This is a review of "Kokura Kamaboko Danjika Shop" located in Uomachi, Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City. When it comes to Kokura Kamaboko, a specialty of Danjika Market, it is a product made by mixing fish paste with onions, carrots, and pepper, wrapping it in thin bread, and frying it. The outside is crispy, while the inside is fluffy. There are various types of fried fish paste products available. Of course, we enjoyed it as a snack with alcohol on the ferry ride back. The "Kanappe" is quite large, so we asked to have it cut in half for easy eating on the ferry. The shop I've been avoiding for two years because its genre is listed as "other" and not included in the search results. I ended up going because the King of Kanape in Kokura told me, "You can't live in Kokura without trying our kanape!" I didn't really want to go, but I didn't want to risk being banished from Kitakyushu either. I actually wanted to try kamaboko or tempura, but ended up trying kanape. I don't really get the appeal, but maybe it's the thin bread that makes it a kanape. It's more like rolling the ingredients instead of stacking them. Also, it has a strong peppery taste thanks to the black pepper. They accept PayPay.

Today, I heard the news about a fire at the Tanga Market and I am very worried. I hope the damage is not too severe. When it comes to Kamaboko in Kokura, the Kamaboko shop known for its canapés is popular. The canapés here are made with thin slices of fish paste mixed with carrots and onions, wrapped in bread and fried. The shop in Tanga Market is small but has a variety of products. If you go in the morning, you might find products that haven't been fried yet. It might be better to go around lunchtime. They fry the products on-site, so if you're lucky, you can have them fresh out of the fryer! Canapé ¥150 - It doesn't taste much like bread, with the onions giving it a flavor similar to shumai. It has a spicy kick and goes well with rice! Soft-Boiled Egg Tempura ¥200 - A beautifully soft-boiled egg! Mentaiko Cheese Tempura ¥190 - Plenty of cheese on mentaiko-flavored fish paste! Kanmon Octopus Tempura ¥190 - Has the delicious flavor of octopus. White Tempura ¥130 - I bought this freshly fried. It uses threadfin bream. A friend was eating it on the spot, so I had a bite. It was softer than I expected. I enjoyed all of them! Personally, I liked the canapé. It has a taste that doesn't feel like fish, so it might be good for children who don't like fish.

In the latter half of July, I visited Kokura for a holiday. I arrived in the morning and took a refreshing break at the Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum before heading to the Tanga Market. When I left the museum, I was considering whether to go to the ramen shop that was my original destination, but after walking from the memorial hall to Kokura City Hall, crossing Nakanohashi Bridge, and reaching the Tanga Market, I was already sweating profusely because of the heat. So, I gave up on the idea of going to the ramen shop. On the way, when crossing Nakanohashi Bridge, there was an object on the bridge with a head that looked like macaroni (!?) in the shape of a human. It was moving in a series of small shifts, and I couldn't quite understand the intention of the creator. After some research, I found out that it is called "Macaroni Alien." Apparently, the original plan was to have 12 figures representing the 12 months, but due to budget constraints, only 7 were made. A little further south, I crossed the Tenjinjima Bridge over the Kamitake River to reach the Tanga Market. This quaint market is also undergoing redevelopment, which is expected to be completed by 2027. Since it was so hot, I thought of going for a standing drink, but all the shops I wanted to visit were closed. So, I decided to visit the "Kokura Kamaboko Tanga Shop" to buy some souvenirs for my family. As the standing drink shops were closed, I decided to head north in the market to find a place for lunch. I couldn't resist stopping by a shop that caught my eye and ended up buying some half-boiled egg tempura and canapés. I bought three of each. The shopkeeper skillfully wrapped them up for me. I took them home to eat. The half-boiled egg tempura was exactly as the name suggests - the yolk was runny and flowed out when cracked. It was so delicious just to look at. And when I ate it, it was incredibly tasty. The canapés were also delicious, and they always seem to disappear quickly with a beer in hand. I wrote the review in the wrong order, but after this, I had lunch and then bought another souvenir. Enjoyed the meal!

