I visited the restaurant after 5 PM. It seemed to be run by a couple, and within an hour of my visit, several groups of people came in and they had to turn them away. It's better to visit early or make a reservation. The chef, who seemed to be the owner, prepared the dishes alone so there was a bit of a wait. However, all the dishes were delicious and made with local ingredients. Towards the end, when it quieted down, the owner even struck up a conversation with me, which made me happy. This restaurant is a gem in a location with not many options, and I was very grateful for it.

We received plenty of local ingredients. The tatami room had a spacious feel. The herring sashimi was fatty. Gisuko didn't like the texture too much. The princess hokke was easy to eat and delicious. The octopus vinegar dish and crab porridge allowed us to taste Hokkaido. 7400

A restaurant in the Enbaku area. It was very close to our accommodation so we decided to visit. The atmosphere was cozy and it seemed like a popular spot among locals. The interior was spacious and clean. We ordered fried chicken skin and a sashimi assortment. The chicken skin was coated in a sweet sauce and had a nice flavor. The sashimi assortment was generous and only cost 1,500 yen. Overall, it was a good value for the quality of food.

I heard that the guesthouse is open from 5:00 pm, so I arrived early and entered the shop as the owner was opening it. I was interested in the fried rice from the information I received beforehand, so I planned to drink seafood and finish with fried rice. As shown in the photo, I enjoyed sashimi, hime hokke, squid guts, and beer. When more customers started coming in, the cooking speed inevitably slowed down. It's better to enter early to have a good time.

In Rebun Island, there is a valuable izakaya. In conclusion, it is a normal izakaya. It seems to be popular for hosting tourist groups during the season. I had hokki sashimi, zangi, and gisuko. Gisuko is soy sauce-marinated loach eggs. It goes well with sake, this one. Hokki clams also go well with sake. But, since I will be going on a sightseeing drive tomorrow, I'll skip the sake for now. Thank you for the meal.

The only izakaya open this season in the area of Rishiri Fuji town was this one. I called to confirm and visited. Since I had already eaten dinner, I went in search of sea urchin, but they had sea urchin available but hadn't sourced it. It was disappointing. I had dried squid, deep-fried natto, liver and gizzard, and a few beers. It was very lively with locals.

It is located about a 15-minute walk from the ferry terminal. Next to it are a Seicomart and a home center. It has a spacious parking lot next to it. There also seems to be tatami seating available. Around 7:30 pm, it was already fully booked during the peak holiday season, so making a reservation is recommended. Everything was delicious! Especially the sashimi was thick and fresh, it was amazing. The portion size of each dish was quite generous. I went there two days in a row.

All of the dishes were consistently delicious, but I especially enjoyed the sashimi, shishamo, and mozuku.

This is an izakaya located next to the Seicomart in Oshidomari, Rebun Town. Had dinner here. Inside the restaurant, two groups of office workers are having a party after work. The restaurant is quite spacious. It's lively here compared to the quiet town. I couldn't help but laugh at the inevitable island-specific topics. I had the fried rice, which was delicious and reasonably priced at 650 yen. It's a great atmosphere in this restaurant. If you enjoy alcohol, it would be nice to enjoy some island delicacies with hot sake. Thank you for the meal.

I visited Rebun Island for the first time, although it's not the best season. The ferry terminal was surprisingly beautiful, but the town felt lonely. I arrived at a recommended restaurant, but they were out of uni. I tried the dashimaki tamago, which was overcooked and tough. The grilled hime hokke was easy to eat but tasted like any other hokke. The sashimi platter had botan ebi, buri, maguro, tako, and sake - nothing special. The gisuko (capelin roe) was a unique and tasty dish. The grilled hokke was good, but nothing extraordinary. The kasube simmered in sweet and savory sauce was delicious. The squid fry was average. The crab rice porridge was tasty but lacked crab. The dried squid was ordinary overall. My expectations were too high, so my excitement dwindled, but objectively, it was just an average izakaya. Looking forward to tomorrow's meal on Rishiri Island!

August 2011 Review
I revisited the izakaya with the noren curtain in Shiriwadai, and it was just as good as last year! Unfortunately, they didn't have the keep bottle from last year (lol). They now serve sweet potato shochu by the glass, which is a plus. Unlike last year, there were about 20 local customers this time, almost full! With this many people, the kitchen seemed a bit overwhelmed. I think I'll try to come when it's a bit less crowded next time. The standout dishes this time were the thick-cut pork skewers, typical of a fishing town, and the large pieces of vinegar marinated sea pineapple. I'll definitely revisit next year!
August 2010 Review
I was taken here on a Saturday night by a friend who lives in Rishiri, next to the Seiko Mart in Shiriwadai. The noren curtain at the entrance gave a good impression from the start. The staff and interior were refreshing and pleasant. We sat in a raised seating area. Despite it being the tourist season, there was only one other group besides us, so it was quite empty. Perhaps it gets busier on weekdays due to the proximity to government offices. The complimentary dish was whelk, fitting for a port town. They had a good selection of izakaya-style dishes. The "soy sashimi" and the surprisingly generous "Chinese cabbage and pork in egg sauce" were recommended. The skewers were only seasoned with salt. All of them went well with alcohol. The seasoning for the "kasure simmered" was personally a bit too heavy on soy sauce, I would prefer it to be lighter. But that might be the style of a fishing town. However, the kasure itself is good quality, so I recommend trying it. With this kind of food, you definitely want to pair it with authentic shochu. They only had one type of sweet potato shochu in a bottle, so I splurged and bought a bottle, but unfortunately, I couldn't finish it on my second visit... There's still more than 2/3 left (TxT). If any reviewers visiting Rishiri after this want to drink sweet potato shochu, please feel free to drink it! It's labeled as "Yamaden" (lol). My friend will have some, but unless it's consumed immediately, it'll remain (lol). It should last until next summer. It was a place I'd like to revisit next summer. [Photo taken with permission]

Next to Seicomart is a izakaya called Oshikamaru with a prominent sign. The inside is quite spacious, with a counter and several tatami rooms. Among the izakayas in Oshamambe, it might be one of the larger ones. However, on the day I visited, there were only three staff members serving two groups of customers, which seemed a bit chaotic. I was craving fried rice that day, so I ordered fried rice with soup, along with a salad and gizzard. The salad, priced at 750 yen, was a bit expensive, but it was a delicious salad with fresh fish mixed in. Although I enjoy cozy, island-like restaurants, it's nice to have a place like this where you can relax at your own pace. I wish I had ordered more seafood dishes to write a more detailed review, but even though I'm not sure why, the fried rice was delicious and overall, it's a great restaurant.

Located next to the Seicomart in Uonuma, this izakaya is quite popular with local customers. The interior is clean and doesn't feel like a typical izakaya in Shiretoko. The menu is extensive, offering salads, fried foods, skewers, grilled dishes, and yakiniku. All the dishes were delicious, but the pork skewers were particularly tasty. The pork belly and onions with sauce were sweet and savory. Oh, and the ochazuke was also delicious, with flavorful broth. Mixing wasabi with pickles and eating them together was amazing. I definitely want to go back again!
