Finally, the eat-in service has resumed. We tried three different types at the eat-in corner using the shop's microwave. I liked the Benten oysters the best. My companion seems to prefer the Maruemon flavor. It was fun to share our impressions while trying different types. We also bought some kombu noodles on our way out, but they were just average in taste.

Whenever I come to Tohoku, I always make sure to stop by this shop. I was looking forward to enjoying fresh oysters from the local area in the eat-in corner! However, this time they told me to heat up the oysters in the microwave before eating them... Well, they're still delicious when heated up, but I really wanted to have them raw. Looking forward to next time!

The oysters here in Akkeshi are amazing! I don't like dealing with oyster shells, so I bought shucked oysters. They used to be 1,980 yen per kilogram, but this time they were 2,500 yen ^ ^; However, there were 30 pieces in the package \(^o^)/ My favorite way to eat them is with vinegar, but this time I coated them in flour, seasoned with salt and pepper, and wrapped them in bacon before grilling. They were incredibly creamy and delicious♪

[September 3, 2022] Survey report. Day 3 in Hokkaido, tonight we are staying at the Kitoushi campsite in Kushiro. We enjoyed local food in Kushiro and came to Akkeshi to seek out ingredients for tonight's meal! Of course, we can't miss the Akkeshi oysters. Arrived at 3:08 PM. Inside the store, there are countless tanks lined up. Wow! My excitement level is rising!! The purchased items and reviews are as follows. ↓↓↓↓ ◆ Kakiemon LL 248 yen 4.1 points Both the young shellfish and cultivation are from Akkeshi. They are slightly small but have a sweetness and are delicious. ◆ Maruemon 3L 302 yen 4.3 points The young shellfish is from outside the region, but cultivated in Akkeshi. A huge Maruemon!! Despite its size, it has a strong umami flavor and is juicy. It has a satisfying taste!! ◆ Asariemon Medium (500g) 594 yen 3.9 points It seems that Akkeshi is the top producer of asari in Hokkaido. We stir-fried them with butter. [Overall Evaluation] I learned how to shuck oysters from the shop owner and also bought an oyster shucking knife. I managed to shuck them well. While the oysters were good raw, I personally preferred them grilled. I regret not buying more!

This time, I had sashimi instead of oysters. I enjoyed scallops and surf clams. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, the eat-in space was closed. It's a shame... The sashimi was freshly prepared, so the freshness was outstanding! It was the best sashimi with a nice firm texture!

This place is cheap! I stopped by to buy fresh oysters and found a pack of 35 shucked oysters for only 1,900 yen, what a great deal! They also have snow crab for 500 yen. Unfortunately, the booth for microwaving fresh oysters is currently closed due to the coronavirus. They also offer delivery to other regions, which is convenient.

The second floor of the roadside station was very crowded, so I decided to stop by here. As soon as I entered the store, I was amazed by the abundance of oysters! They had large steamed oysters, scallops, and surf clams served as sashimi. The sashimi was neatly arranged and priced at 100 yen each. You can heat up the oysters in the well-equipped dining area using a microwave. The oysters, scallops, and surf clams were all delicious! And the prices were very reasonable! The cost performance was excellent!

I also stopped by Akkeshi on my way back. This time, I visited the Akkeshi Fisheries Cooperative Association's direct sales store, E-Uroko. It was bustling with locals and tourists. The Pacific saury was cheap, but very small. It seems like there's really been a poor catch this year. The maruo-mon (large-sized) oysters were only 170 yen, which is a steal! I thought 250 yen at the restaurant yesterday was cheap, but this is even cheaper. You have to shuck them yourself though. The charm of this place is that you can enjoy what you buy right here. They provide knives, seasonings, chopsticks, a microwave, plastic wrap for making steamed oysters, and everything you need. They even have instructions on how to prepare them, so it's okay for beginners. They also sell beer. The fresh oysters are thick and delicious! They're just a bit salty. I was skeptical about the microwave-steamed oysters, but surprisingly, they were very tasty. They might even be better than fresh ones. It's very convenient, and I think I can do this at home too. My daughter also had her first taste of oysters and really enjoyed them.

At the oyster town of Akkeshi, there is plenty of time until the next train, so I decided to walk about 20 minutes from the station. At the local fisheries cooperative's direct sales store, you can enjoy eating seafood in a simple setting. The M size oysters with shells are only 100 yen each! For oyster lovers, this is a dream come true. I bought 4 Maruemon oysters (3L) for 190 yen and had 2 raw and 2 steamed in the microwave. When dining in, you have to shuck the oysters yourself (they provide a knife and gloves for shucking). Shucking the raw oysters was a bit challenging, but once the shells were removed, the oysters looked beautiful and tasted amazing, especially with the delicious broth. The steamed oysters were easier to shuck and had a firmer texture, but were equally delicious, including the adductor muscle. At 190 yen for a 3L size, you could eat as many as you want. I also tried the shucked surf clam (large) for 270 yen plus a handling fee of 50 yen. Unlike oysters, the staff shucks the surf clam and prepares it as sashimi. The inclusion of the sinew adds extra freshness and enhances the deliciousness of the surf clam. I also enjoyed a bottle of Fukushi Honjozo (357 yen) from Kushiro. This sake paired perfectly with the oysters. With a variety of shellfish available, enjoying oysters and other shellfish with sake in Hokkaido is a fantastic experience.

