The chicken was juicy and delicious! There are various sauce options to choose from, making it hard to decide. I ordered the black pepper flavored potato, which was spicy and tasty. Ordering by phone and picking up was smooth. I want to order again! There is no parking available.

I LOVE Miyazaki, I LOVE Fukuoka, I LOVE Nagasaki, I LOVE Kumamoto, I LOVE Oita, I LOVE Kagoshima, I LOVE Okinawa. I love most of Kyushu except for certain prefectures. Kyushu is amazing with its different prefectural characteristics and specialties. It's hard to believe that such a small island has so much to offer. Kyushu is one-third the size of Hokkaido and ranks as the 36th largest island in the world. One of the prefectures in Kyushu, Miyazaki, is famous for its Chicken Nanban. Kitchen Nao in Nobeoka was inspired by Nanban-zuke, a dish made with marinated mackerel, and created a version with fried chicken soaked in sweet vinegar. Then, at Ajino Ogura Ose, a chef in Nobeoka fried the chicken and soaked it in sweet vinegar, topping it with tartar sauce. This dish has been passed down as Chicken Nanban. Pursuing dreams from Miyazaki to Fukuoka, a small shop in Nishijin aimed to spread Miyazaki's delicious Chicken Nanban. Starting from there, the shop faced disagreements with the landlord and decided to relocate to Hirao, becoming Nankoku Shoten Watanabe Nanban. From the Nishijin era, they passionately love the Chicken Nanban sandwich. Juicy thigh meat Chicken Nanban with plenty of tartar sauce in a pita bread. The taste needs no explanation. A pita bread filled with juicy Chicken Nanban, tartar sauce, and lettuce can never be bad. When I went to Ohashi to buy spiny lobsters, they were not available today. Instead, they had live mantis shrimp and live caridean shrimp. I'm not confident in handling live mantis shrimp, so I left Ohashi without buying anything. It's lonely to return to Niehama without buying anything, so I stopped by Watanabe Nanban in front of Maki's at Super Maki. It was delicious again today.

Nankoku Shoten Watanabe Nanban Honjo is a shop with a signature menu item called Chicken Nanban Sandwich, which sandwiches Miyazaki's Chicken Nanban in pita bread. It used to be located in Nishijin, and I used to go there frequently, but after moving to Hirao, it became a hassle to get there. However, if you go in conjunction with the nearby supermarket Maki, it's convenient. I went there looking for fresh sea urchin, but they didn't have any. So, I decided to try the Jerk Chicken, a dish marinated in various spices and whiskey, which I had been curious about. Jerk Chicken is a soul food from Jamaica, and this shop's version is made authentically based on the owner's experience in Jamaica. It takes 40 minutes to cook, so I waited at a nearby 100-yen parking lot. The smell of the Jerk Chicken was unmistakable. After getting the food, I had some mishaps with the bus routes, but eventually made it back home. Despite some sauce spillage, the marinated sauce itself was delicious. The shop is primarily for takeout, and in these times, it's important to support restaurants adapting to new ways of operating. Review sites like Tabelog should prioritize accurate and clear reviews over distinguishing between normal and non-normal usage. Additionally, they should categorize reviews based on whether the experience was dine-in, takeout, etc., and also indicate if payment methods like credit card, electronic money, or specific apps are accepted.

