Katsuya
Address: 192-0032 Tokyo, Hachioji, Owada-cho
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday 10:30-2:00
Katsuya is a chain fast food restaurant specializing in Japanese-style room tempura pork cutlet dishes. They offer a variety of fried food items such as tonkatsu, shrimp fry, and fried chicken. Their catchphrase is "Crispy, fluffy, and generous portions." However, the products at the Owada branch were truly disappointing. The pork cutlet was very tough, almost to the point of being chewy, with no juiciness. Compared to the shrimp fry, the batter of the shrimp fry became thicker and thicker, making the shrimp look pitifully small. The fried chicken skin was extremely hard, so hard that it felt like cutting the inside of the mouth. The variety of dishes was relatively less than before, the prices were higher, but the quality of the food had really declined.

I was intrigued by the Chicken Katsu with rich tonkotsu sauce, so I came to try it. I usually like the pork miso soup at Katsuya, so I only order the Pork Miso Soup Set (with loin cutlet) or upgrade to the Pork Miso Soup Large Set with loin cutlet. I had high expectations for the rich tonkotsu sauce, but it wasn't as rich as I had hoped. The combination of the ramen toppings and the Chicken Katsu didn't quite harmonize, feeling more like separate components rather than a cohesive dish. It's a taste that might appeal to some, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me.

The pork cutlet set meal for ¥720- with a large serving of miso soup for an additional ¥40-. The 120g freshly fried pork cutlet is crispy and delicious. It's even better with plenty of sauce on the cabbage and the cutlet with lots of hot mustard. The large miso soup, which is twice the size, is filled with soft-cooked vegetables, pork belly, konjac, and especially potatoes. I love it. The blonde, cheerful waitress is very friendly and has a great personality.

Visit on September 7, 2022. I have visited a few times before, but it has been a while since my last visit. I entered a little after 2 pm. The restaurant is spacious, bright, and clean. It's a nice place. There were 7 customers before me and 4-5 customers after me (including takeout orders). The voices of young female staff echo throughout the restaurant. I was curious about the limited-time "Cold Soba with Pork Cutlet Stew" for 759 yen (tax included), but I decided against it because it involves putting hot pork cutlet stew on cold soba, which didn't appeal to me. Instead, I ordered the Shrimp and Pork Cutlet Set Meal for 924 yen (tax included). It arrived in 5-6 minutes. The set included 2 pork cutlets, 2 shrimp tempura, plenty of shredded cabbage, a slice of lemon, and tartar sauce. It also came with rice and miso soup. The miso soup was packed with pork belly, daikon radish, carrots, potatoes, konjac, and green onions, making it very satisfying. I generously poured the sweet sauce over the pork cutlets. They were crispy and slightly garlicky, cooked just right. The meat was tender and delicious. The shrimp tempura was also very good. The shredded cabbage was served with sesame dressing. I also received a "100 yen discount coupon" for my next visit. Thank you for the meal.

Visited on a weekday at 12:20, almost full. Ordered the special Katsu donburi for ¥715. I usually crave Katsu donburi in the morning, so I decided to try it out. The special Katsu donburi arrived promptly after ordering. It consisted of a thick cutlet, a soft-boiled egg, and simmered pork cutlet surrounding the rice. The simmered pork cutlet was perfectly tender! The rice was packed nicely underneath. I cracked open the soft-boiled egg and enjoyed the creamy texture. It was a luxurious Katsu donburi experience. So delicious! Next time, I'll try the Katsu donburi with plum. Thank you for the meal.

I hope Hachioji becomes a livelier town! This time, I visited "Katsuya Hachioji Owada Store," located a 15-minute walk from JR Kita-Hachioji Station. This is my second visit to Katsuya. The first time, I tried the Katsudon as recommended by a fellow reviewer and found it delicious. This time, I learned about their year-end appreciation campaign offering discounted prices for four days. From December 2nd to 5th, Katsudon, Sauce Katsudon, Rosukatsu Set, and Katsu Curry are all priced at 550 yen each. Today is the last day of the campaign. I decided to visit the Owada store to try something different from my previous visit. The store is located along National Route 16, a busy road connecting Hachioji and Yokohama. The parking lot is shared with another restaurant and can accommodate over 30 cars. When I arrived around 2 pm, the parking lot was almost full, and there was a queue inside the restaurant. The 41-seat restaurant was packed. The staff, mainly female, were energetic and provided quick service. I ordered the Katsu Curry (Rosu 120g) as it was the most cost-effective option during the campaign. It was a great deal, priced at 550 yen instead of the usual 869 yen. The katsu was crispy and tender, and the curry had a deep flavor with a hint of spiciness. The cabbage was sliced to a thickness of 1.1mm to 1.2mm, providing a nice texture. Overall, the meal was delicious, and I received a 100 yen discount voucher for my next visit. Katsuya's Katsu Curry is definitely worth trying, even at the regular price, but at 550 yen during the campaign, it's a steal. Many customers continued to arrive, some for takeout. Katsuya's appreciation campaign was a huge success.

