After exiting the JR Ueno Station central ticket gate, turn left towards Asakusa exit and go down the stairs to the left. If you go straight past Wendy's on the right, you will find a FamilyMart on the left, and the restaurant is on the 3rd floor of the building where FamilyMart is located. I tried the Hakata-style gyoza, which is a must-try for gyoza lovers with its crispy wings. I also had the Kagoshima Kurobuta pork belly, which is best enjoyed as is first to savor the original taste of the pork, then you can dip it in salt or squeeze lemon for different flavors. The deep-fried sand lance was another delicious dish made with Kagoshima sand lance that is crispy on the outside. Try it as is first, then dip it in mayonnaise for a double flavor experience. I also tried the A5 rank black wagyu beef carpaccio, which is best enjoyed as is first to taste the original flavor of the beef, then crack the yolk and enjoy it for another unique flavor. *Please note that the black wagyu beef may be from Hokkaido when you visit. Lastly, I had the Nagasaki Sara Udon as a finishing touch, which was a perfect match of crispy noodles with a thick and creamy sauce made with Chinese cabbage, leeks, carrots, bean sprouts, shrimp, squid, and a delicious broth. The drink choices included Kumamoto's barley shochu "Dogyan" and Beam highball. I enjoyed the Kumamoto barley shochu "Dogyan" with hot water, which has a strong and unique flavor that you won't forget. The restaurant is named "Kyushu Kura (KUSUZO)" as it offers Kyushu cuisine and drinks. It opens early (from 3 pm), making it a great choice for those who want to start drinking early. Plus, its proximity to the station is also a great attraction.

Today, we went drinking in Ueno! The restaurant we reserved is conveniently located near JR and Ginza Line. We tried: - Firefly squid marinated in vinegar Although I wanted to try the "sumo" that I've never had before because it has "Kyushu" in its name (I was curious because the word "sumo" also appeared in episode 10 of the drama "Mystery"), unfortunately it was sold out, so we had this instead. Not visually appealing but delicious. - Takoyaki gratin A menu item I've never seen before! Takoyaki topped with white sauce and plenty of cheese. It's junk food but tasty and quite filling. As a cheese lover, I wish it would become more popular. - Horse sashimi (marbled) I was debating between this and yukhoe, but I didn't have high expectations for this one (lol) and it turned out to be very delicious! - Hakata dumplings I thought there were 4 jumbo dumplings under the wings, but it turned out to be small dumplings clumped together (lol). Fluffy and moist with plenty of moisture. - Mentaiko rolled omelette Rich in broth and cholesterol (lol) Delicious! - Potato fries Thick and fluffy type ♡ Goes well with ketchup because it lacks saltiness. - Plate udon It was quite light and subtly flavored. I customized it with soy sauce and vinegar brought by request! I wish they had mustard or Worcestershire sauce too (lol). For drinks, I had bottled beer followed by plum sour. Private dining at izakayas is great because you don't have to worry about other people's conversations, and it's just relaxing. Thanks for the meal!

This is an izakaya where you can enjoy various specialties from Kyushu. It is located very close to Ueno Station, and the seating is in private rooms with sunken kotatsu tables. - Hakata Gyoza: A specialty from Fukuoka. The bite-sized dumplings are easy to eat and delicious. - Homemade Mentaiko Tamagoyaki: Another Fukuoka specialty dish made with spicy cod roe and sweet rolled omelette, creating a perfect balance of flavors. - Takoyaki Gratin: This dish has nothing to do with Kyushu, but surprisingly delicious. The combination of white sauce and cheese seems to go well with any dish. - Marbled Horse Sashimi: A specialty from Kumamoto. The marbled horse sashimi melted in the mouth with a perfect balance of fat, making it very tasty. - Fried Potatoes: Another dish unrelated to Kyushu, but the classic crinkle-cut fries were delicious. - Firefly Squid Marinated in Soy Sauce: Firefly squid is more famous in Toyama than in Kyushu, but it was a nice palate cleanser. - Nagasaki Sara Udon: The finishing dish was Nagasaki's specialty plate udon. It felt a bit heavy with the fried thin noodles, but surprisingly refreshing when drizzled with vinegar. There were also hot pot dishes like Fukuoka's Mizutaki and Motsunabe, so I would like to try them when it gets cooler.

It is conveniently located just outside the ticket gates. If you walk along the deck from the second floor of Atre at Ueno Station, you will connect to the second floor of a tenant building. Just take the elevator to the third floor to arrive. It was bustling with students enjoying the all-you-can-drink option on a weekday evening. The A5 Wagyu carpaccio was a luxurious dish that allowed you to taste the high-quality meat. The assorted horse sashimi allows you to enjoy the difference between marbled and lean meat. I had a highball, which had a perfect balance of aroma and taste, making it a great value for the drink. They also serve Hoppy black and white, which is perfect for those who enjoy drinking. All orders were placed through a tablet and the service was relatively quick and smooth. Thank you for the meal.

