Today's lunch was at a popular tsukemen restaurant in Nishijin, called Tsukemen Kyoto Watanabe. This place is known for offering a unique soup compared to other tsukemen shops. Orders are made through a ticket system. You can choose from three types of noodles: thick, medium-thick, or flat noodles. Additionally, you can select the size of the noodles: regular, medium, large, or extra-large. Information about the noodles, such as their characteristics and weight, is displayed on the wall to help you decide.
When handing over the ticket to the staff, you can also choose the type of soup. Options include rich seafood, vegetable potage, spicy minced meat, curry, and shrimp flavor. I chose the "recommended" rich seafood soup this time. The counter seats had a wall lined with autographed color papers from celebrities, indicating that this is a popular spot among famous people!
After a short wait, the dish was served:
Rich Seafood Tsukemen
The hot soup was served piping hot. The medium-thick noodles (160g) came with slices of chashu, menma, and seaweed. The noodles had a chewy texture and were enjoyable to slurp. I savored the rich seafood flavor of the soup. There were three slices of seasoned chashu, which paired well with the noodles.
They also offered a weekday lunch special called "one bite of rice service." After finishing the noodles, I asked for this service. I handed the soup bowl back to the staff, who returned it with rice added. The rich seafood soup was a perfect match for the rice, making for a satisfying ending to the meal.
The friendly staff provided excellent service, making it a pleasant dining experience. With a wide variety of soup and noodle options, I felt like this was a place worth revisiting.
