I was drawn to visit the restaurant by the headline of "Squid landed in Sakaiminato, Tottori Prefecture - Summer special bowl with special sauce." I tried the special bowl with small soba set for 1,160 yen - it was crispy and simply delicious! All the featured ingredients are carefully selected "Tenya" style, with the deliciousness supported by Tenya's tempura oil. Tenya's tempura oil is 100% vegetable oil, with zero cholesterol. In order to create safe and delicious food at an affordable price, Tenya selects ingredients carefully and has established a unique network from processing to supply. For tempura, flour and oil are crucial. Since its founding, Tenya has been developing tempura flour in collaboration with Nisshin Seifun and Nisshin Foods. The oil has also been specially ordered from Nisshin Oillio since the early days, using healthy vegetable oil that enhances the light flavor, crispy texture, and the deliciousness of the ingredients. They have put a lot of effort into making it enjoyable for everyone without getting tired of it. The automatic fryer (tempura automatic frying machine) is also designed to be environmentally friendly, with hardly any waste oil. I went to the Tenya Akihabara branch. It was my first time at a Tenya with a ticket machine. I had a tempura bowl and soba set. I was surprised by the slow service for an elderly lady struggling to buy a bento box to take home, and by a maid sitting on a bench near the entrance, playing on her phone instead of reminding customers not to linger after purchasing.

The tempura bowl for 560 yen with a large serving for an additional 80 yen is still delicious and satisfying. However, despite the restaurant being quite crowded, the operation is not well organized. It's unclear where to wait when the restaurant is full. There is no guidance on where the end of the line is, so it's confusing. They don't check the number of people waiting, so they sometimes seat one person at a table for two, or the order of people waiting is not followed properly, leading to chaos. To make a table for two, they suddenly asked seated customers to move. The service made me feel uncomfortable.

I forgot the name, but the seasonal recommended topping seafood tempura bowl was delicious. I also ordered squid tempura separately, and they asked if I wanted it in the bowl or separately, so I chose separately. They also gave me both tempura dipping sauce and topping sauce, so I could enjoy both flavors.

There is tempura sauce available now. The water pitcher is self-service but placed on each table. The tempura is fried after ordering, so it is crispy and delicious. For a limited time, you can get the special tempura bowl for 500 yen including tax.

On this day, everywhere I went was fully booked, and I was starting to become a lunch refugee. I found a ticket machine offering a "Tare-zuke Kaisen Tendon" (marinated seafood tempura rice bowl), so I purchased a small size for 840 yen. I sat at the counter and a small bowl was served. The seafood tempura consisted of shrimp, squid, and scallops, each individually fried instead of being mixed together. The tempura had a crispy texture with a marinated sauce, which may appeal to those looking for a light and crispy tempura. The bowl also came with pickled Hiroshima vegetables, which complemented the tempura well. I posted this review on my blog.

I ordered the tempura bowl (small size) with a topping of hot spring egg.☆.。.:*・° The tempura bowl had shrimp, pumpkin, squid, white fish, and green beans on top! The tempura was crispy and super delicious♪ Tempura and hot spring egg go really well together♪♪ There were dipping sauce and pickles on the table (*´﹀`*) All-you-can-eat pickles are great♡ The tempura and beer set, a little drinking set, is also good〜♪ I will go again.☆.。.:*・°

I love Tenya as a fast food option. I used to frequent the Ueno branch, but it closed during the pandemic so I haven't been going as much lately. Today, I got off at Suehirocho Station and went to the Akihabara branch. They used to have a menu item called Kakiage Tendon which I really liked more than the other tempura options, but for some reason, it's no longer on the menu. However, today they had a limited-time menu item, the Sakura Ebi Kakiage Tendon! The crispy and fine texture of the tempura is delicious! The tempura bamboo shoots and green peppers that come with it are also good. It's a limited-time offering, but I hope they make it a regular menu item.

I'm in the mood for a tempura bowl, so I opted for the convenient option here. I ordered the "Joten Don" for 650 yen, and it arrived in about 5 minutes. The "Joten Don" comes with 2 shrimp and 3 types of vegetables (pumpkin, lotus root, green beans). The regular tempura bowl includes shrimp, squid, white fish, and 2 types of vegetables (pumpkin, green beans), so the shrimp is the main highlight. While I didn't have a great impression of Tenya when it first opened, it seems to have improved significantly and now offers decent tempura bowls at a reasonable price. I think I'll try the seasonal menu items next time.

In Yuru Camp, there was a dish called "Tenchou" with 2 shrimp that Nadeshiko and the older sister were eating. Do you ever feel like eating that? If you want to eat it cheaply in Akihabara, Tenya is recommended. The "Jou Tendon" has 2 shrimp for only 600 yen, so it's a good deal. Plus, you get free pickles and barley tea for hydration and salt intake to help you get through the hot summer.

I visited for lunch on a regular day. I wanted to go to a nearby ramen shop but it was too crowded so I gave up. I went to Tenya instead. I ordered the regular size tempura bowl for 530 yen. The restaurant was almost full, with only one seat available. The customers were mostly men, ranging from young to older. When I sat at the counter, my order was served fairly quickly. The tempura included shrimp, white fish, green beans, pumpkin, and squid, all with a crispy batter and a sweet sauce. The shrimp was firm and easy to eat all the way to the tail. The white fish pieces were a bit small but tasty. The rice was also coated with sauce, making it easy to eat. I finished my meal in no time. Since the Koenji branch closed, I hadn't been to Tenya in a while, but it's a good place to enjoy a delicious tempura bowl at this price.

