A Nepalese restaurant located in the middle of a small alley in Shin-Okubo Hyakunincho, just a few blocks away from Islam Street. The place seemed to be a Nepalese information office, but it turned out to be a restaurant. They offer lunch sets starting from 650 yen, with options like Dal Bhat curry set with chicken curry for 750 yen, lamb curry set for 1000 yen, and a special set with two types of curry and grilled chicken for 1000 yen. I ordered the lamb curry set, which came with a generous portion of rice, dal soup, sautéed spinach, spicy pickled vegetables, cucumber, carrot, and radish slices. The lamb curry was served separately and the meat was tender and easy to eat. The spiciness was just right for me. The dal had a rich flavor that complemented the curry well. They also offer a variety of Nepalese dishes like momo (dumplings), lamb dishes, and potato cumin stir-fry. The menu is in Japanese, making it easy for Japanese customers to enjoy Nepalese cuisine in this hidden gem of an alley.

Looking for the undiscovered Okubo Dalbert. This restaurant is located between Okubo Station and Shin-Okubo, just north of Okubo Street down a side street. Without looking it up online or having a local guide, it would be quite difficult to find this place. Additionally, you can't see inside the restaurant from the outside. There are no menu signs outside. Even with information online, it takes quite a bit of courage to step inside. When I entered around 6 pm, there were 2 customers already seated and no one else came in after me. The menu offers 3 set options: Dalbat, Roti, and Special. I chose Dalbat. You can choose the type of curry: mutton, chicken, or vegetable. On this day, the options were mutton, chicken, and vegetable. I chose mutton. The food was served in about 10 minutes. Mutton curry: a previous review mentioned that the meat was tough to chew. While the mutton was indeed chewy, it wasn't impossible to eat. The flavor of the curry was good. Dal: a standard dal typical of the area. You can ask for extra rice. The staff kindly offered to add a bit of mutton curry soup to my rice when they saw I had a lot of rice left. Much appreciated. I had some business in the Shin-Okubo area and stumbled upon this restaurant nearby. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look like much. Inside, it's a small dining room with a large painting on the wall. There was only one staff member running the place, and their Japanese communication skills seemed a bit off. I decided to try their "Mutton Sketty Sadeco" dish, which was made with dried mutton. The flavor was very spicy and had a refreshing heat to it. The meat itself was quite tough due to being dried, but it released a lot of umami as you chewed. The Egg Fried Rice was as expected, a spicy fried rice with egg. It was delicious and I would like to try other dishes if I have the chance. Thank you for the meal.

I believed the rating of this restaurant and decided to dine in. The restaurant had only one chef who also served as the waiter. I ordered the mutton curry set, but the mutton with bones was tough and I couldn't chew it no matter how hard I tried. I ended up leaving a lot of mutton uneaten. It's been a long time since I encountered meat as tough as steel. I wonder what kind of delicious curry those who rated this place 3 or higher had.

I went to Hamro Kaja Ghar for a late lunch today. I was planning to order Dal Bhat, but they had a Roti Set for 700 yen, so I decided to try that instead. I had never tried Roti before, so I was excited to see what it was like. The staff was very polite and attentive, even though there was only one person working. When the Roti Set was served, I took a bite and thought, "Oh, I forgot to take a picture!" In the attached photo, there are 3 pieces of Roti, but actually, they served 4 pieces. The menu said 6 pieces, though... The other dishes in the set were similar to Dal Bhat. When I finished the Roti, the staff asked if I wanted more rice, and I said yes, so it ended up becoming a Dal Bhat set. It was a good deal. When I entered, there were no other customers, but when I left, there were about 6 people. When I said "Dhanyabad" (thank you) in Nepali that I had learned recently, the staff understood and replied with the same. Next time, I want to try Chiura.

