There are many takoyaki shops in Osaka, but one in particular always has a long line. They offer four different types of sauce to choose from (sauce, broth, salt, mentaiko), and they also have a menu option called "Oo-iri" which includes two of each flavor. You can buy your takoyaki outside and eat inside the shop. There are two floors, so if you go early, you should be able to find a seat. There is self-serve water inside and alcohol spray available. The takoyaki was incredibly delicious! The salt flavor was especially good.

I came to Osaka and went to the famous Wanaka! The takoyaki was piping hot, and my friend burnt their mouth haha. Eating it in one bite is dangerous. I recommend letting it cool down before eating. It tasted surprisingly ordinary but delicious!

I ordered the Oo-iri (sauce, soy sauce, green onion salt, mentaiko mayo) for 700 yen, which allows you to compare four different flavors. When you take a bite of the crispy thin-skinned takoyaki, a creamy filling overflows from inside. Inside the fluffy dough, there are the main ingredients: octopus, tenkasu, green onions, and colorless pickled ginger. Additionally, the mentaiko mayo takoyaki has a strong flavor of mentaiko, and personally, this is my favorite.

On the final day of my trip to Osaka, I indulged in eating in Namba and Dotonbori. To start off, I got some takoyaki from Wanaka-san and enjoyed it at a rest area with a one-drink system. The takoyaki was delicious, with the added crunchiness of tempura bits enhancing the flavor and texture compared to regular takoyaki.

Delicious!! I ordered the Oo-iri, which allows you to compare 7004 different flavors. The sauce, bonito flakes soy sauce, green onions and salt, and mentaiko mayo were all delicious!! The outside was crispy and the inside was gooey, almost burning hot. I love crispy takoyaki, so I want to eat it again!

I visited a very famous shop for a snack at 3 o'clock, and was able to buy without waiting in line. It was a scorching hot day, but I could eat on the second floor, and it was helpful that there was self-service water since I didn't buy any drinks. They provided small paper plates and disposable chopsticks. The taste was quite strong.

I arrived in Osaka and planned to watch a comedy show at Grand Kagetsu, but it was a bit expensive and time-consuming. So, I decided to watch a show by young comedians across the street. I still had about an hour and a half before the show, so I thought of eating takoyaki. I found a takoyaki shop next to me and decided to eat there assuming all shops in the area would be similar. The shop had an eat-in corner in the alley, which was convenient. The taste was really delicious! It was my second time eating takoyaki in Osaka, and I couldn't remember the first time which was about 30 years ago. Nevertheless, Wanaka's takoyaki was amazing! It was a great choice for my first meal in Osaka. The eat-in space was cool and they had self-service water, so I could eat comfortably and escape the heat.

◉Representing Osaka, which has been featured in the Michelin Guide for 3 consecutive years, this is the taste of Osaka♪ While I usually provide gourmet information from Hokkaido, I recently visited Osaka and compared popular takoyaki shops in the area♪ The first shop I visited was the popular shop "Takoyaki Douraku Wanaka," which has been featured in the Michelin Guide for 3 consecutive years. =========== While in the birthplace of the "flour-based dish culture," Osaka, I wanted to try some delicious takoyaki. During my stroll in Dotonbori, I headed to "Takoyaki Douraku Wanaka Dotonbori Store." The main store in Sennichimae has been selected as a Bib Gourmand in the "Michelin Guide Kyoto-Osaka" for 3 consecutive years since 2016. The shop is located in a corner of the Dotonbori shopping street, and you can easily spot it with a sign that says "Wanaka" and "No.1 in Osaka" on it. The customers waiting in line and the staff cooking takoyaki are both foreigners. The conversation goes like, "One order?" "One takoyaki." "Eat in?" "Take out." It continues in a mix of languages. Truly Osaka, a worldly place (;^ω^) It's our turn, my family and I. Staff: "One order?" Me: "One." Oh no, my Japanese is getting weird (^^;) I bought the classic "takoyaki (8 pieces)" for takeout. It costs 600 yen. The finishing seasoning is the classic "special sauce." There are various types like "kamakiki salt," "dashi soy sauce," "spicy sauce," "ponzu," and more. Now, "Wanaka" was founded in 1961 by the father of Chairman Wachuu as a confectionery store in Sennichimae. In 1986, Chairman Wachuu started selling takoyaki in front of the shop, which was the beginning of their takoyaki business. As the name suggests, the store name is "Wanaka." I've been mistakenly calling it "Wakana" all this time m(__)m Recently, they also opened a branch at the new baseball stadium "Escon Field Hokkaido" by the Nippon-Ham Fighters, so it's a familiar shop for Hokkaido residents as well. I brought it back to the hotel and enjoyed it leisurely in my room♪ When you bite into the crispy thin-skinned takoyaki, the fillings inside ooze out. Inside the fluffy batter are the main ingredients: octopus, tempura scraps, green onions, and colorless pickled ginger. The broth is delicious, oh so delicious♡ I finished it in no time. The reputation of being the best in Osaka is well deserved! I ordered the luxurious set of four takoyaki flavors: sauce mayo, negi shio (green onion salt), shoyu (soy sauce), and mentaiko (spicy cod roe). Each flavor was delicious and it was hard to choose a favorite. Despite being large-sized, you get 8 pieces for only 600 yen! It's very affordable. I would like to try the tako sen (octopus dumplings) next time.

