I was unsure of what to get as a local souvenir for my gourmet customers, but since they are mostly young female employees, I decided on a box of assorted baked goods from West. While I was at it, I also bought a pack of 5 leaf pies for myself. I've always thought that leaf pies are a classic choice from West, and it's been about 30 years since I first tried them. I might have eaten around 100 of them by now. It's been a while since I last bought them, but they are still delicious as ever. Leaf pies are always well-received by anyone you give them to. The sugar is crunchy and they are truly delicious. I've tried all the different cookies they offer, but if I were to buy some for myself, it would definitely be leaf pies. By the way, my customers were very pleased with the gift.

I received a gift of apology sweets, but I'm still angry. I think they probably sent someone else to buy it, and they chose something cheap. I'm not forgiving them at all. If they think they can be forgiven with a gift of sweets, they're wrong. I'm so angry that I inherited this trait. When it comes to apology sweets, it has to be Toraya's yokan. I've heard that red beans have a purifying effect, so if it was a company, they would buy yokan in a cedar box. They're underestimating me. It's not that I want yokan or anything specific. If they really wanted to apologize, they should include 100,000 yen worth of department store gift vouchers. "Use this 100,000 yen to buy whatever you like." If they said that, I think I would forgive them, because anger can be offset with money, but a 3,000 yen gift of sweets won't cut it. Don't be stingy with your apologies. This is just my personal opinion. If you don't want to have to worry about things like this, live in a way that you don't have to apologize. Will my anger subside if I eat these sweets? It includes Leaf Pie and Victoria. Leaf Pie: Made with fresh butter and wheat flour dough folded into 256 layers using raw milk from the Tohoku region, each one is shaped like a leaf by hand by craftsmen. It has a crispy pie texture and a characteristic crunch of white granulated sugar. 5 pieces in a bag (individually wrapped) ¥756 (tax included) Specific ingredients: wheat, milk, eggs Calories: 69.8kcal, Protein: 0.6g, Fat: 4.0g, Carbohydrates: 8.0g, Salt equivalent: 0.09g/piece (this is a guide) Victoria: A best-selling dry cake series that features a combination of cookie dough and cake dough. Sometimes I crave West's dry cakes. This review is the first time my family asked me to buy a gift for them, so I recommended the West's set. I decided to send some as gifts and also ordered some for myself, two each on two separate occasions (lol). This review summarizes both occasions. I have been receiving gifts from here for a long time, and I often purchase sablé sets and dry cakes for myself. The paper bags from here are stylish and sturdy, which has been popular for a long time. Now they seem thinner, with a noticeable change. The paper bags are appropriately sized for each product, with one bag per item. They align with SDGs. Now, for the first time, I tried the Macadamia Nut and Strawberry Jam Victoria on the first occasion, and Salt Cookie and Walnut on the second occasion. My favorite is the Macadamia Nut. It has a soft texture that crumbles easily, with a buttery flavor and a gentle Macadamia Nut taste. It tastes just like before, although it may have become a bit firmer. The Victoria is not something I would choose for myself, but it turned out to be elegant in sweetness, lacking the typical tartness and acidity of strawberry, with a moist sponge inside. It's easy to eat. The Walnut is another favorite of mine. The cocoa-flavored dough was slightly harder this time, with a mature taste, and the soft Walnuts were delicious. The Salt Cookie is probably a first for me. It has a hard texture, with a high-quality saltiness hitting the gums and tongue on the first bite, followed by a hint of sweetness and flavor. It's on the harder side. After the meal, I shared the Macadamia and Walnut with my family as gifts. They seem a bit firmer than they used to be, back when they used to break easily. I wonder if they were provided at a lower cost back then? Come to think of it, I haven't seen those kinds of products around lately. Although I don't have specific memories associated with these old-fashioned sweets, the light melting sensation feels rich. I prefer the Sablé and dry cakes like Macadamia and Walnut over the shop's recommended Leaf Buy. I really love them. Currently, they are only available in Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Saitama, recommended as a Tokyo souvenir. The website offers free shipping for orders over 4000 yen until August 31st. I only realized this after placing my order (lol).

No matter what, "Leaf Pie" is famous. Recently, I have become obsessed with the world of Western sweets due to a certain event. As someone who was raised on traditional Japanese sweets, this world feels somewhat unfamiliar to me. However, I have unknowingly tasted some of these sweets before. One of them is the Leaf Pie from this store. I bought a few different items and asked the staff what sells well after the Leaf Pie. I tried the "Palmier" which reminded me of the "Sanritsu Genji Pie" from our generation. The flavor and texture are similar, with a coffee cream hidden in one of the layers. The baking is slightly strong, giving it a crunchy texture. Personally, I might like this one more than the Leaf Pie. I also tried the "Victoria," a flower-shaped tart with strawberry jam cookie in the center. The strawberry jam was delicious, but I didn't pay much attention to the pastry. Lastly, I had the "Butter Cookie," which I realized was a pack of two after starting to eat them. The cookies have a strong texture due to the use of firm flour and cashew nut crunch. Overall, they were all delicious. Thank you for the meal. (By Kyonatsu Shuukuu, 2022.6.8) (4 reviews, rating 3.05)

When looking for a souvenir to buy in Ikebukuro, it's easy to get overwhelmed by all the options in the department store basement. In the end, I decided to go with THE classic, West. This time, I chose a variety pack. There are plenty of leaf pies included, but some of the other items have fewer pieces, so eat them sooner rather than later! It's always reliable and delicious no matter when you eat it. Thank you for the meal.

This is a Western confectionery store with its main branch in Ginza. They have sales counters in department stores in Tokyo, making it a recommended souvenir for visitors. Their popular items include the "Victoria" Russian cake topped with strawberry jam and leaf pie. In October, they had a limited-time sale of mooncakes made with black sugar.

Today's cookie recommendation is from "Ginza West". These cookies are large, with a lovely nutty and buttery aroma, and a soft and crispy texture. They make a great gift and are always well-received. While they are a bit pricey at over 300 yen per piece, they are definitely worth it in terms of taste.

The boutique "Ginza West" located on the basement floor of Tobu Department Store Ikebukuro offers a selection of traditional and high-quality products. The display in the showcase, the variety of items, and the excellent customer service provided by the staff are all top-notch. Today, I purchased the boxed "Leaf Pie" as a souvenir and the individually sold "Victoria" and "Almond Tart" dry cakes for home consumption. Once you taste the dry cakes here, you won't be able to go back to other stores. The ingredients and manufacturing process are superb, and both the taste and appearance are very satisfying. Delicious! At Ueno Matsuzakaya, they have a great selection of items like the "Panda Soft Tart" that are tailored to the local area. In Tobu Ikebukuro, they are also selling "Mooncakes" this autumn, just like they did last year. From 2015 to 2018, they had a branch in Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island, where they sold mooncakes with a blend of Japanese and Chinese flavors using the famous Enseki main store's sweet bean paste. I was moved by the reissued mooncakes last autumn. I am looking forward to next month. Thank you for the delicious treats!