Located deep in the narrow alley of Shin-Okubo, a small Nepalese restaurant called "Hamro Kajagar." Opened in September 2020, this place might be a bit intimidating to enter due to its small storefront and hidden interior. The walls are adorned with paintings of the Annapurna range, giving off a feeling of being back in one's homeland. On this day, I ordered the national dish of Nepal, Dal Bhat, which consists of lentil soup, rice, and various curries and side dishes. The price for the Dal Bhat set is ¥650, which is quite reasonable. You can choose between chicken or mutton curry, and I opted for the spicy mutton. The mixed lentil dal had a hint of ginger, making it easy to gulp down like miso soup. The curry was well-prepared and tasty, suitable for Japanese palates. Furthermore, you can have unlimited refills of rice and dal. If you're a foodie looking for a budget-friendly and filling meal, "Hamro Kajagar" is the place to go. Remember this spot for your next visit.

<Visited in early June 2022> I visited a restaurant located in a residential area, two corners to the right from the corner of Islam Yokocho across from Shin-Okubo Station, towards Okubo Station. The restaurant is run by a Nepalese male cook, and a Japanese variety show is being shown on the TV in the back. I ordered the cheapest set, the Dal Bhat set (650 yen including tax), with lamb (chicken is also available), and the seemingly most affordable Steamed Momos (6 pieces for 390 yen) in the Shin-Okubo area. After about 10 minutes, the dishes were served on stainless steel plates like school lunch trays, along with a bowl of lamb curry. The mixed lentil soup with black urad beans and lentils poured over Basmati rice was perfectly seasoned. The mixed pickle with cucumber, carrot, and beans had a good balance of saltiness and acidity, complementing the rice well. The sautéed spinach had a delicious flavor, and munching on cucumber and carrot slices provided a nice break for the palate. Pouring the soupy bone-in lamb curry over the rice enhanced the flavors even more. The dumpling-shaped Steamed Momos paired well with the tangy and spicy Momos chutney (tomato-based dip sauce). Running out of rice, I asked for a refill along with more lentil soup, and they kindly added some meat-free lamb curry soup as a bonus. I finished the meal while adding variety to the flavors with the remaining Momos chutney. If I have the chance to visit again, I would like to try a different dish. P.S. The mural at the newly opened Nepalese restaurant near Yokohama Station's west exit resembled the one at Swayambhunath Temple with the Buddha's eyes. Although the composition of the murals is different, similar murals can be found at various locations like the 2nd floor shop near Otsuka Station's south exit, the semi-underground shop near Kamata Station's east exit, the underground 1st floor shop at Keikyu Kawasaki Station, and near Tobu Station. It's an enjoyable experience to appreciate these murals while exploring different eateries.

The Dal Bhat set here is delicious with a variety of side dishes compared to other restaurants! The fried rice looks good too, will try it next time! I feel like I've tried almost all the Dal Bhat sets in the Okubo area, this deep feeling is addictive!

Hamro Kaja Ghar [Delicious Dal Bhat Here Too] 2022 CURRY 54th Store 114th Meal March 25, 2022 * Curry 3067th meal since 2017 ■ Dal Bhat Set ¥650 ▷ Dal, ▷ Mutton Curry of your choice, ▷ Saag (stir-fried green vegetables), ▷ Achar, ▷ Salad, ▷ Rice * Rice and Dal are refillable as much as you want, which is common around here. The next day I had a cooking class scheduled, so I went to Shinjuku Ward Hyakunincho (Okubo Station / Shin-Okubo Station) to purchase spices and other ingredients. First, to fill my stomach, this time I visited Hamro Kaja Ghar, a place a little deeper into the alley on the north side of Okubo Street. It may feel a bit uneasy walking down the narrow and dark road, but don't worry, just think of it as a normal residential area. It's a simple restaurant. Since there are no glass windows, you can't see anything from the outside. The "OPEN" sign on the door is your clue. I open the door. The menu has what you're looking for. The ¥650 Dal Bhat Set. Until a couple of years ago, 500 yen Dal Bhat sets were everywhere around Hyakunincho, but you can't fight against the waves of rising ingredient costs. Lately, prices have become more around 600-650 yen. What you expect from a Dal Bhat set is the simple taste of the Dal, the deep richness of the mutton, and the acidity and saltiness of the Achar and Gundruk. Mixing together, each flavor amplifies the joy. Nepalese restaurants around Hyakunincho rarely disappoint. This night too, I enjoyed a delicious time. All's well that ends well.

