I visited Bar Kurayoshi, which is known for its delicious Neapolitan pasta, for my last meal of the year. The Neapolitan pasta was so tasty! I never realized how amazing mushrooms could be. I also ordered a Red Star Lager, a Highball, a Lagavulin Highball, and a Martini (not on the menu, but specially made by the owner). The Highball demonstration by Kurayoshi-san was impressive and educational. The Martini was surprisingly delicious. I would love to come back to learn more. I also tried the Yuzu Pepper Salted Squid, Eggplant Tempura, Potato Salad, and Boneless Chicken Karaage, all of which were delicious. The owner, Kurayoshi-san, and the manager, Uchida-san, along with the staff, created a great retro atmosphere. It was a fun and enjoyable experience.

Today's work took me to Yamaguchi. I said goodbye to my boss in Shin-Yamaguchi, as expected, he took the bus to Yamaguchi Airport and I took the Shinkansen to Hakata for work at a hotel in Tenjin. I finished my office work comfortably at the hotel desk with effective air conditioning. Waiting rooms at stations or airports (not lounges) are not very efficient, right? I work more than three times as much as my boss. I dedicate my Saturday morning to commuting to the company, but I'll forgive myself because I have a solo trip to Fukuoka's izakayas planned. The first stop on my solo trip to Fukuoka's izakayas is "Showa Retro Sakaba Kurayoshi." I arrived at 6:00 PM, just in time, as there was only one seat available at the counter. Let's start with a beer after work. I'll have a Sapporo Ebisu draft beer. It's delicious. I'll start with grated yam for an appetizer. It's refreshing and delicious. I'll enjoy it with nori and umeboshi for flavor variation. As soon as my shochu ran out, I switched to shochu on the rocks. Let's go with Yakushima shochu, Mitsutake. It's my favorite shochu. Next up is sesame mackerel. The seasoning is exquisite. It goes well with the shochu. Finally, some karaage. I've also been to "Karaage-ya" in Fukuoka Ijiri. The best karaage is served here. I was too busy enjoying the food, so I didn't get to talk much with the Kurayoshi master, but I'm glad to see he's doing well. I hope to hear more about fishing and other stories next time. Now, let's head to the bar. Thank you for the wonderful meal. "Showa Retro Sakaba Kurayoshi" 1-15-26 Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka 102 Open from 17:30 to 23:00 (Last order at 22:30) Closed on Sundays

Fukuoka Daimyo, in a mixed-use building on Teppocho Street, you'll find the Showa retro izakaya Kurayoshi. The master runs this old-fashioned public tavern, which he really wanted to do! The atmosphere of the cool BAR Kurayoshi is quite different from the cozy and friendly space here. Plus, you can enjoy the fish the master caught, which is just perfect! Of course, after this, it's time to move on to BAR Kurayoshi for some more drinks! Visited in November 2020: On this day, we wanted to casually have some yakitori in Fukuoka! But before that, let's wet our throats a bit. We were planning to go to a cool BAR, but somehow ended up here instead. It's like the appetizer before the main course, right? Located in the back of a mixed-use building in Daimyo. There's a sign in front, so it's easy to find, but it has a deep and nostalgic feel. When you open the door of the old-fashioned apartment, you step into a Showa-style public tavern. The master of BAR Kurayoshi wanted to do something like this! It's totally a different atmosphere, isn't it? So, we started with a highball for 500 yen. Since it was just the beginning, we decided to stop after three drinks. The master recommended the sashimi of fresh octopus and the famous sesame mackerel from Hakata! But unfortunately, the fried chicken was sold out. We'll have that later at BAR Kurayoshi, right? - Fresh octopus sashimi for 900 yen - Hakata's famous sesame mackerel for 900 yen - Seared mezasu for 600 yen The fresh octopus, which was clearly blanched, and the reliable sesame mackerel from Hakata were both delicious. The seared mezasu was perfect for the atmosphere of the tavern. The aroma makes you crave sake, but let's hold back. It's a lovely retro tavern where you can relax and feel the passion of everyone running it. Such places are always the best! After this, we'll have some yakitori and then head to BAR Kurayoshi, of course. Thank you for the meal.

In October 2020, I love the prelude to the beard at my favorite restaurant~ lol I quickly stopped by the main store and had a light meal with sesame mackerel and sashimi to see Master Kurayoshi♡ I was planning to have just one drink, but ended up having 4 light drinks lol... Has this become an unbearable trend in recent years?? (sweat)

The main dinner gathering for the day was scheduled for 8 p.m., so we decided to have a pre-dinner drink at a bar called Kurayoshi. The master of the bar wanted to create a retro-style izakaya. The place was renovated from a room in an apartment building. We started with a highball toast, and for snacks, we had light dishes like sesame mackerel, octopus sashimi, and the recommended me-zashi by the owner. The sesame mackerel and octopus sashimi were both fresh and delicious. I particularly enjoyed the me-zashi, which was small but packed with flavor when eaten with chili mayonnaise. The grilled squid was also tasty when paired with the me-zashi. It was a dry type, unlike the moist ones often found at golf courses, and it paired well with the drinks. We stayed for about an hour and had about 3-4 highballs each. It was a delightful experience.

