A small, cute shop located at the intersection of Shijo Street and Kiyamachi Street. It's been around for 11 years. I've always passed by it, but never noticed it until now. They serve Seigoin Yatsuhashi-inspired treats at Nikiniki. You can customize your own fresh Yatsuhashi by choosing from five flavors: Cinnamon, Rose, Azure, Matcha Green, and Sesame. You can also select fillings like Orange, Strawberry, Honey Ginger, Apple Jam, Custard, Azuki Bean Paste, Citron, and Sakura. I personally prefer the fruit fillings. The combinations are stylish and cute. The varieties change with the seasons. They don't last long, but they make great souvenirs.

I peeked inside and couldn't resist buying some seasonal sweets as souvenirs because they were too cute (*◕ᴗ◕*)♡ This time, I got cherry blossoms, spring fairy, flower fleur, and pansy, all of which are adorable ( ♥︎ᴗ♥︎ )♡♡♡ The colors are also to my liking ♡♡♡ The fairy girl is cute, but the purple pansy is also adorable (´>∀<`)♡♡ It's a recommended souvenir with a Kyoto-like vibe (●︎´∀︎`●︎)♡♡

660th sweets shop ♡ nikiniki. I bought it before and it was well received, so I bought it as a souvenir for my friends (*◕ᴗ◕*)♡ Of course, the main attraction is the limited edition autumn sweets ♡♡ Maple leaf, girl, mushroom, squirrel. I bought four of them. When they are all together, they are cute ( ♥︎ᴗ♥︎ )♡♡ It was Sunday evening, but the squirrel was the last one. I was so happy ε-(´∇`♥)♡♡ nikiniki is always well received as a souvenir (●︎´∀︎`●︎)♡ There are always a few customers waiting, but it's worth the wait (* 'ᵕ' )☆ The staff were amazing (ˊᗜˋ*)♡ Suica payment is good.

I came here wanting to try the seasonal fresh Yatsuhashi at the Yatsuhashi specialty store on Shijo Street (also available at Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit 1st floor Kyoto Omotenashi Koji), but the cute ones were sold out. They only had the chrysanthemum flavor left. Since the products have a same-day expiration date, they probably didn't stock up on too many. So, I decided to try the following: - Cale de Canele for 154 yen: A Yatsuhashi with your choice of filling, such as sweet bean paste or confit. You can take it to go, but I recommend eating in because they serve it beautifully like a flower. There are 5 types of fresh Yatsuhashi available: the usual cinnamon flavor, rose, azure, matcha, and sesame. The fillings come in 8 varieties: pear, grape, sweet potato, five grains, hojicha (roasted green tea), apple, chestnut, and red bean paste. I chose the blue fresh Yatsuhashi (cinnamon) with apple filling. The cinnamon aroma of the Yatsuhashi was delicious, and it was soft and chewy. The apple confit had a nice crunchy texture. They also had various types of harder Yatsuhashi for sale, like ones drizzled with caramel or with a crunchy chocolate topping. How about trying them as a new Kyoto souvenir? Thank you for the meal.

Before going to the cafe "Kissa Soire", I stopped by a cute shop that sells freshly made Yatsuhashi. You can choose the skin and filling to create your own original Yatsuhashi right there! I chose Azuki (cinnamon flavor) for the skin, and Matcha & Chocolate for the filling. I couldn't resist and finished it in one bite! It was delicious! 🍬🍬

