Traditional dish from Shandong Province, China, "Yellow Stewed Chicken Rice". Chicken and potatoes stewed in a clay pot with a soy sauce-based broth.
Order:
- Yellow Stewed Chicken Rice (Clay Pot Chicken Stew Set Meal) 980 yen
Arrives simmering hot. The ginger soy sauce flavor is delicious. The meat is tender and the portion is generous. The taste is more like Japanese home cooking than Chinese cuisine. It's a dish that everyone can enjoy. Free rice refills are available, and there is pickled radish on the table.
Note:
It is a chain with 6000 locations worldwide originating from China. It's like the Japanese equivalent of beef bowl chains. You can choose the level of spiciness and for some reason, you can also choose whether you want bell peppers or not.

I ordered seafood porridge. It came piping hot and bubbling. It was made with cooked rice, so honestly, it wasn't really porridge. It was a bit unexpected, but still tasty. I wanted something light, but there was so much rice in it that I ended up feeling too full.

A Chinese restaurant opened in Okachimachi. It seems to be a Chinese chain with 6000 stores worldwide. I visited at night and the restaurant was about half full, with a fairly clean interior. Both the staff and customers seemed to be Chinese. I ordered the Sour Cabbage Pork Spare Rib Set for 1150 yen and the Clay Pot Chicken Stew Set for 880 yen, with an additional egg topping for 190 yen, using the ticket machine. You can choose the spiciness level and whether to add green peppers. I chose both options. Both dishes were served piping hot. The restaurant was set at a cool 22℃ to combat the heat. The Sour Cabbage Pork Spare Ribs had a distinct flavor of Chinese pickled cabbage, commonly found in the nearby area at restaurants like "Ryukobo Group". The flavor was reminiscent of what you would find at "Ryukobo Group's" restaurant "Roushuppo". The spiciness level was surprisingly high with added chili peppers, which was nice! There were plenty of chewy pieces like maroni. The spare ribs had a rough texture. The rice, on the other hand, was on the dry side and had that typical Chinese restaurant rice feel. The Clay Pot Chicken Stew, known as "Ondori Chicken Rice", had a somewhat Japanese flavor profile, similar to a soy sauce-based simmered dish. It had a light ginger flavor that resonated with Japanese cuisine. The chicken was well seasoned and didn't have any unpleasant smell. The other ingredients included potatoes, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms, making it almost like a Japanese simmered dish without the green peppers and chili peppers. However, the chili peppers added a significant level of spiciness, which was quite enjoyable when eaten on its own. The egg was perfectly cooked. There was yellow pickled radish on the table. The side soup had a unique flavor with seaweed and tofu. I really enjoyed the Sour Cabbage Pork Spare Ribs, and thought the Chicken Stew was pretty good too.

Today, I went to Yushima to see my friend's solo exhibition. He started painting with oil again at the age of 50, and his artwork was quite impressive. After the exhibition, my wife and I decided to go for a meal in the Ueno area. The temperature in Tokyo was 37℃ that day, so we aimed for a relatively new restaurant with strong air conditioning. It seemed like a Chinese chain restaurant. Surprisingly, there was a vending machine at the entrance where you had to place your order. It felt a bit troublesome, but my wife convinced me to give it a try. We walked up to the vending machine and ordered two glasses of draft beer and a snack. Eventually, we had to hand over the food tickets to the staff inside the restaurant, which made me think that ordering directly might have been faster. However, the beer was ice-cold and served in clean glasses, so it was delicious. The spicy fried chicken breast that came out was seasoned with cumin and went really well with the beer. I was satisfied as long as the food tasted good. I looked around for other menu options but couldn't find any vegetable stir-fry, which is common in Chinese cuisine. I realized there were no vegetables on the menu. I then noticed that I couldn't hear the sound of pans clanging in the kitchen, so they might only have induction cookers. Looking around, I saw that all the customers were young and Chinese-speaking natives, except for us who were speaking Japanese. It was a strange space. By the way, I couldn't read the name of the restaurant, so I later found out that it was pronounced "Youmeiu Honmen Jimeefan". Hmm, they might want to consider something easier to remember. It seems like this place mainly serves set meals. Interestingly, there were more Uber Eats delivery people than customers. It was a peculiar restaurant, but for us older couple, the portion sizes were just right, allowing us to try a variety of dishes. It's supposed to be Shandong cuisine, but even looking at the menu, the Japanese translations were not very helpful, making it a truly exotic experience.

Today, I visited a newly opened restaurant that I found during my lunch break a while ago. When I passed by the restaurant again, I noticed a sign offering a half-price discount on the set menu for a limited time of one week, so I decided to try it out on the last day of the promotion. We entered the restaurant at 11:45 am, with 3 people in our group. There were 4 customers already inside and 7 customers who came in after us. Unfortunately, both of the menu options I wanted to try were sold out, so I ended up ordering the clay pot lamb set meal. Although the restaurant wasn't too crowded, the service was a bit slow, and it took about 15 minutes for our order to be served. When the meal arrived, I noticed that the color seemed a bit dull. It turned out that I had accidentally ordered the opposite of my usual preferences, with the spiciness level set to normal and without any chili peppers or green peppers. As a result, the dish had a stronger sweetness than I preferred, which made it a bit disappointing. At first, I could taste the unique flavor of the lamb, but as I continued eating, it became less noticeable. In the end, I topped the rice with the lamb and finished the meal. I ordered the dish at half price today, but if it were at the regular price, I might not have ordered it... Overall, it was an okay meal.Visited for lunch on December 17, 2021. No rating given.

The Hainanese Chicken Rice is delicious as usual, but the accompanying soup is too strong in MSG flavor and unnecessary.