This is Katsuya☆ Hachioji Owada store. Sauce Katsu Don (Ume).... 539 yen with 100 yen discount coupon. This store is located 950 meters from Kita-Hachioji Station and also along Route 16. I came before the 100 yen discount coupon ran out (lol). Of course, it's after climbing a mountain. The takeout here is amazing, with long lines, but I was fine because I entered a little before the line. I think it's delicious if it's freshly fried and freshly made.

I often use Katsuya for delivery! Although I frequently order delivery from Katsuya, I had never actually visited their physical store... So, by chance, I noticed one of their stores while on the move and finally decided to go in!! The aroma of their donburi sauce and fried food inside the store was irresistible...!! Just as I expected!! Since it was my first time at a physical store, I also tried their pork miso soup! Mmmmm!! Delicious!! The sweet sauce on the katsudon paired with the savory pork miso soup was the perfect combination for lunch! This store also has a parking lot, making it convenient for customers who drive!

I received an email from Katsuya and the special katsudon looked very delicious, so I decided to go. The half-cooked egg was just the right firmness, and I enjoyed it with the katsu. The regular katsudon is also delicious and good value, but the special katsudon was really tasty. It was a cold and rainy day, so the miso soup helped warm me up. Thank you for the meal.

When I tried to go to the famous tonkatsu restaurant ○ Hon in Hachioji, I found out they are closed on Wednesdays. I suddenly had a craving for tonkatsu, so I decided to try it for the first time at Katsuya along Route 16. I ordered the rosu katsu set for 724 yen, which was decent considering the price. The sauce was different from Worcestershire, with a tangy flavor of lemon and pepper. People used to sweet sauces might find it a bit unusual.

Katsuya Group offers voluminous and inexpensive meals. The Katsudon Matsuya costs ¥850 and comes with two 80g pork cutlets and two eggs. The portions are generous and the taste is simple and classic. I like to add a bit of shichimi spice and enjoy the all-you-can-eat pickles on the side. The service may be a bit lacking in personal touch, but it's a good option when you want to eat heartily. However, they don't seem to have any days off. I could use a break soon... Thanks for the meal.

Today, despite it being the year-end and New Year holidays, I am working at the office on a holiday. The office is cold and empty, with only me on this floor. Feeling a bit down. Anyway, it's lunchtime now! When feeling like this, a good lunch option is definitely going out to eat. And what better than a pork cutlet bowl? Located on Route 16 Bypass in Oiwada-cho, Hachioji City. Heading north at the intersection with Koshu Kaido, it's on the left after the first traffic light. This is a chain restaurant specializing in pork cutlet and pork cutlet bowls. I arrived around 12 o'clock and ordered the pork cutlet bowl (490 yen). It was served in about 5 minutes. Let's dig in. The pork cutlet is topped with egg and mitsuba (Japanese parsley). The meat is about 15mm thick, providing a satisfying bite. The meat is tender, the flavor is rich, and since it's freshly made, the breading is crispy while the sauce makes it moist, giving it a great texture. And all this for 490 yen, quite affordable. It was delicious. Highly recommend this pork cutlet bowl from this chain restaurant. Now that I'm warmed up, back to work.

"The tea options include hot and cold! The customer flow is non-stop even close to 3 pm (laughs). I'm in the mood for a katsudon! They advertised a katsudon for 490 yen, but in reality, it's 514 yen (tax included)! The interior of the restaurant is clean and the service is energetic. Maybe I came at a bad time, or maybe the organization is lacking? It's a bit chaotic inside, maybe they expanded the menu too much? In other words, things are not running smoothly (laughs). This katsudon seems to be a bit too much for the bowl! When they serve the large portion (bamboo) and the regular portion (plum) in the same bowl, it looks embarrassingly small. So, a katsudon that resembles a Picasso painting appears. They must have mixed several eggs at once because there is no trace of the yolk in the katsudon they served! Where did the yolk of the medaka go!?"

It's a chain restaurant, but good food is good food. I had never been to Katsuya before. It was close to 3 pm, well past lunchtime, and I was heading towards the Chuo Expressway. I decided to go in after all, and the place was empty at this time. The interior was like a Yoshinoya, with a counter style and only one other customer. What should I eat? I was considering a simple pork cutlet bowl, but I also felt like having miso soup. Then I saw the Pork Cutlet Set, which came with two pork cutlets and a large bowl of miso soup for only 650 yen. That's a great deal! The food served on the tray was impressive. The miso soup was full of ingredients and tasty, and the pork cutlets were freshly fried. They were crispy with a nice texture and tender meat. I couldn't believe that just the two pork cutlets would cost 500 yen. The effort put into this by the company is amazing. I didn't know that Katsuya offered such a great value. I left satisfied.

When I'm hungry, I always go to this place. It's close to my house and perfect for grabbing a meal after visiting a friend. It's a chain restaurant, but the food is delicious and convenient. It's my go-to for katsudon. I usually get the pork cutlet bowl or the shrimp cutlet set. It's tasty and affordable, the best katsudon chain in my opinion. Whenever I crave katsudon, this is where I go without hesitation.
