went. The seating was only at the counter, but I felt that the cost performance was good for the portion size. You can get one refill of either rice, miso soup, or cabbage, and I chose to refill with barley rice. I want to go again.

The beef cutlet seems to be getting smaller, but the taste is still great! The instructions say to cook both sides well, and they even provide special chopsticks. I also ordered the beef tongue cutlet, but it was a bit tough! It's a beef cutlet restaurant, so of course, the beef cutlet is the star! One piece is not enough, so many women order two pieces. The Ueno branch is relatively quiet, making it easy to walk in, which is great!

I ordered a set of beef cutlet and tongue cutlet. It came with barley rice and grated yam, which was a nice addition. The miso soup was red miso. The beef cutlet had a rare inside, allowing customers to cook it to their liking on the hot stone provided at each table. The cutlets were thinly sliced, making them seem small in size, but they were not too heavy when considering the total weight. The thin batter made them less oily and easier to finish eating healthily. There were various sauces available such as wasabi, soy sauce, and salt, so I didn't get tired of eating. The tongue cutlet was cut a bit too small, which seemed to mask the flavor of the tongue. It wasn't bad though.

I went to the exhibition of the three major ukiyo-e collections in Japan and had lunch at "Gyukatsu Motomura Ueno branch," a chain restaurant that aims to bring gyukatsu to Japanese food culture. I ordered the gyukatsu 100g & tan katsu mixed set meal (2,200 yen), which comes with cabbage, potato salad, 2 types of sauce, salt, grated yam, barley rice, and miso soup. When I tried to order the gyukatsu set meal (1,000 yen), my friend generously treated me. The gyukatsu here is medium rare and is seared on a hot stone. This was my third time trying their gyukatsu (previously at the Nihonbashi branch), but it was my first time trying the tan katsu. The tan katsu has a good thickness and chewiness. It complements the melt-in-your-mouth texture of the gyukatsu. You can also add tan katsu to other menu items for an additional 1,000 yen (or half portion for 500 yen). The Ueno branch only has a counter seating, but the staff were kind and attentive even though they were busy.

I went to a beef cutlet specialty shop that I had been curious about for the first time, so I asked my friend about everything haha. I ordered a set with beer and the classic 130g beef cutlet. The free rice refill was appealing! It was nice to have a hot iron plate in front of me to cook the beef cutlet to my liking. Since I had never tried other beef cutlets before, I gave this place this rating. It's a good place to casually drop in alone.

The nearest station is Ueno Station. I went to the restaurant from June 15th to 21st where the beef cutlet set meal for 1400 yen is discounted to 1000 yen. The restaurant is located on the second floor and has only counter seats in a small space. There is hand sanitizer at the entrance. The seating spacing is narrow and not adequately spaced out, so it can be crowded at times and require caution. I ordered the beef cutlet set meal (1400 yen discounted to 1000 yen). It came with grated yam, barley rice, and red miso soup. The system is to cook the beef cutlet, which is fried very rare, on a ceramic plate on the table according to your preference. The portion of meat was a bit small. I ate it with soy sauce and salt available on the table, and the taste was quite good. I tried putting the grated yam on the barley rice to make yam rice, but I still didn't feel completely satisfied even though I was full. It's a good deal because of the promotional price, but at the regular price, it may feel a bit expensive. A minor suggestion would be to bring the ceramic plate when serving the dish instead of leaving it on the table for hygiene purposes. The table's tea and dressing were empty. It might be better to pay more attention to the customer seating area.

Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) 130g with barley rice and mentaiko (spicy cod roe) set for 1,400 yen. It's always full on Sundays at 14:30. I was surprised by how quickly the food came out after ordering. It comes out almost rare, so you can cook the cutlet on the individual hot stone plate at the counter. Enjoy with wasabi soy sauce, original sauce with mountain wasabi, and rock salt as you like. I personally liked the wasabi soy sauce the best. I have been to other tonkatsu chains, but this one was overwhelmingly delicious!! I definitely want to come back!

The food was delicious, but there were a few things that bothered me. First, the breading on the cutlet was heavily seasoned, which made it difficult to enjoy the sauce. Also, during lunch, you can only increase the amount of cutlet by 130g increments (130g is too little and 260g is too much for some people). Additionally, the strange background music playing in the restaurant made it feel unsettling, like something out of a low-budget drama from the 70s or 80s. Other than that, it was alright. I ate too much with the 260g portion, so I won't be returning for a while. I would recommend it to meat lovers who are very hungry and happen to be nearby. However, even on a Sunday at 2:30 pm, there was still a long line.

This time, I went to Ueno to eat beef cutlet. The restaurant is located on the second floor, so you line up on the stairs. There were more foreigners than Japanese. I have been there three times, but I always wait about 30 minutes, probably because it was a weekday night. You choose your order from the menu while waiting on the stairs. Here is the menu. This time, I chose menu number 3. This is the "W Beef Cutlet 260g" set. Since it is made with beef fat, it was easy to eat and delicious. I think it's expensive at 2,200 yen for a beef cutlet with beef fat. The way to eat at this restaurant is to grill the fried beef cutlet on a hot plate. The meat was quite thin. I feel like I could eat multiple bowls of rice. I would like to go eat there again sometime.

It was 4:00 PM. I woke up before noon and walked from Ueno to Asakusa to Okachimachi, feeling very hungry. I decided to eat at a place I had been curious about for a while. When I looked at the menu, the prices started from 1400 yen with mentaiko, and the 1300 yen option I saw on the website was not listed. When I asked the staff to remove the mentaiko, they agreed easily, and my order came out in 1-2 minutes! Normally, I would be surprised, but I had read a similar experience on a food review website before, so I thought, "I see." The staff taught me how to eat it, and I enjoyed the rare cut sizzling on the grill. Personally, I prefer it more well-done. There were two types of sauces, soy sauce and a spicy wasabi sauce, both of which were delicious! I didn't really need the grated yam I ordered as an extra. They offered a free second serving of rice, so I had a half portion refill and left the restaurant feeling full! As I left, I saw a line forming on the stairs... Thank you for the meal!

I went to Gyukatsu Motomura near Ameyoko. I arrived around 2 o'clock and waited in line for about 20 minutes before being seated. I ordered the Gyukatsu with no additives and mentaiko barley rice. They brought out a solid fuel burner on a ceramic plate and I cooked the Gyukatsu to my liking. The dish arrived quickly and the Gyukatsu was perfectly rare, melting in my mouth. The rice was also delicious, and I couldn't resist getting seconds. It was really tasty!

While wandering around before meeting up with friends, I stumbled upon Motomura! I decided to go in and ordered the set with grated yam (1400 yen). Soon enough, the beef cutlet arrived! It was quite a generous portion, and when I took the first bite, it was delicious. The meat was cooked perfectly on the hot plate, and dipping it in wasabi soy sauce was the best way to enjoy it. The combination of hot meat and wasabi was amazing. The grated yam rice was also refreshing and tasty! When I come back to Ueno for beef cutlets, I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.