Kokura's kitchen is now well-known nationwide. The Tanga market there boasts immense popularity. It started at the beginning of the Taisho era, with goods coming in from nearby areas like Tagawa. It naturally developed into a bustling market with a market-like function. Merchants gathered there, turning it into a market for fresh produce. Nowadays, Kokura's kitchen is also gaining attention as a tourist spot. In this market, which was established in 1920 and has been working hard with fish paste products for 100 years, each generation has added polish to the traditional techniques and horse mackerel. Everything is carefully handmade by artisans. The popularity of this market is unrivaled due to factors like the day's temperature, humidity, and the type of fish caught. The Kanappe, which was featured on a TV show and became a famous product overnight, still appears in various media. In fact, there was a long line on this day as well. While there are many other attractive products in this market, something feels unsatisfactory. If you think of them as signature items to attract customers, there are also popular items like red ginger tempura, corn tempura, shiso rolls, and burdock tempura.

At the west exit of Tanka Station on the Kitakyushu Monorail, 100 meters north, is a shop called "Tanka Market". Established in Taisho 9, it is one of the oldest and most reputable kamaboko (fish cake) shops in Kokura. It has a small and quaint appearance with a narrow storefront in a corner of the shopping street. Inside the glass case at the front of the shop, there are many kamaboko (fish cakes) lined up. Their signature product is the "Kanappe", made by wrapping fish surimi mixed with carrots and onions in thin slices of bread and frying it until crispy. The "Morokoshi Ten" is also addictive with its sweet corn flavor. A shop where you can enjoy their famous kamaboko.

The canapés here are really delicious! They wrap fish paste in bread and cook it perfectly. It's so tasty! I highly recommend it. It goes really well with Ruby too. Thank you for the meal! I will definitely come back again.

When looking for souvenirs during a business trip to Kitakyushu, I wanted to try a certain food but it was sold out in the evening. I went back the next morning and tried it, and it was surprisingly delicious. It was just deep-fried kamaboko with a mix of basic ingredients wrapped in bread, but the spicy flavor of pepper and the aroma of kamaboko were a good combination that made me want rice or sake. I bought it as a souvenir, but I might end up eating it myself.

At the end of the year, the bustling Ogura and Tangaka markets are crowded with people shopping for New Year's goods. The market, mainly run by locals, offers a traditional shopping experience along narrow alleyways. Recently, it has also become known to inbound tourists. One popular spot is the "Ogura Kamaboko" shop, where customers flock to buy festive red and white fish cakes. The shop also offers a variety of everyday fish cakes. The freshly fried "Kanappe" (160 yen) and crispy "Gobo Tempura" (150 yen) are must-try items. The texture and flavor of the fish cakes here are unique and delicious, making them a favorite among customers. The affordability and quality of the fish cakes set them apart from those found in other regions.

I don't remember if I bought or ate canapés here, but I purchased and tried them today. They are delicious - crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They are like a variation of fish croquettes. They make a great snack.

On a regular afternoon visit, there wasn't a long line but the place was always crowded with customers. After working for about 2 hours, they asked if there were any questions and swiftly left. They then moved to Tanga Market to buy some snacks. They bought the classic local snack, "Kokura kamaboko," which can last for 4-5 days. They also got 3 canapés and octopus tempura and wood ear mushroom tempura. They arranged the canapés on a plate and enjoyed them with highball and shochu highball. The canapés were made by wrapping minced fish and vegetables in thinly sliced bread. The flavor was spicy and went well with highball, beer, or shochu. The octopus tempura had a strong umami flavor with a hint of spiciness, suitable for pairing with shochu. The wood ear mushroom tempura was light and delicate, perfect for pairing with delicate sake. This amount lasted for two days, and they planned to try something different next time. Thank you for the meal.

Cheers, it's An'nagi-chan (*☻-☻*) here! Today was a fun day with a foodie meetup in Kashii, using our Seishun 18 Kippu for a mini trip♪───O(≧∇≦)O────♪ It was really, really enjoyable! And we ate a lot (@ ̄ρ ̄@) After the event, I took a train from Kashii Station to Kokura. It's been a while since I've been to Kokura. I walked around and headed towards the Tanga Market area. I had eaten so much for lunch that I wasn't even hungry haha. It was already evening, so most shops were closed. Ahh, Kokura Kamaboko! I wonder if they're still open? Ah, they are! Phew (@ ̄ρ ̄@) A long time ago, I came to the Tanga Market and bought canapés from Kokura Kamaboko and ate them on the spot. They were so delicious that when I went back to buy more, they were sold out. That memory stuck with me... Today, I was able to buy them! Yay! Yay! So, because I was still a bit hungry, I brought them home to eat. It's been years since I had these canapés. They're quite big and heavy... (laughs) But they were still delicious! I'll definitely go back to Kokura. See you again, Kokura! Adieu♡