Today's lunch was from a restaurant that my family has been curious about. It is located in Hirao, at the corner of Chikuzen Shindo and Heiwa. The restaurant originally opened in 2006 as a specialty shop for Chicken Nanban sandwiches at Miyazaki Aozora Market, then relocated to Nishijin Shopping Street in 2013, and finally moved to its current location in 2017. Every time I drove by, I saw the Chicken Nanban sandwich and decided to try it out today through takeout. I called ahead and was informed that the Jerk Chicken sandwich would take 30 minutes, so I drove to a nearby 100 yen parking lot and waited. The items I ordered were: Jerk Chicken sandwich (480 yen), Chicken Nanban sandwich with rich tartar sauce from Miyazaki (380 yen), Fish Fry sandwich with plain tartar sauce (380 yen), and a large side of fries (320 yen). You can choose from 10 different types of tartar sauce. I rushed back home and tried the Jerk Chicken sandwich first. The chicken was marinated with over 20 spices and seasonings for over 20 years to recreate the flavors the owner experienced in Jamaica decades ago. The chicken was tender with a good spice flavor that was not too spicy, and the basil aroma was prominent. The pita bread was soft and chewy, made fresh every morning, and complemented the chicken well. The sandwich was simple, with only sunny lettuce and seasoned ketchup as toppings. I also tried a bite of the Chicken Nanban and Fish Fry sandwiches, and the tartar sauce for each had a different but delicious taste. They also offer bento boxes, so I might try the Chicken Nanban bento next time!

Located near Heiwa intersection in Chuo Ward. Across the street is Supermarket Maki. It used to be in Nishijin, but has been relocated here. This place specializes in sandwiches with Chicken Nanban. They also offer sets with sandwiches, potatoes, and drinks, as well as Jerk Chicken sandwiches and regular bento boxes with rice. Takeout for side dishes is also available. I bought some while walking to Hirao Oike Park. I recommend calling ahead to order as the store is small and the waiting area outside is limited. The interesting thing here is that they have 10 different types of tartar sauce, such as plain, chili, sesame, habanero, and gochujang. I had the strong tartar sauce before, so this time I decided on mustard. My companion had the plain one. I got the L size potato set (without a drink). The individual sandwich costs 380 yen, and the L size potato set costs 700 yen. The sandwiches are quite filling with plenty of tartar sauce. I mentioned this in my review of the Nishijin location, but it would have been even better if the Chicken Nanban was made with chicken breast. Thank you for the meal.

Everyone's favorite Chicken Nanban x Pita Sandwich and Jamaican spicy chicken dish Jerk Chicken are available at this restaurant. It used to be located in Nishijin, Sawara-ku, Fukuoka City, but now it's in Hirao, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City. It's across from the organic and natural food supermarket Super Makii. This shop offers pocket-shaped pita sandwiches with Chicken Nanban, but there are also other fried items to choose from, and the variety of tartar sauces available allows you to enjoy different variations. They also have set menus with French fries and drinks. They also serve the spicy Jamaican barbecue chicken known as Jerk Chicken. It's made by marinating chicken thighs in a spice-infused marinade and grilling them. In addition to the Jerk Chicken as a standalone item, they also offer plate lunches and pita sandwich options. Takeout and delivery via Uber Eats are available, but you can also dine in on the second floor. As a chicken lover, I always go for the Jerk Chicken. It takes about 20 minutes to cook, so I enjoy a chilled drink like Rooibos tea while waiting. The image shows the Chicken Nanban pita sandwich that my colleague ordered. It comes with a choice of soft drink and seasoned French fries for 690 yen (tax included). Dining in allows you to enjoy it fresh right away. They have a wide variety of tartar menu items. The possibilities of tartar sauce are endless (laughs). The Jerk Chicken plate is 780 yen. It's a one-plate meal with salad and potatoes (drink sold separately). When you add a pita sandwich and a drink, it's 1,080 yen. Drinks are priced at 300 yen each, so the 1,080 yen set is a good deal. *They also have chilled drinks. The skin is crispy, while the inside is juicy and tender. Although marinated in a spice-infused liquid, the spiciness is not overpowering, making it suitable for those who don't like spicy food. When I mentioned that I like spicy food, the female owner kindly provided me with homemade Tabasco sauce to go with the Jerk Chicken. It's made with habanero peppers and had a mature flavor with a kick. I was at work, so I had a soft drink, but I wish I could have enjoyed it with beer or bourbon soda. Thank you for the delicious meal.【Shop Name】Watanabe Nanban【Address】5-18-10 Hirao, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka【Business Hours】11:00-20:00 *Please confirm【Closed】Tuesday *Please confirm*Approximately 12 minutes on foot from Nishitetsu Hirao Station. That Nanban sandwich over there. At "Watanabe Nanban" in Hirao. Located in a two-story building facing the intersection of Hirao Yamaso-dori and Chikuhime Road, "Watanabe Nanban" is a cozy spot. I visited this place five years ago, and it used to be in a narrow alley in Nishijin. The interior is small with the reception and kitchen on the first floor, and a cafe space on the second floor. The menu offers a Chicken Nanban sandwich set for 690 yen. The Chicken Nanban was thick and satisfying, with the option to choose the sauce - I went for the Miyazaki-style thick sauce. The potato seasoning can also be customized, so I chose black pepper. It was a nice lunchtime, enjoying the friendly signboard cat.店Information: Watanabe Nanban 092-524-6363 5-18-10 Hirao, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City Opening hours: 11:00-20:00 Closed on Tuesdays and the 3rd Monday of the month.