Right at the entrance of Dotonbori! I was drawn in by the takoyaki and decided to give it a try! You can eat inside the store, but since it's right at the entrance of Dotonbori, there were many customers and not many empty seats. I ordered the standard sauce at the entrance. It came with plenty of mayonnaise, green onions, bonito flakes, and of course, lots of sauce. When it's hot, the surface is crispy. It must be freshly cooked, right? The inside is gooey and delicious for sure. It's very hot, so be careful. Takoyaki and beer go really well together, don't they? Osaka has a lot of appetizing food just like Fukuoka, so I was happy from start to finish. ♡

I ordered Ooiri for 700 yen including tax and Takopon for 650 yen including tax. The unique chewy texture of Ooiri was interesting as I had never tasted anything like it before. Ooiri offered a variety of flavors which made it enjoyable. We shared the Takopon, and it was my favorite! It was delicious!

While wandering around Dotonbori after a day of drinking, I suddenly felt like eating takoyaki. I ended up at Wanaka, although I probably didn't need to eat in such a bustling place. But I guess Osaka people just have sudden cravings! We ordered an 8-piece takoyaki for 600 yen and a beer for 500 yen each, totaling 2200 yen for two people. We decided to eat them at a table inside the restaurant. When I tried to pick up the takoyaki with a toothpick, they were too soft and fell apart. Maybe they were rushed and not cooked properly, resulting in them being too soft?

One of the must-try takoyaki places in Osaka is Wanaka-san. Around noon, the store in Dotonbori has a long line! (on Sundays) I'm a bit greedy, so I ordered the 4-flavor set. Soy sauce, sauce, green onion salt, and mentaiko (seasonal limited edition) - all of them were delicious!!! They were not crispy, but had a fluffy and creamy texture. Don't forget to try them when you're in the land of flour-based snacks! Laugh.

Wanaka is famous for its delicious takoyaki! For ¥700, you can enjoy four different flavors: shoyu katsuobushi, sauce, negi shio, and mentaiko mayo, with two pieces of each. The takoyaki itself was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, very tasty! I especially liked the refreshing taste of the negi shio flavor. The restaurant also has seating if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal. They provide self-service water and tissues as well. I recommend it for those who want to relax and eat slowly. I went during Golden Week. I waited about 7 minutes to buy it. I ordered the limited-time mentaiko cheese for 750 yen (a bit pricey). I probably won't repeat it. It's seasoned only with mentaiko mayonnaise, so it's a bit lacking for me. Personally, I prefer the normal one. The crispy texture on the surface is about half of a takoyaki's. If you come to Osaka, it's a taste you should experience at least once. I wanted to try either "Kururu" or "Wanaka," so I happened to pass by Wanaka and went there. Thank you for the meal.

The takoyaki enthusiast at Dotombori was more fluent in English than the yakitori shop guy. Inside? Takeout? Cash only. It was bustling with inbound tourists, no masks in a foreign-style Dotombori. Crispy and creamy, like fried in oil, heavy but refreshing with dashi. Expensive but delicious with a Premium Malt beer.

This is "Wanaka" in Dotonbori. Located right in the heart of Dotonbori, amidst many takoyaki shops, this place stands out with its spacious dining area. Takoyaki is priced at 600 yen for 8 pieces. Takopon (takoyaki with ponzu sauce) is 650 yen for 8 pieces, and there is also the "Ooiri" set which includes 8 pieces with four different flavors - sauce, soy sauce, salt, and spicy sauce - for 700 yen. They also sell takosen for 200 yen and canned beer for 300 yen. I ordered the classic sauce, mayonnaise, and bonito flakes takoyaki for 600 yen for 8 pieces. The spacious dining area is a key feature, allowing you to relax on the second floor. The freshly made hot takoyaki is delicious. The takoyaki is slightly larger compared to other shops. The broth is not overpowering, and the creamy texture is enjoyable. Among the takoyaki I tried on this trip, I felt that this place had the most authentic Osaka takoyaki flavor (a compliment). I visited both the "Wanaka Dotonbori branch" and the "Wanaka Namba branch" on this trip, and I personally felt that the Dotonbori branch had better grilling skills (although it may have been by chance). Despite being self-service, I appreciate the well-maintained spacious dining area. From the perspective of city beautification, I highly value shops with a well-developed dining space.

I lined up for 30 minutes on a weekday. There are many takoyaki places around here, but this one is amazing. Osaka takoyaki is so creamy. Even after eating okonomiyaki, I still had room for more. This place is also Michelin-rated, right? Conquered two restaurants in Osaka (lol).

In Dotonbori, I compared different takoyaki shops. Wanaka has several shops nearby, but I like this one because the staff is energetic and friendly, calling out to customers. They cook the takoyaki slightly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The combination of the broth and sauce is amazing. They serve the takoyaki fresh on a boat, so be careful of getting burned. For me, Wanaka is a must-visit takoyaki shop in Osaka.
