I traveled from Hakodate to Noshiro and stopped for lunch in Oshamanbe. I wanted to try the crab rice at this restaurant. When I arrived, the inside of the restaurant was empty as the customers had just left, but it seemed like they were still cleaning up. However, no one spoke to me even though I was waiting. They seemed too busy to even finish cleaning up. I waited outside for a bit until someone finally called out to me to come in. I ordered the crab rice, which was delicious. I was satisfied after eating it once. Thank you for the meal! :)

Today, I visited Kanaya Shokudo near JR Oshamambe Station. When in Oshamambe Station, it's either here or a soba restaurant. I ordered the specialty Kanimeshi for 1200 yen and a beer for 510 yen. The Kanimeshi didn't have a strong crab flavor, but it was fluffy and quite delicious. I finished it in no time. Thank you for the meal.

"I was told, 'Let's go eat kani meshi in Oshamanbe.' However, you can also buy kani meshi ekiben in Sapporo, you know? You can often find it at the station bento fair in supermarkets... I said, but still ended up going. When I entered the address into the navigation system, I finally learned, 'It's not an ekiben, but can you eat kani meshi at a restaurant?' From there, my excitement soared. I arrived just before the opening time of 11:00. I parked my car in the parking lot and looked around, but there was only a space for 'ekiben' and 'free seats' from 8:30. Oh, there was also a vending machine... I quietly asked at the ekiben sales corner and found out that there was a restaurant right next to it! So, I ordered the kani meshi set (tax included 1,690 yen). Kani meshi, kani salad, chawanmushi, miso soup, and side dishes. The portion was more than I expected! It was fluffy and delicious. When I finished eating, they asked me, 'Would you like another serving?' but I'm not that much of a glutton... Ekiben is of course good, but the kani meshi at the restaurant was also delicious. They also offer salt ramen and other dishes. The restaurant in front of the station had a warm atmosphere. There will be price revisions related to kani meshi in August 2023. I visited in July 2023."

When it comes to Oshamanbe, you have to try the crab rice! There is also a bento shop next door, so you can eat in the restaurant or take out. The taste is definitely something you should try when you come here. My child had the curry and it seemed like they really enjoyed it. Thank you for the meal!

I had lunch in Osaki, and I came to the dining room of Kanaya, which is famous for its station bento. I had never tried crab rice before, so I wanted to try it once. I arrived around 11:15 AM, and the parking lot was almost full. Luckily, there was one spot available, so I was able to park. Some people were just buying bento boxes, so the parking lot seemed to free up quickly. I went inside the restaurant because I wanted to eat there. Although the parking lot was full, there was still plenty of space inside the restaurant. Looking at the menu, I noticed that they also serve ramen and other common dishes since it's a dining room. Many people were ordering ramen dishes, but I decided to go for the Kanaya crab rice for 1200 yen. I was surprised when it was served in about 3 minutes. I started with the miso soup, which was not very flavorful. I realized that when the miso soup is like that, the main dish may not be that great. Then I tried the crab rice, but it didn't taste very crab-like. It was different from what I had expected. The green peas and pickled vegetables added a nice touch to the taste and texture. Maybe it's meant to be eaten on the train, so it's okay. Well, at least I finally got to try it, so I guess that's good. The service from the staff was excellent. Thank you for the meal!

I ordered the crab rice set from the menu board for around 1,700 yen. It wasn't bad, but maybe the price for the crab rice is a bit high. My companion ordered the crab rice curry, but there was too much rice compared to the curry, so it ended up being a rice overload. It seems like there is a local specialty price adjustment.

At Kanaya-san, I tried their first ramen dish. I ordered the Shoyu Wonton Men (780 yen) which had a deep black appearance, promising a rich flavor! The wontons were meaty and delicious. The noodles were straight. As for the soup, it had a strong salty taste. It was a bit different from what I expected (laughs). Perhaps their specialty here is the "kani meshi" (crab rice)? Thank you for the meal. *Bonus point: The young female staff member, who may be a part-timer, had a very pleasant and friendly demeanor. +0.2 points.

This is a restaurant famous for its specialty dish called "kanimeshi" in Wakkanai. It was bustling with many customers during Sunday lunchtime. I ordered the "kanimeshi" in large portion, while my companion had the "crab curry". The large portion of kanimeshi was satisfying in terms of both the amount of crab meat and rice, filling me up completely. The crab curry had a rich flavor and even the regular portion was quite substantial.

I took advantage of the transfer time at Oshamanbe Station. It was slightly empty as it was just before noon, but a large number of customers arrived from a train that came a little later. There weren't many shops, so it couldn't be helped, but the staff seemed to be struggling with the sudden rush. Instead of the crab rice bowl, I ordered the "Reprint Crab Curry" for 1,150 yen. It had more of a crab flake texture rather than actual crab. It wasn't watery, so it went well with the curry. The curry itself was delicious, and the addition of crab made it even better. Thank you for the meal.

