This is a tonkatsu bento shop in Asakusa. Among the chain tonkatsu shops, I think Saboten's tonkatsu is the most delicious. I was in Asakusa that day and needed to buy lunch bento, so I remembered this shop and decided to visit. I believe there's nothing better than freshly fried tonkatsu, but strangely, the tonkatsu in their bento still tastes delicious even when it cools down. I have occasionally used this shop before for their bento. When buying a bento, I always choose the fillet, so this day I ordered the fillet without hesitation. They cut it right away, serve it with rice, so there is hardly any waiting time. I appreciate them serving warm rice. After purchasing, I hurried back home. Although it wasn't warm anymore, the tonkatsu was soft and easy to eat, and I realized once again how delicious it is.

Asakusa is a representative downtown area, with many unique street names and alleys. One of them is Sushiya Street, located between Tanahara-cho and Rokku or Hanayashiki. Despite the name, there aren't actually many sushi restaurants lined up, but it's still a nice area to walk through with its arcade full of eateries. At the end of the arcade, you'll find this well-known tonkatsu chain. While they do have dine-in options, it's more known for its takeout. This particular branch offers bento boxes and prepared foods for takeout. I bought a bite-sized hirekatsu and a cream croquette to enjoy with beer back at my hotel. The crab cream croquette was tasty even without sauce, with a gentle flavor. The hirekatsu was tender and delicious with sauce. Overall, it was a satisfying experience for a takeout tonkatsu place.

A chain store in Asakusa that specializes in fried side dishes. They actively sell limited-time products with a variety of options to keep customers entertained. They seem to have a monthly cycle for their limited-time products, which makes me want to visit and try them out. However, I feel like many of the items are not worth the price due to their size. In November 2016, they had Beef Stew Menchi and Rich Cheese Chicken Cutlet as their limited-time items. The cheese was indeed rich and the chicken was soft and easy to eat, although I didn't feel much flavor from the meat itself. The Menchi was an oval croquette filled with beef stew, with a fine and delicate coating that I haven't seen in other items from this store before. The beef stew had a strong flavor, although not much meatiness, and slightly overshadowed the Menchi. Both items were tasty but quite expensive.

"Saboten" bento boxes are relatively expensive...! From the perspective of bento boxes, they may be considered "expensive," but if you consider that the main focus is on tonkatsu dishes, they may be reasonably priced. It's true that "Saboten" bento boxes have their own unique qualities! These include the quality of the crispy coating and filling even when cold, delicious white rice even when cold, a variety of tonkatsu dishes incorporating current trends, and the reliable Japanese obachan (older ladies) who handle the operations and customer service. These factors contribute to the price. The "Summer Flavor Bento" this time easily met these standards. The fried chicken, crab cream croquette, and seafood trio katsu were all delicious, even though it's unclear why they are considered "summer flavors." One weekday evening, I was wandering around the area near ROX in Asakusa. It was around 6:30 pm and I was feeling hungry, thinking about having some soba or ramen, but then I caught a whiff of a delicious smell of frying oil. I looked around and saw the lights of "Tonkatsu Shinjuku Saboten Asakusa ROX-mae Store." I decided that tonkatsu would be a good choice for tonight, so I opted to get a takeout. Considering my family's preferences, I chose the following items: Rosu Katsu (pork loin cutlet), Tokusen Hire Katsu (premium pork fillet cutlet), and Ebi Katsu (deep-fried shrimp). Personally, I prefer Rosu Katsu, but I thought it would be good to have options for my family members with different tastes. I brought the tonkatsu home and we enjoyed it for dinner. The Rosu Katsu was indeed delicious, just as I expected. My companion happily savored the Ebi Katsu, while another family member enjoyed the Tokusen Hire Katsu with a beer. We all enjoyed the meal without any discomfort, as expected from this tonkatsu place. Next time, I think I'll go for the Rosu Katsu again. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I ate the pork cutlet bento here. I have also eaten it at the store. Saboten is very famous. The tonkatsu looks very nice, with large breadcrumbs that are crispy, but the meat is not juicy. It's dry. Even though the meat is thick, it's not impressive. The price is cheap so I think it's understandable, but I think Sangenjaya's tonkatsu is better. Hmm, I haven't tried other fried foods. Maybe that would be better.

