I went to Kyushu for work. Due to the typhoon, the Shinkansen and other trains were suspended for two days. The Shinkansen was moving slowly with multiple stops, so I decided to take a break here. I ordered using a touch panel. The menu I ordered this time included: Perfect Beer Lemon Sour, a set of 3 types of sake tasting (Tenshin from Kitakyushu City, Kubota Senju from Niigata Prefecture, Keigetsu Chokarakuchi from Kochi Prefecture), Yataikaze grilled squid, and a sashimi platter with 5 different types of fish. It wasn't too crowded, so I was able to relax and enjoy my drinks. The food was delicious, but the sake was all so good that I ended up drinking quite a bit. The service was fast and I had a great time.

I have been here a few times. I had a quick visit as I had a meeting in 30 minutes. I ordered a draft beer for 198 yen during happy hour, which was cheap. I also had 2 pieces of squid sushi, but it wasn't very tasty. Some pieces were hard. It's a good place to pass the time while waiting. Thank you for the meal.

On April 2, 2023 (Sunday), I had a solo lunch in Kokura. I had a half day off and wanted to have some lunchtime drinks, so I headed to the Sotobori Alley in Kokura. I went to "Uoemon" where the highball at lunch was only 198 yen, which is very budget-friendly for salarymen. The highball was delicious and perfect for lunchtime drinks. When I sent a photo to my partner, they responded with an angry emoji, sorry about that! The sashimi platter was delicious and the assorted sushi was also very tasty. The drinks were going down smoothly. Overall, having lunchtime drinks after work is the best. The weather was perfect with cherry blossoms in full bloom. Feeling a bit tipsy, I headed back home. Thank you for the meal!

On the first floor of Amu Plaza Kokura, there was a long line at the ramen shop I wanted to go to, so I ended up going to this place tucked away in the back. I enjoyed chicken nanban and grilled stingray with tartar sauce that had mentaiko in it, along with non-alcoholic beer.

On the first day of my Kyushu trip, the hotel front desk recommended "Sanjuppo Yokocho" on the first floor of Kokura Station for dinner. It was very convenient for travelers since it was located in the station building. The food was reasonably priced and delicious. The highlight was the "Ume Suisho", which was sour and crunchy, a new taste for me. I really enjoyed it. Thank you for the meal. Looking forward to enjoying my Kyushu trip!

Asano in Kokura Kita-ku, Kitakyushu City. A fish-centered izakaya located on the first floor of "30 Steps Alley" at Amu Plaza Kokura. The menu includes sashimi of Japanese flying squid, sesame mackerel, tempura, chicken nanban, sushi, and grilled salted bream collar, among others. Drinks are available in a variety. This time, I ordered sesame mackerel and tempura squid and corn. I chose Kirin Lager bottled beer for my drink. The sesame mackerel is a version of Fukuoka's specialty sesame mackerel. It has a sweet sesame sauce and firm mackerel. Wasabi is a must. It's delicious, but the cost-performance ratio is a bit low. The tempura squid and corn have a crispy batter. The texture and umami of the squid, as well as the texture and sweetness of the corn, are both delicious. The tempura is quite good. It is part of the San Route Group, known for the famous restaurants Kotetsu and Mozu. Thank you for the meal.

I went to a izakaya near Kokura station for lunch three times. On my third visit, I had the beef tendon stew set meal. It was cooked to perfection and very delicious as expected. The set meal also came with sashimi, making it a great choice for lunch. On my fourth visit, I tried the chicken nanban set meal again. The tartar sauce with mentaiko was irresistible. The meat was well seasoned with a sweet vinegar sauce. I also ordered a separate dish of dashimaki tamago, which was fluffy and incredibly tasty with a rich dashi flavor. I might try the dashimaki tamago set meal next time.

On the third stop of the first day in Kitakyushu, I felt like I didn't drink enough at the first place, so I decided to have a second round here. The hotel I was staying at was directly connected to Kokura Station, and this restaurant was very close by. It was located in a lively area known as "Thirty Steps Alley". I was already quite tipsy, so I don't remember what I ate or drank. I instinctively took a few photos. I think I had Suntory Midori. The restaurant had a lively and nice atmosphere.

Seafood and sushi restaurant, but sushi was sold out. You can order using a touch panel, but some items were also sold out. Tempura, croquettes, and other fried foods were hot but average. If you're okay with a lively and boozy atmosphere, then there's no problem. Overall, there wasn't anything that made me want to revisit. Thank you for the meal.

