Shibuya lunch... I was thinking I wanted Japanese food, so I passed by Sushizanmai and saw they had a lunch set for just over 1,000 yen. I've been there at night before, but never for lunch, so I decided to go in. They had table and counter seats, and since I was alone, I chose the counter seat. You can watch the chef prepare the sushi right in front of you. You can also place your order directly, so it's good for those who know what they want. I decided on the lunch set "Tsubomi" for 1,078 yen, which came with chawanmushi and miso soup. The chawanmushi with shiitake mushrooms, ginkgo nuts, and fish cake was delicious and had a gentle flavor. It was served directly from the chef at the counter. The set included tuna, yellowtail, salmon, squid, swordfish marinated in soy sauce, rolled omelette, shrimp, salmon roe, sandfish, and rolled kanpyo. The miso soup had seaweed in it. The sushi pieces were quite thick and satisfying to eat. The shrimp and salmon roe were particularly delicious, but overall all the sushi was tasty. The rice portions seemed slightly larger too. For just over 1,000 yen, it was a great deal! They also had other lunch options like Tekka-don or pickled fish bowl for 748 yen (tax included) with no chawanmushi but with miso soup. If you're still hungry, they also have a lunch menu for 1.5 people. You can choose to have wasabi or not, and you can also order individual pieces of sushi outside of the set menu. There were families dining there too. It seems like a good place for a casual lunch. Unfortunately, they only accepted electronic money like ID for payment, so I had to pay with cash. It's been a while since I paid with cash in Shibuya! I wish they would accept e-wallets like PayPay.
