There was a cafeteria near Hakata Station with a wide variety of menu options. The restaurant seems to specialize in gyudon, as the name includes "gyu" (牛), but I decided to try the pork ginger set meal instead. The meat was thinly sliced, but the generous amount of rice and flavorful seasoning made up for it. Highly recommended, it was delicious!

This shop in front of Hakata Station is perfect for salarymen - cheap, delicious, and fast! I went there before noon and by lunchtime, it was already filling up with customers. I ordered the curry katsu bowl (580 yen) and it was great value for money!

In the past, there used to be many stores, but now it is a rare shop with only 2 locations. I knew about the one in Solaria Stage, but I discovered the one near the station by chance. However, there was a sign saying "temporarily closed" due to either the impact of COVID-19 or renovation. As Hakata Station is always crowded with tourists, I looked it up again and found out that it had reopened, so I went there for dinner. You purchase a meal ticket at the ticket machine near the entrance. The interior has a kitchen at the back, and the layout is similar to a well-known gyudon chain with two rows of counters where the staff can walk between. There were illustrations of Hakata on the wall above the kitchen. I ordered a mini gyudon (430 yen), and I added a raw egg (50 yen). It came with pickled Chinese cabbage. There was unlimited pickled ginger on the table. It was nice that they served barley tea. The onions were cut into large pieces. Since it is a Hakata chain, I expected it to be sweet, but it was not overly sweet and had a strong soy sauce flavor, which I liked. About 70% of the seats were occupied, and all the customers seemed to be regulars, middle-aged or older men dining alone. There was a person eating katsudon, which looked delicious. Some were having set meals, so it seemed like everyone was enjoying their favorite dishes. I later saw several reviews mentioning that they didn't like the smell of cigarettes, but during my visit, no one was smoking. I wonder if they have switched to a non-smoking policy or if it was just a coincidence. I enjoyed my meal, but I rarely visit the three major gyudon chains, so I can't tell the difference. I think it's a matter of personal preference.

During lunchtime, I visited and as usual, there were many customers. I purchased a ticket for a beef bowl set for 620 yen. It seems like the price went up a bit? The beef bowl alone costs 490 yen, and for an additional 130 yen, you get a set with a raw egg, miso soup, and a small side dish. The side dish is a small portion of chilled tofu. It's a bit of a subtle deal. The beef bowl comes with three slices of onions and heavily seasoned beef belly meat. Unlike a certain beef bowl chain, there doesn't seem to be a lot of green onions for vegetable intake. Mixing the egg yolk and white makes it like egg over rice, so I topped it with just the yolk and finished the meal.

【Visit Date】November 11, 2022 (20:00)【Restaurant】A restaurant mainly serving beef bowls, but with a variety of menu options including curry, set meals, and udon.【Dishes】First, I tried the basic beef bowl, and then I added an order of the Chicken Nanban set meal that caught my eye from the extensive menu.<Beef Bowl>To be honest, the meat was tough and the soy sauce flavor was a bit strong. The rice didn't taste that great either. While the price of 490 yen may be considered cheap in today's standards, I didn't really have the impression of wanting to eat it again. Personally, I find the taste of major beef bowl chain restaurants to be better.<Chicken Nanban Set Meal>Comparing the menu photo to what was served, the portion size seemed completely different. After trying it, I found the chicken to be lacking juiciness and the sweet vinegar flavor was not that impressive, making it a very ordinary taste.

I stayed at a hotel near Hakata Station and visited Gyushin next door. I love pork miso soup, so I ordered the pork miso soup set meal and was delighted to receive a small beef dish as well. It cost 630 yen and was great value for money. The beef was sweet and savory, complementing the rice well, and the pork miso soup was delicious too.

Today's lunch was at Hakata Station! I forgot that it's the first day of a 3-day weekend, so there were crowds of people at the station, and everywhere was lined up... When I tried to walk away from the station a bit, it started drizzling... So, in the midst of this unfortunate situation, I found this place and took shelter! I don't usually pass by this area, so it's my first time here... The interior of the restaurant has only a counter, with seating for 24. First, let's purchase a meal ticket from the ticket machine next to the entrance! Since it's my first time here, I decided to go with the standard option!
- Gyudon (Beef Bowl) (490 yen)
After a short 5-minute wait, the Gyudon arrived at the counter! From the appearance, it seemed to have a rather rich seasoning... The large-cut shiny onions looked beautiful... haha. I tried it right away, and despite the color suggesting a strong soy sauce flavor, it was surprisingly refreshing! It had a slightly sweet and somewhat elegant taste... with a hint of dashi? The bowl was generously filled with sauce! The beef had a satisfying texture and thickness, and the onions were crunchy with a hint of vegetable sweetness! The contrast between the meat and the lightly cooked onions provided an enjoyable texture! It had a different taste from a certain chain restaurant, so I was able to enjoy it! It might be interesting to compare Gyudon from various restaurants...

