In Kawabata Shotengai, Kawabata Zenzai Hiroba is a popular spot to enjoy shaved ice on hot summer days. The combination of finely shaved ice and sweet red bean paste is excellent and helps to cool you down instantly. The hot zenzai is also delicious and perfect for alternating bites on a hot day.

In the Kawabata Zenzai Plaza located in the Nakasu Kawabata shopping street, I visited for the first time as I never pass by during the day. Inside, there were decorative mountains for some reason. I purchased a food ticket from the vending machine before telling the lady what I wanted. Tea and water are self-service. On this day, I had the Ice Zenzai with Matcha for 650 yen. The Ice Zenzai was ready quickly, but the warm Zenzai seemed to take a while. It had chilled Zenzai at the bottom, topped with ice and plenty of matcha and honey. It was sweeter than expected. Sharing one between two people seemed just right. The atmosphere of the shop felt like the ladies were running a bazaar.

I was underestimating it at first, thinking "Is this just a store that sells only zenzai?" when I saw the exterior. What came out was a simple zenzai. And it even had pickled radish on the side. As someone from Kanto, I was like "huh?" But when I took a bite, I was surprised - it was delicious! And then my mouth felt a bit too sweet, but when I chewed on the pickled radish, it balanced everything out. This is what you call exquisite. I was deceived by the appearance (laughs).

This is a zenzai shop located in Nakasu Kawabata Shotengai. You can enjoy zenzai while looking at the river outside and the decorative yamakasa used in Hakata festivals, feeling the atmosphere of Hakata. Purchase a food ticket, serve yourself tea, and sit down. There were mostly tourists. The zenzai was served. It was the opposite of the modern trend of being less sweet, it was sooooo sweet (laughs). The nostalgic sweetness of the red beans and the crispy grilled mochi on the outside create a nice traditional Japanese atmosphere. It's so sweet, so I enjoyed the pickled radish next to it, which helped balance the sweetness, and then had more zenzai. This loop is nice. The weather was good, so I could enjoy the view along the river while eating. Thank you for the meal. Enjoying a sweet and comforting zenzai while feeling Hakata at Kawabata Zenzai Hiroba.

Hello everyone, what's up? It's MoriP, who loves to eat his way around Fukuoka! Today, I visited the "Kawabata Zenzai Hiroba". The zenzai here is very sweet with a thick texture. It's not as overwhelmingly sweet as the zenzai in Nakasu. The difference between these two shops is what exactly? The mochi is soft with a weak chewiness, and it stretches quite a bit! The surface has a nice crispy texture. I personally find the zenzai not too sweet, so my likelihood of returning is moderate. But if you like sweet zenzai, definitely give it a try!

Strolling around Nakasu Kawabata Shopping Street. It seems to be open only on weekends (Fri-Sun), and most of the customers are tourists. I enjoyed a warm zenzai with perfectly cooked whole red beans topped with two freshly baked mochi. The breeze from the nearby river was pleasant, and I savored the treat in a relaxed mood.

Kawabata Zenzai Plaza is located in the Kawabata shopping street in Kamikawabata-cho, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. It is known for serving the "sweetest zenzai in Japan" and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The plaza is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and during special events. They serve a delicious zenzai with mochi for 560 yen per bowl. During the summer, they also offer a shaved ice version of zenzai. The plaza has a traditional atmosphere with a display of decorative floats from the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival. It's a great place to enjoy a sweet treat while exploring the area.

While taking a stroll in Nakasu Kawabata in Hakata, I happened to notice a zenzai (sweet red bean soup with mochi) shop that I had been curious about for a while, so I casually walked in. I purchased a 500 yen zenzai ticket, handed it to the counter, and took a seat at a table. Inside the shop, there were decorations of Hakata Yamakasa festival floats, and on holidays, it is filled with tourists who have come to visit Hakata. You can hear a lot of Chinese and Korean languages as well. There is a wait of over 10 minutes for the mochi to be grilled, so it's best to hand in your ticket at the right time. The mochi is on the smaller side, but not too sweet, making it a nice snack option.

This time, I went to Kawabata Zenzai Hiroba located at 10-256 Kamikawabata-cho, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. In the evening, while walking through the cold Kawabata shopping arcade, I luckily found a seat available at Kawabata Zenzai Hiroba. I quickly decided to order by purchasing a 560 yen zenzai at the ticket machine. It came with two pieces of mochi and pickled radish, and self-serve brown rice tea. There were many overseas and out-of-town visitors around. The zenzai had just the right amount of sweetness and warmed me up nicely in this season. The mochi was a bit small, so it might be nice if you could add more mochi for an additional charge. Not sure about the best way to eat the pickled radish though. Thank you for the meal.

This is a shop in the Nakasu Kawabata shopping street where you can enjoy a refined sweetness in their zenzai. This time, the shop was full so I got it to go. I purchased a meal ticket and handed it to the staff at the entrance to receive the product. Enjoying the sweetest zenzai at home... just like in the shop, with pickled radish on the side... all my fatigue disappeared! Next time, I want to take my time and eat it inside the shop!

