Near the office in Ginza, there has been an increase in restaurants that used to only operate at night but now offer lunch as well. This reflects the current trend. I visited one such place where they used to serve side dishes for drinks, but now offer them for lunch as well. Here is my review:
1. Location, atmosphere, interior: Located about a 7-minute walk from Ginza Station, on the outskirts of Ginza that is also within walking distance from Shinbashi Station. It is in an old mixed-use building tucked away in the back, on the 4th floor, making it a bit hard to find. Look for the lunch signboard on the street as a guide. The interior is small with a main counter, giving off a retro snack bar vibe. It's dimly lit, and sunlight doesn't seem to shine in even during the day, making it somewhat suitable for day drinking (laughs).
2. Food: You can choose from several daily main dishes, accompanied by 4 side dishes. I was intrigued by the grilled spicy pollack roe, but since it was cold, I opted for the "Cabbage Roll" as the main dish. First, the side dishes were served, consisting of "Egg and Tomato Stir-Fry," "Marinated Horse Mackerel," "Simmered Eggplant," and "Spinach with Sesame Dressing." They all had a homely and simple taste. The Cabbage Roll was slightly small, with a Japanese-style flavor cooked in bonito broth. The cabbage was tender and well-cooked. The brown rice was served in a small bowl. It was a "healthy" lunch set in terms of both content and portion.
3. Staff: There was a female staff member outside the building, probably due to the hard-to-find location. She seemed to also assist in cooking. The main cooking and customer service were handled by a female chef. While the basic aspects like greetings and seating were fine, she seemed engrossed in conversation with what seemed like regular customers, making it slightly uncomfortable for other customers.
4. Value for money: Considering the food quality, quantity, atmosphere, and the chef's service, I honestly didn't feel like it was great value for money. In the competitive lunch scene around Ginza and Shinbashi, you have many options for 1,200 yen.
5. Other: They offer a nice set for a light drink between 4 pm and 5:30 pm.