A tuna taste comparison is a must for tuna lovers. And then, the overflowing salmon and tuna with plenty of salmon roe. Let's switch from beer to sake now. The Japanese beef carpaccio and horse sashimi platter is amazing. I almost wanted to eat it all by myself. I should have ordered two plates each. But I didn't want to look bad by adding more later. The rolled omelet with mentaiko was also delicious. The broth was well-infused and the rolling was neat. I took a bite of the hot-off-the-grill omelet. I'm glad to be born Japanese. I was so full that we didn't end up going for hot pot. As I mentioned at the beginning, next time I will come with a few people.

Ueno Station, just a 1.2-minute walk from the Asakusa exit, is a conveniently located restaurant! The entire interior is made up of private rooms, ranging from 2-person to 10-person rooms, making it very versatile. I tried the A5 Wagyu beef carpaccio for ¥1980, and it was absolutely delicious! The thinly sliced Wagyu beef with plenty of marbling melts in your mouth, and when rolled with the homemade sweet and sour sauce, egg yolk, and green onions, it creates a truly amazing flavor. Highly recommended! The avocado with scallion salt sauce for ¥680 was creamy and the salt sauce complemented it well, making it a great appetizer to enjoy with drinks. The fried eggplant cheese bake for ¥850 had a meat sauce-like seasoning, and the melted cheese on top added a nice touch. It was a satisfying dish that kept me interested until the last bite. The grilled beef harami for ¥980 had a nice chewy texture and a flavorful pepper seasoning that really stimulated my appetite. Squeezing lemon over it added a refreshing touch. The Asakusa exit area has fewer bars compared to other exits, making it easier to find a private room when needed. Give it a try if you're in the area!

I made a reservation for the motsunabe course and went to the restaurant. The staff's explanation was lacking, their attitude was bad, and the restroom was dirty... I won't be going back. The food was decently tasty, so it's a shame. I think there is room for improvement, so I hope they make an effort. It was nice that you could smoke in a completely private room.

Today, I went drinking in Ueno and visited a restaurant I had been to once before and enjoyed - Kyushu Kura. It's a great restaurant located within a 5-minute walk from JR Ueno Station, with private rooms and smoking allowed. Here are the dishes I ordered this time: - Jidori Mizutaki (local chicken hot pot) for 1480 yen: The soup was flavorful with chicken, seasonal vegetables, and when cooked, the flavors intensified. The chicken was tender and flavorful, while the vegetables were perfectly cooked and delicious. - Octopus Karaage for 780 yen: Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with a great texture and served with mayo, it was delicious. - Domestic Cold Tofu for 420 yen: The cold tofu brought out the natural sweetness of soybeans, paired well with bonito flakes and soy sauce, and was very tasty. - Sakura Yukke for 780 yen: The sesame oil seasoned yukke was meaty and sweet, especially when mixed with egg yolk. The crispy texture of the vegetables and croutons was addictive! - Both chicken skewers were charcoal-grilled, giving them a delicious smoky flavor! The chicken thigh was juicy, and the skin was crispy, so I enjoyed the contrast in textures. Squeezing lemon over them added a different flavor and made them even more delicious! - The meat was very tender and thick! With just salt and pepper seasoning, I could fully appreciate the natural taste of the meat! - I could tell immediately that the salmon was fresh and had a firm texture! My friend found a delicious looking restaurant in Ueno for us to go to after sauna, so we decided to check it out! It's only a 3-minute walk from Ueno station! The "Kurobuta pork belly grill" for 850 yen was juicy and tender with a nice kick of salt and pepper, and squeezing lemon over it made it refreshing! The "crispy fried potatoes" for 580 yen were perfectly crunchy and seasoned just right, they went really well with drinks! The "lotus root stuffed with mentaiko" for 680 yen was a unique dish that caught our attention. The crispy coating outside and generous amount of mentaiko inside the lotus root, which had a nice crunchy texture, created a perfect balance and was very delicious! The "seared Hokkaido mackerel" for 620 yen had thick, fatty slices that were nicely seared, giving it a fragrant taste. It paired well with grated ginger and Japanese sake, making it a perfect dish to go with drinks! The spacious private rooms provided a relaxing atmosphere, and the delicious food made us very happy and satisfied. We will definitely come back again!

The last time I drank was about six months ago, right? ◆ Cucumber Pickles Just the right amount of salt in this refreshing pickled cucumber. ◆ Seasonal Five-Piece Assortment Tuna, salmon, octopus, amberjack, and scallops make up this dish. ◆ Grilled Skewers (Various Types) Liver, bonjiri (tail), tsukune (meatballs) - all ordered with sauce. When the white Hoppy set arrived in front of me, the server said, "Oh yes, there's a present for you," and handed me a small blue ball. (Huh? I wonder what's inside?) I opened it and... guess what! Inside was a super tiny white Hoppy set (Hoppy, a small beer mug, contents, a bottle opener, a table tent) ♥️ They found a gacha machine with "alcohol-related goods" and kept playing until they got the Hoppy set. I immediately took a photo of the mini Hoppy with the real Hoppy in the background. The cuteness had my excitement level through the roof! Thank you so much. This is the happiest gift I've received this year ♥️ I'll carry the mini Hoppy with me at all times and take a picture with the real Hoppy set.