A scorching hell with temperatures over 35 degrees. I couldn't help but enter the shop as I passed by. I ordered the shaved ice with sweet red beans and matcha syrup for 450 yen. In a time where shaved ice over 1000 yen is common, this cheap and delicious shaved ice was a pleasant surprise. The shop had a cool atmosphere along the river with decorations like the Hakata Yamakasa festival. Thank you for the meal!

When I went for a walk to Nakasu on the first day of the festival, I found a performance stage set up above the river, with a large crowd of tourists filling the shops. I bought a meal ticket from a vending machine and handed it to the ladies making the sweet red bean soup, and within about 5 minutes, they called my name to pick it up. The sweet red bean soup was very sweet and just to my liking, but I was disappointed by the small size of the rice cakes inside.

Visited Ichikawabata Zenzai today... Maybe I came here about 40 years ago lol. It's Thursday, lunchtime, but they're open because it's Setsubun, lucky me. Oh my goodness, it's sooo sweet. I knew it would be sweet, but this is intense. Thanks for the meal. Wonder if I'll be able to work this afternoon lol.

Kawabata Zenza Hiroba Square? I thought it was a square, and it really was a square, haha. I was debating between Chushu Zenza and this place, but on Sundays, only this place is open, so it was a natural choice. An old lady makes Zenza at the entrance. Even if you didn't plan on eating, you'll be drawn in. It's amazing to eat Zenza while looking up at the Gion Festival floats on display. I wonder who came up with that idea. Kishiden Shrine is also nearby, so it might be a popular course for tourists. Normally, the mochi is small and a bit lonely, but there are plenty of things to eat, so it's just the right size for travelers. It warms you up with warm Zenza in the cold weather.

I went to try my favorite zenzai and it was really good! The atmosphere in the square was very nostalgic and nice. The zenzai wasn't too sweet and had a light taste, which made it easy to eat. It was my first time having pickles as a side dish with zenzai, so it was a fresh experience! Thank you for the meal.

I remembered my visit during the New Year, so I decided to post about it. I had seen it on TV a few times, but this was my first visit in 2022. It was almost full because of the New Year, but luckily there was an empty table near the front, so I was able to sit down easily. I purchased a meal ticket and handed it to the lady at the counter, waiting for my number to be called. I think it was 500 yen for one bowl. The zenzai that was brought to me had two small mochi balls in a red bean soup with plenty of beans. In today's world where things are less sweet, I enjoyed the nostalgic sweetness of the zenzai.

On this day, I casually stopped by "Kawabata Zenzai Hiroba" in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City.
◇Exterior and Interior
Located in the Shimo Kawabata shopping street, this place sells zenzai. Inside, there is a decorative mountain with simple seating around it.
◇Seating
They have seating available for dining in.
◇Menu Structure
Zenzai is sold in bags, but if you want to eat it inside, they provide warm zenzai. The order I placed was as follows:
- Kawabata Zenzai (500 yen) → Tax included. This time, I took it to go. I planned to eat it at home the next day. The cooking process is written on the back. You can also use a microwave, but I used a hot water bath and toaster. The zenzai turned out well, with a standard taste. Personally, I prefer it a bit sweeter, but this one was quite restrained. However, if they sell zenzai sets regardless of the season, that might be a bit nice. Overall, the price is alright.
◆Strong Points
Enjoying zenzai in a nostalgic shopping street.
◆Service
Average.
◆Summary
Eating zenzai on-site is better than at home. And it might be even more delicious if you're slightly tipsy. Thank you for the meal.

There is a famous zenzai stall located in a square that leads to the Nakagawa riverside road from Kawabata Shopping Street. It operates more like a food stall where you buy a ticket from a machine, wait for your order to be ready, and then pick it up when your number is called. It's like a food court system with only zenzai on the menu, priced at 500 yen per bowl with two small grilled mochi inside. The zenzai is extremely sweet, perhaps the sweetest you'll ever taste. I wonder who made it famous? Maybe it was Eikichi Yazawa like with Karo no Udon. It's not a particularly special zenzai, but it's definitely worth a try. Additionally, there is a large decorative float for the Yamakasa festival displayed in the same space, which adds to the charm for tourists.

I visited the "Kawabata Zenzai Square" in Hakata. I had a bowl of zenzai for 500 yen (tax included). It was a traditional zenzai with plenty of red beans. It also came with two round mochi with a slightly burnt flavor. I ate it mostly outside, although there was a roof overhead. It was cold outside, so it warmed me up. Thank you for the meal.

I originally planned to eat zenzai, but when I saw the shaved ice, I felt like having it instead. Maybe I should have stuck with the zenzai after all. This place is located along the riverbank from Kawabata Shopping Street, with a nice open atmosphere. It would have been nice if they had a few more menu options though. Thank you for the meal.
