This is an izakaya in Nishi-Shinjuku that specializes in charcoal-grilled dishes. The restaurant is located a little off the main street from Ju-ni-sha Dori. Although there is a signboard visible from the street, the entrance is not directly facing the road but is located slightly inside, next to a building, almost like a parking area. Inside the restaurant, there are touch panel ticket machines on the left and right as you enter. The place is quite spacious, with a large kitchen area. There are 8 counter seats and mainly 4-person tables for seating. The lunch menu is priced at 880 yen across the board. The set meals featuring tonkatsu or hamburg are popular, but they also offer noodles like ramen and soba. An interesting aspect is that regardless of the menu you order, you can enjoy unlimited rice, curry, cabbage, kimchi, and pickles. The menu seems to vary daily, with some items pasted over on the displayed menu. On the day of the visit, the reviewer had the tonkatsu set meal priced at 880 yen. The tonkatsu was a bit small but decent for the price. Accompanied by shredded cabbage, potato salad, and a piece of broccoli, the set meal also includes an empty small dish for self-service side dishes and pickles from the buffet area. The reviewer found the tonkatsu to be homemade, with a crispy coating and a decent amount of fat in the pork loin cutlet. The sauce provided on the table was lacking in flavor, so the reviewer opted to pour curry over the tonkatsu, creating a tasty katsu curry. The curry itself was more like a roux without any additional ingredients but worked well with the tonkatsu. The reviewer also enjoyed the pickled vegetables and kimchi available for free refill. The reviewer mentioned that the air conditioning was not very effective, making the dining area quite warm. Despite this drawback, the reviewer recommended this restaurant for its generous portions, variety of dishes, and affordable price in Shinjuku.

I felt like having a quick dinner and went to Morihei, a nearby izakaya. Since it's a popular spot for salarymen, I arrived at 5:30pm before it got crowded. I ordered yakitori and other izakaya dishes. I got carried away and ordered a Mega Highball, which surprised me with its size. It was so big and heavy haha. It was a good decision to come before it got busy. Thank you for a nice meal. It was delicious!

I went to Morihei for a meeting. This place is like a holy land for salarymen, haha. They serve unlimited shredded cabbage as a complimentary dish, which is really satisfying. I feel like I always get 2-3 refills every time, haha. Recently, they started serving breakfast sets too, which is really appreciated by the locals. Thank you so much as always. It was delicious!

Lunch in the neighborhood. I went to this restaurant that I knew about but had never been to before, located in a side street. The lunch was 880 yen including tax, with 8 options to choose from. I played it safe and ordered the hamburger. It was a very "ordinary" hamburger. The restaurant is not very noticeable from the main street, but it turns out it's a very popular spot during lunchtime. The spacious restaurant with 70 seats was already 80% full when I arrived at 11:45. As I was eating, more customers started lining up, and by the time I finished around noon, there was a line outside the restaurant with about 15 people. It's amazing! I wonder what makes it so popular... The main reason is probably that for 880 yen, you can have unlimited self-service side dishes (such as kimchi and pickles), rice, and curry. I also tried the curry. There were 8 options to choose from, and people were ordering a variety of dishes. Noodle dishes seemed to be popular. The "10-piece fried chicken" was also a popular choice due to its generous portion. It's a great place to go when you want to eat until you're full. Thank you for the meal.

Lunch at a izakaya in a back alley of Nishi-Shinjuku. I chose the grilled mackerel set meal (880 yen) from the ticket machine. The mackerel was tender and flavorful. However, the portion of rice was surprisingly small for an izakaya lunch, and I think if I were in my 20s, it wouldn't have been enough.

I stopped by for a meeting on my way home from work. The atmosphere here truly feels like a sacred place for salarymen. The cheap highballs here are dangerous. It's irresistible. The izakaya is always lively and bustling, just the way it should be. The cost performance is top-notch. Thank you as always. The food was delicious!

