I went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building to meet a friend. While there, I decided to visit the cafeteria. I chose the Yokohama specialty Sanma ramen. The taste was delicious, slightly better than your average ramen shop. It cost 590 yen. However, the other menu items were on par with a regular restaurant. I felt that it was okay to eat here if you have other business in the building, but coming here just for the food might be a bit underwhelming. Making a reservation to visit the building is easy to do online, so I recommend doing that in advance for a smooth experience!

I had the opportunity to visit the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, which I had never climbed before, and decided to have lunch as well. Since the 32nd floor cafeteria was crowded, I went to the 4th floor cafeteria instead. It was past 1 pm when I arrived, so most of the items were sold out. I reluctantly ordered the cold tomato pasta with shrimp and avocado. The pasta was so yellow that I thought it was Chinese noodles, and it was cold with a good texture. The tomato sauce was delicious as well. The amount of shrimp and avocado was more than I expected, and I was satisfied. If I have the chance to go again, I would like to try the set meal next time.

I visited around 11:30 on a regular day. I went through the procedures on the first floor and got a card, then made my way to the cafeteria. It was very spacious with plenty of seating. The menu was different on the north and south sides, so I wandered around before finally deciding on the pork shabu salad. I took my ticket to the counter with the corresponding number, exchanged it for my food, and then made myself some cold green tea at the free tea machine. The pork shabu salad had slices of pork on top of the salad, which was a good mix of bean sprouts and other vegetables. It wasn't too flavorful but made for a satisfying dish. The miso soup was tasty and the rice was average. The prices were not extremely cheap but still reasonable. Since the portion wasn't big, I also bought a red tea croissant at the counter and enjoyed it. The croissant had a strong red tea flavor and was delicious. I left feeling satisfied, although it wasn't exactly cheap in the end.

Visit on 7/26 (Wednesday) around 11:45. Getting in was quite a process. On the 2nd floor, visitors had to fill out their name and phone number on a machine to receive an entry pass. With the entry pass in hand, I went to the reception to borrow an IC card. Using the IC card, I passed through the gate and went to the 4th floor. The cafeteria was very spacious, with around 400 seats or more. I arrived around 11:50 and there was no line at the ticket machine. Since different ticket machines were used for different menu items, I asked the cafeteria staff for guidance. I ordered the beef (Tokyo-produced) stew set meal (700 yen) which included stew, rice, miso soup, and pickles. It felt like a company or school cafeteria. The prices were not particularly cheap, but they emphasized the use of local Tokyo produce in the menu. As it approached 12 o'clock while I was eating, a line started forming at the counter to exchange meal tickets. It seemed that the peak time was between 12-1. Overall, it wasn't exceptionally cheap or delicious, but it was an interesting social observation. Thank you for the meal.

Shinjuku, Tokyo. This is a cafeteria located on the 4th floor of the second main building of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. It is operated by the Tokyo Manpower Support Foundation. The nearest station is Tochomae Station on the Toei Oedo Line. The taste and portion size are average, but it is very convenient to use. After finishing business at the government building, I went here for lunch. By the way, to enter the cafeteria, you need to go through the entrance procedures on the 1st or 2nd floor of the building (get an access pass issued). It's just past 11 o'clock and it's still not crowded. In the front center, there is a cafe, and the kitchen and seating areas are to the north and south. There are a total of 776 seats, so it's quite spacious. Compared to the cafeteria on the 32nd floor of the first main building, the view is not as good since it's on the 4th floor. There are ticket machines and it's self-service. Today's order: "Yokohama specialty Sanma-men for 590 yen." I selected the daily special "SP Ramen" on the ticket machine number 10 on the north side. This day's special was the Yokohama specialty "Sanma-men." The noodles and soup were average, but the toppings were a bit lacking. Well, that's how it goes. I wanted to have the "Ajisen Ramen" Kumamoto Tonkotsu Ajisen Ramen that I had two days ago. Next time, I'll try the "Tocho Ramen" at the staff cafeteria on the 32nd floor of the first main building.

It's been a while since I visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building, so I decided to have lunch at the staff cafeteria on the 4th floor of the second main building! It's pretty empty here, as expected (lol). Staff members can't really have early lunches, right? I noticed a sign for Go Go Curry next to the menu! Can you actually get Go Go Curry here? The Go Go Katsu Curry is ¥690, which seems a bit pricey, doesn't it? I ordered it from the ticket machine and picked up my curry at window number 7. The view isn't great since it's on the 4th floor, but the curry looks good. It comes with four thick pieces of pork cutlet in black curry. The spoon provided is not ideal for eating the cabbage, so I grabbed a fork as well, which was a good decision! The curry is quite spicy, and I ended up sweating a bit.

