I visited Kawata Onsen Station in May 2022 and stopped by a shop called Panapana. My companion suggested we go since we were already in Kawata. It had been years since I last visited this shop that sells miscellaneous goods and bread. It seems like now, more people come here for the bread. We bought various items and headed home. The sweet bread I bought was delicious, but the most tasty was the plain bread. I usually don't find plain bread delicious, but this one was different. Maybe because it's not like the sweet breads these days. It just suits my taste. It was really delicious. Thank you for the meal.

A calm and stylish miscellaneous goods store combined with a bakery that you can occasionally come across. They stock some unusual snacks and retort foods that you don't see often, which is great for someone like me who enjoys unique food from lesser-known brands. The homemade bread is reasonably priced for a small bakery, in my opinion. I bought a sandwich bread and it was delicious.

I also like to browse through miscellaneous goods, but this shop also sells bread. It is located right in front of Kawayu Onsen Station. I arrived around 9:40, about 10 minutes after opening. There were 3 groups of customers already inside. There are many miscellaneous goods, so I wanted to take my time looking, but it seemed like everyone was mainly there for the bread, so I waited in line first. The charming display case was filled with various types of bread, many of which were labeled as using natural yeast. I purchased a few items and then took my time browsing through the miscellaneous goods. They had tableware, seasonings, and on the second floor, clothing, hats, and basket bags. I enjoyed my purchases at home. The bread I bought was packed in a larger bag, with about 4 pieces inside. Cream cheese bread for 160 yen was soft with cream cheese inside. Sweet potato bread for 160 yen had a delicious amount of sweet potatoes, bringing out their flavor. Custard nut bread for 160 yen had a good amount of nuts, but the custard was subtle. Baked curry bread with natural yeast for 170 yen had tasty curry without spiciness, and it was healthy as it was not fried. Fig rye bread with natural yeast for 160 yen was softer than it appeared, with a mild fig flavor and a strong yeast smell. Bacon cream cheese bread with natural yeast for 160 yen had finely chopped bacon and cream cheese inside. Most items were priced at 160 yen. The texture of the bread was consistent, with each flavor added to a soft base. The shelves decorated with miscellaneous goods added to the charm and enjoyment of the shop.

Here in the town of Shibecha, right in front of the Kawatabi Onsen Station, there is PANAPANA, a shop that I visited a few years ago. The exterior already exudes a delicious and cute smell. Doesn't it make you feel excited? It is described as a "shop for daily goods and bread," and inside the shop, various cute goods are sold. The bread is in the central showcase in the store. Since it was still morning, there were plenty of bread available - I remember last time I came, most of them were already sold out. So many choices! The Butter Sugar bread looks like a butter roll or even salted bread. It's closer to salted bread, but with a sweet touch. The Tomato Bread is quite rare and has a refreshing tomato flavor after the scent of crispy wheat. The Custard Nut bread has a gentle sweetness of custard and a substantial texture, with the added crunchiness of walnuts. The Bacon Mustard bread has a French bread-like texture and a pleasant aroma due to natural yeast, with the added flavors of bacon and mustard seeds. Lastly, the Cinnamon Roll has a strong cinnamon scent and is generously filled with coconut, offering a delightful combination of flavors and textures. PANAPANA's bread may look simple, but each one is carefully crafted to provide a unique and enjoyable experience of flavors and textures.

I purchased breakfast here. The store sells miscellaneous goods and bread. The pastry showcase reminded me of Kiki's Delivery Service. The atmosphere was stylish. Overall, there were many items made with natural yeast, giving a healthy impression. The curry bread was not fried, making it healthy and tasty. It was soft and fluffy due to the natural yeast. The vegetable quiche had plenty of chunky potatoes, providing a satisfying texture. The bacon mustard roll was slightly firm, I would have preferred a bit more mustard flavor. Traveling like this is nice... Oh! I forgot my glasses at the inn.

Near the Kawayu Onsen area, there are many lovely shops. I went into this shop looking for miscellaneous goods, but ended up buying a roll after seeing someone else buy one first. They said the yeast is homemade. I was drawn to the Coconut Roll instead of a Cinnamon Roll. It was small and cost 90 yen. The scent is sweet, with a different charm than cinnamon. The bread itself is chewy. It's all about coconut, but with a subtle sweetness, making it perfect for breakfast or a light snack. However, I noticed a paper-like substance in my mouth while eating, which was a bit concerning. I couldn't figure out what it was in the end. Maybe it was part of the coconut? I'd like to try a different bread next time.

In the rain, I arrived at Kawarayu Onsen Station. I jumped out of the car and got wet. It was my second visit. I bought a melon pan with chocolate chips and a cheese bread. I wanted to take my time looking at the miscellaneous goods, but there was a fat guy looking at them alone, so I felt it would be a bother, so I just bought the bread and went home!

A shop that sells miscellaneous goods and bread right after you leave Kawayu Onsen Station. The melon bread is recommended, so I bought one without chocolate chips. It wasn't the fluffy type of melon bread, but rather a dense one with a lot of filling. Honestly, this melon bread wasn't to my liking. If I go back, I would like to try other types of bread.

When you come to Lake Kussharo, be sure to visit the Kawayu Onsen Station! There are lots of cute shops in front of Kawayu Onsen Station, which is my favorite spot. To tell the truth, I actually came to the forest cafe across the street. The cakes there are amazing, but unfortunately, they were all sold out due to the Obon holiday season. I didn't want to go back empty-handed, so I found out that the shop next door, which is a miscellaneous goods store, also sells bread at the counter. The shop's miscellaneous goods are so cute and it feels like my own little world (for those who love the magazine "Rinne"). I admired the miscellaneous goods and then went straight for the bread. It's a system where you choose from the bread lined up at the counter and ask the shopkeeper to get it for you (similar to Mister Donut's system). The bread looks simple and round, but the dough is thick and chewy, providing a satisfying bite. The fillings inside are delicious, making it a great choice. The bread was delicious, and I enjoyed it. Thank you for the meal.