Two customers came for lunch and it was their first visit to our restaurant. They mentioned that they didn't want to stray far from the station because their time there was limited. We placed their order and they had a brief meeting. However, when I went to the smoking area and returned, they had disappeared without a trace. It was a mix of happiness and embarrassment. I ordered the grilled salted mackerel set meal for 850 yen using a tablet. You can have unlimited refills of rice and miso soup. The mackerel was a bit salty, so I ate it with grated daikon without adding anything. The sashimi of yellowtail and salmon that came with it was delicious with a good thickness. Finally, I took the tablet to the cashier to settle the bill. This restaurant has good value for money.

This is a restaurant located in Amu Plaza on the 1st floor of Kokura Station, just thirty steps away from the station. There are various beer-friendly restaurants such as Shinshin Ramen, Kushikatsu Tanaka, Gintako, Ooyama's motsunabe, and Torikawa Takenoya. I decided to try the Chicken Nanban set meal for 880 yen (tax included). The Nanban meat is made from chicken thigh and is juicy and crispy. The tartar sauce with mentaiko is a unique touch, giving a delicious sweet and spicy flavor. I was pleasantly surprised to find sashimi included as well, with tai and hamachi. The miso soup was light with plenty of wakame seaweed. It was a satisfying lunch, and I will definitely visit again.

It's a revisit. It's very convenient as it is right after leaving Kokura Station. I was thinking of having tempura, but there was a weekly special menu. I decided on the salted chicken tempura set. The large chicken tempura was topped with salt and sesame. The skin was crispy and had a nice saltiness. It was delicious. The rice went well with it. The sashimi was yellowtail and salmon. The miso soup and cold tofu completed the set nicely. It was a satisfying meal with a good portion. It made me want to have a beer.

On New Year's Eve, I rushed to the station fearing I would miss the bullet train, but surprisingly arrived early and had some time to spare. So, I decided to grab a quick drink before heading out to this place called "Kokura Station Thirty Steps Yokocho" right next to Kokura Station. It's like a street food village with various shops, not a food court, so you pay at each individual shop. There's a kushikatsu shop, ramen shop, wine bar, chicken skin shop, and more. Since it was quite crowded due to the year-end, I went to this less crowded place. It's nice that you can easily enjoy a drink and food even if you're alone. I ordered a Mega Highball, Imo Soda with Goma Saba, and grilled pork for less than 2000 yen. The charcoal-grilled pork was delicious. Looking forward to continuing my solo party on the bullet train.

I made a reservation and used the Go To Travel electronic coupon! I thought it was on the first floor of the station, but it was different, so I had to look around a bit. I ordered the seafood salad. I also had the fried dumplings with sweet vinegar. The dumplings were fried and dressed with sweet vinegar, and came with mayonnaise on the side. It was a bit spicy, but delicious. First, "30 Steps from the Station" is a place near Kokura Station with a big white lantern at the entrance. When you enter through the lantern, you will find a bright and lively atmosphere with six different shops. Although it was still early in the evening, around 5 o'clock, each shop was offering Happy Hour deals, mostly with highballs and lemon sours. I decided to try the "Fueimon" where I had a set with sashimi, small dishes, and a drink for around 1000 yen. The sashimi was fresh and beautifully presented, and the chicken skin with ponzu sauce was a tasty small dish. The set also came with cream cheese as an appetizer for my friend's non-alcoholic beer. It was a great value set for a quick and enjoyable dining experience as we wanted to explore more shops in the area. I also liked the idea of having chopsticks and plates neatly stored in a drawer, making it convenient and clean.

After enjoying the chicken skin at "Takenoya," I peeked into the next door restaurant and saw they had a seafood bowl, which made me crave it. I had also considered visiting "Kushikatsu Tanaka," but they had already been reviewed, so I passed (laughs). The seafood bowl at this restaurant had regular rice instead of sushi rice. The essence of dining out is experiencing the unique flavors of each restaurant. If it had sushi rice, I would have been curious about the specific blend of sushi vinegar they used. The sashimi was decent, but not exceptional. I would prefer buying good sashimi and making it myself, as it would be more cost-effective. If they use regular rice, I would expect a unique aspect like a large quantity or high quality. When I visited a second time with some close friends, we opted for a drinking set as well, which increased our satisfaction.