Morihei☆Nishi-Shinjuku. Wiener Egg Set Meal... 480 yen. This restaurant is located 330 meters from Nishi-Shinjuku-Gochome Station. I came here the day after my mentor posted a review (lol). Following my mentor's lead, I tried the Wiener Egg set meal. Hmm, it's definitely a generous portion! The side dishes of kinpira gobou and natto are a plus. The soft-boiled egg was just right, which was good (although my mentor's was hard-boiled). The rice, which you can get a free refill of in a small teacup, was not bad. This place is quite a good deal. Oh, by the way, I just went to Yude Taro☆Shinkawa 1-chome earlier, so I only had one refill (lol).

[Breakfast Series] Please check the official website or photos for this breakfast menu (serving time: 6:30 am to 10:00 am). This place has been a long-standing favorite. I was torn between the "Udon Set Meal" and the "Natto Set Meal," but after looking at the menu photos, I decided to go with this one and ordered it from the ticket machine. - Wiener Egg Set Meal 480 yen It took quite a while for the meal to arrive, making me wonder if they had forgotten about it (see second photo). The portion of rice was on the smaller side, but the meal came with a generous serving of "4 wiener sausages," a "fried egg," and "natto." The hot wiener sausages were definitely the highlight of the meal, and with just two of them, you could easily finish a bowl of rice. Natto, fried egg, you name it, they all went well with the rice. So, I decided to go all out and enjoy everything together. Thank you for the meal. One thing that surprised me was the ticket machine that greeted me when I entered the restaurant. I had thought it was an izakaya, so I was expecting to pay at the register. It's similar to "Chuka Shokudo Ichibankan Nakano Sanmall Store" in that sense. While that store had three ticket machines with different buttons, this one had two ticket machines with the same menu, using a touch panel system instead of buttons, which allows for more flexibility without being limited by the number of buttons.

It's been a while since I went to Morihei in the neighborhood. I went with my young work colleagues to the mecca of salarymen. As expected, it was packed during the golden time. This place is really lively and vibrant, it's a great izakaya. This is how an izakaya should be. The cabbage appetizer is always good. Thank you as always. It was delicious! ^o^

There is a breakfast restaurant in Shinjuku where you can go in the morning. They offer a small ramen for 300 yen and a mackerel salt set meal for 620 yen. Breakfast is available from 6:30 to 10:00 am. You can have unlimited rice with the set meal. They also serve udon and curry. The home-cooked feel of the food is very nice.

Located slightly inside the Twelve Shrine Street, between buildings and in the valley between buildings north of Shinjuku Central Park, is an izakaya. If you head west from this street, crossing the Twelve Shrine Street, and continue down the alley, you will find a charming street lined with traditional shops on both sides. Nearby, there is a popular South Indian restaurant called "Kochin Niwa" and the well-known Hagoromo hot spring. Beyond that, you can walk to Nakano Sakaue along Yamate Street. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this izakaya started morning service about a year ago. The owner and two helpers operate the place, using a touch screen ticket machine to purchase meal tickets. I chose the "Udon set meal" (500 yen) from the 13 options available, and my meal arrived in just 6 minutes. The set meal includes white rice (free refills), natto, simmered dried daikon radish, grated yam, raw egg, and udon noodles in a clear Kansai-style broth. The broth has a slightly sweet and somewhat strong flavor from the kelp dashi. The noodles are thin with a decent chewiness. I enjoyed the meal, especially the natto rice and yam rice. The simmered dried daikon radish was perfectly seasoned. I hope they continue to thrive despite the challenges of the pandemic. I complimented the owner on the delicious meal before leaving.

I visited a udon set meal for 500 yen on a weekday after 6:30. There were no other customers before or after me. There were two staff members, both young men. The set meal included Wakame udon, rice, raw egg, natto, kinpira gobou, tororo, and pickled cucumber. Having a variety of dishes makes the meal more enjoyable.

