A popular beef cutlet restaurant that is always crowded during weekdays. The chain has expanded in Tokyo, but it remains very popular. It seems to be particularly popular among Asian foreigners. I visited on a weekend evening and was able to enter without waiting in line, but by the time I left around 5 pm, there was already a line of about 10 people forming. The staff all seemed to be young student part-timers, chatting and having a good time when not busy. The menu consists mainly of beef cutlets in various portion sizes and set menus. I chose the cheapest option. The beef cutlet comes with two types of sauce, and it is served slightly rare, almost like yakiniku style. Perhaps this is a clever way to prevent food poisoning. The beef cutlet is sliced small, so even though the portion is not large, it is satisfying. The grated yam also makes you feel full quickly. The set menu is well-structured to enhance satisfaction. There are already four branches in Shinjuku, and it seems like this trend will continue.

I waited for almost an hour while lining up from around the exit of the neighboring Sukiya. Well, it's a popular place, so waiting in line for a long time is not unusual. The food was delicious and satisfying, but for some reason, the air conditioning wasn't working properly and the inside of the restaurant was very hot. I was sweating while eating. The water was at room temperature, which I found unacceptable. The food was good, but the restaurant really needs to improve its ventilation.

Shinjuku Sanchome Station is just a 2-minute walk away! I recommend visiting this restaurant during off-peak hours (this time, I visited on a Tuesday at 6:30 pm and entered around 7:00 pm). They serve medium rare beef cutlets which you cook on a mini stove at your table, a unique style at Gyukatsu Motomura. It was delicious and refreshing. I easily finished the 260g (largest size, 2 cutlets) portion. However, this popular restaurant can get very crowded, especially with tourists. At 7 pm on a weekday, you might have to wait for about 60 minutes. So, it's better to visit a bit earlier or later to avoid peak times. If it was easier to get in, I would definitely visit more often. It's so delicious, so if you haven't been yet, give it a try!

After waiting for over 20 minutes past noon, a male staff member asked for my order. The menu only showed a set of three small dishes: warabimochi, mentaiko, and tororo. When I mentioned I only wanted the tororo dish, he made a visibly displeased face. The customer service was at its lowest level. Even at the checkout, when I mentioned using PayPay, he seemed bothered. I had the grated wasabi dish, which was delicious, but the service was so bad that I won't be going back.

I visited the restaurant on Sunday night around 7 o'clock, and there was a line. Most of the customers were foreigners, and the restaurant is small, so it tends to get crowded. However, I was able to get in within 30 minutes, so the turnover seems good. The service was fast, and there were plenty of delicious seasonings to go with the meat.

I had beef cutlet for the first time and it was delicious. I can't compare it to other places since it was my first time, but it was tasty. It cost 1650 yen for 130g, but I finished it quickly. Personally, I recommend eating it with wasabi soy sauce. It's cooked on an iron plate, but the meat sticks and it's a bit pricey. I don't know many other beef cutlet places to compare, but I will try different ones because it's delicious.

On my way to the station, I happened to pass by "Gyukatsu Motomura" where there is usually a long line. Surprisingly, there was no line this time so I decided to go in. The location is about a 5-minute walk straight from the southeast exit of Shinjuku towards Marui. The restaurant was packed inside but very clean. This place is quite unique as they serve rare beef cutlets cooked on a hearth, which is a must-try. They only offer a simple menu of beef cutlet set with grated yam. You can add extra beef cutlet but cannot order beef cutlet alone. The only drink options are draft beer and highball. The focus here is definitely on the beef cutlet and it was really good. I tried a piece of the lean meat as it is, and it was surprisingly tender with a hint of sweetness. However, I was a bit nervous so I lightly grilled it on the hearth before eating. I am usually sensitive to fatty meat but didn't feel it much in this case. The rice is free for refill and it's barley rice. I will definitely go back again!

