In Universal City, there is an udon restaurant called Kineya, which seems to be a self-service udon brand. The udon noodles are slightly less firm compared to Marugame Seimen. The broth is said to be Kansai-style, but the flavor of bonito broth is too strong for my liking. In this genre of large self-service udon chains, Marugame Seimen tends to be the benchmark. So, when compared to that, I would say if you have an annual pass for USJ and want to have a quick and cheap lunch, then it's worth considering.

This is an udon restaurant located outside of Universal Studios Japan, in an area that looks like a cityscape. It's called Universal City Walk. It was convenient to just walk in and order. I brought my tray to the counter, placed my order, and received my food right away. You can also add tempura or other items you want. You can also add extra soup. You can also add tenkasu (tempura crumbs). The flavor is a bit lighter than in the Kanto region. It was delicious!

During a break between my plans at the next station, I quickly went into Kineya for lunch. I ordered Sanuki udon, but the noodles were too soft for my liking. The broth was good, but overall, it didn't quite meet my expectations. It might not leave a good impression on tourists who think this is "Osaka udon."

It was cold that day, so I chose warm bukkake udon with a soft-boiled egg. I also ordered eggplant tempura. The udon was a bit soft for my liking. I went to Kineya, a udon restaurant that has branches nationwide but originated in Osaka. The broth is also in the Kansai style. The restaurant has an American-style interior to match USJ. In addition to udon, they also offer onigiri and tempura, but I opted for kake udon. The kake udon costs 430 yen and the broth is self-service. The tempura bits are also self-service. The udon noodles were soft but had a gentle flavor, making it a good choice for breakfast.

On Saturday night, I had some errands to run at Universal City Walk, so I visited "Kineya Mugimaru Osaka Universal City Walk Store". The atmosphere inside the restaurant was not typical of an udon shop. I ordered a bukkake-style udon and chikuwa tempura. I slurped up the noodles eagerly. The taste was typical of Mugimaru. I hope to visit Universal City Walk again next time I have the chance.

So, there's a self-service udon restaurant called "Kineya Mugimaru" in Universal City Walk Osaka! It's located next to the escalator on the way to the station from Universal Studios. Many people seem to have the same idea, as it was quite crowded. The menu has various options, but I opted for Kitsune Udon for something light, and my daughter had Kama Tamago Udon. First, you order at the counter. The udon comes in a bowl. Then, you move along the counter to pick your tempura. I was tempted by Chikuwa Tempura and Ebi Tempura, but I resisted thinking about my stomach. Instead of Chicken Tempura, they had Chicken Karaage, which made me wonder. Tonkatsu or Croquette on udon? As you contemplate, you also see four types of onigiri. You make your selections and pay. There's a machine next to the counter to pour in the broth. You pour it yourself for the kake udon dishes. And next to that, there are toppings like fried tempura bits, ginger, and sauce. You customize as you like. The interior of the restaurant has a stylish feel. Even though it's not as chewy as Sanuki Udon, it's more like "udon you'd eat at home." But two bowls of udon didn't even amount to one person's lunch at Universal Studios. On a regular Saturday at 10:10, I entered the restaurant and there were not many customers yet. For breakfast, I ordered: - 2 servings of kake udon for ¥550 including tax - 2 pieces of toriten for ¥160 each including tax - 2 pieces of korokke for ¥150 each including tax - 1 serving of zaru udon for ¥450 including tax The total came to ¥1620 including tax. It's nice to have a place near Universal Studios where you can casually enjoy a meal. Thank you for the meal.

At the end of the year, the Prince and Princesses helped clean the graves, so as a reward, we went to petittravel. When asked, "Where do you want to go?" they said, "We want to go to Osaka!" So we headed straight to USJ. It was already past 1 PM, so first we ate at the Universal City Walk. The Princess wanted Udon, so we went to UDO. The interior rules were like a self-service store in Japan, but the taste was more like a US or space theme. The kids had Zaru Udon and Kitsune Udon, while I had Konbu Udon. For side dishes, we had Chikuwa and Chicken Tempura. The taste was decent, suitable for welcoming foreign guests who may not know much about Udon. Now, we're going to fully enjoy the atmosphere at Universal Studios! Off we go!

I sometimes use it on my way back from Universal Studios. It's a bit pricey, but the turnover is faster compared to other restaurants, so you can get in relatively quickly. It's easy to enter even with children. The taste is, well, just average.

Despite being the cheapest meal option near USJ, it is relatively pricey for a self-service udon restaurant. Compared to the usual Kineya udon, the noodles here are less chewy and have a smoother texture.

The udon here is still as deliciously light and refreshing as ever, even though it's served in a zaru style.
