Nihonbashi Muromachi is a cafe located in Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store. It is a concept shop of the London department store Fortnum & Mason, founded in 1707. They offer Fortnum & Mason's tea, scones baked in the bakery, sandwiches made with bread, afternoon tea, and cakes. It is popular among customers shopping at Mitsukoshi and people working nearby. The cafe is operated by Yuheim Co., Ltd. It is located about 1-2 minutes from Mitsukoshimae Station, on the B2 floor of the new building of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store. If you enter from the Hanzomon Line side, it is immediately on your right with a sign in Nile water blue called "Au de Nile". I visited in the afternoon. The interior of the store is bright and neatly designed. They have table seats arranged along the wall, in the middle, and by the aisle (with glass walls). Since it was in the evening, the cafe was about 70% full. The service was polite and attentive (although it varied depending on the staff). The menu includes: Sweets & Afternoon Tea Set (for 2 people 7,000 yen, for 1 person 3,500 yen), Cake Set (2,000 yen), Scone Set (1,600 yen), Sandwiches (1,400 yen~) with options to add cake (+290 yen) and tea (+400 yen). The drink menu includes: Tea (1,200 yen) with pot service. They offer a wide variety of Fortnum & Mason tea leaves. I ordered Chai (1,200 yen), an Indian tea with herbs and spices from an ancient recipe. The first cup was straight, with a scent of cumin and a spicy aftertaste. It was to my liking. The second cup was with milk, which was a sweet type. Adding milk enhanced the aroma of the spices. I recommend having this tea with milk. I spent about 35 minutes there, enjoying a leisurely time. It was quiet that day due to many solo customers, but being in a department store, it might feel lively depending on the time and the customers around you. Over 20 years ago, I bought tea leaves from Fortnum & Mason in London, which were cheaper compared to Japan. Since then, I hadn't felt the need to buy in Japan, and my priority to revisit London didn't increase. Being able to immerse myself in the atmosphere of Fortnum & Mason here made me satisfied.