I was thinking about trying the Dal Bhat at Hamro Kaja Garu in Okubo, but suddenly I felt like eating Nepalese food. I couldn't stop drinking with the spicy and addictive taste of Mutton Choila and Chicken Chow Mein. Nepalese appetizers are a must-have for regular consumption!

I had been trying to visit this place since last year, but it was always closed whenever I tried, so I got rejected several times. However, it seems like they have reopened for business now that things have calmed down with the coronavirus, so I made my first visit today. It was probably my fourth attempt. In the latter half of last year, I had been mainly visiting highly rated ramen shops and curry places, so I hadn't had Dal Bhat for a while. Today was my first time in a few months. The restaurant is located in a residential area down a narrow street off Okubo Street, so it can be a bit hard to find, but you can spot the Nepalese flag from a distance, so you'll be fine. The entrance is through an aluminum sliding door with posters covering the windows, making it hard to see inside from the outside, which can be a bit intimidating. Once you open the door and step inside, the restaurant is small but clean, and the staff quickly greets you, making you feel at ease. There are two 4-person booth seats and three 4-person table seats. The lunch menu consists of three types of Dal Bhat sets and three types of fried rice only. The menu is simple, even for dinner. I ordered the Dal Bhat set for 650 yen with spicy mutton curry. It took over 10 minutes for the food to be served, even though there were no other customers, which was a bit puzzling. However, when the piping hot curry and a mountain of rice arrived, everything was fine. I was surprised by the size of the rice and thought I wouldn't be able to finish it, but the dal (bean soup) was light but complemented the rice well, and the mutton was delicious, making it easy to eat. The portions of dal and curry were small, so they disappeared quickly, and when I asked for a refill of dal, they asked, "Anything else?" Apparently, refills are allowed for everything. I initially received a refill of dal, but then they also added more curry to the half-empty mutton curry. While I didn't need more rice, the fact that refills were free for curry was a nice touch. The first serving of the curry was small, but that was okay. The mula ko achaar was good, and the saag had proper mustard greens, so I was quite satisfied with the quality of the Dal Bhat. In the end, I finished all the rice that I thought I would leave behind. It was a delicious, generous, and affordable meal, especially for 650 yen with free refills. I also took advantage of the PayPay Shinjuku campaign for a 25% cashback in January. Thank you for the meal.

Located near Shin-Okubo Station, this Nepalese restaurant stands quietly in a back alley. It is nestled in a residential area, with a small light in the dark street at night. The structure is such that you cannot see inside from outside, so it may seem quite intimidating to the general public, but once you step inside, you will find a bright and warm atmosphere, so please feel at ease. Normally, I would go for the Dal Bhat, but on this day, I tried the Roti Set at a different restaurant after having Dal Bhat. The set included Dal, Sag, Muruko Achar, and the option to choose mutton curry. Instead of rice, I opted for roti, which turned out to be an interesting choice. While rice would have been the more suitable option, I discovered the surprisingly good combination of roti and dal. This Nepalese restaurant offers authentic flavors at an affordable price. Shin-Okubo is a remarkable area with a large number of restaurants at this level, so you can be fully satisfied here even when other places are crowded!

I was surprised when I entered the restaurant and saw a beautifully painted Nepalese mural on the wall. It felt like I was in a Nepalese restaurant. I ordered the Dal Bhat for 650 yen. I had the option to choose between chicken and mutton curry, and I chose mutton with medium spiciness. The curry was served in a separate dish on a plate. The curry had bones but was perfectly spicy and delicious. The Dal had a medium thickness with plenty of beans, which added a nice texture. The vegetables were crunchy and well-seasoned. For 650 yen, the portion size and taste were excellent. Thank you for the delicious meal!