The staff cafeteria on the 4th floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 2 is a calm place where you can have lunch. For general public use, the cafeteria on the 32nd floor with a great view is usually recommended, but the 4th floor cafeteria is also open to the public! Since it is on the 4th floor, the view is not as good as the 32nd floor, but seats facing towards Shinjuku Station allow you to see outside. I have visited this cafeteria around 20 times. The menu options are slightly fewer than the 32nd floor, and there were times when my favorite daily special set was not available, but they also offer regular menu items and bread at the cafe corner, so I never had a hard time finding something to eat. Just like the 32nd floor cafeteria, you can check the weekly menu on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building staff cafeteria official website. The 4th floor cafeteria is less crowded, but there can still be lines when purchasing food between 12:00 and 12:30. You will need to go through the entry procedures on the 1st or 2nd floor of the building, just like when using the 32nd floor cafeteria. It may be smoother if you obtain a QR code in advance from the web visitor reception. By the way, the first and second buildings (from Tochomae Station) are connected by a corridor on the 3rd floor, so you can access either building from there. Detailed reviews and menus are available on my blog at https://gokigenbiyori.com/ or by searching for "[Shinjuku Gourmet Gokigen]" on the internet.

I went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observation Deck for the first time in about 8 years and found that it had changed quite a bit due to renovations. The space was clean and spacious, and there were a few foreign tourists around. It was moderately crowded. Since it was past lunchtime, I decided to have lunch at the government building cafeteria. I had Kitsune Udon, which was just a regular udon. The broth was Kanto-style and on the richer side, with two pieces of fried tofu that soaked up the broth well. The noodles were smooth and easy to eat. Thank you for the meal!

This is a cafeteria located on the 4th floor of the second main building of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The restaurant is inside the building, so you need to complete procedures on the 1st floor and receive a pass before you can use it. It is operated by AIM Services, a major player in the food service industry. Inside, there is a café corner, a menu board, and a ticket vending machine in the central area of the building. You buy a meal ticket here and pick up your food at the designated counter. The menu includes around 10 items, categorized into genres like "Noodle Dishes," "Healthy," and "Curry," with daily rotating options. The prices range from 700 to 800 yen for a set meal, which is relatively high for an employee cafeteria, but still cheaper compared to nearby restaurants. There are plenty of seats available, but it gets crowded around noon, so it's best to avoid peak hours if you're a general customer. I tried the "Pork Curry with Lots of Vegetables" (640 yen). The dish was carefully presented, which took some time. The portion of rice was decent, and the curry was packed with various vegetables as the name suggests. It had a homely taste, focusing more on nutrition than flavor. The curry included onions, carrots, and potatoes, along with broccoli and half a boiled egg as toppings for a good balance of appearance and nutrients. The thinly sliced pork belly was generous in portion, giving a fulfilling impression. It wasn't spicy, more like the taste of Japanese curry. Despite the abundance of meat, the flavor was solid, so it didn't feel lacking. The red-colored Fukujinzuke (pickled vegetables) was a standard accompaniment. Overall, it felt like a reliable employee cafeteria, suitable for those looking to maintain a healthy diet rather than tourists visiting the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.

The lord of the capital in the Reiwa era, Yuriko Koike. The empress who rules the capital has a dining room on the 4th floor of her residence. The ramen served here is said to be carefully selected by Yuriko Koike herself, who personally went to the local area to choose the noodles, soup, and ingredients, created a recipe, and invited the strongest chefs known as top-class chefs to prepare it using legendary cooking utensils. I'm too tired to write a detailed review, but the wontons were soft, sprinkled with fish powder, and were quite well-made. I forgot the name of the menu, but I think it was something like Special Wonton Ramen.

I had breakfast at the cafeteria in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. I bought an onigiri from a cafe called AIM Service on the 4th floor of the second government building. They are running a special onigiri cafe promotion until November 9th. The onigiri options include pickled plum, cod roe, and mixed ingredients, priced between 120-130 yen, which is quite reasonable. They are freshly made on site and have a moist texture with generous fillings inside. The rice used is a variety called Kinuhikari produced locally, in line with the promotion of using local ingredients. It had been a few years since I last visited the government building's cafeteria, and I noticed that the layout had changed to a more modern and sophisticated design, similar to the cafeteria in the main building.

