タケマシュラン
Yumeya is a well-known restaurant that has been featured in many media outlets and is famous for having the best yakisoba in Kyoto. It is a popular spot at department store events and has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog. Located just a short walk from Sanjo Station or Kyoto City Hall Station, it is easily accessible for travelers. The restaurant has a main area as soon as you enter, as well as another space further inside, making it surprisingly spacious with almost 50 seats. I was able to walk in without a reservation, but it is a highly popular restaurant so it is recommended to make a reservation before visiting. The restaurant is loved by locals and attracts a diverse crowd, from salarymen having drinks and complaining about work to families spanning three generations. It is a casual okonomiyaki restaurant, so the alcohol is reasonably priced. A large bottle of beer is only 850 yen, which is very reasonable. The menu also offers a variety of dishes to accompany drinks, such as the tender beef tendon. The beef's gelatinous texture pairs well with the sweet and savory sauce, and with plenty of cabbage and green onions, it could almost pass as a full meal with rice. The tonpei-yaki has a generous amount of egg and is cooked to a soft texture, similar to an omelette. The staff are all friendly and attentive, carefully adjusting the heat to prevent burning. The signature dish, "mixed salt yakisoba," features thin noodles with a generous amount of vegetables, giving it a resemblance to Okinawan Somin Chanpuru. After enjoying these dishes and a bottle of beer, the total bill came to 3,450 yen. However, this was the result of eating quite a lot, and a visit with a few people enjoying a normal amount of food and drinks could cost between 1,000 to 2,000 yen per person. Each dish is very filling, so it is best to visit with a group and enjoy a variety of dishes while having a good time. I look forward to trying the okonomiyaki menu on my next visit. While Kyoto has many famous okonomiyaki restaurants like Kana, Yoshino, and Yamamoto Manbo, Yumeya offers a unique charm that sets it apart from the others.