I visited Akkeshi, famous for its oysters, and decided to try some oysters there. I chose the Akkeshi brand oysters, "Maruemon" and "Kakieemon". The price varies depending on the size, with the largest LL or 3L oysters costing almost 200 yen each... a shocking price. I followed the recommendation and had the Maruemon raw and the Kakieemon steamed. The steamed oyster was cooked in a microwave in the center, so all I had to do was heat it up. I didn't add anything to it, but it was smooth, salty, and creamy... so delicious! I wanted to eat more, but I had something else I wanted to try, so I resisted. I would love to eat them again if I go back to eastern Hokkaido! Thank you for the meal.

It takes 45 minutes by train from Kushiro to Akkeshi. Akkeshi, the holy land of oysters, has two spots where you can eat fresh oysters. One is the Michi no Eki Akkeshi Mikaku Terminal Conkiere. The other is the Akkeshi Fishery Cooperative Direct Sales Store Eauruko. Conkiere is a restaurant where you can leisurely enjoy your meal, while Eauruko is a corner of the fishery cooperative where you can eat quickly. Only at Eauruko, you can have dried fish and oysters shipped. There are three types of oysters: Benten oysters, Maruemon oysters, and Kakiemon oysters, with prices varying depending on the size. The fresh oysters are self-service style, where you have to shuck the oysters yourself. They provide tools for shucking, but it can be quite difficult and time-consuming. If you prioritize affordability, then this is the place for you. However, if you prefer to eat oysters already shucked, then Conkiere is the better option. Perhaps due to spending a long time in seawater, the oysters here were quite salty, so you may not be able to eat too many. It's a good idea to ask the fishermen about the characteristics of the oysters and find your favorite. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I visited the Akkeshi Oyster Festival during its season! I bought 5 medium-sized oysters and scallops as sashimi for about 990 yen. Only "Maruemon" was left, but they were all delicious so I didn't mind. I first devoured the scallops, so sweet and tasty. Then I tried one oyster raw and had the other four steamed, which was even more delicious. The oysters were so tasty, it was truly impressive. It's worth going to Akkeshi just to eat oysters. I will definitely go again. Apologies for the casual writing.

I had passed by this place many times and knew about it, but I had never been interested in oysters and always walked past. However, on this day, I decided to challenge myself and try raw oysters! I have tried raw oysters several times before, but I always disliked the strong smell of the sea. There were three types of oysters available: Kakiemon LL for 180 yen, Maruemon L for 110 yen, and Benten Kaki A5 for 270 yen. I ordered at the oyster tank and then paid at the counter. I learned that you can eat them raw or microwave them. I really wanted to try them raw, but I struggled to shuck the shells. It was quite difficult! Eventually, I managed to shuck them and taste the freshness. Oyster lovers would probably rate them highly, but for me, I think I'll stick to microwaving them next time.

Lunch at Eawaroko with an abundance of oysters. Enjoyed various types of oysters such as Kakiemon, Maruemon, Benten Kaki, and white clams prepared raw or steamed in the microwave. Also had Tsubugai and Hokkigai as sashimi. It was crowded during the Golden Week season, so it was difficult to secure a seat and had to wait, but it was also fun! ✨

On the first day of my trip to Nemuro, I passed through Kushiro and arrived in Akkeshi. One of the purposes of my solo trip this time was to "drive on Route 142". It may sound quite geeky, I know (;一_一) Route 142, also known as the Nemuro Hamanaka Kushiro Line, connects Nemuro, Hamanaka, and Kushiro. While National Route 44, which also connects Nemuro and Kushiro, mainly runs inland, Route 142 runs along the coast. I had heard that the coast between Kushiro and Nemuro has many cliff areas, so I thought I could take some great photos. But to my disappointment, it was so boring!! (;一_一) The route mainly runs through the forest with lots of curves and steep slopes, making it impossible to speed up. In the midst of this, I stopped by the "Sekineppu Observation Plaza". Sekineppu, written in kanji as "賤夫向", is a completely unreadable name. In fact, along Route 142, there are many difficult-to-read place names, such as "Urakumadomari (Pontomari)" and "Wakacharase". These names are hard to read at first sight because they are forced interpretations of Ainu language into kanji. For more details, please google "Route 142". By the way, if you use chappytsum, Sekineppu can be interpreted as "Sekine fart". Just a little joke!! (laughs) Next, I visited the "Akkesi Fishery Cooperative Direct Sales Store". Since I was in Akkeshi, I definitely wanted to eat oysters! I wasn't really craving oysters that much, but since I had made the effort to come to Akkeshi, I decided to eat oysters without feeling like I was missing out. They sell Kakiemon and Maruemon. Kakiemon is 180 yen for LL size, and Maruemon is 180 yen for 3L size. Both prices are excluding tax. The salary of Daiki Moriemon was also 180 yen (tax excluded). Thanks to that, I ended up getting involved in shady business... The salary of Takafumi Horie was also initially 180 yen (tax excluded). Thanks to that, I ended up serving time for violating the Securities and Exchange Law... Both Kakiemon and Maruemon were delicious and milky, but I would say Kakiemon with its refined taste takes the lead (*´∀`)♪