In September 2020, I wanted to visit the retro izakaya run by the famous bartender Kurayoshi in Fukuoka. Despite being a renowned bartender, Kurayoshi now enjoys running a casual izakaya where you can relax and enjoy good food and drinks. The menu is simple and comforting, with dishes like grilled sea bream, marinated mackerel, spicy miso pork and cabbage on a hot plate, and homemade tempura. The ham and eggs dish was a must-try for me, and I enjoyed the spicy fried chicken wings. The tempura made from fish caught by Kurayoshi himself was a delightful surprise. Despite his fame, Kurayoshi is down-to-earth and ensures that everyone has a great time at his izakaya. It's a must-visit spot in Fukuoka!

At the famous "Showa Retro Sakaba Kurayoshi" in Daimyo, there is a small drinking alley across from Plaza Hotel. The restaurant is located in a very old Showa-era apartment building, I wonder how old it is? It's a renovated bar with a nostalgic atmosphere, where you can imagine the layout of the old residential building it used to be. The interior of the restaurant is brighter than I imagined. I ordered a draft beer and salt-boiled edamame for 400 yen, just the right amount to enjoy with a beer. It's getting to be a nice season. I also ordered the Devil's Chicken Wings, 3 for 500 yen. Surprisingly, they are not extremely spicy, but they are hot all the way to the core, which is why they are called devil's wings. I paired them with a highball with a twist. This combination is fantastic. These chicken wings are not devilish, they are angelic. The bill came to 1,980 yen with no table charge and the option to pay with PayPay. It was a great little drinking experience! Restaurant Information: Showa Retro Sakaba Kurayoshi 092-726-0080 1-15-26 Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City Opening hours: 17:30-23:00 Closed on Sundays

After watching a movie and having a terrible dinner at a restaurant, my husband took me to his favorite bar as a treat. I later found out that the owner of this bar, who looks like a regular old man at first glance, is actually quite amazing! When this place closes, he apparently goes to work at a bar called Kurayoshi. Isn't it cool that a regular bar owner is actually a skilled bartender? After that, he goes fishing. Amazing stamina! He was very kind, soothing my bad mood, and even made me a miso soup with flying fish roe when I requested it. The owner (master) and his wife (landlady) were very kind. Huh, so my husband enjoys drinking in places like this without me knowing. Sneaky!

Today I worked in Tsushima from morning to night. After finishing work, I went from Tsushima Airport to Fukuoka Airport. I left my luggage at the hotel and went to "Showa Retro Sakaba Kurayoshi". Luckily, there was one seat available at the counter. Mr. Kurayoshi was also there. I started with a beer. It was already past 9:00 pm, so the sashimi was sold out. I tried the recommended pickled Spanish mackerel, which was tender and delicious. Then, I had my favorite fried chicken. It was juicy and tasty. After the beer, I moved on to sake. The brand had a Showa era feel to it. After the sake, I had shochu with hot water. It was warm sweet potato shochu. Let's head to the next bar. Thank you for the meal!

From the rustic exterior of the building that exudes a Showa era vibe, you can enter the building with a sign pointing to Kurayoshi. As soon as you enter, on the left, you'll see the words "Showa Retro Izakaya Kurayoshi" on what looks like a personal home's door. Upon opening the door, you'll see the Showa retro atmosphere. On the counter, there are large bowls of home-cooked dishes lined up, and inside the counter, there is a lovely female manager dressed in a kimono and a kitchen apron. Since the opening had just happened, Kurayoshi, in a T-shirt, was briskly preparing the food. The super fresh horse mackerel nanban-zuke, caught, cleaned, fried, and pickled right away by Kurayoshi, can be eaten from head to tail. The bone-in fried chicken has a crispy skin and juicy meat inside, perfect for biting into. The turnip soboro-ni is comforting and tastes like a mother's cooking. The grilled sazae is fresh and the innards are chewy and enjoyable. Don't forget the rice, miso soup, and pickles. Discovering a completely unknown restaurant like this might seem intimidating, but with Kurayoshi's restaurant, you can relax and enjoy. It's said that having a regular spot like this is a sign of a true man. Depending on Kurayoshi's catch, you can enjoy different types of fish each time, making it a place worth visiting regularly.