I transferred to the Hakodate Main Line, also known as the Yamanote Line, but the connection is bad so I have to wait for about an hour. Since it's cold in winter in Hokkaido, I decided to have lunch at a restaurant near the station. The restaurant is famous for its station bento. The place was crowded with customers waiting for their transfers. I was worried if my food would arrive on time, but the dishes were served at a good pace. Looking at the menu, I couldn't resist the crab curry, even though it was 500 yen more expensive than regular curry. The curry arrived with a strong crab aroma, surprising me. The taste of the crab curry was amazing, the crab really stood out. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

I went during lunchtime on a Sunday and was prepared to wait in a long line outside, but the turnover was surprisingly fast. There was only one staff member handling customer service, which was impressive. This staff member was energetic and friendly, which helped keep the irritation of waiting at bay. I ordered the crab rice set for 1680 yen and it arrived relatively quickly despite the crowded conditions. I forgot to take a photo and started eating, but I managed to snap a picture halfway through. The crab rice and chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) were particularly delicious. The chestnut in the chawanmushi was sweet, and the overall flavor was rich, different from what I usually eat locally. The crab rice was also delicious, and although there was a decent portion, I finished it all in no time. For this price, there's nothing to complain about. I would definitely want to visit again if I come back to Hokkaido.

Located in Oshamanbe-cho, Yamakoshi-gun, Hokkaido, the famous shop "Kaname Honpo Kanaya" known for its station bento and specialty dish "kanimeshi". Founded on October 20, 1928, the shop started selling station bento. According to the official website of Oshamanbe Tourism Association, "kanimeshi" originated when the "Oshamanbe Station Stand-Up Merchant Association" (now Kanimeshi Honpo Kanaya) started selling "boiled crab" instead of bento during the food shortage after the war. Boiled crab could only be sold in the summer when horsehair crabs were in season, so in order to allow people to enjoy the deliciousness of crab all year round, over 50 trial products were developed, leading to the completion of "kanimeshi" in 1950. Various unique versions of "kanimeshi" are served in restaurants and drive-ins in Oshamanbe-cho, and it is also sold as station bento in different parts of Hokkaido, with Kaname Honpo Kanaya being considered the original. During a trip from Hakodate to Sapporo passing through Oshamanbe-cho, I decided to try the famous "kanimeshi". The main shop is located near Oshamanbe Station, and there are also branches in Sapporo. I visited the Kanekatsu Kanaya restaurant, where I ordered the "kanimeshi" for 1200 yen. The dish consisted of crab flakes mixed with bamboo shoots and cooked until the moisture was gone, topped with sweet and savory seasoned shiitake mushrooms, colorful shredded egg, plum, and green peas. It was served with seaweed, hijiki, and small fish simmered in a spicy-sweet sauce on the side. The dish had a delightful combination of textures and flavors, with the crab and bamboo shoots providing a rustic and gentle taste. The shiitake mushrooms and simmered dish were excellent accompaniments to the rice. Even though the shop is famous for its station bento, I have yet to try it, so I look forward to trying it next time.

On the second day of GW's trip to Hokkaido, we stopped at Nagamambe station while traveling on the Muroran Main Line to the mountain line of the Hakodate Main Line as part of our train journey. The station itself had a shop and a soba restaurant, but the station front shopping street was mostly shuttered. We decided to eat at a popular restaurant that also attracts visitors by car. We ordered the crab rice set, which came with crab rice, chawanmushi, and crab salad. The crab rice mainly consisted of shredded crab meat with one crab leg. The presentation included shiitake mushrooms, shredded omelette, umeboshi, green peas, and other garnishes. While the dish was served hot, it had some cartilage-like texture mixed in, which was a bit off-putting. The overall taste was not bad, but it didn't have a strong crab flavor. The chawanmushi was lukewarm, suggesting it was steamed in advance. The fish was average, with no crab meat inside. The crab salad had actual crab meat and a unique dressing, which was interesting. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere with some raised seating areas. Overall, in the onsen town of Nagamambe, this restaurant seemed to be a valuable local establishment, even though the crab dish didn't quite meet our expectations.

