If you've been playing at Universal Studios since morning, lunch at an on-site restaurant can be a bit extravagant! And for snacks, ice cream or churros... By the time you leave, your stomach is full and your wallet is empty. But if you don't eat anything, you'll get hungry in the middle of the night... So, there's a self-service udon restaurant called "Kineya Mugimaru" in Universal City Walk Osaka! It's located next to the escalator on the way to the station from Universal Studios. Many people seem to have the same idea, as it was quite crowded. The menu has various options, but I opted for Kitsune Udon for something light, and my daughter had Kama Tamago Udon. First, you order at the counter. The udon comes in a bowl. Then, you move along the counter to pick your tempura. I was tempted by Chikuwa Tempura and Ebi Tempura, but I resisted thinking about my stomach. Instead of Chicken Tempura, they had Chicken Karaage, which made me wonder. Tonkatsu or Croquette on udon? As you contemplate, you also see four types of onigiri. You make your selections and pay. There's a machine next to the counter to pour in the broth. You pour it yourself for the kake udon dishes. And next to that, there are toppings like fried tempura bits, ginger, and sauce. You customize as you like. The interior of the restaurant has a stylish feel. Even though it's not as chewy as Sanuki Udon, it's more like "udon you'd eat at home." But two bowls of udon didn't even amount to one person's lunch at Universal Studios. Here's the menu as of November 2020: - An Ankake Katsu Don Set 850 yen (tax included) - Kake Udon 450 yen (tax included) - Zaru Udon 410 yen (tax included) - Kama Tamago Udon 520 yen (tax included) - Kama Age Udon 450 yen (tax included) - Beef Bukkake Tororo Udon 650 yen (tax included) - Bukkake Toritama Udon 620 yen (tax included) - Beef Udon 800 yen (tax included) - Bukkake Udon 450 yen (tax included) - Kitsune Udon 520 yen (tax included) - Bukkake Onsen Tamago Udon 550 yen (tax included) - Curry Udon 570 yen (tax included) - Mentaiko Butter Udon 580 yen (tax included) - Oboro Konbu Udon 520 yen (tax included) - Oroshi Shoyu Udon 520 yen (tax included) - Beef Bukkake Udon 800 yen (tax included) Tempura: - Satsumaimo Tempura 140 yen (tax included) - Nasu Tempura 140 yen (tax included) - Chikuwa Tempura 150 yen (tax included) - Ika Tempura 160 yen (tax included) - Ebi Tempura 170 yen (tax included) - Chicken Karaage 100 yen (tax included) - Bite-sized Tonkatsu 140 yen (tax included) - Croquette 150 yen (tax included) Onigiri: - Ume, Salmon, Konbu, Mentaiko 170 yen each (tax included) For this kind of udon restaurant, the tempura and onigiri are a bit on the pricier side.