This is a shop that I always visit when stopping by at Kawayu. The bread is highly praised, but the miscellaneous goods are also tastefully selected, making it my favorite shop! The sweet red bean bread (in the front of the photo) is highly praised by my mother, and yes, it is really delicious! The sweet red beans packed inside are fluffy and delicious! The brown sugar raisin bread (on the left in the photo) has a subtly sweet and gentle flavor, while the walnut bread (on the right in the photo) has a slightly hard texture with a fragrant walnut crunch, also delicious. Overall, the bread has a rustic feel, somewhere between fluffy and hard, which I personally really like! It's a bit disappointing that there are few large loaves for slicing, as small meal-sized bread is the main focus, but all of them are well-crafted and tasty!

- A variety of bread and deli items made with sturdy, hard dough are lined up at this bakery located right in front of Kawayu Onsen Station.
- The simple flavors are a pleasant surprise! The shop is a combination of a bakery and a miscellaneous goods store, with 70% of the space dedicated to goods. However, customers mainly come for the bread. I arrived right at the 10:00 AM opening time and the place was already packed with customers, so I might have missed out if I had come later.
- Inside the wooden cabinet-like display case, a variety of breads are lined up, mostly priced at 160 yen each. The breads are quite large for the price, with a reasonable pricing. All of them have a sturdy, hard dough that is delicious. It would be even better if there was a bit more yeast flavor.
- Custard Donut: Not enough custard filling. They should definitely put more custard in it, as it feels lacking.
- Sweet Potato Bread: Large pieces of sweet potato are included. The way the sweet potatoes are cooked is elegant! The natural sweetness is just right, giving a pleasant taste.
- Walnut Honey Bread: Lots of walnuts. It's more like a walnut bread than a walnut honey bread. The sweetness is subtle, and the delicious dough stands out. The honey flavor was not very noticeable, but the slight sweetness in the dough was enjoyable.
- Sesame Red Bean Bun: So much sesame. It's more like a sesame bread than a red bean bun. The sweetness is understated, but there's not enough filling. It's a bit disappointing when there's not enough filling, as with the custard earlier.

I came to Kawayu Onsen for a visit. The town is filled with the smell of sulfur as I make my way to Kawayu Onsen Station, where the area is bustling with many people and full of energy! My main purpose for coming here today is to visit Panapana, a shop that sells cute handmade goods. They have a selection of items that show a lot of attention to detail, and the prices are relatively reasonable, which is great. After some deliberation, I decided to purchase an adorable coffee cup made of Shigaraki ware! It's a one-of-a-kind item, so I'll refrain from posting a picture to avoid giving away the shop's identity (laughs). Now, as this is a review about food, I must mention that this shop also sells handmade bread! Apparently, it's quite popular and tends to sell out quickly, but luckily there were still some available when I visited. I chose the fig and rye bread, which was packed with a dense texture and had a simple, rustic flavor. The sweet and sourness of the figs added a wonderful accent to the bread, and the quality exceeded my expectations! By the way, my family members who came with me bought the sweet potato bread, and they absolutely loved it! I'll definitely try it next time I have the chance!

A cute bakery with natural yeast, located next to a miscellaneous goods store in front of Kawayu Onsen Station. Each bread has a chewy texture, satisfying to eat, and delicious in flavor. The melon bread is light and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, with a subtle sweetness. It would go well with Darjeeling tea, but the hotel doesn't have any, haha. The bacon cream cheese bread really brings out the deliciousness of the bread's ingredients. The moderate saltiness of the bacon and cheese complements the sweetness of the bread, creating a great balance and taste. I bought various other items as well. The shop is small, with a variety of breads displayed in small quantities. I was able to choose from different options by chance, but the ones I wanted were selling out quickly. Despite being located in a rural area near the station, the shop is loved by the locals and customers keep coming in one after another. Definitely worth a try!

This is about a visit to a popular bakery in Shari, where the reviewer tried the Orange Peel Bread and Black Sesame Paste Bread. The bakery is known for its delicious bread made with natural yeast, and the reviewer found the bread to be soft and chewy, with a nice crust. The Orange Peel Bread was particularly enjoyable, with a perfect combination of flavors. However, the Black Sesame Paste Bread had a slightly disappointing filling, as it lacked a homemade feel. Overall, the reviewer was impressed by the bakery's popularity and the quality of their bread.

In July 2017, there is a charming shop in the Kawatabi area that you'll want to visit. Located inside Kawatabi Onsen Station, this shop is next to Orchard Glass and across from Mori no Hall. In addition to browsing through various goods, you can also purchase three different types of bread, including a popular melon bread that is hard to find elsewhere. Each item costs 160 yen, making it affordable and easy to purchase. The souvenirs made great gifts as well. The owner carefully selects the goods, so it's a recommended shop for those who love unique items. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

Speaking of Kawatabi Onsen Station, there is Orchard Grass where the beef stew is delicious. There is also a sister store that recently opened. When I visited, they were having a joint event and it seemed quite lively. There were a lot of people, which may have been why the bread was mostly sold out before 2 pm. Anyway, I managed to get some items. Back at the inn, I enjoyed the food with a beer after taking a bath. It was really good. Although unrelated to food, there are selected miscellaneous goods on the 1st and 2nd floors by the shop owner. Stylish ladies, why not enjoy both the bread and the goods?