I had beef cutlet for the first time. It was amazing to eat it grilled right in front of me on the hot plate. It was a bit pricey for lunch, but having beef cutlet while enjoying a cold beer was just perfect. It was great that we didn't have to wait in line and could get in right away. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

I put the meat on a hot stone slab and eat it at my own pace. The variety of sauces like onion sauce, olive oil, and salt were all delicious and satisfying. If you're looking for a casual meal with meat in Shinjuku, I recommend considering a visit to this restaurant.

Located about a 3-minute walk from the southeast exit of Shinjuku Station. I went during the daytime on a weekday and there were about 2 groups waiting in line! You order before entering, and once you're seated, the food is served right away. I ordered the simple "Gyukatsu set" where you cook the rare meat yourself. Rice, miso soup, and cabbage can be refilled for free twice. There are two types of sauce, soy sauce and yamawasabi, for flavor variation. It's recommended for after work or hanging out with friends!

This is a beef cutlet specialty shop located down the hill from the south exit of Shinjuku Station! I went in around 2 o'clock, so there weren't many customers and I ordered the 130-gram beef cutlet, which arrived quickly! It was served very rare, just like in the menu photo, and you cook it on the tabletop iron plate. It came with two sauces, but I found it most delicious when eaten with salt. The rice was refillable, and I left feeling completely satisfied!

Hmm, maybe I spread it too thin... It seemed like every store I looked at had long lines. When I first tried it in Shibuya, I thought, "Wow, this is delicious." But... rather than the taste itself, I think it's because the premium feeling has faded due to it becoming too common. However, why does it taste so good at certain places like Oyada... There must be something different about it. Thank you for the meal.

This is a beef cutlet specialty shop located about a 5-minute walk from the south exit of Shinjuku Station! The shop is located underground and has a mix of counter seats and table seats, with a table-top hot stone grill for cooking. The beef cutlet arrives with a thin batter and barely cooked, allowing you to adjust the cooking to your liking. I recommend enjoying it rare with a sprinkle of salt, and mixing it with rice! It also comes with two special sauces, making the meal incredibly delicious when eaten here! Rice refills are free and the cost performance is great!

In Tokyo, when it comes to "gyukatsu," many people think of "Motomura." They serve gyukatsu that you can fry yourself for 1 minute. Motomura is essential in establishing the standard for gyukatsu. Location: 4 minutes walk from Shinjuku Station. Crowdedness: I visited on a weekday night. It can get crowded during lunchtime, but usually, you can get in right away. Today, I had the 1.5 portion gyukatsu set. The menu has been renewed since my last visit. Previously, they had set menus with mentaiko barley rice, but now when you order gyukatsu, you can choose one side dish. Additional side dishes cost an extra 100 yen, with options like grated yam or mentaiko. They also had new items like gyutan katsu set and chin soup tea pickles on the grand menu. It's strange that these updates are not reflected on the official menu. As always, being able to fry the gyukatsu to your liking and the delicious wasabi sauce are great. The 1.5 portion set was just the right amount, as I would get tired of it if it was a 2 portion set.

A few minutes from Shinjuku Station Southeast Exit in Shinjuku, Tokyo, there is a specialty restaurant for beef cutlets. They were distributing New Year's coupons on their Line account, so I decided to visit after about a year. To my surprise, they were offering a limited-time dish - beef cutlet with dashi tea pickles. I couldn't resist and ordered it along with using the Line coupon to get a half-size cutlet. The set included a 130g beef cutlet with dashi tea pickles for 1,700 yen and a half-size cutlet with the coupon. The regular beef cutlet set arrived first, followed by a thermos with dashi tea. The sweetness of the beef cutlet never disappoints, but I couldn't help but feel that this chain, although unique, doesn't quite match up to the classic taste of the original village. As the beef cutlet started to dwindle, I enjoyed pouring the dashi tea over the rice with condiments. The strong umami flavor of the dashi tea was delicious. I added vinegar citrus and red yuzu pepper for some flavor variation. As I write this review, I realize it's been a while since I last ate here. Once you try their beef cutlet, you'll be hooked.

