If you walk east from Bussh Station, you will see the flag of Vietnam, indicating the location of a small shop. There are various types of Banh Mi available, but choosing the Special is a safe bet. While waiting for your order, you can enjoy a mysterious drink, possibly lemon water. The Banh Mi will be ready in about 10 minutes, and you may be asked if you like cilantro. The Special Banh Mi contains Vietnamese ham, crunchy vegetables, and cilantro, all sandwiched in a crispy, fragrant bread. It is delicious, with the spicy vegetables and cilantro adding a nice touch. Vietnamese Banh Mi is tasty! Thank you for the meal.

The pho was 950 yen, and the beef spring rolls were tasty. The coffee pho had plenty of rice noodles, but the soup was a bit lacking in quantity and too sweet. Maybe I should have just ordered a banh mi as the name suggests. The spring rolls were chewy and delicious. The Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk was not overly sweet and had a nice bitterness to it. The restaurant had plastic sheets for infection prevention between the kitchen and tables, but the small size of the place meant that the smell of frying oil lingered and it could get crowded, especially during this time. Also, having people chatting loudly at the next table was a bit distracting.

A Vietnamese sandwich and Vietnamese cuisine restaurant located in Poppo Avenue in Fushimi. It has a cozy atmosphere with a bit of history. It's different from the trendy new Banh Mi shops that have recently opened. The Asian lady running the place by herself adds to the charm. I ordered the grilled pork Banh Mi and Vietnamese coffee set. The Banh Mi had a hint of coriander, the acidity of the vegetables, the richness of the meat, and the sweetness of the sauce all combined to make it delicious. The Vietnamese coffee, with its strong aroma and condensed milk, served over ice, gave me a boost of energy when I took a sip. It was a unique find in Fushimi. Highly recommended!!

In the past two to three years, Banh Mi shops have been popping up all over the place. This is partly due to the increasing number of Vietnamese people living in the area, especially in the south from Fu-She. Recently, shops selling Vietnamese ingredients have also opened. When you think of Vietnamese cuisine, many people think of Pho and fresh spring rolls. However, those who have been to Vietnam often say that the most delicious dish is Banh Mi. Banh Mi means "bread" but also refers to a baguette sandwich. I ordered the Banh Mi with meatballs, beef Pho, and Bo Kho (beef stew) as well as a Vietnamese coffee. The Vietnamese coffee was rich and sweet with condensed milk, a combination I haven't had in a while. The Pho had a smooth rice noodle texture and flavorful broth, though the cilantro was lacking in fragrance. The Bo Kho was like a stew with a flavorful consomme-like broth. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft inside, perfect for soaking up the stew. The Banh Mi had meatballs, vegetables, and pickles, all packed into a delicious sandwich. As Subway chains are decreasing, I hope to see more of these sandwich shops. Overall, I had a simple and satisfying Vietnamese meal and look forward to trying more Vietnamese restaurants in the area.

Hello everyone in April 2020! Bánh mì is a Vietnamese sandwich. It consists of a soft French baguette about 20 centimeters long, which is sliced and filled with butter, pâté, vegetables, herbs, meat, and sauce like nước mắm. It is a popular fast food item that can be found not only at food stalls but also sold wrapped in newspaper at bus terminals as a convenient meal option. There is a small shop called "Pain Miêu Fuse" in the shopping street under the guardrails on the north side of the area from Kintetsu Fuse Station to Nagawa. They offer delicious bánh mì with plenty of coriander and vegetables, as well as tapioca milk tea. They also serve other Vietnamese dishes like pho, Vietnamese rice noodle dishes, and Vietnamese-style beef stew. I tried their takeout service today due to COVID-19 precautions, and it was delicious! I love coriander, so this was perfect for me. I look forward to trying their beef stew or pho for lunch next time. It was a great meal. Thank you!

I stopped by Bain Mee Fuse in Fuse on March 27, 2020. The shop is located under the Kintetsu railway tracks. The interior has a small Vietnamese street food stall vibe, with tables set up for dining in. However, I decided to get my order to go this time. It's rare to find a specialty shop for Vietnamese fast food like banh mi. They also offer some other Vietnamese dishes. The staff, who seemed Vietnamese, was handling everything on her own. I ordered the Banh Mi Saigon (Special) and was asked if I was okay with cilantro. I confirmed that I was fine with it. After a few minutes, my order was ready. When I got home and tried it, I found the Banh Mi to be quite filling with a large, hard bread filled with chicken, cucumber, carrot, daikon, cilantro, and seasoned with chili sauce and fish sauce. Even one was enough to satisfy me. It was a delicious Banh Mi. Thank you for the meal.

Recently, I have been seeing more Vietnamese people at the Japanese language school, convenience store, and beef bowl restaurant where I volunteer. I had a conversation with a Vietnamese person at the Japanese language school, and they mentioned that Vietnamese food is nostalgic and delicious. It seems like when Japanese people eat Japanese food abroad, it's similar to eating the same Japanese food in Japan. The restaurant I visited had 5 counter seats, 3 two-person tables, and a few people sitting on a sofa, with two women managing the place. I have tried various Vietnamese dishes like pho, banh mi, and Vietnamese coffee at different places, and the coffee at this restaurant was also authentic Vietnamese coffee. The coffee was brewed using a metal drip, and after the extraction was done, a lid was placed underneath to prevent drips. The drip was not made of paper but a metal mesh, which might allow oils to mix into the coffee. The hot coffee was poured into a glass filled with ice to make Vietnamese iced coffee, where condensed milk was placed at the bottom of the glass under the ice. As for the banh mi, it resembled French bread but had a crispy outer layer and a thin skin-like texture inside, not focusing too much on the bread itself.

I was captivated by the deliciousness of Banh Mi during my trip to Vietnam, so I visited a specialty shop in Fuse that offers authentic Banh Mi. The shop is run by Vietnamese sisters and their mother, and it opened last November. For lunch, they offer Vietnamese cuisine lunch sets, but this time I tried the rice noodle dish on its own. It was called Pho My and cost 700 yen. It consisted of rice noodles similar to somen noodles, topped with spring rolls, char siu, bean sprouts, cucumber, lettuce, and nuts. It was served with a sweet and savory sauce that you mix in. It was healthy and had a nostalgic taste. Next time, I will definitely try the Banh Mi!

▽Char Siu Banh Mi 500 yen▽ (Feb 2020)
A slightly larger French-style bread filled with char siu, coriander, pickled vegetables, carrots, and cucumbers. The Banh Mi has an Asian-inspired flavor, with the char siu, coriander, and sweet and savory sauce creating a refreshing taste. It was delicious.
▼Impressions▼ (Feb 2020)
This Vietnamese restaurant opened in November 2020 in the Popo Avenue shopping street, extending from the east side of Kintetsu Fuse Station towards Nagawa Station. As the name suggests, Banh Mi is the specialty of this restaurant, offering a variety of options for takeout or dining in. In addition to Banh Mi, they also serve dishes like beef stew and beef Pho. I tried the Banh Mi mentioned above for takeout, and the unique flavors of the vegetables and seasoning were refreshing and enjoyable. I would like to try their Pho on my next visit.

The bread dough was very delicious, but I didn't quite like the meat inside.