After decades, I visited Gyuushin because I was craving it. Gyuushin used to be a popular beef bowl chain in Fukuoka with more stores than Yoshinoya. I used to frequent the Nakasu store a lot during my student days. Now, there are only two stores left: Hakata and Tenjin. The menu includes beef bowl, pork cutlet bowl, beef hot pot, hamburger set, steak set, ginger pork set, fried chicken set, chicken nanban set, curry, pork cutlet curry, meat udon, and more. It had been a while, so I ordered the beef bowl extra-large set for 790 yen! When I tried it, the sauce tasted nostalgic, like sweet sukiyaki, and the meat was firm and delicious. It was better than the extra-large beef bowls at Yoshinoya, Matsuya, or Sukiya. The satisfying amount of meat almost made me misjudge the rice-to-meat ratio. I need to make sure not to forget about Gyuushin from now on~

I was feeling hungry and really wanted to eat at a local restaurant, so I searched on Tabelog. I found a place nearby called Gyuhato. They use a ticket system for ordering. They had a wide variety of menu items like set meals and curry, but I decided to order the beef bowl, which seemed quick. It may be a bit cliché, but the beef bowl was delicious. It reminded me of the beef bowls at popular chain restaurants like Sukiya. Thank you for the meal. The restaurant was bustling with office workers.

I tried a cost-effective restaurant that offers gyudon, katsudon, curry, and set meals. It has a similar setup to Yoshinoya and Sukiya, with a wide menu selection. I decided to try the steak set meal for 830 yen instead of the gyudon to experience a different taste. The steak was tender and not too fatty, with a nice salty flavor. It reminded me of the steak bento you can find at train stations. If I come back, I'd like to try the gyudon next time.

When on a business trip, I look forward to dining at local restaurants unique to the region, rather than national chain stores. This restaurant, located conveniently just outside the underground mall at Hakata Station, offers a variety of affordable set meals and rice bowls. You purchase your meal ticket from a vending machine and then take a seat. The food arrives promptly. On this day, I ordered the special chicken nanban set meal, which comes with tartar sauce. The chicken karaage, coated in both tartar sauce and another sauce, was tender and easy to eat. The chicken was seasoned just right, making it very delicious.

I passed by this place and decided to have lunch here. It's a bit more expensive compared to the three major gyudon chains, but they have a wide variety of menu options. They are also taking good measures against COVID-19. I was planning to have the katsudon, but when I looked at the ticket machine, I couldn't resist the katsu curry don option. It cost 540 yen. I waited for a bit and then my dish arrived. In the middle was a tonkatsu, with half covered in curry and the other half in egg. It was like half katsudon, half katsu curry. I started with the curry, which was delicious with a hint of sweetness. As I kept eating, I moved on to the katsudon area. Since I had the curry first, the katsudon tasted a bit bland in comparison. It seems like I should have eaten them in the opposite order. Most of the customers were enjoying the large serving of katsudon. Maybe I should try the katsudon again next time?

I wanted to have a cheap dinner in Fukuoka without going to a central chain restaurant, so I went to Gyudon chain restaurant called Gyuushin. When I looked at the ticket machine, I saw not only Gyudon but also Katsudon, steak, yakiniku set, udon, and other menu items. Since it was my first visit, I ordered the Gyudon set for 590 yen. It came with Gyudon, egg, cold tofu, miso soup, and pickles. You can add as much pickled ginger as you like. The Gyudon had a slightly strong flavor and a generous amount of meat. Next time, I want to try other menu items.

