◉Representing Osaka, which has been featured in the Michelin Guide for 3 consecutive years, this is the taste of Osaka♪ While I usually provide gourmet information from Hokkaido, I recently visited Osaka and compared popular takoyaki shops in the area♪ The first shop I visited was the popular shop "Takoyaki Douraku Wanaka," which has been featured in the Michelin Guide for 3 consecutive years. ===========
While in the birthplace of the "flour-based dish culture," Osaka, I wanted to try some delicious takoyaki. During my stroll in Dotonbori, I headed to "Takoyaki Douraku Wanaka Dotonbori Store." The main store in Sennichimae has been selected as a Bib Gourmand in the "Michelin Guide Kyoto-Osaka" for 3 consecutive years since 2016. The shop is located in a corner of the Dotonbori shopping street, and you can easily spot it with a sign that says "Wanaka" and "No.1 in Osaka" on it. The customers waiting in line and the staff cooking takoyaki are both foreigners. The conversation goes like, "One order?" "One takoyaki." "Eat in?" "Take out." It continues in a mix of languages. Truly Osaka, a worldly place (;^ω^) It's our turn, my family and I. Staff: "One order?" Me: "One." Oh no, my Japanese is getting weird (^^;) I bought the classic "takoyaki (8 pieces)" for takeout. It costs 600 yen. The finishing seasoning is the classic "special sauce." There are various types like "kamakiki salt," "dashi soy sauce," "spicy sauce," "ponzu," and more. Now, "Wanaka" was founded in 1961 by the father of Chairman Wachuu as a confectionery store in Sennichimae. In 1986, Chairman Wachuu started selling takoyaki in front of the shop, which was the beginning of their takoyaki business. As the name suggests, the store name is "Wanaka." I've been mistakenly calling it "Wakana" all this time m(__)m Recently, they also opened a branch at the new baseball stadium "Escon Field Hokkaido" by the Nippon-Ham Fighters, so it's a familiar shop for Hokkaido residents as well. I brought it back to the hotel and enjoyed it leisurely in my room♪ When you bite into the crispy thin-skinned takoyaki, the fillings inside ooze out. Inside the fluffy batter are the main ingredients: octopus, tempura scraps, green onions, and colorless pickled ginger. The broth is delicious, oh so delicious♡ I finished it in no time.
