This long-established shop, which has been in business for nearly 10 years in this area, is highly regarded. It seems to be loved by many students, and despite the recent increase in ingredient costs, the cost performance is quite good. They also offer student discounts, making it very affordable. This time, I chose the "Akatsuki Special (with all toppings)" and the "Akatsuki Donburi (4th photo)." Despite the good cost performance, the ramen here is of high quality, with a rich soy sauce flavor from chicken-based tonkotsu broth. Some may find it a bit salty, but it is smooth and easy to drink with no unnecessary odor. The chashu is moist and delicious, just the way I like it. Thank you for the meal.

After finishing my morning work in the center of Kyoto, I took a bike ride around the area. However, I found that there are not many places in Kyoto where you can easily park your bike and grab a meal. Then I came across this place, oh! They have a bike parking area! So, I decided to visit after a long time. The last time I visited was in 2005, about 18 years ago. The exterior still looks the same with a yellow tent and red letters that say "Ramen Akatsuki". It seems like not much has changed since then. Back in 2005, you could park your bike on the sidewalk without any issues, showing how things have changed with the stricter regulations now. The menu is now displayed outside with a wide variety of options. I decided to go for the "Ramen Regular" without any customizations this time. The traditional Kyoto ramen culture of allowing customization like the amount of green onions, noodle firmness, and soy sauce intensity is still present. However, back in 2005, the customization system was even more open. The menu used to be simpler without options like "spicy", "seafood", "limited Taiwan style", or "mixed noodles". The restaurant now operates from 11:30 am to 3 am the next day with irregular holidays. They offer a free small bowl of rice during weekday lunch hours. This is what the "Ramen Regular" looks like now. The noodles are served separately. The review also compares the current ramen with how it was back in 2005, questioning if their taste has changed over the years. Overall, it made me reflect on how my own taste and perceptions have evolved in the past 18 years. The convenience of having a parking lot next to the restaurant for bikes and motorcycles is a nice addition to the changes they have made over the years.

This local ramen shop is loved by the community. It has a pork bone aroma, but the broth is light and delicious. The chashu is also great. You can choose to have extra chashu in your ramen, which makes it even better. You can also get free white rice during lunchtime. It's a great deal for students too.

I had the Char siu ramen. The Char siu was tender and fell apart easily, but still had a nice meaty texture. The noodles were thin and slurpable. The soup was on the richer side, but not overpowering, so ramen enthusiasts might be able to finish it all.

Next to the restaurant, there is a garage where you can park your bicycle or up to 3 cars. During lunch or dinner time, there might be a wait. You can sit on the sofa outside the restaurant, look at the menu, and if it seems like there is availability, you can approach the staff on your own. The restaurant has a few L-shaped table seats, so it can get crowded quickly. Once inside, you can help yourself to water, and the menu will be provided at the right time. Student IDs or vouchers should be presented when ordering. You can also customize your order, such as noodle firmness or soup richness. The young staff members provided pleasant and attentive service. The customers varied from families to regulars, elderly patrons, and even younger ones who seemed like regulars. The Ramen (¥850) had a clear and clean aftertaste, with a broth made from pork bones and chicken, and a nostalgic thin straight egg noodle. The toppings included flavorful bamboo shoots, well-seasoned pork, and crunchy green onions. While it may not make you exclaim "delicious!" from the first bite, it is a ramen that you would want to eat again even after 20 years. The lack of any unpleasant flavors and the attention to detail in preparation were notable improvements from the last time I had it. This place is likely frequented by locals or residents of Kyoto. The restaurant is conveniently located near the Philosopher's Path, a popular tourist spot just a 5-minute walk away. The greenery along Shirakawa Street makes for a pleasant stroll, and you can leisurely walk to the Kyoto University of Art and Design, have tea at Sougen Cafe, and then take the Eizan Electric Railway back home for a relaxing weekend.

I wanted to go to Higashiryu, which is diagonally across from the ramen shop in Kitashirakawa, but it was closed, so I came here instead. - Ramen 1.5 servings ¥800 - Karaage (fried chicken) 3 pieces ¥300 The ramen tasted like the kind you would eat at a food stall, with a gentle flavor that was surprisingly delicious. The karaage was crispy, juicy, and the light seasoning on the batter paired well with the mayonnaise, making it very tasty. This is a place I would like to come back to for a drink and a meal.

I had been curious about this ramen shop for a while. When I went in, I saw that there were only counter seats, but it could accommodate about 12 people. It was interesting to be able to watch the ramen being made, and the owner's careful handling of the ingredients left a strong impression. The taste was simply delicious! It had a nostalgic flavor that made me eat it up quickly. I was happy to be greeted with a cheerful voice when entering and leaving the shop!

There is a prominent ramen restaurant with a noticeable sign along Shirakawa Street. It's rare to find a parking lot around here, so it's much appreciated. I ordered the set meal with two pieces of fried chicken for 1000 yen, which is equivalent to a regular chashu ramen. The ramen has a nostalgic taste to it. The fried chicken is seasoned with a special spice blend, making it delicious.

A ramen shop located on the west side of Shirakawa Street in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto. They serve a relatively classic Kyoto-style ramen, and there are a few parking spaces next to the shop. It's been almost 30 years since it was established. Around 2000, there was a "Kyoto Ramen Revolution" campaign by three shops established around the same time in Rakuhoku - Iicho, Takayasu, and Akatsuki. It's been over 20 years since then. Iicho, for example, had a change in leadership. I think the owner of this shop is also the second generation. The soup is a mellow yellow and brown classic style with lots of green onions. The noodles are slightly soft straight noodles. It's the kind of taste that Kyoto locals would slurp up and say, "This is it." There are also plenty of condiments like pepper and spicy miso for flavor variation, which is quite Kyoto-like. I think it's a good shop that hits the spot.