I went to Akihabara. For lunch, I went to the Tendon Tenya Akihabara store. I bought a tempura bowl ticket at the ticket machine. I used a free ticket to upgrade to a large portion of rice. "Tempura bowl large portion" at Tenya has a small amount of rice, so when you upgrade to a large portion, it becomes a satisfying volume for your stomach. I was curious about the "Coca-Cola in a bottle available" sticker on the chopstick holder, but I didn't see any customers drinking bottled Coca-Cola. I had the Original All-Star Tempura Bowl (690 yen). It's been two years since I last dined out, and I was very satisfied with the familiar tempura bowl. The freshly fried tempura was crispy and delicious, especially the shiitake mushrooms. There were partitions on the table, and it was reassuring to see that it was not crowded at 5 pm on a weekday, making it a comfortable dining experience after a long time.

On a snowy day, I decided to work overtime and have a meal at a restaurant. It was snowing heavily, but I wanted to have a drink before the long weekend. I also tried plum tempura for the first time, and it turned out to be surprisingly good. Lastly, I had cold udon noodles with dried leeks, which was decent despite the chain restaurant quality. Overall, the food was satisfying, and I enjoyed my meal at the restaurant.

I thought I would try out Tenya in Tokyo since I enjoyed the casual tempura in Kyoto. Nowadays, Tenya has a ticket machine system... I decided to go for the seasonal tempura bowl and anago, but I couldn't find any other appealing options. Is this the limit of Tenya? The tempura dipping sauce for the tempura bowl was a bit lacking. You can add more using the table sauce, but it just doesn't feel right. The anago was small and not well-drained, but surprisingly, the hokke had a nice fatty flavor and was delicious. The sake is reasonably priced when served in a bottle, but since the tempura lacked power, the cheap sake stood out in a negative way... It was not what I expected, so I left without ordering anything else. Tempura quality can vary greatly depending on the fryer, so maybe it's inevitable.

I felt like having a rice bowl dish, so I stopped by this place along the street. The interior has counter seats and table seats, and it's quite spacious. There are two ticket machines on the left and right. I ordered the original All-Star Tempura Bowl in a small size for 640 yen. It arrived in about 5 minutes. The large tempura at the back looks like a tempura mushroom, with shrimp, squid, lotus root, and green beans on top. According to the menu, there should be scallops as well, but unfortunately, I don't remember seeing any. The rice portion for the small size is probably less than 200g, so it feels quite small compared to the large tempura. I actually had tempura from Tenya a while ago (at a different location), and it was powdery and felt heavy, possibly due to the oil. However, the tempura I had on this day was light and didn't leave me feeling heavy after eating, despite the portion size. I just found out while researching for this post that it was operated by Royal. Considering that you can get a tempura bowl at this price, it's understandable why it gets crowded.

The free coupon for one shrimp and the large portion of tempura rice bowl for 580 yen at Tenya. When I entered the store, the strong smell of oil was overwhelming. It had been a while since I last visited Tenya, and I felt like it was enough. The sauce was too thick and it felt like it was overpowering the ingredients. I should have ordered it without sauce and adjusted it myself. It used to be listed as "kiss" on the menu, but now it just says white fish, so it may not always be kiss fish. The slightly greasy oil definitely affects the freshness. The bonus banana shrimp seems to have been available for a while. Well, I won't be going back again.

A major tempura restaurant called Tenya has introduced an unexpected collaboration of curry and tempura! Just in time before closing at 8 o'clock, and during a time when there were few customers, I placed my order! The tempura rice bowl that arrived looked delicious with lotus root on top. I thought it would be a Japanese-style curry, but the curry sauce was surprisingly thick. The color of the curry sauce remained on top of the rice, while the sauce itself did not seep into the rice. The perfect thickness of the sauce was impressive. I enjoyed eating the tempura rice bowl by breaking the tempura into bite-sized pieces and combining it with the rice and curry using a spoon. The onion flavor of the tempura blended well with the spiciness of the curry. Someone once said that there is no fried food that doesn't go well with curry, and tempura and curry indeed make a great combination. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal! I tried the limited-time Kinhatsusaba and clam tempura tendon (830 yen). It was my first time trying Kinhatsusaba, and it had a strong mackerel aroma which was delicious. The clam tempura was refreshing with ginger and trefoil as condiments, and the white meat inside was fluffy and went well with the tempura sauce. Highly recommended!

After purchasing a food ticket from the machine, you can take a seat. It tends to be quite crowded on weekdays, probably because of the affordability, convenience, and tastiness. Even if the prices go up a bit, I still find myself wanting to eat here occasionally. The "Small Tempura Rice Bowl" costs 470 yen including tax. It includes shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, pumpkin, and green beans. The green beans have a slight bitterness, and the pumpkin slices are thin, making them a bit overpowered by the sauce. The shiitake mushrooms are hot and delicious. The shrimp is surprisingly firm and tasty.