On a regular day, around 4:30 PM. Not crowded. ===Specialty shop for Yatsuhashi (traditional Japanese sweet). Takeout only.===Located above ground at Hankyu Kyoto Kawaramachi Station. A small space for sweets. ===Limited variety of items. Colorful and cute products. They sell Yatsuhashi for takeout or for eating on the spot, but there is no seating area. The Yatsuhashi for eating on the spot is sold in single pieces that can be eaten in one bite. ===You can customize by choosing the skin and filling. Choose from 5 types of skin: Cinnamon, Matcha, Sesame, Rose (Pink), Azure (Light Blue). Choose from 8 types of filling: Chunky red bean paste, Strawberry, Apple, Matcha, Honey Jelly, Cinnamon, Apricot, Chocolate. You can choose up to 2 fillings. ===◆Yatsuhashi (Azure skin + Chunky red bean paste + Strawberry) 143 yen including tax. Taste ★3.6 Visual ★3.6 Delicious. It's nice to be able to customize to your liking. The slightly cinnamon-flavored skin, mildly sweet chunky red bean paste, and well-balanced strawberry without much acidity make it satisfying even though it's just one bite. ===There is no seating area, not even a place to sit, but they put it in a returnable container so you have to eat it on the spot. It's a shame that you can't eat it calmly as it's a shop on the roadside. It would be nice if they had a container that you could carry around at least. ===Thank you for the meal.

I also purchased the autumn versions of "Amabie" and "Reindeer" while passing by, as Yatsuhashi is steadily evolving. Seigoin Yatsuhashi is really impressive ♡ The store is stylish and conscious of young people. We were able to fully enjoy the season, and my son was delighted saying "it's cute" ✨

(2021/10/15: Visit) I was looking for a shop that my daughters would like, tired of the over 100-year-old traditional shops. I chose this shop and it was exactly what I was looking for - a very cute shop unlike the traditional ones I've been to before! However, upon closer inspection, I realized that this shop was also born from the long-standing Seigoin Hachimono main store established in 1689, making it the best with over 330 years of history! When I visited in the late afternoon, the showcase that would normally be vibrant was quiet. I bought the only remaining item, the "Amabie," which truly represents the current times. It was a bit hesistant to eat due to its cuteness, but I hope it will bring good fortune and enjoyed its fluffy and gentle taste of sweet bean paste.

Nikiniki is a traditional Japanese sweets shop located just a 2-3 minute walk from Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto. Situated near Shijo Ohashi Bridge, this shop offers a variety of sweets made with Yatsuhashi, a type of rice flour confectionery. As a takeout specialty store, it's perfect for those looking to enjoy Japanese sweets at home or find souvenirs. I tried their popular menu item, "balle," which features a unique flavor combination of cinnamon and lemon, along with rich sweet bean paste. The balance of flavors was surprisingly good, and the appearance of the sweets was also beautiful. This shop is great for purchasing stylish Japanese sweets that would delight any woman. I recommend paying them a visit. Thank you for the delicious treats!

When it comes to souvenirs from Kyoto, it's definitely Yatsuhashi. Over 320 years have passed since Yatsuhashi was born, and now in the Reiwa era, there are incredibly cute Yatsuhashi being sold in Kyoto. I discovered a shop where you can enjoy Yatsuhashi in a new way. I usually don't actively buy Yatsuhashi, but this one is special. I couldn't resist its cuteness. The seasonal products are always different, so I was hoping they would have carp streamers, and I was delighted to find them. I also bought a cute Amabie. Both were 324 yen each. I decided to enjoy them at home with hot green tea. The chewy texture of the dough, the sweet bean paste, and the subtle hint of cinnamon. It's elegant, well-balanced, and delicious. The cuteness is almost too much to eat, but I couldn't resist my appetite. I wonder what shape of Yatsuhashi I can buy next time. Looking forward to it. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a shop in Shijo-Kiyamachi looking for an evolved version of the traditional Kyoto sweet "Nama Yatsuhashi". The main store of Seigoin Yatsuhashi, a long-established shop, had a new brand called "Nikiniki" next to it. The shop offered various Japanese sweets, and I bought some seasonal sweets to take home. The packaging was stylish and cute, and each sweet was individually wrapped in capsules to prevent them from getting squished. The sweets had a cinnamon scent and were made with Nama Yatsuhashi dough. I tried two different sweets: one shaped like Amabie, a half-human, half-fish yokai believed to ward off epidemics, and another shaped like a woman in autumn attire sitting on a red maple leaf. Both sweets had white bean paste inside and a chewy texture. They were fun and delicious treats priced at 300 yen each.