A5 Wagyu beef carpaccio is delicious! When I went to Ueno, I stopped by "Kyuushu Kura Ueno Ekimae", a completely private room izakaya, for a light meal before heading home. It was conveniently located just 2-3 minutes on foot from JR Ueno Station, making it easy to access. The private rooms allowed us to enjoy our meal in a calm atmosphere despite being near the station. For drinks, I tried the "Fuzzy Navel". The "Caesar salad with onsen tamago" was fresh and the vegetables were crisp. The A5 Wagyu beef carpaccio, when mixed with the egg yolk, was deliciously creamy. The meat just melted in your mouth. I also tried the "vinegar motsu" for the first time, and it was a perfect snack to go with alcohol. The "sakura yukke" had a delightful sweetness and was absolutely delicious. The "deep-fried eggplant with cheese" was piping hot and cheesy, and very satisfying. The restaurant sources ingredients from various regions in Kyushu, which is known for its delicious produce. I found it convenient to order using the touch panel. The assorted grilled skewers were a must-have for a drinking session, with tender meat and flavorful sauce. The "camembert cheese" was also delicious, with a molten center. The "seared tuna with grated daikon and ponzu" was refreshing and the fresh tuna was irresistible. For dessert, I had the "assorted ice cream" and the parfait, which was unexpectedly gourmet for an izakaya. It was not only delicious but also visually appealing. I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and even thought about coming back for a girls' night out next time.

I visited this restaurant located a 1-minute walk from Ueno Station Asakusa Exit today! Inside the restaurant, you have to take off your shoes, creating an open and comfortable atmosphere. The seating is in private rooms with sunken kotatsu tables, making it a cozy and relaxing space. I ordered the following dishes: [Charcoal-grilled Satsuma local chicken - 880 yen] The charcoal-grilled chicken had a delicious smoky flavor and was very juicy, with crispy skin. [Takoyaki gratin - 860 yen] A creamy gratin with plenty of cheese topped with hot takoyaki - a surprisingly delicious combination! [Lotus root with mustard - 580 yen] Crispy lotus root with a good amount of spicy mustard and mayonnaise, a perfect match! [Sweet shrimp - 580 yen] The sweet shrimp was juicy and incredibly sweet, with a vibrant red color that whets your appetite. The best sweet shrimp I've had recently! [Fresh Kanpachi sashimi - 680 yen] Fresh and firm yet tender Kanpachi sashimi with a sweet taste. The presentation and taste of the dishes were excellent, allowing me to enjoy delicious Kyushu cuisine. I loved the seating and dishes, so I will definitely come back again! The atmosphere of the shop is Japanese-style. Each private room has an open space in the ceiling, so you can somewhat sense the atmosphere of the surrounding customers. The main customers seem to be groups of men and women in their 20s to 30s, mainly for gatherings like group dates or girls' nights out. Orders are placed using a tablet device. Kyushu Kura (Kusuzo) is a Kyushu cuisine izakaya that opened in December 2020, just a 1-minute walk from Ueno Station. On this day, we made a reservation for 2 people at 8:00 p.m. The interior of the restaurant has a clean and traditional Japanese style. There are about 100 seats in private rooms with tatami seating. The menu offers a wide variety of Kyushu dishes such as mentaiko dishes, basashi (horse sashimi), motsunabe (offal hot pot), and also courses with all-you-can-drink options. The dishes we ordered included: - Firefly squid (tax included: 638 yen) - Hakata gyoza (8 pieces) (tax included: 968 yen) - Homemade mentaiko tamagoyaki (tax included: 858 yen) - Deep-fried kibinago (tax included: 715 yen) - Basashi three-point platter (tax included: 1,958 yen) - A5 Wagyu sukiyaki for 2 people (tax included: 5,676 yen) - Parfait (tax included: 638 yen) - Cheesecake (tax included: 638 yen) We enjoyed a total of 8 dishes including Hakata gyoza and A5 Wagyu sukiyaki. The A5 Wagyu sukiyaki was a dish where beautifully marbled Wagyu beef was dipped in rich egg yolk, enhancing the flavor of the beef. The basashi three-point platter had a unique texture and sweet fat. Other dishes like the firefly squid and fluffy mentaiko tamagoyaki were also delicious. The staff were friendly and provided great service. If you are looking for a private izakaya near Ueno, Kyushu Kura is definitely worth considering.