I entered the restaurant around 1:10 PM on September 29, 2022. I had some business at the second Tokyo Metropolitan Government building, so I parked my car in the underground parking lot. Feeling hungry, I searched for "lunch under 1000 yen" from my current location. I came across a tonkatsu restaurant, but it seemed like it would take too long, so I decided to go to the staff cafeteria in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building instead. I didn't realize that the cafeteria on the 4th floor was different from the one with a view on the 32nd or 34th floor. I bought a zaru soba (400 yen) and curry (540 yen) from the ticket machine on the north side. The food was served quickly and was convenient for a quick meal. It's not a place for sightseeing or a special dining experience, but it's good for everyday meals. The taste was average. Overall, it was a decent meal.

The cafeteria located in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, about a 10-minute walk from JR Shinjuku Station West Exit, is on the 4th floor of the second main government building. I visited the cafeteria on this occasion. It gets very crowded with staff and visitors during lunchtime on weekdays from 11:30 to 13:00, but I visited around 13:30 this time. Since it was past the peak time, there were empty seats and I could relax. However, many lunch menu items were already sold out! You buy a meal ticket at the entrance, show it at the counter with the corresponding number, and they quickly prepare your food for you to pick up. I ordered the Beef Tendon Sweet and Spicy Black Curry with Onsen Egg for 690 yen and a salad (sold separately) for 130 yen, totaling 820 yen including tax. For the salad, you can choose from three types of dressings - French, Chinese-style, or Japanese-style - and I chose the Chinese-style dressing. It had a sesame oil flavor with a Chinese soy sauce-like taste. The Beef Tendon Sweet and Spicy Black Curry was as described, with a sweet and spicy black curry sauce filled with chunks of beef tendon. The beef tendon was cut into easy-to-eat pieces and had a strong dashi flavor. The yellow saffron rice was topped with a red Fukujinzuke, making it look cute. I enjoyed mixing the onsen egg into the curry for a creamy texture. It was delicious! I visited after getting vaccinated, so I didn't feel any muscle pain in my arm during lunchtime, but my arm became stiff and sore later in the evening. The photo attached is from when I had the Hashed Beef set meal at the same cafeteria in late October 2021. I thought it was a luxurious choice for a staff cafeteria (priced at just over 800 yen). It came with side dishes and soup automatically as it was a set meal option (such as A lunch or B lunch). The Hashed Beef was also delicious and served hot. Thank you for the meal!

On this day, I had lunch on the 4th floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 2. There is also a cafeteria in the No. 1 building, but it is always crowded and there are no seats available during lunchtime, so bringing your own food is not allowed. The atmosphere in the No. 2 building is more relaxed, so I decided to eat there. I had a Tokyo-style pork bowl with plenty of vegetables and cold tofu on the side. The pork bowl cost around 800 yen, and with the side dish, it was around 1000 yen, which is similar to the market price. The taste was mild, but the dish was well-balanced and delicious. The acrylic dividers were made of Tokyo wood. It was a quiet meal enjoyed in solitude.

I had lunch at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building for the first time in a while. I was debating whether to go to the first building on the upper floors, but I decided to visit this one because I didn't feel like moving around. It was past the crowded lunch hour, so it was not crowded, but the recommended menu with good value for money was sold out. However, there were other menu items available for just a coin, so it was still a cost-effective cafeteria. I was in the mood for a set meal rather than noodles, and I found a fried oyster set meal that I liked, so I purchased it with a food ticket. The ordering counter for noodles, rice bowls, etc., was separate from the one for food tickets, and the cafeteria was quite spacious with around 800 seats, so I was able to have a leisurely lunch without feeling crowded. The fried oysters were a bit small in size, but they were juicy and delicious. After lunch, I had a coffee while relaxing for a while before leaving the cafeteria. Thank you for the meal.

I was worried about being able to enter because the Corona situation is worsening, but I was issued an entry pass and was able to enter. The line for Western food was quite long and felt too crowded, so I bought a meal ticket and lined up for curry instead. After all, curry is the best after New Year. Purchase: Special Curry ¥690. Today's special is Kanazawa curry. Taste: The curry is dark with a thick pork cutlet on top. The spiciness and cardamom aroma are delicious! I envy the Tokyo Metropolitan Government employees for eating such delicious curry. With this level of taste, I would be satisfied even without the pork cutlet. Thank you for the meal.

I had a meeting at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and decided to arrive a little early to have lunch at the staff cafeteria. I tried the daily special A lunch, which was Balsamic Pork Ginger Stir-fry (served with rice, soup, and a side dish) for 700 yen. The ginger stir-fry with balsamic vinegar had a Western twist, with crunchy onions adding a unique touch. My colleague opted for a Tom Yum Soup rice bowl, which was quite adventurous. I was expecting more traditional set meal options, but it seems like they are offering some bold choices.

