Fukuoka Daimyo, in a mixed-use building on Teppocho Street, you'll find the Showa retro izakaya Kurayoshi. The master runs this old-fashioned public tavern, which he really wanted to do! The atmosphere of the cool BAR Kurayoshi is quite different from the cozy and friendly space here. Plus, you can enjoy the fish the master caught, which is just perfect! Of course, after this, it's time to move on to BAR Kurayoshi for some more drinks!
Visited in November 2020:
On this day, we wanted to casually have some yakitori in Fukuoka! But before that, let's wet our throats a bit. We were planning to go to a cool BAR, but somehow ended up here instead. It's like the appetizer before the main course, right?
Located in the back of a mixed-use building in Daimyo. There's a sign in front, so it's easy to find, but it has a deep and nostalgic feel. When you open the door of the old-fashioned apartment, you step into a Showa-style public tavern. The master of BAR Kurayoshi wanted to do something like this! It's totally a different atmosphere, isn't it? So, we started with a highball for 500 yen. Since it was just the beginning, we decided to stop after three drinks.
The master recommended the sashimi of fresh octopus and the famous sesame mackerel from Hakata! But unfortunately, the fried chicken was sold out. We'll have that later at BAR Kurayoshi, right?
- Fresh octopus sashimi for 900 yen
- Hakata's famous sesame mackerel for 900 yen
- Seared mezasu for 600 yen
The fresh octopus, which was clearly blanched, and the reliable sesame mackerel from Hakata were both delicious. The seared mezasu was perfect for the atmosphere of the tavern. The aroma makes you crave sake, but let's hold back. It's a lovely retro tavern where you can relax and feel the passion of everyone running it. Such places are always the best! After this, we'll have some yakitori and then head to BAR Kurayoshi, of course. Thank you for the meal.