"HAMRO KHAJA GHAR" located in Shin-Okubo, just off the main street, like "ROYAL GARDEN", offers a variety of Nepalese dishes. The meal included a mix of pickles served as a side dish, spicy stir-fried lamb tongue, bone-in mutton curry or chicken curry, sautéed mustard greens, cut vegetables, and unique lentil soup and rice. Overall, it was a satisfying Nepalese meal experience.

Located in a side street between Shin-Okubo and Okubo on Okubo Street, "Hamuro Kaja Gar" is a Nepalese restaurant that I discovered through another review by Five and decided to visit today. When I opened the somewhat hesitant sliding door, a Nepalese man greeted me from the kitchen with a warm "Welcome!" The restaurant was empty at 12:20 PM, so I was free to choose any seat. The interior was cozy, with a TV playing Japanese programs. I ordered the Dal Bhat for 650 yen, choosing mutton curry. The set included dal, curry (mutton/chicken), saag (stir-fried greens), achar, rice, and cut vegetables. The meal arrived in about 5 minutes, impressively quick. The dal, made with large beans, had a unique texture and was refillable. The portion of saag was generous for the price. The achar, made with cucumber, green peas, potatoes, green chili, and red onions, had a nice spicy kick. The mutton curry featured tender meat with bone and skin, and the gravy had a delicious flavor. As I enjoyed my meal, the restaurant quickly filled up with other customers. I decided to have a second helping of dal and left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied. I discovered a great restaurant today. Thank you for the meal.

I entered a narrow alley between Okubo and Shin-Okubo stations, away from the hustle and bustle of Okubo Street. I found a Nepalese restaurant with a flashy sign, which put me at ease. The restaurant had an aluminum door that made it hard to see inside. I sat at a small table near the entrance, and ordered a Dal Bhat set with mutton curry. It took a while for the food to arrive, but when it did, it was beautifully presented. The set included rice, lentil curry, mutton curry, pickles, greens, and salad, all of which were delicious. The mutton curry was spicy and flavorful, and the lentil curry had a nice texture. The chef reheated the lentil curry and poured it into my empty bowl without me asking. It was just me and the chef in the restaurant, and despite the language barrier, the service was natural and pleasant. It was a valuable experience to enjoy a leisurely lunch in such a peaceful setting.

Set A costs ¥750 including tax and you can choose the level of spiciness. Lassi costs ¥100 including tax. This Nepalese restaurant is located about a 5-minute walk from either JR Yamanote Line Shin-Okubo Station or JR Sobu Line Okubocho Station. It is a newly opened restaurant. I was curious about it, but I couldn't see inside because there were no windows, so I felt a bit nervous. However, I decided to go in. During weekday lunchtime, there was only one group of customers before me and one group after me. It seemed like there were more staff members than customers. The place can accommodate 4 groups at the tables, and once it's full, it feels crowded. The lunch menu offers choices like Dal Bhat (chicken curry), mutton curry, or a set with a choice of two curries and chicken tikka. I opted for the mutton curry Dal Bhat from Set A. The mutton curry had small bones in it. I wondered if it was really mutton... but let's call it mutton curry. It was a mildly spiced curry. The Dal soup came in a separate dish. I chose the spicy option, so I could see the cayenne pepper with the naked eye. The Dal soup was mainly made of large beans. I was expecting smaller beans, so I was a bit disappointed. The saag was made with rapeseed flowers. The set also included fresh vegetables, soft rice, and had a homely feel to it. In terms of the inexpensive lunch menu, you might not fully appreciate the charm of this restaurant. If you only consider the Dal Bhat, you might end up going to a more well-known place along the street. By the way, a few hours later, I had a stomachache so bad that I couldn't leave the bathroom. It seems that there was some ingredient that didn't agree with me. This was unrelated to the taste. Thank you for the meal.