I was interested in a shop in Kyoto. Yatsuhashi has been transformed into cute ghosts and pumpkins! The soft yatsuhashi and white bean paste of the ghost are delicious. The jack-o'-lantern was filled with red bean paste. It's also lovely to make watercolor flowers with chestnut paste. Here, there are 5 pieces of beautiful colored yatsuhashi. It's a cute size that fits in the palm of your hand. I would be happy to receive such a cute souvenir. Since the expiration date is on the day of purchase, it's a souvenir I want to give to someone I meet right after returning to Tokyo. It seems that there are various seasonal limited edition versions, so I would like to visit again (^ ^).

Whenever the seasons change, I can't resist buying the adorable seasonal-themed hachimaki from Niki Niki. They have Santa Claus for Christmas, hoko floats for the Gion Festival in summer, and other shapes that reflect the season. Regardless of the color, the hachimaki skin always has a distinct Niki flavor, with either white or red bean paste inside depending on the variety. The only downside is that they have a short shelf life, usually expiring on the day of purchase. These make perfect tea snacks for when guests from out of town visit. While I haven't tried them myself, they also sell DIY hachimaki kits where you can wrap your own bean paste. Check out their Instagram to see the latest hachimaki designs they have in store - perfect for those who love cute things!

Visuals are emphasized, making it difficult to evaluate as a dessert! It seems to have been around for quite some time, as female customers continue to visit. To be honest, compared to chocolates or macarons, it feels a bit forced. However, it seems to be a successful business. When you try it, you don't feel any excitement as a dessert because there is no texture or taste that stands out. It seems like it's made for Instagram rather than for the taste.

I received a cute and adorable hachimaki as a souvenir before. I was so impressed by its cuteness that this time I went to buy it for myself. The shapes vary depending on the season, and currently they were selling hachimaki in the shape of little people or hearts. I was torn, but I bought the heart-shaped one (486 yen). Also, I found out that they sell hachimaki for eating on the go, so I decided to try it. You can choose from 5 types of skins and 9 types of fillings. I chose matcha skin with chestnut filling. They wrapped it up quickly like a flower. So cute ♡♡ The taste was the unmistakable taste of hachimaki, and the chestnut filling was really delicious. I brought the heart-shaped hachimaki home and shared it with my family. The skin was soft, the filling not too sweet, and I felt a sense of taste beyond just cuteness. The only downside is that the expiration date is only for that day, so it might be challenging to give it as a gift. But it was so delicious and cute, it was very soothing. I will go buy some again in a different season. I bet the Christmas motifs will be adorable too ♡♡ Thank you for the meal.

The classic souvenir from Kyoto, Yatsuhashi, has recently become more stylish with a DIY wrapping option. It's a thoughtful gift idea. However, they are all overly sweet, making it difficult to distinguish the different flavors. The concept is great though, right?

Experience the beauty of Japan's four seasons with the cute and lovely Nikiniki's Senba-taishi! When it comes to Kyoto souvenirs, Senba-taishi is a classic! Unlike the typical triangular shape, the Senba-taishi here is completely different, with three-dimensional representations of people, flowers, animals, and colorful hues. With its cute appearance and innovative ideas that don't seem like traditional Japanese sweets, this Senba-taishi changes the image of traditional Senba-taishi. Although it has a shelf life of only one day and does not keep well, this Senba-taishi allows you to experience the taste of Kyoto and the beauty of Japan's four seasons! Thank you for the meal!

I happened to come across this shop while searching and had been curious about it. Seigoin Yatsuhashi Main Store is now offering a new type of Yatsuhashi. Located next to Seigoin Yatsuhashi Main Store Shijo Store, the atmosphere of the shop is like a Western confectionery or chocolate shop. I bought "hermine" and "2019". "Hermine" is a type of weasel called "Okochi". "2019" is a Yatsuhashi in the shape of this year's zodiac sign, the boar. The Yatsuhashi shaped like feet or snow is filled with red bean paste. The colors are made with artificial flavors, so there is a slight off-flavor, but the chewy texture is delicious. The expiration date is short, only until today. If you're interested, definitely give it a try!