It's been a while since I last visited Akatsuki. I tend to only go to the ramen street in Ichijoji, but the ramen at Akatsuki has always been consistently delicious. This time, I had the Akatsuki Special and of course, I finished every last drop of the soup.

Hmm? Did the taste change? The soup is thinner and lacks flavor compared to before... Also, the ramen is lukewarm... The chashu is too fatty and hard to eat. Maybe the bean sprouts are old too, they were soggy and cold... The owner and manager were not present, so I would like to give it another try next time. Akatsuki Special, 1000 yen.

On Sunday, before 12 o'clock, the restaurant was full but we were seated right away. I ordered 1.5 servings of Chashu ramen with firm noodles. The broth was a gentle soy sauce tonkotsu flavor. It might be a bit light when you're feeling energetic, but it's satisfying when you're tired. The chashu slices were small and placed around the bowl. You can adjust the flavor with garlic and chili peppers on the table. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I had a bowl of char siu ramen. The char siu was full of flavor with each bite, the noodles were cooked just right, and the soup had a rich soy sauce taste that was very delicious. It's also tasty with a generous amount of pepper sprinkled on top. Even though it's a bit far, I'd like to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I went to a place called Akatsuki. Sometimes late at night, don't you suddenly feel like eating ramen? I do. I crave something slippery and a little thick. This place grants dreams that even Doraemon might not be able to fulfill. I went there. It was raining, but there were a few locals inside. The staff were lively. I ordered the Char Siu Ramen. The Char Siu Ramen is served with slices of char siu lined up neatly on the edge of the bowl. The char siu slices are small but there are plenty of them. The soup is quite oily and packs a punch. It's delicious, but leaves a lingering taste in your mouth afterwards. However, I think it's great to be able to enjoy this flavor late at night.

On the day of the decisive battle, after finishing a long work session, I headed north on Shira-kawa Street in Kyoto to recharge my tired body with energy! I came across a Showa-era style shop called "Ramen Akatsuki" with a stylish atmosphere contrasting the surroundings. The Akatsuki Special ramen I tried was a hearty dish with chashu, kimchi, green onions, and chashu fat. The soup seemed to have a soy sauce tonkotsu flavor with a hint of seafood taste, giving it depth. I wished the soup was a bit hotter, and personally, I prefer warm chashu. The noodles seemed to be from a noodle factory, and I thought flat noodles might go well with this soup. The ramen flowed smoothly into my tired body. The Akatsuki Special allows you to choose the noodle quantity, with options for 1 serving, 1.5 servings at the same price, and 2 servings, 2.5 servings for an additional 50 yen. Overall, I felt that this small shop has potential, despite being less popular than others in the area. It's a convenient place with a small parking lot. Thank you for the meal! #RamenAkatsuki #KyotoRamen #AkatsukiSpecial #ShirakawaStreet

I had a consecutive meal from "Masutani" in Kyoto. I couldn't decide between "Toryu" or "Akatsuki," but since Akatsuki was open, I went in. I entered around 11:40 am. They are open until late at night. I had the ramen (750 yen). It was light yet full of the umami of pork and chicken, with a well-balanced sweetness and soy sauce flavor. Unlike other Kyoto ramen, it didn't have a salty taste. The soup was slightly oily, which I thought might have helped to balance the flavors. The soy sauce flavor was strong but not overpowering, and the broth was not too heavy. There was not much impurity in the soup. The noodles were firm and delicious. I would like to go back again. Thank you for the meal! It was so hot, so I went back to Shiga. Even though I avoided the traffic jam by taking the bypass around Lake Biwa Bridge, it started pouring rain when I crossed the bridge, and I couldn't see anything around me.

It wasn't particularly appealing, just happened to walk by and decided to go in. Wow, the ratings are really high! Kyoto is on another level for sure. I had the most standard ramen, while my friend had some kind of mixed soba? I don't really remember. But it looked like they were enjoying it a lot. The gyoza was pretty good too, I think. I'm starting to forget now, but I remember feeling really full and uncomfortable afterwards. That means it's a satisfying place, right? Oh, I just remembered, the soup was delicious! I'll make sure to comment right away from now on!

Son's celebration for advancing to higher education with a Kyoto tour. The final stop of the trip was at Akatsuki no Chibi. 20:35 Entered, seated, and placed an order 20:45 Food arrived [Summary] Ramen [Chibi] 600 yen This time, I ordered the Ramen Chibi since I had the Chashu-men Chibi last time. The chicken white broth with a hint of back fat and soy sauce soup was delicious. The ramen had green onions and chashu, providing a rich flavor with a good balance of umami, sweetness, and soy sauce richness. Compared to Ten-ten Yu, the chicken and vegetable flavor was not as strong, with a stronger soy sauce taste. Akatsuki Don [Chibi] 400 yen Served in a bowl with a diameter of about 90mm and a height of 40mm, the rice was piled up to a depth of 30mm. On top, there were chashu slices and diced chashu, sliced green onions, mayonnaise, and shredded cabbage. The sauce was a slightly spicy sweet and savory one with a hint of chili pepper. It was not too spicy, salty, or sweet, just right. The combination of thin and thick chashu provided a variety of textures, making it a great value. The chashu itself was well-seasoned and tasty.