I bought tempura as a souvenir at this market. The shop was featured on a morning TV show that day, so there was a long line in front of it. I bought two canapés, Akamoku tempura, Wakatake tempura, and onion tempura. The tempura was crispy and delicious. The specialty canapé here is made by wrapping fish paste in bread and deep frying it. Following the instructions, I heated it up properly and it turned out crispy on the outside and hot on the inside. The fish paste also contains onions, giving it a flavor similar to fish croquettes often seen in Fukuoka. With the fish paste sandwiched in bread, it's also similar to Nagasaki's famous "hatoshii". It was quite filling for just 140 yen. Thank you for the meal! I would like to buy canapés again when I visit Kokura next time.

Date: Sunday in December (Year-end) Situation: With family Access: A few minutes' walk from Monorail Tansuka Station Frequency of Use: 5 times or more Number of Reviews: 1st review Last stop, "Ogura Kamaboko Tansuka Store." Located near the Maruwa side of the Tansuka Market, closer to the Uomachi shopping street entrance. This renowned kamaboko (fish cake) shop is a specialty store, with the main store located elsewhere. The lineup on this day was different due to the year-end season, but there were still countless varieties of kamaboko available to greet us. The items ordered were as follows: - Shiroten (120 yen): I'm not a big fan of fish paste products, but I really enjoy the simplicity of Shiroten here. It allows you to truly taste the essence of the fish cake. It pairs well with a bit of yuzu pepper after lightly searing it, or you can add soy sauce for more flavor. It's a dish that makes you appreciate the simplicity of its taste. Overall, this shop specializes in kamaboko. With a lineup tailored to the year-end season, there are also standard items available. As a kamaboko specialty shop, they also offer variations with tofu tempura, shiitake mushrooms, lotus roots, etc., which can be enjoyed for different occasions. I sometimes simmer them together when making oden, and it's delicious. They also have a famous dish called Kanappe, which I have yet to try. Thank you for the meal. *There are many other shops in the Tansuka Market besides the ones I have reviewed. I visited other shops as well, but some are not listed on food review websites. I will try to review them on another occasion.

I visited the restaurant around 1:30 pm on a regular day and there were 2-3 people in line. I learned about a famous dish called "Kanappe" which is a type of fish paste from Kokura. I walked all the way to the Yatagai Market from the venue. I bought Kanappe for snacking and a pack for evening appetizers. I ate the Kanappe on the spot, which is a roll of slimy fish paste with onions and carrots wrapped in thin bread. It was quite filling and perfect for a snack. The evening appetizer pack was a bit overwhelming with its volume, but I will enjoy it slowly at night. I will definitely come back again. Thank you for the delicious meal.

My mother was admitted to Kitakyushu City Medical Center, so I went to attend her surgery and then strolled around the nearby Tanka Market. Most shops were closed on Sundays, but I was glad they were open on Monday. I wanted to try the market's specialty called "Kanappe," so I went to a tempura shop. They sold one for 150 yen, which is a freshly made tempura of fish paste wrapped in bread. They put it in a small plastic bag for me to eat while walking. It wasn't piping hot, but it was warm. It wasn't too greasy, had a good amount of tempura, and was delicious.

I saw on a TV program that there is a shop at the morning market where you can buy your favorite side dish and they will provide you with rice. I decided to try it out. There were various tempting side dishes being sold at different shops, but I came across freshly fried sweet potato tempura-like side dish. Later I found out that this shop is a well-known establishment in Kokura, an old shop. It was very delicious, so I also bought some to eat at home after the meal.

I headed from Kokura Station to Tanga Market. There are many shops lined up, but I visited "Kokura Kamaboko" to try the market's specialty "Kanappe". The Kanappe costs 125 yen and is a unique kamaboko wrapped in bread. It has a good texture and is very delicious. The Shirodane costs 120 yen and has a beautiful white color. It is simple but has a good texture and aroma, making it delicious. I think this shop offers very delicious kamaboko. They use the highest quality Itoryodai for the surimi. I would like to buy a large amount and enjoy it with some sake at this shop.
