The shop is conveniently located just a 1-minute walk from the station. In front of the shop, there are round chairs where about 10 people are waiting, giving it a popular feel. It seems to close at 2:30 pm on weekdays, but on weekends, they seem to stay open late, so it should be okay to go at a later time. The interior of the shop is decorated in a Chinese style (reminiscent of Chinatown), but the American 80's music playing from the radio seems mismatched. However, the food is excellent. The set of appetizers is of high quality, and the main tantan noodles are outstanding. I thought it was worth waiting in line to eat here. The weather has cooled down a bit, so I tried the spicy beef tantan noodles at Sangokushi in front of Keihan Misato Station. The beef, simmered for a whole day, was tender and the creamy soup was delicious. Not to mention, the presentation was too beautiful. I would like to try other tantan noodles as well. The toppings include minced meat, green onions, chopped white onions, and leeks. The thick and creamy soup made from chicken and pork is mixed with a moderate amount of chili oil, resulting in a rich and creamy finish with a hint of spiciness from the chili oil and the smoothness of white sesame sauce. The noodles contain whole wheat flour and have a moist and chewy texture that blends well with the soup. You can enjoy different flavors by adding black pepper, Himalayan pink salt, Sichuan peppercorns, chili oil, and vinegar provided on the side. (Recommended for the soup)

I tried the Hell Spicy Tantanmen. I usually get level 5 spiciness, but this time I wanted to enjoy more flavor without being overwhelmed by the heat, so I went with level 4. It was just the right amount of spiciness and I could still taste the delicious flavors. If you enjoy spicy food to a certain extent, level 4 is the best choice over level 5. If you're looking for a real challenge with super spicy food, then go for level 5.

The restaurant opened at 11:30 and I arrived 10 minutes early, being around the 5th group in line. Luckily, I was able to enter on the first round. I ordered the cold tantan noodles from the summer menu. I recommend upgrading to the tantan noodle set for an additional 360 yen, as it comes with side dishes and almond jelly. The almond jelly at the end was delicious. The cold noodles had a slight sourness to them, making it refreshing and light. However, since it's tantan noodles, it's quite filling. The sesame flavor was not as strong as the warm version. The oil also packs a punch, so it's not just about the spiciness. My husband had his usual hellish tantan noodles, which come in spice levels 4 and 5. He found level 5 too spicy to fully enjoy the flavor, so level 4 was just right for him. The side dishes were all deliciously seasoned, making the overall satisfaction level high. You can't go wrong with anything you order here. You're sure to get hooked.

First visit to a highly famous tantanmen restaurant in the Uji area of Kyoto. I ordered the beef spicy tantanmen and mapo tofu. It arrived in just over 10 minutes. The creamy richness of the meat was trapped within the spiciness, making it very delicious. It was a taste I had never experienced before. The mapo tofu had a rich flavor that stood out more than the spiciness.

The line wasn't too long, only about 8 people ahead, so I thought I would be seated quickly, but ended up waiting outside for almost an hour before getting in. It took another 30 minutes after buying the meal ticket for the food to arrive. I thought it was a ramen shop, but it's better to be cautious. I ordered the most popular dish, the Spicy Beef Tan Tan Noodles. The noodles were medium thickness and cooked to a slightly soft texture, the sesame-based soup was rich and delicious. The beef on top was tender and tasty. The spiciness and numbing sensation were mild, with the chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns not being too overpowering. It cost 1000 yen, which wasn't too expensive, but the portion of noodles was a bit small. I wished for more volume. The restaurant seems to have a long cooking time regardless of the line outside, so waiting is inevitable. Comparing the wait time to the food, I found the taste to be good but nothing extraordinary. I don't think I would want to wait that long to eat here again, as it was just decently delicious.

Popular restaurant in front of Sanshitsu-do Station. Arrived 10 minutes before opening and entered smoothly. It took a little time before being served. I had mapo tofu noodles, and my husband had hellishly spicy tantan noodles. As you can see in the photo, there is a lot of chili peppers! Despite being tantan noodles, there is not much broth. The spiciness is there, but the numbing sensation of the Sichuan peppercorns stands out. It's quite oily, so be careful if you have a weak stomach with spiciness and oil. The almond jelly is milky and very delicious, bringing happiness after the spiciness. It's a popular restaurant, so be prepared to wait in line.

I ordered the creamy tantan noodles because I'm not good with spiciness, and I had a little taste. It was rich and very delicious, but it still can't beat the Mapo Tofu. It's just the best! The appetizers, soup, and Mapo Tofu were all incredibly delicious. By the way, my husband took a bite of the Mapo Tofu and started sweating and tearing up, so if you're not good with spiciness, you might want to avoid it. The prices and menu were the same as my last visit. Thank you for the delicious meal.

On Wednesday at 1:30 PM, I went to "Sangokushi" in Sanjusangendo, Kyoto. It was about half full. I ordered the most popular dish, "Spicy Beef Tantanmen (1,000 yen)." It arrived in 5 minutes. Wow, what a large bowl. The first bite was delicious. The strong aroma of sesame and the thick texture were authentic. It is a triple soup made of beef, pork, and chicken. The taste is complex yet well-balanced. The noodles are medium-thick and flat, which is rare for tantanmen. They seem to simmer beef cheek meat, tendons, and Achilles tendon slowly for a day. Each tantanmen dish here is cooked in a wok, so it takes time. The owner is from a long-established Chinese restaurant in Yokohama and wanted to make authentic tantanmen. I'm not sure why they chose this location in Rokujizo, but it must be a delight for locals to enjoy the original tantanmen in this quiet area outside Kyoto's bustling streets. Thank you for the meal.

I'm not a fan of spicy food, so I ordered something with mild spiciness and it was extremely delicious. I can't believe there's such a great restaurant nearby! My friend who came with me loves spicy food and ordered something very spicy, and they said it was also amazing! Definitely going to come back again!

When I went to work in Kyo-Miyama, I visited Shin-Kara-Sho-Men in Nakatsu and since then I have been hooked on their tantanmen. I was a bit scared of the spiciness so I went for level 2 spiciness, but it wasn't spicy at all. The rich sauce made me feel like I was eating rice. As I continued eating, I noticed it was a bit persistent. I added vinegar for a change of taste and found a chili pepper soaking in it, which might be the reason why I started sweating by the time I finished, but it wasn't actually that spicy. I also added some sansho pepper midway, so I felt a numbing sensation. My companion ordered mapo tofu, and I took a bite, it was delicious, but they seemed to get a bit tired of it by the end. Overall, it was delicious.

I visited this restaurant for the first time in three years since I came here to eat mapo tofu. This time, I ordered the Spicy Beef Tantanmen (large) and Chicken Karaage Don. The Tantanmen had a rich and delicious soup with just the right amount of spiciness for me. The meat on top of the noodles was well cooked and very tasty. The Chicken Karaage Don was also delicious. I was very satisfied with the tasty Tantanmen after a long time. Next time, I would like to try a different type of Tantanmen.

I visited the restaurant around the time of the last order on Friday, so it was not crowded. I ordered the creamy tantanmen, soupless tantanmen, and appetizer set. The appetizer set is optional, but I recommend adding it because it is delicious. The food was consistently tasty, so I would like to visit again.

I visited based on a search on Tabelog. I had the tantanmen set. Even the small appetizers showed a good sense of taste. The tantanmen itself had chewy noodles that mixed well with the soup, which was not too spicy. It was a very satisfying tantanmen. There are also other types of tantanmen available, so I think it would be suitable for those who like spicy food.
