We visited "Namaike," located on the 4th floor of a building just past ABAB, a 3-4 minute walk from Ueno Station towards Okachimachi. This izakaya offers a variety of Kyushu-style dishes such as yakitori, motsunabe, and horse meat. The seating is all private rooms, allowing you to enjoy your meal without worrying about others around you. The waitstaff, although mostly foreigners, try their best to communicate, which is admirable. The menu includes all-you-can-eat options, which are great for large group gatherings. We ordered a la carte this time, including dishes like stingray fin, tamagoyaki, assorted yakitori, assorted vegetable skewers, sakura yukke, scallop butter grilled, sashimi platter, shima hokke, motsunabe, and grilled ramen. The yakitori and vegetable skewers were pretty standard, while the yukke was delicious. Despite the hot weather, the motsunabe was enjoyable with a flavorful soy-based broth. We ended the meal with grilled ramen, which had a nice balance of saltiness. Even though we were quite full, we couldn't stop eating and finished everything quickly. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I visited the restaurant for the first time. It was crowded on that Saturday. I had made a same-day reservation. The seat I was assigned was not ideal, and the female waitress, who did not seem to be Japanese, was not very friendly. Even though it was busy, a condescending attitude is not acceptable. The yakitori dish was not up to par. Overall, the food was expensive.

When coming to Ueno, I think it's better to get off at Ueno-Hirokoji Station one stop before Ueno Station. It takes a bit of time and can be confusing to get to the surface from underground at Ueno Station. So, right after getting off at Ueno-Hirokoji Station, there's this place called "Namaike." I recently went to Namaike in Kawasaki, so I'd like to compare the two. It's been around since 2019, and compared to the Kawasaki branch, it feels more established. There are private rooms on both sides of the narrow aisle, with digging kotatsu seats and table seats. - Appetizer: Potato salad with 2 slices of smoked duck on top. The duck is very flavorful and juicy, the richness of duck is truly great. - Avocado and prosciutto salad: The avocado was large and there was a lot of it compared to the Kawasaki branch. However, it wasn't ripe and was hard, lacking in avocado flavor. The amount of prosciutto and lettuce is generous, making it a hearty dish. - Salmon sashimi: It was a bit watery because it was thawed, but salmon is always delicious no matter where you eat it. - Bang bang chicken: Quite tender and juicy, made with chicken thigh meat. It's as delicious as authentic Chinese restaurants. This dish seems to be the most delicious in this restaurant! However, it was a bit distracting that one of the private rooms was being used by Chinese staff who were chatting loudly. The service was polite. Thank you for the meal.

Having dinner in Ueno after a long time. The menu is extensive! It's rare to find a place where you can enjoy both meat dishes, sashimi, and hot pot. The must-have item is the "Assorted Vegetable Rolls" (7 pieces for 1309 yen). It includes rolls with leek, okra, enoki mushrooms, mushrooms, and quail eggs. The okra wrapped in meat was a first for me and it was satisfying and easy to eat. The highlight of the meat selection was the "Assorted Horse Sashimi" (2178 yen) which includes tongue, ribs, loin, and marbled cuts. You can also order additional cuts individually. The Caesar Salad (792 yen) was also delicious. I was torn between the "Black Pork Shabu Shabu Salad" and the "Seafood Salad" which both looked appetizing. For those who prefer a hearty meal without alcohol, they also offer options like "Roast Beef" and "Chicken Steak". The hot pot selection is also extensive with options like "Hakata Offal Hot Pot", "Pork Kimchi Hot Pot", and "Black Pork Shabu Shabu". With a wide variety of drinks available, it's sure to satisfy those who enjoy alcohol. The private rooms are convenient. I'm thinking of trying their course menu next time.

Today after work, I was in Ueno again. A senior who had confidently said he wouldn't catch COVID ended up getting infected and had to take time off, but he finally returned, so we decided to have a celebration for his recovery. Of course, the first drink had to be a draft beer to say "cheers" for his hard work. It was a really hot day, so the beer tasted extra good. He wanted something refreshing to eat, so we started with a daikon and baby sardine salad with shiso leaves. Then, we ordered the standard sashimi platter with octopus, squid, and shrimp. Suddenly, I was craving something buttery, so we got some scallops with butter. Scallops and butter soy sauce really go well together, don't you think? It's like scallops were born to meet butter (laughs). I even felt like trying raw scallops with butter soy sauce. The senior didn't have much of an appetite since he was still recovering, so we ordered some nutritious edamame. I had a highball with Jim Beam for the first time in a while, and it really has a unique taste. But once you get used to it, that unique taste becomes addictive, right? He surprisingly wanted something sweet, so we got some sesame dumplings. The nutty flavor of sesame, not-too-sweet red bean paste, and chewy texture were just perfect. Since he was still recovering, we kept the drinks light and called it a night. The staff had a handsome young man working that day.