This is a popular beef cutlet specialty shop located just a few minutes from Shinjuku Station Southeast Exit in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The restaurant aims to make beef cutlets a part of Japanese food culture by providing delicious beef cutlets in a straightforward manner. The beef cutlets are fried to a medium rare and then grilled on a hot stone, to be enjoyed with wasabi soy sauce. The breadcrumbs are finely ground and the coating is thin, resulting in a light and refreshing taste. Enjoy the beef cutlets with their special wasabi sauce or rock salt for an enhanced flavor. Some menu items include the Beef Cutlet Set with barley rice and grated yam for 1,400 yen, and the Half Beef Tongue Cutlet for 500 yen. The pink, perfectly cooked beef cutlet can be further grilled to your preference on the hot plate. The beef cutlet is tender and flavorful, while the beef tongue cutlet has a delicate texture and a hint of sweetness. Adding grated yam on rice and enjoying the meal with cabbage makes for a satisfying dining experience. Beef cutlets, unlike pork cutlets, offer a unique and delicious meat quality that is worth indulging in once in a while.

I met Mr. Motomura, who is famous for his beef cutlet, for the first time and tried the beef tongue cutlet! I wonder if this is limited to this store...? I was intrigued and decided to order it! At Motomura, the beef tongue is cooked on a separate iron plate for each person, which is the highlight. Maybe because beef tongue has less fat, it doesn't sizzle as much? There were some slightly tough parts with 1-2 strands, but overall it was a delicious beef tongue with a good balance of firmness and tenderness! Personally, I prefer the beef cutlet from Grand. Also, I wish there was a bit more lemon flavor in the lemon juice that came with the set! It felt a bit oily. It's nice that you can add it separately or choose from mixed menus according to your preference.

I used it for the first time. I ordered a beef cutlet set meal with mentaiko and grated yam, and also half-sized beef tongue cutlet. I thought the beef cutlet would be served rare as I often see in pictures, but it was actually grilled. Eating it after lightly searing the surface on a hot plate made it hot, tender, and delicious. I was very satisfied as I could also enjoy changing the taste with wasabi soy sauce, sauce, salt, etc.

Shinjuku, 21:20. The shortened operating hours of restaurants in the 23 wards continue (and an extension has been announced). I don't keep track of which places are serving alcohol, so if I don't slip into a restaurant that is still open, I might miss out on food. So, I decided to dive into one ε=(*ノ´Д`)ノ I ordered the 130g beef cutlet set with mentaiko (spicy cod roe) for 1400 yen. It was served in about 5 minutes. Beef cutlets are always good, fast (´∀`)b It seemed a bit lacking compared to other places, but I can't be picky at this point. So, I started eating. The taste really reflected the appearance. The wasabi was also a bit dry. The cabbage dressing and miso soup were the most delicious. By the way, this place seems to be officially called the Shinjuku South Exit branch (confirmed by the receipt with the name, address, and phone number). As of August 28, 2020, it was listed as the "Shinjuku branch" on Tabelog, so I reported it to the management. There are also other branches in Shinjuku, in front of Alta, and in Kabukicho.

I visited the restaurant before 1 pm on a weekday. Normally, there is always a long line by the stairs, but this time the restaurant was not crowded. I ordered the Beef Katsu & Tongue Katsu Set Meal with grated yam (2200 yen). I was a bit hesitant about the rare look of the beef katsu in the photo, but this restaurant provides a personal grill (hot stone) so you can cook it to your liking. It stays warm even if it cools down, which is nice. The dipping sauces include wasabi soy sauce, sauce, salt, olive lemon oil, etc., so you won't get bored. The tongue katsu can be enjoyed as it is. Personally, I think next time I'll just order the beef katsu. The grated yam was delicious, but there was too much meat for me to have room for extra rice.