I stopped by because I was in a hurry and needed something quick to eat. It was my first visit even though I had passed by before. The atmosphere seemed like a place where you can eat quickly and affordably. The menu was extensive, with options ranging from regular to large and even mega sizes. The place had only counter seating, with a few male office workers. I ordered the basic beef bowl (regular) for 480 yen. There were other options like ginger pork and various set meals, so the beef bowl took a bit of time to come out. The bowl that arrived looked like something from Yoshinoya. I sprinkled red pickled ginger and shichimi pepper on top and started eating. The beef had a rich, stewed flavor. It was a bit drier than Yoshinoya's, but the portion of meat was as much as the large size there. I couldn't help but notice that many people around me were ordering the fried chicken bowl, so I wondered if that was the main dish. It came with fried chicken, cabbage, and mayonnaise topping for 430 yen. Next time, I'll try the fried chicken bowl. Thank you for the meal.

During regular lunch hours, after noon, Gyuushin tends to get crowded. There wasn't a line waiting to get in, but I chose a seat with an acrylic board between me and the next customer to maintain some distance. I purchased a meal ticket for the "Steak Set" priced at 770 yen including tax, which seems to be the highest-priced menu item at Gyuushin. It took about 10 minutes for the steak to be served, longer than other menu items probably due to the cooking time. The steak had no fat and a slightly firm texture. I couldn't identify the cut, but it didn't seem to be sirloin. It was about 5mm thick. Considering the price of 770 yen including tax, I have no complaints. It was seasoned with pepper. The steak was on the smaller side, so I had leftover rice. I ate it with the stir-fried bean sprouts and carrots provided, along with some pickled ginger from the counter. I want to try other menu items, so I plan to visit again.

I visited during lunchtime on a regular day. It was not crowded when I arrived a little before noon, but it started to get busier after noon. However, I felt reassured as they had implemented measures to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. The menu mainly consists of set meals and rice bowls using beef. I purchased a meal ticket for the "Pork Soup Set" for 630 yen including tax, which allows you to have pork soup, beef dish, and rice. The beef dish, made with beef and onions, was quite flavorful and salty. In terms of taste and quality, I personally think Yoshinoya's beef dish is better. The pork soup contained pork, taro, carrots, burdock, thick fried tofu, konjac, and chopped green onions. It was nice to have plenty of vegetables. The rice portion was equivalent to about two normal-sized bowls. I believe you will feel full after finishing the meal. During my meal, several customers ordered the "Steak Set." It costs 770 yen including tax, which is quite affordable for a steak set. It seemed to be a popular menu item, or perhaps it was just a coincidence. I might try it next time.

I ordered a lunch set of sukiyaki-style beef and tofu. The taste was just right, not too strong. The restaurant only had a counter, and it reminded me a bit of a certain beef bowl chain (lol). The seasoning was quite homely. The customers around me were ordering rice bowls. I will visit again.

Around 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, I had lunch at Ushigoro in front of Hakata Station. I used to frequent Ushigoro in Nakasu about 40 years ago, but now the menu has become more diverse. The interior of the restaurant has two U-shaped counters and there were about 10 customers already there. I bought a meal ticket at the ticket machine near the entrance. I hesitated between the 480 yen (tax included) Gyudon (beef bowl) and the 550 yen (tax included) Katsudon (pork cutlet bowl), but I decided on the Katsudon. It was mentioned that miso soup is served until 2:00 p.m. on the ticket machine, priced at 50 yen. In about 3 minutes, the Katsudon was brought to me. The pork cutlet was thicker than I expected and very delicious. The seasoning was on the stronger side. The portion of rice was quite generous. As I ate, I noticed that most other customers were ordering either Gyudon or Katsudon, with a roughly equal split between the two.

A popular diner chain located near Hakata Station's Hakata exit. The interior is similar to a beef bowl chain with only counter seats, offering a wide range of dishes from rice bowls to hot pots and set meals at reasonable prices. Today, I purchased a "Katsudon for 550 yen (tax included)" from the ticket machine inside the store. The pork cutlet seems like molded meat, but I don't mind it, and I think it tastes much better than low-quality pork cutlets. The bowl with plenty of sauce has a strong flavor, stimulating the appetite with a taste typical of a diner. It's easy to satisfy your hunger, so if you're unsure about where to have lunch, choosing this place is not a bad option. I chose the closest dining place near the hotel. I ordered something called curry katsu don. It was a regular katsu don with curry on top. The curry mixed with the katsu don broth creating a mild and delicious flavor. It was quite tasty.