Series [Let's go to a public cafeteria!] Part 6... even though the last time I wrote a blog about it was 4 years ago at the Chofu City Hall haha This time, I came to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building as a COVID-19 vaccination leader and decided to have a meal while I was there. After getting vaccinated at the main building, I moved to the second building. The employee cafeteria on the 32nd floor is where I had eaten before, so this time I went to the adjacent second building. Once you enter the second building, make sure to get a temporary pass at the touch panel by entering the necessary information and selecting the destination as the cafeteria. Even external visitors can use the cafeteria! The name of the place is "Tokyo Metropolitan Government Second Main Building Employee Cafeteria." You can check the location on Tabelog. The capacity is 776 seats, and it was spacious and not crowded when I visited. They offer not only standard menu items but also daily specials. This time, I went for the curry, as expected. The curry options included the classic "Beef Curry" for 540 yen and the daily special. After purchasing a meal ticket from the vending machine, you line up at the designated lanes to receive your food and then take a seat. I ordered the "Grilled Tomato and Cheese Summer Vegetable Curry" for 640 yen. In the employee cafeteria, 640 yen is considered a premium menu item! The curry with minced meat is the essence of a public cafeteria curry, and that's what makes it so good! While curries elsewhere may be delicious, don't you have a soft spot for this type of curry that you've liked since you were a child? This curry, packed with summer vegetables like pumpkin, eggplant, and okra, is a nutritious and outstanding curry rice! Noteworthy is the thick slice of tomato on top. The juicy acidity and sweetness of the tomato add a summery touch to the curry. I was quite hungry, so I finished it all in no time. The employee cafeteria is only open on weekdays, but if you ever find yourself at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, consider adding it to your lunch options! Thank you for the meal.

I was taking a walk around Shinjuku as usual. It was almost lunchtime, so I was looking for a place to eat! But wait!! My wallet is missing from my bag (T_T) I must have left it in my old bag that I used until yesterday (´༎ຶོρ༎ຶོ`) Sometimes it happens, right? (Or is it just me...) However, after searching thoroughly, I found 500 yen in a small pocket of my bag! Can I eat with this money? ((((;゚Д゚))))))) Nervously, I clenched the 500 yen coin and headed to the staff cafeteria in front of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 2. I remembered that there was a 500 yen lunch there... When I looked at the showcase, sure enough, there was a 500 yen lunch available! My stomach was growling... I quickly went to buy a meal ticket, and then I saw a sign that read "39 Curry"... Surprisingly, you could have curry for 390 yen! And I would get 110 yen back as change! For me right now, this is the best thing ever ╰(*´︶`*)╯ Without hesitation, I ordered the "39 Curry." I handed the meal ticket to the staff, and in about a minute, the curry arrived. The Fukujinzuke (pickles) was added by the staff, the curry was thin, and thankfully, there was a piece of fried fish on top ♬ The spiciness was medium, with a hint of onions in the roux, but unfortunately, the fried fish didn't have a crispy texture. I can't be too picky, but the curry lacked the depth of spices and tasted somewhat like a retort curry. However, for 390 yen, being able to have curry in Nishi-Shinjuku is quite a deal. Thank you for the meal. [Other Information] - Procedure to enter the cafeteria: 1. Complete the entrance procedures on the 1st floor (just check your name, phone number, and mark for the cafeteria). 2. Take the elevator to the 4th floor. 3. Purchase a meal ticket from the ticket vending machine. 4. Line up at the lane with the number written on your meal ticket. 5. Once your meal is ready, it's open seating, so feel free to sit wherever you like! - 39 Curry is available on August 9th and 23rd. - Alcohol can be served from 5:00 pm onwards. It seems that the general public can also use the cafeteria. *Note: According to the staff, entry procedures must be completed by 6:45 pm. Please be aware of this!

I came to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building after a long time. The security has improved significantly compared to the past, but it's okay! There is even a section for dining destinations (laughs). The cafeteria on the 4th floor of the second main building. The catering company seems to change frequently. As of September 2018, the cafeteria in the first main building is closed. Lunchtime here is from 11:30, but there is already a line at the ticket machine by 11:10. The ticket machine opens at 11:20! Everyone seems to know about it! I was drawn to the one-coin options with delicious-looking samples, but I decided on the Hokkaido specialty, Escalope for ¥690. I selected the Western food C option at the ticket machine, lined up at the Western food section, received my meal, and headed to the cafeteria. It came with rice pilaf topped with a cutlet and demi-glace sauce, macaroni salad, and consomme soup. The cutlet was thick but tough. I am planning to visit Hokkaido next month. It seems to be challenging there currently, but going and spending money is also a form of support.