I stopped by on my way back from Nemuro because I wanted to eat fresh oysters. The restaurant had a style where you tell the staff which oysters and what size you want. There were 3 types of oysters, as well as scallops and surf clams, all alive. You could choose to eat them as they are or have them prepared as sashimi. If you wanted to steam them, you were instructed to wrap them in plastic wrap and microwave them. I chose all of them, the largest size for oysters, sashimi for scallops, and as they are for surf clams. In conclusion, the oysters were not that great. Despite choosing the largest ones, they were surprisingly small and lacked flavor. They tasted bland or lacked umami. I think they would have been tastier if I had just eaten them at a regular izakaya. The scallop sashimi was decently good. The best tasting was the surf clam! I forgot to take a picture of the scallops... what a shame.

Inside the store, there is a large three-tiered tank where you can choose fresh oysters for your order. In the eat-in corner right next to it, you can either shuck them yourself or heat them up in the microwave to enjoy. The oysters are priced at around 150 yen each, which is a great deal, and of course, they are delicious.

"Wow, it's E-uroko in Akkeshi. I'm here alone and don't have much time, so I didn't do any research beforehand. Just going with the flow, if I find a tempting restaurant, I'll go in and leave when it's time. After visiting a few places, the next one I found was the Akkeshi Fisheries Cooperative Direct Sales Store 'E-uroko.' Inside the store, it's so fun with a variety of items, and of course, they are promoting oysters. But I'm not a fan of Akkeshi oysters, so I resisted the temptation and got some 'octopus' sashimi instead. The 'dried sardines' were cheap and delicious, so I like them. Also, even though I just bought some, I couldn't resist getting two more 'surf clams.' Surf clams are well known for their good broth, right? Eat them as sashimi and use the leftovers for broth. So you need about four of them. The atmosphere is lively with both the staff and customers... I'm cutting the octopus and eating it with wasabi. The octopus wasn't that great, but it's frozen, so I was prepared for it. The frozen ones can still be juicy, so it wasn't too bad. The octopus craving has been satisfied, but the surf clams were for sashimi. I left it to the staff to open them, and then I'll have a beer. Today's main dish is aioli, so I switched to wine. By the time it was ready, the raw surf clam in front of me was all about the texture, which was crucial. Unfortunately, it was too soft, probably because I didn't hit it hard enough. It lacked the desired crunch, so it was a cooking failure. Well, I should have just hit it harder. Nevertheless, it was still delicious. Now, how should I use the broth? The dried sardines are delicious, with a good amount of fat and very tasty."

I had steamed oysters. It is located near the Akkeshi Ohashi Bridge in Hokkaido. It is a direct sales store of a fishing cooperative, selling seafood products. They sell frozen fish and processed foods as well. Akkeshi is famous for oysters, and they also sell oysters that can be eaten immediately. There are different types of oysters, with small ones from outside Hokkaido and larger ones like "Maruemon" and "Benten Kaki" from Akkeshi. The prices are reasonable. Towards the back of the building, there is a place where you can cook the oysters you bought, equipped with a microwave, seasonings, towels, plastic wrap, etc. You can make steamed oysters by heating them in the microwave. I enjoyed the steamed oysters with soy sauce and wasabi, and the taste was truly amazing.

When I visited during my trip to Hokkaido, I went to this place. It operates as a complete direct sales style with tables and tools for opening shells on the side. There are two types of oysters with about four different sizes available. It is recommended to follow the type indicated for raw or steamed oysters. You have to open the oysters yourself, but the procedure is shown, so it should be easy to follow. However, the ease of opening varies depending on the oyster, so if it is difficult to open at first, it is better to switch to another one. The taste is rich and delicious. It is really nice to be able to eat high-quality oysters as much as you like. It doesn't seem like it's under 200 yen per piece. Also, if you want to eat them in a hotel or elsewhere that night, they also sell shucked oysters. Of course, it is several steps lower in quality compared to eating there, but for around 1,000 yen for 500g, it is very good. If you visit this area, you should definitely stop by.