I often see "Kanaya no Kanimeshi" bento, but I had never tried it before, so I visited the restaurant. The Kanimeshi set meal includes Kanimeshi, Chawanmushi, salad, side dishes, pickles, tsukudani, and miso soup. The Kanimeshi was fluffy and full of crab, with plenty of sweet shiitake mushrooms which were delicious. The salad with lettuce, crab meat, and mayonnaise with lemon squeezed over it was refreshing and tasty. My husband was very excited about the Chawanmushi he had first, which was sweet with chicken, shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, and chestnuts, and was delicious. We were very satisfied. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

"Restaurant Kanaya" is located just a 2-minute walk from Nagamebe Station on the JR Hakodate Main Line, at the corner of the Nagamebe Station front intersection. I visited for the first time during lunchtime in mid-October. The restaurant has a total of 36 table seats. I was guided to a 4-person table. I ordered the popular menu item "Kani Meshi Set" (1690 yen) for the day. The set includes Kani Meshi (crab rice), chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), crab salad, 2 small side dishes, and miso soup. The dishes arrived promptly. The crab meat scattered on top of the rice was decorated with shiitake mushrooms and shredded omelette, umeboshi (pickled plum), bamboo shoots, and green peas, creating a colorful presentation. I tried it right away. The crab meat was flaky and had a dry texture. The flavor was not the typical sweet crab leg taste, but rather a light taste with a hint of crab broth. However, it was strangely addictive and easy to eat. Personally, I found the crab salad to have more of the traditional crab flavor. The chawanmushi was hot and fluffy, with a rich flavor from the shiitake mushrooms and bamboo shoots. I finished the meal quickly. Thank you for the delicious meal.

In front of Nagamambe Station, there is an old-fashioned diner that was established in 1928. The crab rice in a regular portion costs 1200 yen, and even though it's a regular portion, there is quite a lot of rice, so I left feeling full. It's difficult to describe the taste, but it's delicious. The broth is flavorful but not too salty. If I have the chance to visit Nagamambe Station again, I would definitely want to eat here. Thank you for the meal!

In mid-July 2021, for lunch. Today, I plan to arrive in Hakodate from Sapporo. I decided to try the crab rice in Omu, and also took a dip in the Omube Onsen. It's an old hot spring town, but the hot spring water was nice with a mild alkaline quality. Upon arrival around 11:00 am, there were 3 groups of customers ahead of us. We were seated at the last available table. Although there were still many sunken kotatsu seats available, it seemed like there was plenty of seating space, but all the table seats were filled shortly after opening, indicating its popularity. We ordered crab rice and chawanmushi. I was curious about the crab rice set, but looking at the menu, it seemed to come with crab rice, chawanmushi, and crab salad, so I decided to skip the salad. The dishes arrived fairly quickly, accompanied by miso soup and pickles. The black pickle was seaweed tsukudani, which tasted milder than store-bought ones. Trying the crab rice, it seemed to be cooked crab meat on top of warm white rice. There was quite a generous amount, showing the effort put into picking the meat. It's essentially a bento, so the crab flavor is there but not overwhelmingly so. The rice was warm and delicious. The experience was similar to the kamameshi from Oginoya in Gunma. The chawanmushi had a sweet flavor, which might appeal more to those from the Kanto region, but it also had a good dashi taste. It served as a nice solid dish in between bites of crab rice, complementing the meal well. On another note, Omu is famous for a gag by Tetsu Yorii. I looked it up and found out that it was a hit on a sexy variety show on TV. I must have been around elementary school age, but I remember laughing at something I didn't understand, which was my introduction to the name Omube. It's quite an achievement to have spread the name through humor. There are stories of him getting scolded by the residents, but that's understandable ===========

When it comes to specialties in Wakkanai, is it crab rice? When I searched for "crab rice + place of origin," it came up with Russia. I asked the young proprietress at the restaurant "Kanaya" for her recommended menu, and she immediately said "Crab Rice Set (1,690 yen)." I ordered this dish. I see... I hope that this will attract even more fans for the sake of regional revitalization.

"Kanekatsu Kanaya Shokudo" is a well-known local specialty restaurant in Oshamanbe, famous for its "crab rice" dish. I have had their bento a few times before, but nothing beats having it freshly made. Last time, I bought a warm bento from the store and ate it in the car right away, so this time I decided to dine in at the restaurant. The place has a traditional countryside diner style, and apart from "crab rice," they also offer curry, zaru soba, shrimp tempura soba, ramen, wonton noodles, and more. I ordered the "crab rice" of regular size. The rice was topped with plenty of crab flakes, and the seasoning was just right. The crunchy texture of bamboo shoots was delightful, and the flavor was excellent. Though the taste was a bit simple, the seasoned shiitake mushrooms, nori tsukudani, and pickles added variety. Despite the generous portion, I finished it all easily because it was so delicious. While you can get bento in Sapporo, nothing beats having the authentic "crab rice" in Oshamanbe. I recommend visiting during the upcoming tourist season, avoiding crowds and enjoying a drive to the restaurant. It was a delicious meal – thank you!"

I had crab curry. The fusion of crab rice and curry was really good! The curry was a home-style curry with a thick texture, and the beef was simmered until it melted in your mouth. It was delicious! The portion size was decent and I was able to finish it all in one go. The restaurant is located just a minute's walk from the station and even though it was past 2 pm, there were still quite a few customers. The popular dish is definitely the crab rice, but I decided to try a special menu item and it was the right choice.