Nangoku Shouten Watanabe Nanban was a delicious chicken nanban sandwich shop that used to be in Nishijin, Sawara-ku. They served curry with ripe vegetables and bite-sized gyoza called Chaos. However, many of the popular shops in Nishijin have been relocating due to conflicts with landlords. Watanabe Nanban also closed temporarily and eventually moved to Hirao. Despite loving Watanabe Nanban, the new location in Hirao was quite far from Nishijin, requiring a transfer from the subway and Nishitetsu train, followed by a 20-minute walk from Hirao Station. On the way back from visiting Kitchen Tanaka, I decided to stop by Watanabe Nanban for the first time since their relocation. The shop was smaller than before, but they had an eat-in space on the second floor. The freshly fried, crispy chicken nanban was bursting with juices and flavor, complemented perfectly by the tartar sauce and homemade pita bread. I wish I could visit every day like in Nishijin, but Hirao is too far. Then I noticed a bus heading to Fujisaki, which happened to be the same bus I take when returning from a yakitori restaurant in Arae. It only cost 330 yen from Minamizansou-dori to Fujisaki, which was faster and cheaper than transferring between the subway and Nishitetsu train. Suddenly, Hirao felt much closer to me.

I took a little walk to buy a bento box. It's a specialty shop for Miyazaki's famous dish, Chicken Nanban. The menu includes Chicken Nanban or cutlet sandwiches, a set with a drink and potatoes, a Miyazaki specialty Jerk Chicken with bone-in chicken thigh meat, as well as Chicken Nanban bento and Mixed Fry bento. They make each order as it comes, so there is one group of customers waiting. Since I don't eat much in the morning, I was hungry, so I decided to go for the Mixed Fry bento. You can choose from 9 different tartar sauces for the Chicken Nanban and white fish fry, so I went with the recommended one. I got it to go. The regular price during weekday lunchtime is 640 yen, but it was discounted to 590 yen, which is great. The Chicken Nanban is packed with chunks of chicken, and there are 2 pieces of white fish fry as well! The white fish fry with Miyazaki's rich tartar sauce goes well with the crispy and refreshing fish fry. The Chicken Nanban with mustard tartar is a bit spicy and goes well with the flavorful Chicken Nanban. Additionally, there is a lot of simmered daikon in the space where pickles might be. And it's freshly made and hot. There is a menu with sandwiches, potatoes, and a drink, giving off a relaxing lunch vibe for girls, but surprisingly, the shop is quite small and there is no seating area for dining in. Nonetheless, looking around during the wait, I noticed that the interior of the shop is quite well thought out. Chicken Nanban is one of my top 10 favorite foods, so I might visit again soon.

The Chicken Nanban on the menu is a juicy and tender masterpiece with no complaints. For the Mixed Fry, you can choose one item from options like fried chicken, minced cutlet, and fritter. You can also choose one type of sauce for each item, and the regular tartar sauce seems to be the best. The dishes and service are both meticulous, and it looks like I'll be coming back more often.