Hamuro Kaja Gar "Utensils" are important, a reminder! Delivery is difficult as of April 25, 2022. Tabelog rating: 3.31 Hi there, today I'm working in Jingumae again~ I was recording guitar today. Recording string instruments is quite difficult. I have to sharpen my focus on pitch, chord sense, rhythm, making my ears and brain tired_:(´ཀ`) After recording, editing time awaits. That's when my important task begins. I have to connect the nice parts of the recordings and make a cool song♪ It's a behind-the-scenes job, but it's important (゚∀゚) Before that, let's order some "delivery" for dinner! Tonight, I chose a Nepalese restaurant from "Demae-kan" that I had researched in advance♪ It's not a delivery-only store, but an actual restaurant in the city. It seems to be located in the back alleys of Hyakunincho, near Okubo and Shin-Okubo, about a 5-minute walk away. I have a feeling it might be promising~ The name of the restaurant is "Hamuro Kaja Gar"! It's not your typical Indian restaurant, which is why I chose it. Plus, a fellow reviewer had visited the place. It doesn't seem like a knock-off. Ideally, I would go there in person to taste it, but I'm too busy... According to the information, it's located next to the Nepali newspaper editing office, run by the owner there, so it might be a true Nepalese restaurant. It's exciting for me to have chosen such a niche place, but it might be an adventure for staff who haven't tried Nepalese cuisine before? Well, let's just go for it occasionally (laughs) I'm happy that the set menu includes the standard Dal Bhat for a reasonable price of 900 yen♪ I naturally chose mutton for the curry! The Dal Bhat set is 900 yen. It seems to be 650 yen at the store, but with labor costs, it's this price... Dal refers to a bean soup, and Bhat (rice) is a composite word. Why is it "Bhat" and not "Bart"? Doesn't that bother you? I don't know Nepali at all, so I can't say for sure, but "bhaat" sounds like "Bhat" from the locals' pronunciation. ...Does that mean "Dal Bhat" is more unnatural? If you start worrying about it, there's no end, so I'll stop here (laughs) It's like "antique" being either "antique" or "antick"? It's not the same!! However, it seems to be the national food of Nepal. It's a one-plate meal with rice, curry, stir-fried dishes, pickles, and salad on a stainless steel plate! What's in this Dal Bhat? Mutton curry (HOT) Dal soup Achar salad Saag Rice All of these are included. The price for delivery is not bad. However, the presentation is too unappealing. The curry and Dal soup came in round plastic cups, while the salad, saag, and pickle were all mixed in one plastic container. And the rice was wrapped in aluminum foil in a plastic container. The lack of appeal really diminishes the appetite, and it made me realize once again the important role that stainless steel plates play. I think even using aluminum one-way containers with dividers for an additional 250 yen would create a better atmosphere, right? Looking at the photos in reviews, a take-out review by "joikko-san" showed a one-way container for the one-plate meal. This would definitely look better, so why not? The rice is long-grain, which is great♪ Japanese rice would make me lose interest, so this non-sticky rice is definitely a good match for curry! Upon closer inspection, it seems like Japanese rice is mixed in, giving it a not too dry but just right...

After finishing my workout at the gym and taking a shower at home, I planned to just boil some chicken and have a pack of somen noodles for dinner. However, on my way to the Shinjuku grocery store, I remembered hearing from Asia Hunter Kobayashi-san that the owner of the Indian dishware store next door was opening a Nepalese restaurant. Intrigued, I turned my bike towards the direction and found myself drawn to the lively sounds of singing and music. Without hesitation, I entered the door to find a grand celebration in full swing, marking the opening of the new restaurant. Despite feeling like an uninvited guest, I took a seat at an empty table and was served a variety of Nepalese dishes along with a glass of highball. The meal included Batmas Sadheko, Mutton Sekuwa, Chiura, Momo, Chicken Sekuwa, salad, Mutton Curry, and Mixed Achar. It turned out to be a satisfying post-workout meal with low carbs and high protein content. I also did some jaw exercises with the Sekuwa. I engaged in a conversation with Kumar, who works at a Nepalese newspaper, about the Nepalese community in Shin-Okubo and exchanged contact information before leaving. It was a unique experience of witnessing the opening of a Nepalese restaurant run by Nepalese people in Shin-Okubo.