After a long time, I went shopping in Ueno. After shopping, I decided to have a drink in a building near ABAB before heading home. First, we started with the usual Hoppy and Premium Malt for a toast. The appetizers were potato salad and smoked duck, a combination that I love. Since I like horse meat, I chose from the dark horse menu, opting for individual orders instead of a platter. I went for the marbled meat, which is a classic, and also ordered tongue and heart. I would have preferred sesame oil for the heart, but garlic soy sauce was still delicious. Feeling like having more horse meat, I ordered the Sakura Yukke. It had plenty of juicy onions, which were sweet and delicious, complementing the horse meat perfectly. One of the highlights was the Chanja, which was addictively good!! We enjoyed our drinks leisurely with dishes like smashed cucumbers and simmered offal. Ueno and Okachimachi areas are easily accessible from any station, making it convenient. The menu offers a variety of Kyushu dishes, including Kumamoto horse sashimi, Hakata teppanyaki gyoza, and vegetable skewers. We ordered the "Hakata Casual Course" with a 3-hour all-you-can-drink set for 3,850 yen. The course included Hakata-style seared mentaiko, daikon and jakko salad, assorted sashimi, Hakata-style skewered rolls, vegetable rolls, crispy juicy chicken steak, mentaiko and highland green Chinese fried rice, and dessert. On days when I finish work and head home, I often end up going out for drinks before heading back. Thanks to the convenient access from my workplace, I find myself visiting the Ueno area more often. There are plenty of shops located conveniently near the station, making it easy to go there. I love to have a Chita Highball when I'm out, especially if it's a Suntory brand. I always choose Suntory whiskey brands when they are available at a restaurant. In my opinion, a restaurant that offers Suntory whiskey brands is a good one. As usual, I started with a seafood salad to line my stomach. It was beautifully presented with squid, octopus, and ark shell scattered on a bed of greens. The dressing was a tangy Italian dressing, making it a refreshing starter. The vegetable rolls are a specialty here, so I ordered the assorted vegetable rolls, which included shishito peppers, eringi mushrooms, green onions, enoki mushrooms, and okra wrapped in pork and seasoned with salt. The salt seasoning made it light and enjoyable, and the combination of vegetables and meat made it quite filling. I particularly liked the eringi mushrooms and okra. I decided to try a Strawberry Sour, which is more like a juice than an alcoholic drink. For the main dish, I had sukiyaki hotpot, which was a healthy mix of meat, meatballs, green onions, enoki mushrooms, carrots, bean sprouts, and tofu in a sweet sauce. It was simmered to perfection, and dipping the ingredients in raw egg added an extra layer of flavor. It was a seasonal menu item, but if it's available, I highly recommend trying it. On this day, I celebrated H-san's 60th birthday in Ueno. Former colleagues were gathered and came to surprise us here! The restaurant offered a 5500 yen all-you-can-drink course with plenty of private rooms. Since we visited during the day, there weren't too many customers, creating a relaxed and lively atmosphere. Surrounded by senior colleagues, it was a celebratory occasion, so I refrained from taking too many photos. The course mainly consisted of Hakata cuisine, which was a delight for those from Hakata. On this day, we ordered the recommended course which included a 3-hour all-you-can-drink option, priced at 4,400 yen. The course included: - 2 types of Hakata appetizers - Caesar salad with prosciutto and avocado - Melt-in-your-mouth horse sashimi - Assorted sashimi from Kyushu - Kyushu's famous fried chicken - Grilled beef tongue - Hakata motsunabe (offal hot pot) - Choice of rice porridge, Chinese noodles, or udon for the finish - Today's dessert ■Impressions: We were drawn to this restaurant by the rare 3-hour all-you-can-drink offer in Tokyo. We enjoyed Kyushu ingredients and dishes, such as horse sashimi and motsunabe, while savoring our drinks. The horse sashimi was particularly impressive, with no gamey taste and a smooth texture that allowed the natural flavor of the horse meat to shine through. The meal was satisfying in terms of portion size, especially with noodles served after the hot pot. I met up with my university friends at Ueno station to have drinks together! Since there were quite a few of us, I made a reservation for a course at a restaurant located about a 3-4 minute walk from Ueno station! The restaurant is in the same building as the karaoke place Manekineko, so it's quite easy to find! I reserved the Hakata Casual Course [3850 yen, 8 dishes]! - Hakata-produced seared mentaiko - The searing was just right and it was very delicious! Perfect for drinking snacks! - Daikon and jako with green shiso salad - A refreshing salad with crunchy daikon and flavorful jako! The green shiso dressing made it light and tasty! - Kyushu-sourced sashimi platter - Included sea bream, sweet shrimp, and octopus! The sea bream was fatty, the sweet shrimp was firm, and the octopus was chewy! All were fresh and delicious! - Hakata grilled skewers platter - Included negima and tsukune! Both skewers were perfectly grilled and seasoned with salt! Both were delicious! - Hakata specialty vegetable rolls platter - Included okra, quail eggs, eringi, and enoki mushrooms! All ingredients were favorites of mine, so it was great! My favorite was the quail eggs! - Hakata chicken steak - Crispy and juicy chicken steak made with Hakata local chicken! The tangy and spicy sauce paired perfectly with the chicken! A very satisfying and juicy chicken steak! - Fried rice - Colorful fried rice with carrots, eggs, and green onions, perfectly seasoned and very delicious! A tasty fried rice that can be enjoyed even when full! - Dessert - Even though I was full, there's always room for dessert! It was a reunion with my university friends after a long time! The timing of the food service was great, and even though it was all-you-can-drink, the drinks were served promptly! We had a great time! Thank you for the meal!!

I ordered the 3300 yen course which included beer and Tris Highball drink all-you-can-drink, but they served Kinmugi beer instead of what was listed on the menu. I had to upgrade to the premium course for an additional 500 yen, but the beer tasted the same. All the specified dishes were served at once. Udon noodles came out first. The Nanban and Karaage dishes had a strong chicken smell. The other dishes were also mediocre, and the dessert at the end was as shown in the photo. The total bill was 9205 yen for two people. I didn't bother to check the details. It was a good learning experience. Maybe it was all just a dream?