I love tonkatsu and eat it often, but on this day I didn't have time to eat at a restaurant, so I decided to get a bento box from "Saboten" that I found. I had bought their pork cutlet a couple of times before and made katsu sandwiches at home (lol). This was my first time buying a bento box! When I bought the pork cutlet bento and ate it at home, the meat was tender and there were four different side dishes included, which was surprisingly luxurious (^.^)! When I was looking for a bento shop around here, it was quite hard to find one. I searched and found Saboten, so I went there right away. [Shop] The shop has an open feel, making it easy to buy. Since it's takeout, that's only natural, right? There was a female staff member inside the shop, briskly preparing the bento. There is a glass showcase with tonkatsu and other fried foods lined up inside. [Food] Tokyo Retro Rosukatsu Don Rosukatsu with plenty of sauce on top, so the breading is moist. In my mind, the image of tonkatsu is "crispy breading," so this feels like a different dish. Oh, the sauce is only on the surface. Mixed Katsu Bento The mixed bento with fillet, loin, and shrimp fry is great for those who want to try a variety of things. [Service] There were a few people standing in front of the shop waiting to buy, so I waited toward the back. Then, a staff member came out of the shop and brought the bento to where I was standing! How thoughtful! It's a little thing, but it's nice. Customer service, including this kind of consideration, is important. ☆Saboten, where the excellent service leaves a lasting impression.

During my business trip to Tokyo, before heading to my hotel, I stopped by this shop. They had a variety of bento boxes displayed in the showcase, including saboten bento and many others. I ordered the... Special Pork Cutlet Bento for 850 yen. There was also a foreigner waiting for their order, and they also chose the Special Pork Cutlet Bento. I guess everyone craves meat, right? After checking into the hotel, I took a shower, grabbed a canned beer, and finally opened the lid of the Special Pork Cutlet Bento... Wow, it looks simple but quite good! There was enough tonkatsu sauce to pour over the pork cutlet, cabbage, and rice. I picked up a piece of pork cutlet, topped it on the rice, and... it was delicious! Both the pork cutlet and the sauce were really tasty! I finished it all in no time. I actually had a hard time choosing between the Iberico Pork Minced Cutlet and the Special Pork Cutlet Bento... and sadly chose the latter. Well, I guess next time I'll go for the Iberico Pork Minced Cutlet Bento!

Saboten is a well-known tonkatsu restaurant. I tried their Katsu sandwich called "Milfieu Sand" which is delicious. It consists of thinly sliced pork with cheese sandwiched in between, coated with batter and fried to make a sandwich. It is cut into three pieces and packed in a box, making it easy to eat. The slightly sweet sauce is also delicious. The portion is quite light, making it a good snack for high school boys. It might be even more delicious than the tonkatsu itself. It is conveniently located for going to see rakugo performances, so I went with my friends and enjoyed it. Highly recommended. The staff at the restaurant were friendly and provided prompt responses to our questions. They must all be hard workers.

I knew about it for a while, but I tried buying a Hirekatsu bento for the first time. The women at the shop were all efficient and kind, and there were a few other customers as well... But when I got home and tried eating it, I was surprised by how not tasty it was... I feel really sorry, but it might have been the worst I've ever had. It might be because of the price difference, but if it's the same chain of tonkatsu restaurants, then definitely Wako is much tastier. It's disappointing, but I won't go there again. However, considering there were other customers, maybe it was just not to my taste (*^_^*)

I want to eat a hot and crispy croquette. But I can't seem to find a shop like a butcher's shop in a shopping street. The butcher shops in the shopping street are closing one after another due to aging. When I ordered a freshly fried croquette at Saboten, they gladly fried one for me. They even gave me a pack and a plastic bag. Indeed, hot croquettes are delicious. The inside is just pure potato croquette. Such shops should also have delicious cutlets and horse mackerel.

March 18th was cold. During the blessing rain of the equinox, I passed the time until lunch by getting some pork cutlets for dinner. I gave up on Kameju at 10:30, went to pray, drank sweet sake, and bought ohagi at the plum garden (I didn't know it was the equinox). I also bought some shichimi pepper that I won't be able to use up. Just as I was leaving the arcade, I found "Saboten". I decided on pork cutlets for dinner! I usually like loin cutlets, but today, following my mother's example, I ended up buying the "Special Soft Fillet Cutlet for 680 yen" and also the "Saboten Anniversary Pack for 1,100 yen" because of the current campaign. I should have just gotten the Special Soft Fillet Cutlet and 2 pieces of fried oysters... Since there is no Saboten near my place, I get excited when I find one and end up buying something. I only know about takeout...

The bento box and fried food were delicious.

Asakusa Koen Rokku, a familiar takeout chain of tonkatsu located at the intersection of Shin-Nakamise and Broadway. I visited on a Sunday during the Sanja Matsuri festival. On this day, I visited Asakusa to attend a certain event held there, separate from the festival. As I passed by this store, they were selling cupped fried chicken and draft beer, which is not something they usually offer. It seemed to be enticing drinkers with a sign saying "For eating on the go!" Despite being a bit of a contrarian, I couldn't resist this offer. I bought a pack of fried chicken and a draft beer, and since there were chairs set up outside, I sat down and enjoyed my snack while watching the people passing by on Broadway. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly, as expected from a tonkatsu specialty store. However, I felt that the seasoning was a bit lacking. A stronger flavor would have complemented the beer and rice better, in my opinion. Nevertheless, the amount of fried chicken and beer was just right for a casual drink and snack. With my thirst quenched and energy boosted, I strolled through Asakusa Koen Rokku.