This time I had the hamburger steak! Despite its appearance, it was quite substantial. I was thinking of getting a rice refill and maybe even adding curry, but the hamburger set alone was enough to fill me up. I checked out the refill corner, where you can get unlimited shredded cabbage, kimchi, rice, curry, etc. There is also warm tea available beside it. For 880 yen, the quality is amazing. However, I wouldn't really recommend the hamburger steak as a menu choice. I preferred the tantanmen I had last time... It may be a matter of personal preference, but the minced meat was really... well, minced, and it felt like it was clumped together and hard. I wouldn't change my rating, but personally, I think it's better to order something other than the hamburger steak!!

Once you enter, you can decide on your order at the ticket machine. It was convenient that the ticket machine accepted 10,000 yen bills. However, it seems that they only accept cash. This time, I ordered the soup-less tantanmen for 880 yen. It was surprising that you could have unlimited rice, miso soup, salad, etc. Other menu items are mostly under 1,000 yen. It's quite impressive. Even without getting seconds, I was already full. This place offers great value for the price in Shinjuku. The tantanmen had a strong punch with the numbing sensation of the Sichuan peppercorns. The service is quick, making it a great ally for people working nearby. Around noon, there was already a line forming with people working in the area. It's clear that this place is popular. They also offer takeout, and I saw some people waiting for their bento boxes separately. With a wide variety of menu items, I would like to try a different dish next time. Thank you for the meal!

The skewers are a bit expensive at 198 yen each, but all of them have a rich flavor and are delicious. The cabbage appetizer with garlic is addictive and you can eat it endlessly. The garlic fried rice is also addictive with its delicious taste. You can have a set meal for 700 yen. The highball drink is a good deal at 198 yen. Overall, the cost performance is great and it is a very convenient restaurant to visit! Thank you for the meal!

I discovered the strongest restaurant hidden quietly in this place. They serve set meals from 6:30 in the morning, and delicious yakitori at night. The black ramen set meal costs 650 yen and comes with black soy sauce ramen, rice, natto, sautéed burdock, egg, and pickles for this price. It is truly the best. The ramen is slightly sweet with a rich flavor, perfect for the morning. Thank you for the meal!

In the past, they used to serve lunch on Sundays, but now it seems they are closed on Sundays and holidays. Today, I tried noodles for the first time. They had ramen with broth, tsukemen, and maze-soba, and I chose maze-soba. I also tried the hamburger, which I had never had before. The maze-soba had a rich bonito flavor, almost like a bonito soba. The thick noodles had a great chewy texture. It was quite unique and interesting. The hamburger had a dense meaty texture with a slightly sweet Japanese-style sauce. It was also good. The all-you-can-eat cabbage, kimchi, and curry made the meal even more enjoyable. (June 2021)

In response to the state of emergency declaration, the lunch menu has expanded to include weekends. In addition, they have also started serving breakfast and dinner sets, although it is unclear if this was always available. You can now enjoy set meals anytime. For breakfast, you can have unlimited rice and miso soup refills, but this option is not available for dinner. I visited on a Sunday for lunch around 11:30 am, and there were 3 customers already there. I decided to try the fried chicken, which you can choose to have 6-10 pieces of. I chose 10 pieces. It was served in just over 5 minutes. The fried chicken was slightly small but the portion size was generous with 10 pieces. The flavor was mild but it was textbook fried chicken! The curry and kimchi were of the same quality as before. They also offer a variety of salad dressings, and I still love the Cobb dressing. (February 2021)

A valuable restaurant where you can have breakfast from early in the morning. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, they had to shorten their hours and change their business format, so they started serving breakfast. It is quite rare to be able to enjoy a delicious breakfast at a low price. There are various toppings to choose from, making it enjoyable. I ordered the mini ramen for 250 yen, and it was piping hot and very delicious, topped with plenty of Kujo green onions. It's like a Kyoto-style ramen, light and refreshing to have in the morning. They also offer options like grilled mackerel set meal and natto set meal, perfect for a healthy breakfast balance.
